Chapter Ten
*Renesmee's POV*
I laughed as Grace told me the story of the time her dad took her and her brother fishing. It's now November here in New York and it's nearing close to Lizzy's birthday and Thanksgiving. There hasn't been a sign of any threats lately, so we've come to the conclusion that my attacker was a simple city mugger.
Grace and I were currently in French and we had a few minutes before class would began, and for some reason Grace and I got onto the topic of embarrassing family stories.
Ever since we met up at the park Grace and I have been talking much more often lately. I have even tried to get Lisa into the conversations more, but Grace still seems a little hesitant. I don't know what's she scared of, but she's scared of something when it comes to her old life. I just wish she'd open up more about what's bothering her because maybe I could help.
"So my brother didn't notice the hook was attached to his pocket and when my cousin went to swing the fishing pole, it ripped the shorts right off his pants."
"No way! That's hilarious." I laughed as I opened up my book. "You should have seen us when we use to live in Washington. We one time were at the beach and Masen picked up a baby hermit crab. He decided to put it into his pocket, but then the crab pinched him in the butt and he went screaming to my mom. He was only three at the time," I said, thinking back to some memories we had in Washington. It was something a long time ago, when Lorenzo was hunting our family. Jake, Seth, and our parents took us all to the beach for a day to get our mind off of everything. Masen was still a baby practically so when the crab had bit him, it did hurt him since he wasn't 100% bullet proof yet.
"Oh yeah, I forgot you're from Washington. You talk a lot about Brazil for the most part," Grace mused.
"Yeah. I lived there for a long time before Brazil. I was born in Washington and lived there until I was about ten," I muttered, sighing a bit.
"Really? Hmmm. You know, I actually use to go out to Washington because it was where my dad was from before he moved to New York. He met my mom in college here and decided to stay here to be with her. His whole family is there still...We use to go out to this small little town every summer. And we'd also go to Seattle a lot. It was always a second home to us," Grace whispered softly, playing with a strand of hair. "But then...But then my...my dad died...and then Robert..." She began to trail off, looking at the ground.
"You lost your father too?" I whispered without thinking. Grace nodded as she semi looked up at me.
"I was about ten when he died. It's okay though. It happened a long time ago," she muttered, looking down on her feet.
"I'm sorry I even brought it up," I said, touching her forearm gently.
"No, it's okay. I don't mind. It's okay," She told me, giving me a half smile. I smiled back at her.
"You know...Grace, you can talk to me about anything you'd like. I'm going to be there for you 'cause that's what friends do," I told her softly.
She gave me a half smile. "Thanks, Ness. But this isn't something I can tell many people. Actually any at all really. I'm sorry, I really am."
"Don't be. It's fine. Anyway, class is going to begin," I responded, motioning to our teacher. She nods as we both pay attention to our French lesson.
I just wish I could figure out Grace Martin. She's a good person and a great friend, I just wish I could get to know her better.
When we walked out of French class Lisa came towards us with Tori rushing by her side. Both looked pretty excited about something.
"Did you guys see the new kids?" Tori asked us with a small smile on her face.
"New kids?" Grace questioned, her eyebrows furrowed together.
"I don't know. They're all siblings, except the boy has a different last name. Their the Peterson's," Tori explained to us. "They just moved here."
"So...This is what you guys did when my family moved to New York?" I teased with them. The others chuckled and shook their heads.
"Nah. We don't gossip much. But they're the talk of the school. Apparently they're all gorgeous kids," Tori said in a joking tone.
"Gorgeous kids? You're talking about me?" Lily exclaimed as she came in with Carly by her side. I rolled my eyes at her.
"No not you princess, some kids that moved here. They're apparently the center of attention around her," I told her. Lily frowned hearing this.
"Oh really? Center of attention," She stressed on the word to me. I looked at her warily as she then mouthed 'vampires' without the others noticing.
"Well I don't really care." I shrugged, playing it off. "Probably nothing important," I said, winking at Lily.
"Okay...Well why don't we head to lunch then," Grace muttered. I blushed. I think she just noticed our little mannerisms.
"You're joining us?" Lisa asked eagerly, looking at Grace.
"Um..."
"Come on Grace, it'll be fun," I said to her, nudging her a bit. "You don't have to say anything or just...Please. We want you to hang out with us."
Grace hesitated, but after a sigh she looked up at us. "Alright. Let's go."
"Yay!" Carly cheered. "We missed you at the table, girl! Now let's go! I want to see these Peterson's!"
We all laughed as we headed to lunch as a group. When we got there I think Dylan, Bryan, and even Masen were surprised to see Grace sit down with us. She was at the edge of the table, but it was close enough.
"Hey Grace," Masen greeted her, smiling softly. "How are you?"
"Good," She said, her voice slightly squeaky. "I've been good. You?"
"Same," He replied simply. I smiled at the two. They were so meant to be. I shared a look with Lily, knowing that we were both thinking the same thing. Grace and Masen are the perfect couple bond to happen. Now somehow we just have to get Grace to trust us better and we'll be all good.
Soon the whole table erupted in chit chat. Grace wasn't talking really though, she did take out her book moments later. Even though Masen was talking with Bryan, Dylan, and Aidan, he couldn't help but share a few glances with Grace, making her cheeks a bright red.
"So...Grace, how have you been?" Lisa asked, trying to include Grace in the conversation.
"I'm good," She simply replied, fiddling with her book. "How about you? How's little Josh and Sadie? I haven't seen those two in awhile."
Lisa smiled, "Josh and Sadie are good. They actually got in trouble the other day for ruining our neighbor's plants...You remember old Mrs. Daniels? Right?"
"Oh my gosh, how could I forget." Grace all of a sudden giggled. "We both got into so much trouble for that."
"I remember that too," Tori chimed in, smiling as well. "It was all Bryan's idea."
"I was not!" Bryan called out from his conversation. "Don't judge me!"
"What happened?" I asked, giggling a bit as I saw their reactions.
"Oh, we just thought it would be a fun idea to play a couple of pranks on our grouchy old neighbor. In the end we got caught, but it was all worth it," Lisa explained, chuckling up a storm.
"Oh my gosh, there they are," Carly whispered. "Isn't it?"
"Who?" Dylan questioned his little sister.
"Yep, that's them," Tori said softly. "Here they come."
That's when four students made their way across the cafeteria. When I saw who the last one was, the boy, I felt my jaw unhinge. I haven't seen him in a long time, but I recognized him in a heartbeat even if he didn't look the same as he once did long ago.
"The Peterson's," Lisa whispered, filling in for him. "Serena, Maysun, Jennifer, and Nahuel."
Nahuel.
The same man who saved my family and I from the wrath of the Volturi. The four people in front of me where the only other people I know that are of my kind besides Lily and Aidan. I can't believe it, Nahuel still looks like the same man I saw years ago, except he seems a bit more modernized.
Nahuel had light olive skin. It wasn't rustic like Jake's, it was a slightly lighter shade. The hair that was once in a long black braid was now cut off to a much shorter length. He was wearing our school uniform shirt with a pair of long brown khaki's. I kind of liked the other version of Nahuel a bit more, the old fashioned one, but I guess the modern way was nice too. But Nahuel did have a certain charm to him. He looked mysterious, yet kind of...hot. I already know half the girls in this school, a.k.a Madeline, are going to be lining up to try to get his attention.
Next to Nahuel was a female with curly blonde hair. Her hair wasn't blonde like Lily and Aidan's were it was a dark blonde or like Grace's golden blonde. Her hair was a very pale blonde, close to white, and she had blue eyes. She seemed really happy as she walked amongst her siblings; however, the other two didn't look very happy. Next to the pale blonde girl were two girls. The first you could tell was her sister because of her similar facial features and dirty blonde hair. Except this girl has gray eyes. The other girl looked like she could be Nahuel's sister for sure, with her long black curly hair and brown eyes like his. Instead of Nahuel's olive skin tone though, this girl had a much darker complexion. Plus there were a few facial features that separated her from Nahuel.
That's when my eyes met Nahuel's, and when they met he smiled gently at me.
"Nahuel," I whispered, looking at him without realizing the whole table was listening. "I can't believe it."
"You know him?" Grace asked me gently.
The others in my family looked alarmed and I nodded, "It was a very very long time ago, but yes I know him. I've never met his sisters though," I murmured, looking at the family sit down at the table.
"You should go say hi to him," Lily announced, shrugging. "I'm sure he'd be surprised to see you."
"Lil, I don't even think the guy remembers me, especially since the last time I saw him I was half the size I am now," I replied.
"Where do you know him from?" Dylan questioned, his eyebrows furrowed together.
"Oh, when we were kids Nessie made friends with him in Brazil. Thing is he moved when we were like thirteen," Aidan said nonchalantly as he played with the apple on his trey. "Guy saved Nessie from falling flat on her face on the playground, twice."
"Yeah, that's where I know him from," I said, smiling as I sent Aidan a wink in thanks.
"Oh, well you should probably say hi to him. See if he remembers you," Lisa suggested, smiling at me. "Anyway he is kind of cute, might as well introduce yourself anyway."
"Alright," I said, taking a deep breath.
"Wait, hold up. No sister of mine is introducing herself to a boy!" Masen said, now sitting up with a frown.
"Mase, I'm not planning to hit on him, if that's what you mean," I said, frowning back at my brother. "You can come if you want."
"No...ugh...Fine, but I'll be watching," He mumbled, narrowing his eyes towards Nahuel's table. "Just be safe."
I rolled my eyes at him, "I will. Don't worry. It's only a few feet away."
This seemed to amuse Masen as he chuckled at me. I shook my head as I looked at my table one last time before I made my way towards Nahuel's table. I could feel that some people were staring at me, but I ignored the stares.
"Hi," I said, once I approached the table.
"What do you want?" the dirty blonde sneered, looking at me.
"Um..."
"Renesmee? Renesmee Cullen?" Nahuel said, a soft smile playing on his lips.
"Yeah, that's me. The one and only," I said, smiling at them.
"I had a feeling we'd run in here. I heard your family relocated to this city," Nahuel said to me. "Do you want to sit?" he offered his hand to the nearby seat.
"Nah, I'm good. I'm with my friends. I just wanted to say hi," I replied. "So...What made you guys come to New York?"
"It was Nahuel's decision," The dirty blonde hissed. "Since our father is gone he's the only family us girls have left."
"Oh right, I'm sorry about your father. We were told he um..."
"Passed away? More like brutally murdered by the Volturi. Thanks for that by the way," she growled as she then stood up. "And let me be honest, I don't like your family. I'm going to spend the rest of lunch somewhere else."
She then turned to her dark haired sister, "Come on May, let's go somewhere that doesn't have any Cullen members."
The girl, May, looked at Nahuel, and then back at her before sighing. "Fine."
The dirty blonde then marched away with the dark haired girl tagging right behind her.
"I'm sorry about Serena, and Maysun too. They haven't done well since our father's death," the pale blonde spoke up. "I'm Jennifer, by the way."
"Oh, it's okay. I don't blame her for being mad at us. The Volturi kind of did find out about Joham through us," I mumbled.
"It's not your fault. Our father was going to get in trouble anyway. He was causing too much trouble. Before he died he was trying to create some sort of army. We were in Australia at the time, but then things got out of hand. May and I decided we'd go visit Nahuel in Chile at the time while Serena stayed with our dad...Next thing you know Serena is calling us that the Volturi attacked," Jennifer said softly. "I really hate those guys."
"You're not the only one." I weakly chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. She looked up and gave me a half smile before turning to her brother.
"My aunt found her mate and I wanted to give them some place, and my sisters and I decided to come here for a change. Plus Jenny's always wanted to come back to the states," Nahuel explained me. Jennifer nodded in agreement as she smiled at me and then her brother.
"That's nice. Well, if you need anything, don't hesitate to say anything. You can come over tonight, if you want. I'll give you our address, I'm sure everyone else who hasn't met you would like to meet you," I said to him.
"Everyone else?"
"I have a few new family members. Long story, but we'll tell if you come," I told him, smiling.
"I'd like that." He smiled back at me. "What do you say Jen?"
"Sure, I wouldn't mind coming. Serena and May might not want to come though," She said, fiddling with a ring on her finger.
"It's fine. Maybe they'll come when they cool off. Anyway, I'll see you around," I told them as I slowly headed back to our table.
"Sure, see you around Renesmee," Nahuel said to me, waving.
"It's Nessie. Call me Nessie," I told him as I made my back to the table. I couldn't help but grin a bit as I sat next to Grace and Lisa.
"So, how did it go?" Lisa asked me.
"Pretty good actually. We're going to meet up later, I invited him over to the house," I said, looking at my family.
"Um yeah sure, it'll be cool to talk with him and stuff," Masen said, looking back towards their lunch table. Masen then reached under the table to grab my hand, without anyone else knowing.
"Hey, what's with the other two girls?"
"They're Serena and Maysun. Serena's pissed at our family because she thinks we're responsible for her father's death. Remember crazy Lorenzo's friend, Joham?"
"Oh right...Joham...Look, I just don't trust them. Be careful Ness, he may have saved our family but that doesn't mean I have to like him," He said to me via his mind.
"You sound like Lily. I'm sure Nahuel's fine. What's Serena going to do against a coven of powerful vampires anyway?" I questioned.
"You never know. We said the same about Lorenzo." Masen pointed out as he let go of my head. I then processed that through my head and bit my lip. He does have a point, but Nahuel saved my family from doom. He wouldn't harm us...Right? I guess I just have to keep myself on my toes.
"Anyway they're coming over tonight. We'll decide then if they're evil or not."
Masen just shrugged at me as he forced a bite of an apple down his throat. I don't think he held it in for that long because next thing you know he was coughing it up.
"Are you okay?" Grace asked him.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just swallowed it the wrong way," Masen responded, coughing. "Don't need to go to the E.R or anything."
"Alright, good." Grace chuckled. I sighed. Damn, why can't I get those two to get together sometime soon.
Well I'd have Nahuel's visit to look forward to tonight. I wonder how's that going to go.
~oOo~
"So...Nauhel is coming over later?" Grace asked me as we walked out of music class together. Aidan was right behind us being a goofball with Bryan. "Your brother seemed a bit apprehensive about it."
"He was, but he was just being a bit of a stick in the mud. Don't worry, my sister and brother in law are fine with it. We were friends once," I told her. I did text my parents after I invited the Peterson's, and they seemed okay with it. I wasn't too worried.
"You should come," I offered, trying to coax Grace into becoming more social with my family. I have been trying to get her over for the past couple of weeks, but she won't budge at all.
"I can't come today...But how do you feel about maybe hanging out with each other next weekend?" she asked me, bitting her lip.
I looked at her with a bit of surprise. "Really?"
"Yes, really. You can come over my place if you want, only thing is my mom won't be there," Grace told me.
"Come to my place, we have all the toys and whistles, plus the rest of my family wants to meet you," I said to her, sending her a pleading look.
"I guess...I feel bad, but I would like to meet them as well." Grace smiled.
"Good! They're dying to meet a friend of mine. Trust me, it'll be fun. And if we get bored we can always go out," I suggested to her.
"Yeah. That would be nice. I haven't gone out in awhile and my mom's been bugging me to go live a bit," Grace teased, making me chuckle.
"Nessie!" I heard the cry of my little sister. I turned around to see Lizzy running over to me with a grin.
"Sweet pea, how's it going?" I said, lifting her into my arms. Grace smiled timidly as Lizzy gave me a hug.
"Is this Grace?" Lizzy asked all of a sudden, studying my friend.
"Um yes, Liz. This is Grace, she's my friend. Grace, this is Edward's little sister," I explained, introducing the two.
"Pleasure," Lizzy said, reaching her hand out to shake Grace's hand. Grace chuckled as she shook Lizzy's back.
"Pleasure to meet you too Miss Lizzy. Nessie's told me so much about you." Grace smiled, causing Lizzy to smile as well.
"Aw, we'll she's a sister to me and Masen is a brother," Lizzy replied in a heartfelt tone, still smiling at Grace. I frowned as I looked at my sister. Something tells me she's hiding something. "So how do you feel about-"
"Lizzy!" Masen yelled, coming over to us. "Um, Ness, Grace. What a pleasant surprise! Hey, can I talk to Lizzy for a few moments?" He asked rather quickly as he picked Lizzy up and threw her over his shoulder.
"Masen! You put me down this instant!" Lizzy growled as he ran off with her. I frowned in confusion as I shared a look with Grace.
"Do they normally act like that?" Grace asked, clearly amused.
"Not all the time." I chuckled. "I don't know, Lizzy probably did something to piss him off."
"Aw, well it's cute," Grace said, smiling fondly at Masen, who was saying something to Lizzy. Maybe Grace does see something in Masen. I for one think he see's something in her. That would be so cute if they fell in love or at least went out with one another. It would be interesting to see someone around here earn some romantic action.
"Come on Nessie! We've got dinner to prepare," My dad called out as he took Lizzy out of Masen's grasp.
"Your brother in law I assume?" Grace asked, motioning to my father.
"Yep. Married my sister. I still don't know what she see's in him," I joked, sending my father a wink. He just rolled his eyes as he opened up the Volvo door for me.
"I'll see you soon," I said to Grace, waving at her as I backed away towards the car.
"You too Ness!" She replied as she then scurried up the block. That girl is still a big mystery to me.
"Nessie!" I looked to see Nahuel making his way over with Jennifer right behind him.
"Your aunt had a vision about us having dinner with them this morning. Wasn't surprised when I got the text," my dad muttered to me.
Ever since Aunt Alice got a vision about Lily and Aidan, she's been getting a few more about hybrids themselves. She never did before, but Grandpa Carlisle believes maybe it's because we were half human and she was human once. We believe Alice's visions are based on what she was in her past lives and lately my aunt's power seems to be growing a bit. It's extending and reaching out to people who are part human, like us, even though they may be a bit fuzzy. Maybe it's due to us coming into her life, but the world may never know.
"Edward Cullen, it's good to see you again," Nahuel said to my father as he stretched his hand towards him. "It's almost been six years and I seen your family has grown."
"Yes, Nahuel. It's good to see you again...And?" He asked, looking towards Jen as she stood behind Nahuel.
"This is my half sister, Jennifer. My other two sister's won't be joining us today because they're..."
"They don't like our family," Lily said, cutting Nahuel off as she then narrowed her eyes at him. "Yeah, I've heard." She then climbed into the car with Aidan awkwardly standing in the middle.
"She's just um pissed that her nail broke," Aidan quickly said as he climbed into the car after her.
"It's fine," Nahuel said, breaking the tension. "I know she might not like us due to the fact of my sisters, but they're just still angry at the world over the death of our father."
"It's fine Nahuel. Why don't you and Jennifer meet us up at the house," my dad told him as I then climbed into the car.
"Sound's great. Thanks again for letting us come over sir," Nahuel said as my dad climbed into the car.
"No problem, see you then," I said to him as I waved goodbye.
As we drove deeper into the city Lily huffed. "I don't trust any of them, not one bit."
"Welcome to the club Lily Bean," Masen said, looking towards our cousin.
"They don't seem too bad," Aidan defended them quickly. "Jenny seems nice, she's in a few of my classes...You know she likes engineering! And building, and-"
"Wow. Someone's getting geeky over a girl," Lily said, looking at her brother. "You don't have a crush or a-"
"Oh god no! I'm single and I plan to stay that way for awhile. I want to live out my manly hood!" Aidan replied. I frowned as I shared a look with the others.
"You go do that Aidan," Lizzy said, nudging him. "Anyway, I agree. Jen and Nahuel seem like good people. From what I have gathered from their minds they're pretty good people, right Daddy?"
"She is right, they seem clean as far as I'm concerned," my dad responded as he turned down our street. "You don't have to trust Maysun and Serena, but at least have a bit of faith in Nahuel and Jennifer. They don't seem bad."
"Fine, their minds were clean, but that doesn't mean I still have to like them," Masen said sharply as he looked out the window. "Anyway, Ness, why the hell did you invite her over!?"
"Who?" I questioned, my eyebrows furrowed as I looked at him. "Grace?"
"Yes her! The blonde one!" He grumbled.
"Grace, yes. What do you mean why? She's my friend? Why can't I?" I snapped at him.
"Because...Because...I said so," Masen remarked, frowning. "Just don't Nessie!"
"No." I huffed, frowning at him. "She's my friend, so get over it!"
"Stop," Lizzy growled at us before my dad could say anything. "Masen, you and I seriously have to talk, again! And anyway, Nessie is allowed to invite her friends over to our house! You are not her dad! Daddy is!"
"Thanks for the backup, Liz." Our dad chuckled as he turned into our driveway. "And Masen, she's right. We'll have a talk later. Nessie, you're allowed to invite Grace over. I'm sure the whole family would love to meet her."
"Thanks Daddy." I smiled at him, but I looked over to Masen. He was currently frowning at the ground.
"Are you okay?" I asked him mentally. "Masen, you're my brother. You can tell me anything. Anything at all, you know that. Right?"
"Later," he mouthed to me. I nodded with a sigh as I looked at our home.
"Ah, Cullen family drama. Gotta love it," Lily said. I rolled my eyes at her as I got out of the car and headed towards the house. Nahuel and Jen were right behind us and were both smiling fondly.
"Jen!" Aidan exclaimed, greeting her. "What's up?"
"Nothing much." She chuckled as Lizzy came running besides Aidan.
"You must be Jennifer. Do you want to come help us? We're building a place for us to hang out in the backyard," Lizzy announced as she nudged Aidan.
"Um sure." Jennifer smiled. "I'd love to help you guys."
"Good, now come on," Lizzy said as she dragged Jennifer's hand. "I've been wanting another girl to hang around. Life with Seth and Aidan can get a little hectic."
Jennifer chuckled as her, Aidan, and Lizzy went out to our backyards to build the fort or whatever it is.
"I'm going to find Ethan. Lily Bean, want to come with me?" Masen asked grumpily as he headed towards the house.
"Yeah, I'm coming." She sighed as she ran over to my brother. I bit my lip as I turned to my guest. He smiled softly at me as I approached him.
"So, you seem like you have a nice family," Nahuel said to me as he shoved his hands into his pockets.
"They are, it's just sometimes they get nervous about the unknown. We've been through a lot growing up, especially the others. I've had probably more time in my life where I could live carefree. A lot of them were born into times where are family was in danger, like Masen. The moment he came into this world hell was breaking loose," I explained to Nahuel as I fiddled with Jake's bracelet on my hand. "But, they're good people and I promise they'll warm up to you in time."
"Okay." He smiled at me as I then took his arm and let him to the house. "Come on, I'll show you around."
"Alright, lead the way." He chuckled as I went to show him around the house.
I brought him all around the house and to greet the rest of my family. I also talked to Nahuel about a bunch of things. He seemed like a really cool guy. I learned that him and his sisters have a condo about ten minutes away from here and they have a really nice view of the city. He also told me all about his Aunt Hulien and her newfound mate, Paulo. Apparently the two are happily married and Nahuel wanted to give his aunt some privacy, so him and his sisters left the amazon and came to the states for a bit. Hulien and Paulo paid for the condo and their coven is even switching to animal blood, all of them. Apparently they were influenced by our lifestyle six years ago since they were tired of killing humans and wanted to try something different.
"Where's Jacob?" I asked my mom as I finished showing Nahuel around the house. "He's usually around here."
"He was in the garage. I think he was cleaning up, but he should be done by now," my mom muttered, looking around the house.
"Here I am!" Jacob cried out as he came over to me. I notice he just took a shower since his black hair was all wet and he had a nice fresh clean scent. I love when he takes showers because he always smells like men's body wash mixed with a woodsy type of scent.
I grinned at Jake as I went to throw my arms around him. He then twirled me in a hug like he always does when he misses me.
"Who's this?" Nahuel asked as Jacob placed me down on the ground. He looked at Jake warily while Jacob looked back at him with narrowed eyes. I could feel the grip he had on me tighten a bit. I frowned as I stepped out of his arms and headed in between the middle of them.
"Jacob, this is Nahuel...He saved our family from the Volturi, remember?" I said softly to Jacob. It felt as if daggers were piercing the air around me. I could feel loads of tension coming off from the two.
"Yeah...I remember, nice to see you again," Jake said to him.
"You too," Nahuel replied, nodding his head. I looked back and forth at the two men in front of me with wary eyes.
"Hey, how about we all go to the diner table. Esme's prepared a meal for you guys," My mom announced, breaking the awkwardness between the two.
"Yeah, let's go," Jacob muttered as he headed out of the room.
"This way," I told Nahuel as I led him by the arm to the dinning room, towards the scent of human food. It smelt pretty good since I haven't ate anything in awhile, human wise. I'm pretty much 50/50 when it comes to meals. I'll drink blood more though, it tastes more...appetizing.
I sighed as I sat down next to Nahuel with Jacob across from me. I could see something was bothering him, and something was bothering me too. I just don't know what yet.
*Jacob's POV*
"Are you okay?" Bella asked me as I watched Nessie talk to Nahuel. Currently I could feel jealously bubbling at my skin. I don't know why, but I don't like the way he was looking her. He looked at her like how I looked at Bella when I was in love, or how I look at Renesmee now. With love and adoration. I know it's kind of silly that I'm probably getting worked up over this, but the way he's looking at her...Something tells me he wants to be more than friends with my imprint.
"You seem a little...Frustrated?" She said, looking at me with golden eyes.
"I am, but it's not something I want to talk about right now," I mummer as I look at the two.
Personally I feel like this whole trip to New York has become my least favorite move by the Cullen family. I was happy that Bells was going to become a teacher and some of the other Cullen's would be majoring in some sort of thing, but I really feel like we would have been better somewhere else. I hate cities, I really do. I don't love the feeling of being trapped in a place filled with millions of people. There wasn't anything peaceful about it, and I missed my dad and the guys...But this was our home for now. Anywhere Nessie, Bella, and the other Cullen's are is my home now. Anyway, it's not the worst thing in the world, at least I have Seth to accompany me.
While Ness is at school I spend most of my time either doing what I normally did. I toy around with my bikes or hang with Bells or Seth like we use to. Since she goes to night school and Edward's here for half of the day, we normally spend time in the garage together. She's still my best friend at least and I don't think it'll be awkward if Nessie and I get together.
Renesmee is what has been keeping me alive all these years. Even though she wasn't born yet, my relationship with Bella was all her. Renesmee was the center of my universe since day one, and I just didn't even know it yet. I just want her to be happy, and as much as I hate this Nahuel guy, if he is what she wants, then so be it. But I really hope that doesn't have to come to that. I really don't like this one. To think, I thought I hated Edward, mostly because of my hatred of vampires at the time and the fact Bella loved him. It was more so jealously, and that could be why I don't really like this Nahuel.
"Are you jealous?" She whispered in my ear, low enough so I could only hear. "Because I'm pretty sure she just thinks of him as a friend."
"Bells." I sighed as I leant against the wall. "What if I am. Is that a bad thing or..."
"Not exactly...You know, Edward was jealous of you," Bella replied simply. "And you were of him. It was silly, but Jake...I really hope this isn't going to turn into a blood bath between you and him because you'll just put her through hell. Look, I really believe that you two were meant to be. I believe it, after all she was attracting me to you for a good couple of years, I just knew it was going to happen. You two have a strong bond. A bond that won't be broken."
"Bella, just because we're imprints..."
"Jacob, you're really doubting yourself right now. I think what you two have is stronger than an imprinting bond. Personally," Bella said as she looked fondly at her daughter.
"Since when did you become supportive of my possible relationship with Nessie?" I asked her, smirking.
Bella rolled her eyes as she nudged me playfully. "I'm her mother, I know things. Plus she was a part of me and I can feel it. I'm not going to stop her from loving the one person she was meant to be with on this whole entire planet. Jake, you're the one she was meant to love."
"Aw, thanks Bells," I teased as I wrapped my arms playfully around her. Bella chuckled as she wrapped hers tighter around my neck.
"Don't thank me, Jake. Just be happy you have my blessing," She said, winking at me. I rolled my eyes at her.
"Just don't ruin it by being jealous. Everything shall fall into place. Promise me you won't get pigheaded and stubborn, and just let things take their time," Bella said to me, looking into my eyes.
"Promise," I said to her. She smiled softly at me as she gave me peck on the cheek.
"Good. Now if you don't mind, I have a husband of mine to attend to." She winked at me as she pulled away to join Edward, who was shaking his head in amusement at us.
"Go." I chuckled as she then dashed forward to Edward. I watched as they kissed and he wrapped her up in his arms. I want that love. Not their love, but I want to love someone like that. I want to wrap a girl up in my arms and I never want to let her go.
"Are you okay?" I looked over to see Masen coming up next to me. "You sound um puzzled?"
"Do you and your mother both have some observant gene?" I mused as he leant against the wall with me.
"Yeah, but I also have my father's mind reading gene," Masen replied smugly as he tapped his forehead. "I know you love you-know-who. It's not that hard to figure out Jakey ole boy."
"So, I know you like that girl Grace. It's not that hard either," I remarked, glancing at him. Masen shrugged as he looked down at the floor.
"About that, it's not love..."
"Oh come on man, I'm not that dumb. She's your mate. I know a few things about love, you'd be surprised," I muttered as I glanced back at Renesmee. She was giggling at something Nahuel said and he was slightly glaring at me when he noticed me looking over.
"What if it wasn't meant to be...I'm not sure I want her to get hurt or anything," Masen mumbled as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I don't want me being a vampire creature freak her out or cause her any harm to her."
"Masen, you won't hurt her," I said to him.
"How do you know that one doggy boy?" Masen asked, cocking an eyebrow up.
"I know things," I replied. Masen just chuckled as he turned to me.
"I'm just nervous about what I could do, that's all."
"Look, Masen, you're father was scared of the same thing and he protected your mother with his life. If you love this girl, you fight for her. She's meant to be yours and your meant to be hers. The universe wants you two to be together. Don't be stubborn and push her away. It'll only do harm," I explained to him.
"We'll see...But I still don't want to jeopardize anything," He muttered, rubbing that chain he keeps in his pocket. "Anyway, don't let him bother you. I'm on the same page as you at this moment."
"About what?" I asked, leaning closer to Masen. "About..."
"About Nahuel. I don't trust him and I can tell you don't trust him either. Don't deny it, I can read your mind." He told me with his power. I nodded softly.
"It's not because he's eyeing Nessie funny...I just feel like Nahuel has brought trouble with him. Call it an animal instinct." I replied in my mind. Masen chuckled as he patted my back to make it seem casual so the others wouldn't notice our mental exchange.
"Me and you both buddy. Lily and Ethan are wary about him, but I on the other hand don't like him. Let's just both keep our eyes open, okay?" I nod in agreement as he walks towards the other room. I looked towards Nahuel again and furrow my eyebrows together. At least I have one person on my side.
Later that night when Nahuel and his sister left, I was watching T.V with Nessie. I smiled as she surfed through all the channels next to me.
"Can you please pick one?" I teased with her as she flipped through them all.
"Nah. I kind of like annoying you, considering it's one of your biggest pet peeves." Renesmee winked at me. I chuckled as I tried to take the remote from her. She giggled as next thing you know it, I pull her closer to me and she's on me. Her hands were on my chest and her big brown eyes were looking into mine. We blink a bit as we both stare at one another.
"Um, here you go," Renesmee said, blushing as she climbed off and shoved the remote in my direction.
"No, it's okay," I replied. She smiled softly as she changed the station to some old movie from the 80's. I smiled as she came closer to me, but soon her head was resting against my arm.
I then wrapped an arm around her small frame and brought her even closer to me. I heard her sigh in content as she closed her eyes. I slowly went to stroke her hair, not even paying attention to the movie. Soon I could hear her breaths even out and heart beat slow down, indicating that she was asleep.
"You're so whipped." I look up in alarm to see Seth. He chuckled as he sent me a wink. "Don't worry, came to get some ice cream. Lizzy and I are playing chess. Right now, she's kicking my ass."
"Even though I kind of miss Ness being a kid, I like moments with her like this better," I said to him, chuckling as Renesmee curled into my side.
"I can't wait for Liz to be older. She probably heard me, but oh well. That girl knows all," Seth said. I laughed as he then left the room, leaving Ness and I.
I sighed as I looked out the screen door. I could see the lights from the cars passing by each other and still hear the commotion from the city. If I ever marry Ness, I hope we can go back to Forks. I want a nice quite home with her where we can spend peaceful nights like this in front of a fire or watch the stars.
I just hope that Nahuel isn't her true mate. It's selfish of me to wish that, but I don't care. I don't trust him and if he brings evil to this family, I'm going to be the first to get my hands on him.
