Its now 2013 and Damon is about to get captured... again.

Damon: "Why does this say 12144?"

Wes: "What do you care?"

Damon: "Because I was 20151"

Wes: "Hang on you were an Augustine Vampire?"

Damon: "Augustine... I haven't heard that name in decades. I thought you guys shut down 60 years ago."

Wes: "You thought wrong."

Damon: "You know how I said I wasn't gonna kill you? I lied."

Wes breaks free pushing a red button on his way out of the lab.

Wes: "Atomized Vervain, when working with vampires you can never be too careful. I am sure Agustine will be thrilled to have you back."

Damon passes out only to awaken in a cell, not just any cell but his own. He finds his initials carved into the wall and starts panicking.

Flashback 1953

The Salvatore boarding house

Damon: "Hey. I'm looking for Joseph Salvatore."

Joseph: "You found him."

Damon: "Love what you've done with the place. If this whole boarding house thing doesn't pan out, you can always turn it into a high class brothel."

Joseph: "Glad you got my telegram. I haven't heard from Stefan yet, but I'm hoping he'll be here soon. When's the last time you two spoke?"

Damon: "Well, he doesn't call, he doesn't write. Of course, neither do I. In all fairness, I am the one that abandoned him on a train platform in the middle of World War II."

Joseph: "Well, there's always time to be a better man."

Damon: "Eh, not sure I got one of those in me."

As Damon looks away Joseph grabs a syringe from the table and stabs Damon's wrist.

Joseph: "Sorry about the vervain, Damon. The money was too good to pass up."

His anger outweighing the pain and dizziness Damon draws his strength, spills the liquid on the floor and stabs the glass his was holding into Joseph's neck. Someone else comes into the room then.

Dr. Whitmore: "Well, now I won't have to pay him."

Damon: "Who the hell are you?"

The man picks up the syringe, refills it.

Dr. Whitmore: "I'll be your doctor from now on." He says ominously.

2013

Damon is sitting inside his cell on the floor with his back against the stone wall and Dr. Wes is watching him writing things down from outside the gate.

Damon: "Just so you know, didn't end well for the last Augustines. You're inviting bad karma in by holding me here."

Wes/Dr. Maxfield: "Is that what you told Dr. Whitmore?"

Damon: "Dr. Whitmore wasn't much for conversation. So you Augustine freaks are still at it? Eye exams and that sort of thing?"

Wes/Dr. Maxfield: "Jesse was proof that my research goes far beyond that. I trained him to crave vampire blood instead of human blood. Now, I'm ready to take my research to the next level."

Elena & Aaron are in Whitmore House

Elena: "That's my dad." Elena says noticing him in a large group portrait.

Wes uses this as his cue to announce himself.

Wes/Dr. Maxfield: "Grayson Gilbert was one of the best doctors the Augustines ever had."

Elena continues to study the picture and Wes uses this opportunity to stab her in the neck with vervain causing her to pass out.

Wes/Dr. Maxfield: "I'm glad he didn't live to see this."

Back to the Cells

Damon: "Come on, Elena. Wake up."

Elena slowly comes to now on the floor of her own cell.

Damon: "Hey."

Elena: "Damon?" Elena asks alarmed trying to reach for him, "Are you-"

Damon: "I'm fine. Wes injected you with vervain. Maybe when it wears off, we'll be able to break out of here."

Elena: "What the hell is going on? Why are you here? Why am I here?"

Damon: "Wes is carrying out the grand Augustine tradition. Getting his kicks off vampire torture."

Elena: "Did he tell you that?"

Damon: "He didn't have to. I've been here before. Someone in my family sold me out to the Augustines in 1953. Every day, this nut job Dr. Whitmore tortured us, cut into us, took pieces of our eyes out, pushed us to every limit he could imagine, and he had quite the imagination... kept me in this very cell, and don't think I haven't appreciated the irony."

Elena: "How long were you here?"

Damon: "Five years, give or take."

Elena: "Damon, how did you not go crazy?"

Damon: "Believe it or not, I made a friend."

The Cells 1953

Enzo: "Welcome. Dr. Whitmore never gets tired of watching us vampire heal, but he gives us one glass of blood per day, just enough to keep us alive. Pick yourself up, soldier. My name's Enzo."

The Cells 2013

Damon: "He'd been here for ten years by the time I joined the party."

The Cells 1953

Damon chugs down his glass of blood.

Enzo: "You're doing it wrong. " Enzo informs him taking just a small sip from his glass. "You're living for the moment. You need to live for the future." He goes on to explain.

Damon: "What future?" Replies Damon already beaten down.

Enzo: "The one where you get your revenge. For instance, in my future, my revenge will start with killing Whitmore's dog and mailing it to his house postage due. Go on. Picture your revenge. Use your imagination."

Damon thinks for a moment.

Damon: "I can see it."

The Cells 2013

Elena: "Damon, Wes knew my dad. They worked together. He said that my dad was an Augustine, too. I know that my dad was a vampire hunter, but he was also the town doctor. He was kind and gentle and loving. He wouldn't be part of a place that would cut your eyes out."

Damon: "People are full of surprises." Damon replies regretfully.

Elena buries her head in her arms and starts to cry.

Damon: "Oh, hey. I am so, so sorry I got you caught up in this." He reaches for her hand through the bars separating them. "Hey. Look at me. Hey." He gets her to look up, "but I promise you I will get you out of here, okay? Okay? I'll get you out of here."

Elena: "Damon, how did you survive all those years?"

1953

Enzo: "You much of a sports fan, Damon?"

Damon remains unresponsive.

Enzo: "No. Neither am I. Any other interests? Fine wines, travel, cars?" He looks over to Damon to see is he is making any progress. "I'm partial to Jaguars myself, convertibles, the kind you take on a Sunday drive to impress a pretty girl. Ever done that?"

Damon: "Once or twice." Damon finally responds. It amuses Enzo that this was the key to getting Damon to open up- girls.

Enzo: "Oh, come now. Got to be more than that."

Damon: "Well, the girl I was trying to impress was more of (groans in pain) a horse and carriage type girl."

Enzo: "What, just one girl?"

Damon: "Never met another one like her."

Enzo: Well, fair enough.

Damon: "What about you? Any pretty girls?"

Enzo: "Eh, too many to count." He says flippantly before deciding to be serious. "Actually, there was one. Her name was Henrietta Salvatore."

Damon: "Wait What?"
