10. 10) A book

there! two updates on the same day. just to make up for the fact that i haven't been updating

I turned to my parents. "Together you two have given me another chance." i said "i would be a fool to waste it."

Chaos approached me later that day with a book.

"Percy" she called "take this"

The book was a work of art. It had a sea green cover with tiny hexagonal plates that looked like scales. It had platinum trim around the edges of the cover and small threads of the platinum material formed wave patterns over the scale.

I just held it examining it from all angles

"It is made of six things." mom said "the leather you see is from the hide of the first sea monster, a being so powerful i had to kill it for the world to continue. It is fully indestructible, only protean would be able to puncture it."

"The platinum is not chaotic platinum, but void platinum. A metal made from my energy and chaotic platinum, heated in the hottest sun, and tempered in the black hole that lies in the center of the universe."

"The pages, thread, core material for the cover, and inside leather binding made of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth material"

"Let me guess, the core material for the cover is wood derived from a bush that was influenced by surrounding dark magic, the thread is made of hair from the pelt of the nemean lion and the leather from the leather of the golden fleece and pages from a type of papyrus that grows at the center of the universe"

"What no what gave you that idea?"

"Oh well see i thought"

"Oh i see. Than was i right about the pages?"

"The pages are made from an exotic extremely rare material called PaY-PuR. It is spelled P. A. P. E. R."

I rolled my eyes and opened the book

I turned the page idly noting that my mom had left. I began to make my way towards the chaos cabin at camp. I would need to study this book in private, and there was no better place than there.

So i was wrong sue me.

I looked at the next page

That was odd, all of the stats i had seen were above average. But not my ballance. I guess it makes sense; i was often clumsy and ungraceful, so my poor balance was not that big of a surprise.

Sure enough there, in the back of the book was a piece of paper, with the words burn me on it.

I decided to try out a power.

I concentrated on the water in the air around me moving them to make air currents. I extended my power out into the area around me conscious of the tiny strand of power that connected me to the water in the air. I focused and extended out another strand of my power. I felt out with it and connected to the air moving around me. I could suddenly feel the currents of the air, and it surprised me with how alike water and air control were. I then released control of the water vapor and continued to control the air.

I then continued with my plan. Focusing on the air currents i compressed the air, like i had done with water when i first heated it up. I continued to compress the air until the temperature was 50000 degrees fahrenheit but isolated to a sphere about the size of a marble. i was sure it should have combusted by now.

Out of the corner of my eye i saw that i had learned air temperature control, so, sweat dripping off my forehead i let go of the pressure.

I should have known better. I instantly knew what was about to happen and i had enough time to summon a water shield and harden it which thankfully took most of the damage from the wave of air that hit me with the force of a charging elephant.

Even so i was blown across the room and found myself embedded a foot deep into into a wall. Luckily nothing was broken though if i hadn't shielded myself i would have probably died.

When i got out i used my new air temperature control, to heat up the air instead of pressurising it, just like how i did it when heating up water for the second time.

In three seconds the air was at combusting temperature, my magic feeding into the sphere, where the piece of paper was, crumple into a ball, to provide fuel. As i had learned from leo, fire users need to constantly fuel their fire and unlike a water user if they don't keep fueling it, and it doesn't have physical fuel, it will die, not just become uncontrolled like a water user's water. Thankfully magic used as fuel is quite efficient and it's flammability is easily controlled.

I finally realised what the problem was; water. When i had first compressed the air, the water vapor was compressed also making it too wet to burn, and this time there was so much water vapor in the room, due to a highly dense water shield, that it wouldn't catch, and i certainly was not going to use greek fire. Hell without the fire power i don't know if i can. I drew the water from the sphere and the piece of paper burst into flames.

When it was nothing but ash i looked down to find a remote control with a button and a to it, their was another note,

Dear percy,

This is a dimension remote. It is connected to an alternate dimension that is a clone of this one, with no people or other life. Each time you enter the dimension it is reset the status of this one. Anything that happens to this dimension will not affect the real world. The button opens a portal and the dial controls time ratio. You can use this to train.

I smiled and looked at the book's powers section.

after twenty four years of training and not aging percy had mastered all his powers he had even managed to consistently hit the target with his bow. he returned to camp and walked off to see bianca. he had 10 months before thalia's tree would be poisoned.
