Blue and Hazel
An: I don't own Artemis Fowl.
Ten.
Lunar considered himself to be a decent actor. His ongoing role of LEP officer was going pretty well so far. No one would suspect that he were anything but loyal and concerned for the wellbeing of LEP operations. If only they looked closely then maybe they would see the truth. A misconception would be that Lunar had no care for justice. This wasn't completely true. He was only disillusioned by how justice was served for the people. Opal promised the people would get the respect they deserved.
After fulfilling his duties for the midafternoon he was free to take a look at what the centaur and Holly were up to. Every day he stopped by to see what they have come up with. Usually it was the same result, nothing. Opal was pleased with Lunar's reports of their failures. He was pleased that she was pleased.
He stood by the door to the tech lab. He brought out some reading material to seem casual. He didn't want anyone to see an ulterior motive. As usual there was nothing to report. Lunar was about to step away from the scene but he heard a familiar voice seeping from the room. His eyes widened. He couldn't believe his ears at first. Artemis Fowl was talking to Foaly and Holly directly. He knew Opal would never allow such risky behavior. This was definitely something he needed to report immediately.
He pushed past one of the lower ranking traffic duty fairies and headed out into the bright artificial daylight. He never made calls on LEP grounds. Although, Opal and Artemis were away in Paris a few fairies remained behind to hold the fort in Haven. He had a tiny place he was renting on the outskirts of the bustling city. He made all his important and secret calls from his own location. At first he had been uncertain of his home's security. The mud boy insisted all members of Opal's team were fitted with special security technology in their homes as well as issued special communication devices. He wanted to scoff at the boy but he hadn't been found out yet.
When he arrived home he grabbed something to drink before taking a seat before his personal computer screen. He waited patiently for the screen to load before he selected an image of Opal from the computer. Soon the female appeared on screen sporting a bright dark red dress. He guessed she had been shopping recently. She did speak of how she wanted to update her wardrobe.
"Yes," she asked tiredly.
He coughed nervously before beginning. "Have you spoken with, Artemis lately?"
"No, actually," she stated with small grin. "I haven't had a chance to discuss with him. I have been having more discussions with Bell."
"Oh," he stated as he grew curious at the grin upon Opal's face.
It was interesting to hear Opal state she hadn't been in contact with Artemis. Lunar knew they were in the same location. There was no reason for them to not keep in constant communication. Things seemed odd already.
"Oh?" she repeated. "Is there a problem?"
"Possibly," he continued. "I was just at headquarters. I have something to report."
Her eyes lit up instantly. "Interesting, I was wondering when they would be catching on. I was getting a bit bored. What have they found out? Anything impressive?"
Lunar smirked. "I wouldn't say anything they have done. More of something someone has done. A someone close to you."
"Lunar, I don't have time for games," she stated as she narrowed her eyes.
"Neither do I," he responded. "But I wonder about Artemis."
Her eyes turned to slits. "What have you found out?"
Lunar was so pleased with the information he held. He wanted to draw out the suspense but he could tell Opal was already upset.
"I heard him speaking with Holly and Foaly," he stated softly. "He didn't say much beside he had a plan he had to finish up with. Now, it may be your plan or he may have a side plan. If you ask me, I think he is betraying you. Maybe this has all been a hoax from the beginning. Get in your good graces and finally expose you to the LEP, they could be sending someone to your location right now."
Opals features hardened before she began smiling. "Lunar, I'm certain you are wrong."
"What?"
"Artemis couldn't ever betray me," she stated confidently. "He really has no choice."
"I heard him talking with them," Lunar pressed further. "I mean maybe it didn't sound like betrayal, but maybe they saw me and were hiding their true conversation."
Opal smirked. "Your story is changing, Lunar. I know you have some strange issue with, Artemis."
"Why would I lie to you?" he asked seriously. "Why would I make something like this up?"
He watched Opal think carefully. Her eyes narrowed. Without warning the session ended. He was left with a blank screen. He gulped. Either Opal believed him and was furious or Opal didn't believe him and was instead sending someone right now to teach him a thing or two. Quickly he arose from his chair. She had to believe him. Why else would Artemis call them? Gloating was out of the question. It was too risky to gloat. Foaly could easily find a way to trace the call. No, Artemis had to be on their side from the beginning. Their entire operation hung in the balance now. It was now up Opal to expose the mud boy for who he really was. All Lunar could do was wait.
