A/N: Just a few quick things. The next few chapters may seem a little weird to read because I've already revealed the endgame but there's a reason for everything. So please hang in there if you plan to finish reading this story. Also, Jake may seem a little out of character in this chapter to some of you. Enjoy!
Chapter 9: Payback
"I take it that you are here to tell me that I need to stay away from Olivia," Fitz said getting straight to the point.
"Actually, there's a little more to it. I want you to keep your distance from her. We already have enough to deal with besides you hovering around and getting into her business. I get that you care about her deeply but…"
"No Jake, I'm in love with her," Fitz said interrupting him. He wanted Jake to understand that romantic relationship he had with Olivia wasn't a fluke or just merely a fling. What they had was the real thing. Sure, they didn't have an ideal relationship but their love for one another outweighed that. And that would never change regardless of who she was with.
"That's great and everything but you two are no longer a couple. Coming to her rescue or lending a shoulder to cry on isn't necessary anymore. Nor is it welcomed," Jake said sternly.
Fitz laughed at that. "Let's get something straight Jake. I could care less about your relationship with Olivia. The only reason I know what's going on is because Olivia called me right after Mellie went to her. Meaning, when something bad happens in Olivia's life she wants to lean on me for support.
"Well, the next time she reaches out to you for support, decline it."
In a satisfying way, Fitz was getting enjoyment out of their conversation. It was clear to him that Jake was jealous of the friendship he still had with Olivia.
"I won't do that. My relationship with Olivia has nothing do with you nor should you feel threaten by me. Or do you?"
"Believe it or not Fitz, I'm not worried about you," Jake said leaning back.
"You should be. More importantly, you should be worried about Olivia. She has a way of surprising people sometimes. We may just end up together again since you screwed up."
"I'm not concerned about her running back to you. Because why would she settled being with you after having me?"
It was obvious to Jake that Fitz didn't like his last statement. Because in a matter of seconds, the smug look Fitz had was now gone. Jake took a sip of his drink to keep from laughing.
Fitz raised his glass to lips and stared into before responding. "You're arrogance is showing," he said and took a sip.
"Guess we have something else in common then," Jake responded.
Fitz stood up and walked over to his desk. "What did you need to tell me about Mellie?"
"She cheated on you," Jake said simply.
Fitz placed his glass on the desk. Then he leaned against the front of it and crossed his arms. "If you're referring to that time on campaign trail, that's old news."
"I'm not talking about that. She had an affair that went on for months and it only stopped for one reason."
"And why should I care about this?"
"It only stopped because she got pregnant."
When the words sunk in Fitz unfolded his arms. "Are you saying that my little boy is not mine?" He said now a few inches from Jake.
Jake stood up. "I don't know if he is or not."
"I think you do know," Fitz said getting pissed off.
"No….I don't," he said truthfully.
Fitz didn't want to believe Jake especially after everything that has happen. But as he stared Jake down, Fitz was getting a feeling that he needed to do a paternity test.
"Who is the guy?"
"Paul Mosley."
Jake was half way down the hall when he ran into Mellie.
"Evening, First Lady," Jake said with a smile stopping in front of her.
"What the hell are you doing here? Mellie questioned in a low voice.
"I was here to have a little chat with your husband. Turns out he is willing to listen to me after all."
"What did you say to him, Jake?"
"Nothing too important," he said with a shrug. "Just that Teddy may or may not be his."
"You fucking asshole!" she spat at him and it was wonder how she managed to say that without getting loud. She tried walking pass him to go to the Oval Office but Jake blocked her path.
If Mellie could kill Jake right there and get away with it, she would.
"I told you that you were going to pay for this. So the next time you make a deal with someone, I suggest you uphold your side of the deal. Got it?"
"Go to hell," Mellie said with a cold stare before pushing her way pass him.
"Have a good night, First Lady," Jake said after her.
Later that night
Olivia's phone began to ring and she picked it up without checking the number first.
"Hello," Olivia said.
"Livvie, don't hang up, Fitz said.
"Good night, Fitz," Olivia said quickly and hung up. She had no desire to talk to Jake and she felt the same about Fitz. Just when she thought Fitz was being completely honest about things he proved her wrong.
The phone rang again exactly one minute later and she checked the number this time before answering. It was Fitz again.
She quickly answered. "What do you want?"
There was a pause. "I just wanted to hear your voice right now."
"You heard my voice now I'm hanging up."
"Olivia, stop being so stubborn for once," he said calmly.
"I'm not being stubborn. I just don't want to talk to you at this moment."
"How are you doing?" Fitz asked ignoring her last comment.
"Are you even listening to me, Fitz?" Olivia asked getting upset.
"I heard you and I want to know how you are doing."
"I'm fine."
"Are you sure? Because it doesn't sound like it."
"Fitz, I'm doing what's necessary to make it from day to day. Does that answer your question?"
"No.
"Well, I don't know what to say for you to understand me."
"I'm sorry, Olivia."
Olivia stayed quiet and Fitz continued. "I apologize again for the surveillance. You may never forgive me for that but I want you to know that I do regret it."
"Why didn't you tell me when you we talked about Defiance?" She was a lot calmer now and Fitz was thankful for that.
"I didn't want to ruin the possibility of us getting back together. But I now realize that I should have told you anyway so there wouldn't have been anymore secrets between us."
"You're right."
"Can you forgive me?" Fitz asked. He wanted her forgiveness more than anything else.
Olivia sighed deeply. "I can…eventually."
Fitz was relieved to hear that. "Ok then. Have a good night, Olivia."
Olivia was surprised that Fitz didn't want to keep her on the phone longer. "You too, Fitz."
A/N: Paul Mosley is the toe sucking guy from Season 1 lol.
