.:A Perfect Blue:.
Chapter Nine: Everything
Darkness. That was all he could see. A dark cloud surrounded him. He thought he had felt pain but...he wasn't sure. Was he dead? Alive? Afraid? Crag wasn't sure, and he hated it. He wanted to see the green fields of the Hidden Village again. That would never happen. He wanted to see the cliffs and valleys of his surroundings. That would never happen. And most of all he wanted to see light...that would never happen. He was alone, that was all that he knew. He wanted to know more. If he was dead he would not see darkness, right? He would be seeing the goddess's world. Unless he would turn into a poe. No! He didn't want that! An eternity as a monster? To die and then be born again? Never.
He wanted to believe that, but somewhere in his mind, he doubted it. He had broken many Sheikah laws. First, is that he ran away from the Hidden Village before his graduation. Second, he had cursed the Tribal leader. And Third, he was a failure, an utter failure. What god would want him? He then thought he heard a god, deep in his mind a voice called to him.
"Wake up," it ordered. How could he? He was dead...right? No...alive. He was alive. He sighed mentally. At least he still had time to cleanse himself.
"Wake up or I'll knock you out again when you do!" the voice, a feminine voice, screamed at him. Maybe it was the Goddesses? He then felt a kick on his side.
"Wake up!!" the voice screamed at him again. He opened his eyes, since what he thought was an eternity. He saw a women standing there, with baggy pants and dark skin. He groaned. It was a gerudo, not a beautiful goddess come to pull him to paradise. The gerudo stood there impatiently.
"Finally," the gerudo pouted. He got up from the ground. He was still on the road between the cliffs, but this time thirty gerudo stared back at him, carrying bags of something. Some of them gasped as they saw his eyes, and some of them drew there weapons.
"It's a Shiekah!" one of them cried. The supposed leader that was screaming at him narrowed her eyes at Crag. Great, he was dead now. He wouldn't stand a chance against them.
"I'm sorry I-"
"One of his people killed Nalla!" another one screamed. The leader had, had enough and unsheathed her blade. Crag took a step back from the angry gerudo. Before he felt sharp blades piercing his flesh, a loud voice rose above the gerudo women.
"Enough!"
Many of the gerudo turned to the voice and immediately pointed their sabers downward. A man pushed though the group, taller then most of them. Crag almost stumbled from the man's foot falls. The man had sharp eyes, yellow eyes, staring back at him. His red hair almost blinded him, acting as a mirror in the morning light. His skin was dark and it flexed as the large man strode to Crag. "Who are you?" he asked in a booming voice. Crag shivered as the man came closer to him, with Crag barley as high as his shoulders.
"Uh...I-I'm Cr-Cra-Crag," Crag stuttered.
"Who?" the large voice called to him again.
"Crag," he whispered. The tall dark man sighed and looked to his followers.
"He's harmless," the man called out. Many of the gerudo protested crying out in anger.
"But he is a Sheikah!" was what Crag could make out from the many complaints. The man looked back at Crag with more regard then before. How could he be a Sheikah? More of a tumbled down coward then a Sheikah. But he was a Sheikah, and a Sheikah had killed one of his followers during their rare raids on Castle Town. It was very misfortunate, he had come there at the wrong time. He knew a Sheikah had killed her because before she had died she mumbled softly, "The eyes, Red and Blue ones." The gerudo man had not understood what she had meant by blue eyes, but he knew about the red ones. He paused in thought and they grew silent, with Crag barley breathing in the middle.
"I know that Nalla was killed by the Sheikah at Castle Town, but that was are own bad luck! Next time, when you see the Sheikah again in the square, you can kill him to avenge Nalla if you want. But this Sheikah," he said pointing to Crag, who was on the ground again, pushed by the mob, "is a coward!"
"But Ganondorf!"
"Silence!" Ganondorf ordered. "This matter is closed! He means nothing to us! If we want to return to the desert soon, to see rid of this horrible greenery, then we should get out of here! Unless you want a whole army of blasted Hyrulians on our tail," Ganondorf added. The gerudos nodded and began to turn around in the road, stepping around the frail Sheikah.
"Wait!"
Ganondorf turned to look down at the wimpy Sheikah, grimacing at him, "I'm giving you your life, Sheikah, and you should be happy about it." Crag got up to his feet and looked away from the face of Ganon. The male gerudo sniffed and began walking away.
"Please wait! I have no where else to go!" Crag called back to him. Ganondorf paused in the middle of the road along with his gerudo band. Crag waited for an answer, until he saw Ganondorf shoulders shake. Crag looked away. It reminded him when Link mocked him not to long ago. He didn't want to think of his friendanymore. Ganondorf then laughed a sickening laugh. Crag's black hair on the back of his head stood on ends.
"You come with us, you must be joking!" Ganondorf said, turning around to show Crag the smirk on his face. Crag grimaced and looked away again.
"I...don't belong with the Sheikah anymore," Crag said looking down to his boots. Ganondorf's eyebrows shoot up in fake concern.
"Well that's terrible! Little old Sheikah doesn't belong. Boo hoo!" Ganondorf said with heavy sarcasm. Crag clenched his hand in anger.
"It wasn't my fault." It was Link. Ganondorf smirked again and turned around.
"Not your fault? How could it not be your fault. You're a weakling," Ganondorf smiled beginning to walk again.
"It was Link!" Crag shouted back his thoughts. Ganondorf groaned and looked back, again.
"I want to get moving! So if you want to continue, you will be dead before you reach the desert!" Ganondorf cried walking faster along with his group.
"But...Link is the one who killed Nalla!"
The gerudos stopped in there tracks, and finally Ganondorf listened to the Sheikah. Crag saw the effect on the crowd and smiled to himself. He wasn't sure if it was Link who was at the square who killed the gerudo, but who else would it be? Sheikah hardly ever visit the capital city. Crag also thought that the gerudo group wouldn't believe him either. What proof did he have? None. Why did he want to join the band of thieves anyway? He had already gotten himself in trouble, so why worsen his chances? He was also wondering why he was alive. He had heard screaming, and then he felt an oncoming darkness. So what had happened to him?
"Really?" Ganondorf said stepping closer to Crag. He secretly loved to have revenge. Crag nodded slowly and the gerudos grew silent. "How can I tell your not bluffing me?" the male gerudo asked. Crag thought for a moment and decided to tell them everything, about how Link had took his position and how he ended up here. Ganondorf remained silent through Crag's tale, frowning and nodding his head in understanding. "I wonder Sheikah, what makes you think it's this Link and not any more of your kind?" Crag bit his lip on the question.
"Because...I told you...he was probably there, and besides. Sheikah hardly visit Castle Town," Crag said, talking to ganon as if they have known each other for forever. He knew he was telling the gerudo dangerous information on telling them that the Sheikah don't guard the city, but what else could he lose? Ganon nodded.
"So...who are you? Crog, Crash? Anyway, you seem to have been having a...revengeful time. But I'm still not sure if I should let you come..."
"I'll tell you everything."
"Everything?"
"Everything," Crag finished smirking slightly. That will teach them. If he, say, told the gerudo where the Hidden Village was? He still hadn't decided on that, it had been his home.
"Fine. You can come with us, as long as you tell us everythingonce we get there," Ganon said. He held out his hand for Crag to shake. If Crag didn't know, he was probably holding the hands of a bear. Crag still wasn't sure if he should tell the gerudo everything, but who makes promises?
"Impa?" Link said as they went through the double doors of the library. Zelda was surprised as well when she saw Impa. The sheikah had told her that her mother had come home after a sudden journey that even Zelda, her daughter, didn't know of. Impa then had given her a letter from the Queen, giving hardly any detail of what she was doing. After almost two years her mother has returned and she doesn't even tell Zelda in the letter that she loved her. She had to admit, both of her parents were strict. And she hoped that the King hasn't told her what she was doing the past week.
Impa looked over to Link and frowned. "Yes?" Impa replied in a low humor. Zelda looked at both of them and saw what made up of there relationship; Link's straying eyes, looking next to Impa instead of at her, and Impa's constant gaze at Link, lingering on his eye's. Something made Zelda wonder why Impa was looking at his eyes. And also, Impa's worried face. Was something bothering her? Zelda was confused.
"So, Impa, why are you here?" Zelda asked. Impa hesitated and finally took her red eyes off of Link. She had been slightly suspicious, about his eyes. She thought she had saw something...but whatever it was Impa couldn't put her finger on it.
"Sorry your highness."– Zelda made a face–"...Zelda. I was wondering if I could talk to Link for a moment, alone," Impa said her gaze looking at Link again. The guardian tried to look back, but years of scolding from his tutor had brung a habit of "If you don't look at her, she probably won't look back". Of coarse this never worked, as Impa always seemed to see through his thoughts. After all, he was the most mischievous of the class. Zelda nodded and opened the door to the library again. She really wanted to know what they were talking about, but she was obedient...
...Well sometimes she was. She put her ear to the door and tried to listen to the conversation. She ignored the few stares of the scholars.
"The Shaman is dying," she heard Impa say, even though it was not clear. She could not tell of how Link reacted, but she could tell it was not good, because a silence followed. "He saw his death on the night that...the search party for...Crag went out...and," Impa said, her voice unsteady. She heard Link gasp at that.
"Is Rupa all right? Was it those people who tried to shoot me on the day I left?" Link asked. Zelda pushed harder on the door. She wondered who this Rupa was. Maybe a friend of Link's. She heard shuffling of feet, from possibly Impa.
"Rupa is fine and is here with me," Impa replied.
"Rupa's here?" Link asked through excitement. Zelda heard Impa pause and guessed that she had nodded. "Can I see her?" Link asked, Zelda heard a smile in Link's voice. Impa hesitated again, probably thinking if Link should stay and guard like a faithful guardian should. Zelda was partially mad since she wanted Link to teach her how to fight, but it would be a burden for Link if she asked him to stay, so it would be better if he went to see Rupa. Who knows, maybe they can both teach her. And Zelda smiled, content on the silent agreement to herself, but it felt as if Impa had made a clear answer,
"No."
Zelda was about to open the library door to protest, but it would reveal that she had eavesdropped, so she stayed quiet.
"Link, remember that you put your duty before yourself. I still can't believe you passed. You never listened to me," Impa said. "And I don't think it's a good idea to get too close to Rupa," Impa added. Zelda sighed. She wished she wasn't a princess and that people would treat her like any other person, but instead she is Link's duty. She hated that.
"Why...not?" Link asked with caution. Impa hesitated. Zelda thought she was hiding something from Link. Impa seemed a little frustrated as she answered.
"Because...that's how it's suppose to be."
"This is just like New Years," Link said. Zelda felt poking on her back, but she shrugged it off, intensely listening to the conversation.
"No...it's not..." Impa started.
"Then what is it? So I can't be friends with Rupa?" Link retorted.
"Link no, just listen to m-"
"Do you really think I'll do that?" Link asked, aggravated. A long silence followed and at this time Zelda's entire head was pushed on the door, wondering what will happen next. It was strange that Impa was doing this too, maybe if she relived Link it would be better. It would also be suspicious; she had been waiting for this ever since she went through the boring library.
"Excuse me princess," a scholar said poking the princess on her shoulder.
"What!" Zelda yelled, up to the brim with annoyance from the poking in her back. Luckily the silence in the other room lingered on. The scholar, almost twenty and slightly rude, took a step back from her reaction.
"Well...I was wondering...what you where doing. It's kind of...distracting," the scholar said, searching for the words. Zelda stared at him for a silent moment then went to the door again.
"Ignore me."
"Yes princess,"he answered immediately in embarrassment. She heard the scholars foot steps fade and she pricked her ear to the conversation again.
"You will listen to me now," Impa said after the minutes of silence. She heard her Guardian laugh without humor as Impa talked.
"About what?" Link asked.
"About...nothing," Impa replied. Zelda sighed heavily in annoyance from Impa's persistency. She thought that Impa had heard her sigh and quickly used it as an excuse. "I think your making the princess wait too long, for now you return to where ever Zelda was going, and do your duty," Impa said and Zelda heard Impa walk away. Link then laughed humorlessly.
"Duty..." he whispered under his breath, and after that Zelda couldn't make out the words. Before Link came to the door, she straightened out. He opened the door and his face was once again grim. This time Zelda didn't comment it but just smiled back a little uneasy.
"So...can we go now," Zelda asked impatiently. Instead of the normal smile, Link nodded and stepped aside so Zelda could go through. If only she could excuse him, but he would never agree, but after what he had whispered dutyin a doubting voice, she was also sure that he would deep down inside agree to go visit Rupa anyway...
But inside of her, she felt like protesting after him if he did...
