Author Note: it's been a while... a year and a bit actually. I didn't exactly update fast before, but it's hard to find the time. For the benefit of anyone who cares, it was mainly procrastination, writer's block, and boredom. The number one promise is that this fanfiction will be completed someday. If I can come back from a year's absence, then I can finish this thing. It's astounding that I have any followers left at this point, I can't say I deserve them, but please review and let me know what I can do to improve this fanfiction!

Tsssssssssssssssss…. The DK cannon began to shake violently in preparation to fire, jostling its occupant Diddy Kong to and fro. Captain Falcon jumped from several metres away, swinging his arm like a windmill.

"FALCON...PUNCH!" he cried as his fist completely obliterated the DK cannon in a fiery explosion from which he somehow emerged unscathed.

After being blasted from the cannon mere milliseconds earlier, Diddy Kong performed a 180 degree spin in mid-air and fired at Captain Falcon with high-speed peanuts from his dual guns. Falcon sidestepped, dodged, ducked, and pirouetted the peanuts before rolling under one and catching the final one between his teeth.

"Tasty…" he said, swallowing it whole. Then, with the speed of a cheetah and the ruthlessness of a cheater, he sprinted at Diddy Kong, who stared impassively at him. Seconds before Falcon reached Diddy, he stepped on the banana peel that had been discreetly placed there. And of course, everybody knows what the result of stepping on a banana peel is.

Falcon completely lost his balance and footing, and was sent flying through the air towards Diddy, propelled by momentum. Diddy Kong crouched low for maximum power, and launched upwards just as Falcon was above him, dealing a powerful blow that sent him skyrocketing. Diddy activated his barrel jetpacks and soared after his rapidly ascending adversary.

As Falcon shot upwards, Diddy Kong flew around him, punishing Falcon with a series of damaging punches and kicks. Then, when Falcon reached the peak of his ascent, Diddy Kong grabbed him by the foot, and flipped himself upside down. Diddy rocketed towards the ground at high speed, before letting go of Falcon.

The racer smashed into the ground painfully. Seeing Diddy Kong swooping down for another attack, Falcon ignored his pain and rolled aside, causing Diddy to crash to the ground.

Falcon leaped towards Diddy, elbow extended for a painful blow. Diddy dodged the attack and grabbed Falcon's leg, pulling him to the ground. Before Diddy could capitalise on this, Falcon picked him up by the tail and smashed him into the ground.

Getting to his feet, Falcon kicked the dazed ape hard in the torso, before picking him up and preparing for a Falcon Punch.

Before he could do so, however, Diddy whipped out his Peanut Popguns and gave Falcon a double-blast full in the face.

Falcon stumbled backwards dizzily as Diddy prepped his jetpack to shoot forwards and allow him to give the man a much more powerful punch. Unable to dodge in time, Falcon used his quickest ability: his Falcon Kick. His Falcon Kick hit Diddy just as the jetpack was activated and Diddy was blasted into the air- with Falcon clinging to his foot.

"Marth! What's going on here!?" yelled Ike as Marth levelled his sword at Ike's chest.

For a while now, Ike had suspected something was afoot; Marth's odd comedic demeanour resembled that of a cliched comic relief character in a lacklustre movie. It just didn't suit Marth at all. And now Marth had abruptly aimed his sword at Ike.

The Waiting Room fell into silence as all of its occupants struggled to comprehend what was happening, and waited in shock as Marth brandished his weapon at Ike.

"Marth...this isn't you. What are you doing?"

Marth ignored Ike's question with an expressionless face and uncomprehending eyes. The morbid Olimar, still fixated on the inevitability of his death, looked up.

"He looks just like Falcon did when Tabuu made him kill Red" he remarked.

Marth's face began to distort. The smashers watched in horror as Marth's face morphed into Tabuu's.

"Yes, well done, Olimar. I was beginning to think that nobody would figure it out". Tabuu's voice continued to emit from the mouth of Marth.

"I've been controlling Marth ever since he won his battle… and none of you even suspected".

"But… why?" enquired Ike, still held at swordpoint.

"Out of boredom. To keep things fresh and interesting. For entertainment. A multitude of reasons, all just as malicious and twisted as the last. But primarily? To find out… if you would survive".

He then stabbed Ike.

Diddy Kong ascended rapidly into the sky, frantically trying to shake off Captain Falcon's unyielding grip on his foot.

The racer refused to relent, and even began making attempts to punch Diddy, who had no chance of countering due to the concentration and effort required to pilot the jetpack.

Even so, he managed to kick and swing his legs violently. However, this did not jostle Falcon enough to throw off his aim, and he managed to land a right-hook square in Diddy Kong's face.

Diddy shrieked loudly, and began careering back and forth. Falcon did nothing to help Diddy regain control of the jetpack, and continued to pound him while he was vulnerable. However, one stray punch happened to strike the jetpack. The jets instantly spiralled out of control, and Falcon and Diddy plummeted towards the ground far below.

Falcon was resourceful; seeing a meandering jet shooting past him, he kicked it at Diddy as hard as he could. Unfortunately, the jet exploded on contact with his foot. Falcon cried out in agony as intense pain wracked his injured legs. He would never walk again with his lower body so damaged.

Falcon fell helplessly, unable to move his lower body at all. Spotting the other jet rocketing towards him, he ignored the pain and lined himself up for what could end up being the last punch of his life. All the pain flooding through his body was shut out and replaced only with the criteria necessary to succeed. He had to hit it powerfully enough to make it stay on course, but not powerful enough to explode and almost certainly kill him. He punched the jet. It didn't explode.

It shot through the air and smashed into Diddy Kong, exploding and killing him instantly.

Falcon, overcome with relief, grief, and great pain, passed out. He would awaken later in the Waiting Room, fully healed. Speaking of the Waiting Room…

Marth's sword passed clean through Ike's torso, emerging from his back with a coating of blood.

"My question has been answered. It seems you won't survive" said Tabuu, voice laden with malice.

Ike unsheathed his own sword. He wasn't dead yet. "Leave Marth's body now!" yelled Ike.

Marth lunged forwards and yanked his sword out of Ike, causing him to scream in pain. Marth then aimed a slashing strike at Ike's neck. Ike parried it and returned with his own swipe.

The other smashers watched in astonishment as the badly wounded Ike battled both a fellow smasher, and the deadliest, most powerful being in existence.

Despite the possibly fatal injury afflicting him, Ike fought like a whirlwind, ducking, dodging, slashing and stabbing. Before long, however, Ike was clearly fatigued, and in great pain.

Marth pinned Ike against one of the seats, and drew back his sword. Ike used all of his remaining energy to break free and dive to the side. The sword instead stabbed into one of the television screens, sending sparks and shards of glass flying. The screen was reduced to a housing frame for lethal, jagged glass daggers that protruded from the television.

Ike looked up to see it hurtling at his face. He leapt to safety. And heard an ominous thud and a sharp intake of breath.

Ike sank to his knees in horror as Popo stared uncomprehendingly at his blood-soaked parka, and the glass shards that had penetrated his torso and killed him.
