Chapter 10
"So why are we having a picnic in the mountains, when we're only a couple miles from Fuchsia City?" Naruto asked with a blank look as he watched Jessie, James, and even Rhapsody eating while Ayumi and Meowth were stretching.
"A little break won't kill us, and the weather is perfect for a picnic."
"We stayed in the balloon for hours; a meal on the hillside is just what I need."
"It's so pretty here, Daddy. We'll get to Fuchsia City in no time, let's take a break and train here."
"You guys can do that while Meowth and I try to get the feeling in our legs back."
The blond couldn't retort as a loud blast erupted and shook the ground. Fortunately, Rhapsody used Psychic to keep her trainer in the air during the tremor while Jessie and James were having their lunch landing on them. "What was that?"
As Jessie and James sulked over their ruined food, Naruto received his answer when a Diglett poked its head from the ground. "Diglett."
As quickly as it appeared, it went back underground and the sound of heavy trucks could be heard not too far away. The group peered over the ledge to see dozens of construction trucks drive by before suddenly caving into the ground.
"What just happened?" Jessie asked in surprise.
"Those Diglett! They're ruining everything!" A burly looking construction worker wailed as Naruto spotted Ash and the others walking up to him.
"Ah! It's the twerps!" James exclaimed before the magenta haired woman and Meowth muffled him.
"Why don't we go down and see what's going on?" Ayumi asked with the blond nodding.
The two slid down the slope and ran to them while the former Rocket trio waited. "Hey, guys!" Naruto greeted as Rhapsody faded from sight.
Ash and his friends glanced over and grinned, "Naruto and Ayumi! I didn't think I'd see you guys here! Are you heading to the Fuchsia City gym too?"
"Yeah, we were taking a break before heading there, and heard the commotion." The Unova native replied before asking, "What's going on anyway?"
Before they could answer, the construction worker grabbed Naruto by the shoulders and crazily glanced back and forth between him and his silver haired companion, "You two are Pokemon trainers right?! Are you the ones that will help us with the Diglett problem?!"
"Your trainers are here!" A male voice called out with everyone turning to see it was Gary in his car with his personal fan club. "The rest are in the buses."
"Gary?!" Ash exclaimed in surprise.
"If it isn't Ashy-boy, the loser of Pallet!" The brunette sneered.
While Brock was trying and failing to flirt with the girls, who just thought he was man, Naruto stepped between the two rivals. "Come on, let's not fight."
"Naruto's right." Ayumi agreed.
Gary's attention was brought on her, "Hey! You're the one with that rare Pokemon in that swimsuit contest right?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you tell me about it? I've never seen one like it before; do you have it with you?"
"Sure, I suppose. It was called a Milotic, they are found in the Hoenn Region, and it's known as the Tender Pokemon. It's a water type," Misty perked that, "Naruto has one too, but my Milotic pair are back home."
Gary seemed to want to know more, but was interrupted by the construction worker, "Forget about your nonsense! You came for important matters! Trainers follow me!"
The construction worker gathered all the trainers in an empty lot as he gave a speech of the "greatest threat, and bug Pokemon, Diglett" with Gary correcting him, and the non-local trainers somewhat impressed with his knowledge in Pokemon. Jessie and James were also there, but had blend in with the crowd.
A Diglett that seemed curious popped up from the ground as the construction worker yelled, "There they are! Get rid of them!"
Gary was first to go, but failed multiple times as his Pokemon refused to come out, and the Diglett politely returned his Poke-balls to him every time. The other trainers tried and failed with other Diglett emerging to do the same.
"I'll give it a try, but I'm not battling. Eevee can you come out?" Ayumi suggested as she called out her normal type.
Surprisingly, Eevee emerged from his Poke-ball with a curious call and tilted his head. Naruto hummed in thought at that, "So if we don't fight the Diglett, the Pokemon will come out. What would that mean, Rhapsody?"
"It means that guy is the only thing that's wrong!" The Meloetta exclaimed, "He wants to tear down the habitat and the Diglett are doing their best to stop it. They don't want to hurt anyone though."
The blond immediately understood, "I see, then we should get Jessie and James and get out of here."
The silverette nodded as she carried her Eevee in her arms and glanced to the trainers that were muttering and reentering the bus to leave, "It seems the others are doing the same."
"While that guy is playing a weird version of whack-a-mole…" Naruto sweat dropped with Rhapsody and Ayumi following suit as well. "Anyway, let's just find Jessie and James and go."
After a while the two had found the former Rocket trio in the forest, cheering as Jessie and James hugged what looked to be an Arbok and Weezing respectively. Meowth noticed Naruto and Ayumi's return as he went to take his place on his trainer's shoulder as he explained, "I guess it was time for Ekans and Koffing to evolve. These two have been like that since then."
The blond smiled, completely understanding the joy, "Well they've come a long way, so it's natural." Rhapsody gave a cheer as she did a spin of celebration.
"Congrats you guys." The silverette grinned as she recalled her Eevee.
Jessie spun around with her Arbok as she declared, "It's settled! Before we leave, we must celebrate!"
"That guy wanting to get rid of the Diglett said there was a hot spring nearby. What could be better?" James agreed as he suggested the idea.
Meowth and Ayumi weren't far off on being for the celebration as Rhapsody chimed as she waved her hands. Naruto knew when he was outvoted, "Well, since there's a reason to celebrate, I guess it couldn't hurt. Ayumi and I will cook something up too."
Not long after, they reached the hot spring without any trouble and set up a small table with a portable stove and dishes set out while the group let out their Pokemon to get reacquainted with their newly evolved friends after their trainers had changed into their swimsuits.
"Ah, this is great." Jessie sighed as she enjoyed the warmth of the hot spring as her Smoochum agreed as she drifted along in her swim ring.
"James, could you pass me the Lum Berry, and Ayumi the Rawst Berry?" Naruto asked as he went back and forth from stirring his pot and chopping herbs.
The lavender haired man did as asked as his Vulpix leapt to where the silverette was at the table with the blue berry gently held in her mouth before Ayumi accepted it and thanked the fire type. "What are you two making anyway?"
The blond responded after he cut up the berry and put it into his pot and tasting after a few stirs, "I'm making a stew for everyone, and Ayumi is making a cold fruit dessert with her Empoleon's Ice Beam."
James turned to where the Sinnoh native was tossing, from what he could remember from his own experience, soft and fragile berries to her Empoleon, who was expertly hitting and freezing each one with his Ice Beam and catching them to give back to his trainer.
Ayumi grinned, "I've learned that freezing the softer fruits not only makes it easier to cut them, they gain a crispness to them too. Of course adding a harder fruit into the mix is good too, depending on what berries you add; it's delicious and nutritious for people and Pokemon alike."
"We have great cooks in our group that we never have to worry about food problems ever again!" Jessie stretched as she watched Meowth start doing something with her egg, "What are you doing, Meowth?"
"Just giving your egg a little warm shining," The normal type responded, "It looked cold, sitting there wrapped in your clothes."
"Food's ready!" Naruto called as he and his Meloetta started pouring equal portions into everyone's bowls as Ayumi gave everyone a small bowl of the frozen berry dessert with the trainers and some of the Pokemon sitting with their feet dipped in the hot spring. "Dig in, we have plenty!"
Just before anyone could enjoy their meal, they heard the familiar voice of a boy with a Pikachu, "I think the hot spring's this way, and something smells good too!"
The group that was already there froze as Ash and his group appeared, clad in their swimsuits from past the bushes. The two groups just stared in awkward silence before Naruto chuckled nervously as he scratched the back of his head, "Uh, you want to join? We have plenty of food for you guys too."
The Pallet native snapped out of it at the mention of food, "Boy would I!"
Misty hit him upside the head, "Don't be rude, Ash. We probably interrupted them."
"Thanks for the offer, but we'll leave if we're a bother." Brock added as he noticed two people from the other group that he didn't recognize giving them dirty looks before quickly turning and innocently eating.
The blond laughed as Rhapsody handed the three and Pikachu a bowl, "It's not a problem; we were just celebrating our friends' Ekans and Koffing evolving at the same time before we headed off."
Misty and Brock nodded as they sat down along with the others as they watched their youngest friend scarf down on his food along with his electric type. The red head tasting a spoonful, her eyes widened at the combinations of flavors she tasted, "This is delicious! Who made it?"
The Unova native waved his hand, "That would be me, and thank you for the praise. Although, I have to say this can't top my mom's ramen."
"It's just as good as Brock's cooking!" Ash praise garbled through his full mouth as Pikachu agreed with swollen cheeks.
"I wouldn't say my cooking's that great. I'm wondering though, are those your friends, and Pokemon? I haven't seen some of them before."
Jessie and James seemed to choke, but they were thankful that those three were fairly dense, the magenta haired woman took the lead, "I'm… Jessica and this is Jake! There's my Arbok, Smoochum, Wigglytuff, and Lickitung. Ayumi's Meowth over there is taking care of my egg."
James took the hint at the alias and nodded, "Yeah, what she said! Those are my charming Weezing, Weepinbell, Magikarp, Chingling, and Vulpix."
The albino breeder added, "I guess I'll introduce my Pokemon to you guys as well. There's Empoleon, Alakazam, Skarmory, Houndoom, Meowth, and Eevee."
The blue eyed trainer smiled, "I suppose it's my turn. That's Rhapsody, my Meloetta, Haru, my Umbreon, Gible, Bagon, Larvitar, and Togepi."
Ash stared at all the Pokemon in awe, "They're all so cool! I'd love to show you guys my Pokemon, but they won't come out for some reason." He paused as he realized something, "Wait, how are your Pokemon out of their Poke-ball!?"
Naruto just replied, "It's simple, we don't want to fight the Diglett. After all they don't mean us any harm."
While he was saying that, his silver haired companion felt the ground beside her hand shake as she saw a Diglett emerge and staring at the bowl of berries with wanting eyes. "Here you go." Ayumi said as she placed it carefully on the Mole Pokemon's head before it called out its name in thanks and returned to its hole.
Immediately after that, Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu ran off to get changed before going after the Diglett with a hasty goodbye. The former Rocket Trio blinked before getting up to get seconds before heading off to Fuchsia City before it got too late.
A Few Days Later
Shortly after arriving in Fuchsia City, the group did their rotation training as they usually did before gym battles, having Naruto's Squirtle, Magnemite, Psyduck, "Meowri"-much to Meowth's sadness, and Houndour evolved. James's Magikarp evolved as well, much to both trainer and Pokemon happiness as they both cried tears of joy. Ayumi's Squirtle, Shinx, Hoothoot also evolved, while the two foreign trainers caught pairs of Wurmple, Clamperl, a Plusle and Minun, as the blond and silverette caught a Ledyba and Shinx, and Spinarak respectively. Jessie and James joined in getting their own Clamperl as well when they learned about their capability of evolving into either a Gorebyss or a Huntail.
As the four were heading to the Ninja Mansion, which was also the gym, The Unova native couldn't help but be excited as they got closer and Rhapsody sang happily as she finally had a chance to battle. "We'll be up against Koga, who uses poison types, and it'll be a two-on-two." Ayumi re-informed, "Although getting to him in a ninja mansion won't be easy."
"We'll be fine, Ayumi; we even made a sturdy bridge on the way." Naruto grinned.
"Well you two better win; especially from all that practice with us." Jessie commented with a flip of her hair.
"I just hope we don't fall into any traps." James muttered.
"Well, looks like we're here!" The blond cheerfully exclaimed before Rhapsody became invisible and the four went inside.
The Sinnoh native couldn't really agree as she warily glanced around for any traps to suddenly appear, and just to be sure, had her Alakazam out as he levitated along with the group with his trainer on his back. "Call me paranoid, but I think we're being watched."
Naruto glanced back to his red eyed companion, "You could be right, but this is a ninja training camp, other than it being a gym. As far as we know, we could've fallen into a trap now. By the way, watch your step, James."
Before the lavender haired man could ask; he was shocked and fell over with a thud as Jessie called out in surprise and helped him up.
"There are Voltorb hidden about under the floorboards." The Unova native stated as he kept going in a strange way.
Along the halls, it was figured out to Jessie and James that Naruto was walking the trap-free ways, and thought it best to imitate; especially when one of the walls collapsed and the two nearly had a tragic dive into the valley below, if it weren't for Alakazam's help.
"How do you know so much about ninjas, Naruto?" Ayumi asked curiously from her psychic type's back.
The blue eyed trainer chuckled, "Well my dad didn't get the nickname Stealth Striker for nothing. His side of the family are actually the descendants of ninja."
That made the three gape, "Really?!"
"Yeah, but I can't really do too much. I can do this though." Naruto had his fingers form a cross as he yelled, "Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
With a puff of smoke another Uzumaki-Namikaze appeared as the two Naruto stood side by side with a grin as the three trainers gapes before the clone disappeared.
"W-was that like Double Team or something?" The silverette wondered as she tried to calm herself from that surprise.
"You could say that, but it's a family secret." The Unova native smirked with a wink, "That's why being here really pumps me up; I can test my skills, and Rhapsody gets to battle too."
Ayumi just stared in awe before shaking her head, "I knew it was a good choice in following you."
In what felt like an hour and Meowth using Protect to deflect shuriken had passed, they'd reached an entrance to a room with a plaque of the Soul Badge on the door.
The foreign duo glanced at each other to see who would go first, before the albino breeder gave the whiskered blond the honors.
"Koga, I, Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze from Undella Town, challenge you to a match for the Soul Badge!"
"I, Ayumi Devon from Jubilife City, challenge you as well!" The silverette declared, following the Unova native's lead.
The sliding door opened to reveal an empty room before there was a burst of smoke. When it cleared, there stood a man dressed in ninja garb as he held his hand in a position as though he was about to do a technique. "I congratulate you on achieving the task of reaching me, Koga, ninja master of this dojo. Now you are to battle me in two-on-two battle to win a Soul Badge." The gym leader stated as he took out a scroll and unraveled it to show two Soul Badges pinned to it. "Who will battle me first?"
Naruto stepped forward as stopped at the far end of the room and Rhapsody appeared, ready to fight. "I will."
"Very well." Koga said as he back flipped gracefully to the other end of the room and let out his first Pokemon, a Venonat. "Begin with Stun Spore!"
"Send it back and surround Venonat with it with Psychic!"
The Meloetta did as she was told as her eyes glowed blue as she controlled the paralyzing powder to form into a dome around the bug/poison type.
The poison specialist inwardly gritted his teeth at that; he hadn't expected the boy to pull such tactic. He didn't want to risk-what he knew would be-guaranteed paralysis.
"Now quickly use a Dazzling Energy Ball, followed by Round and an Ice Punch!"
The heavily detailed command caught Koga by surprise; almost doubting what he'd heard the blond call out and not sure if the mysterious Pokemon could even do what was demanded.
Rhapsody did as she told, flipping back slightly as she formed two Energy Balls in her hands as she kept the Stun Spore dome and concentrated as she enveloped the grass type attack with the bright light of her newest move, Dazzling Gleam. The fairy type move wasn't easy to learn, but with the help of Mao and Hoshi, who'd learned it easily on their own, she was able to master it well enough for combination moves.
Flinging the combination attack as the Meloetta made the paralyzing dome constrict on itself as they collided with an explosion, making everyone cover themselves to keep from getting themselves paralyzed.
As the smoke cleared away, revealing a struggling to stand Venonat that was quickly punched by Rhapsody as she appeared to make the finishing blow.
Koga scowled as his Pokemon had definitely fainted when it had crashed into the wall from the barrage of attacks. At that moment, he remembered the Unova native's full name, "So Minato Namikaze had a son, just as I, a daughter. My old friend, you've raised him well." He thought as he carefully concealed a smirk.
Recalling his downed Pokemon, the poison type specialist watched as Naruto cheered with Rhapsody, before getting ready as he called out, "You are Minato's son, aren't you?"
"I am; did you know dad?"
Koga gave a small smirk, "He was an old colleague in Johto."
The blond thought for a bit before he remembered, "Oh I remember now! Dad talked about a rival he had that was a ninja, he was a great trainer, and wanted him to join him as an Elite Four member, but was turned down, no matter how many times dad asked. Would that be you?"
"Indeed, you do not mind if I have my last Pokemon being one of Johto in this round?"
Naruto considered his options, and nodded, "Sure." Narrowing his choices, he had a good idea of what it could be.
The gym leader nodded his thanks as he called out his last Pokemon. "Go, Crobat!"
"What's that Pokemon?" Jessie asked as she couldn't recognize that Pokemon that was on the field.
Ayumi was the one to answer, "That's Crobat. It's the evolved form of Golbat; gaining another pair of wings lets it fly for a longer duration and with enough speed can sneak up behind someone without being detected."
"Naruto will have to be very careful then." James stated as he shivered as he thought of what a Crobat could do if one snuck up on him.
The blond showed a calm exterior as he went over the high chance of speed based attacks, and waved for Rhapsody to come back to him, "Sorry Rhapsody, but let's give Magneton a turn."
The Meloetta pouted, but nodded before she became invisible and her trainer called out his alternate Pokemon.
The Magnet Pokemon appeared with a drone of its name as it prepared for battle. Koga contained a frown, his combination of poisoning and attacking would be useless against a steel type. Nevertheless, he'd still win in speed. "Crobat, begin with Agility and follow with Wing Attack."
The four winged bat instantly flew out of sight, striking Magneton into the ground as Naruto retaliated, "Magneton, Shock Wave!"
The electric attack easily hit its mark, but wasn't enough to do damage, "Follow up with a Shocking Magnet Bomb!" The blond quickly called as he could before Koga could strike back.
"Magneton." The steel/electric type called as it had done what it had trained to do with that command as it spun at a high speed launching Magnet Bombs it all directions, each encased in Shock Wave.
"Evade with Agility!" Koga exclaimed but even with the four-winged bat following the command, it couldn't evade the continuous barrage of attacks as the group on the sidelines were protected by Meowth from the stray orbs.
Eventually, it was struck and sent crashing into the ground as more Shock Wave coated Magnet Bombs struck Crobat as it gave a whimper of its name in a dizzy faint, "C-Cro…"
The gym leader shut his eyes in defeat as he recalled his fallen and giving Naruto a bow, "You are what I expect of my old friend's son. Your mother and father must be proud."
The blond beamed as he petted his Magneton before recalling it, "Thanks, I really appreciate hearing that."
Ayumi stepped forward to at Naruto's side to get ready for her turn as she said, "Congrats, Naruto. Rhapsody and Magneton looked great."
"Thanks, Ayumi. Show him what you can do."
"I will." The silverette smirked before facing Koga as they both held a Poke-ball in their hand.
"As you are aware of the rules, there is no need to repeat." The poison type specialist stated, "Are you ready, Ayumi Devon?"
"Yes."
"Very well. Go Weezing!"
"Go, Skarmory!"
The two Pokemon emerged and glared at each other, ready to pull a strike.
The silverette was the first to call out, "Skarmory, Steel Aerial Ace!"
"Ska~!" The steel/flying type cawed as she flew up to the highest corner of the room before swooping down in a spiraling burst of light, colliding with the Poison type and sending it to the ground unconscious in an instant.
Naruto was impressed by his travelling companion's ever swift victory, "I can't say I'm surprised that her Skarmory won so fast. Especially against a Weezing."
James shuddered, "My poor Weezing…"
"Impressive, Ayumi." Koga praised, "You and Naruto are impeccable trainers, but this isn't over yet. Go Muk!"
Everyone except Koga in the room groaned in disgust as the Sludge Pokemon's pungent odor filled the room. "Ugh… That was great, Skarmory. Take a quick break, and let Empoleon have a turn." The silverette praised as she covered her nose and recalled her steel/flying type to release her Emperor Pokemon.
"Okay Empoleon, make this quick with a Flashing Hydro Pump!" Ayumi commanded without missing a beat as she ignored the stench.
The Sinnoh starter did as he was ordered as he fired a Hydro Pump that was blinding from the Flash Cannon that was within the water.
The power of the combination again sent Muk down as quickly as the first round went.
Koga hadn't expected the silverette to be the power type of trainer, but her larger than average Pokemon showed her training; it complimented Naruto's battling style, in a way. The silverette paving the route for the blond to finish the battle. Calling back his fainted Pokemon, Koga vanished before reappearing between the two younger trainers, leaving the scrolls in their hands. "You both have shown your strength in defeating me. May you remember this battle with pride and humility." The poison type gym leader wisely spoke as he gave a quarter of a bow with the duo returning it.
"Thank you Koga."
Two Days Later
"I didn't expect to do this before leaving Fuchsia City." Ayumi commented as she groomed her Pokemon.
"I'm with you, Ayumi. Iruka and Kazuki really told us about participating in that race on short notice." Naruto agreed as he groomed his own Pokemon as well.
The duo's caretakers had called them the day before, explaining about a Pokemon race in two days' time for Pokemon ranch owners, and had asked them to take part in their place as they would be representing their own ranches, even if it wasn't located in Kanto.
The rules were that the Pokemon the contestants rode on were not to fly or go underground on terms of disqualification. It was to be similar to a triathlon, so doing either would be rather unfair. The prize was also becoming an honorary member of the Larami Clan, the best breeding ranch in Kanto; although Naruto and Ayumi weren't really interested in the prize, they just wanted to see how far they've come so far with their Pokemon.
"I guess I'll go with Nidoking. I'm sure he can handle anything." The silverette stated with said Pokemon roaring with pride.
The blonde thought it over before deciding, "Umi should do okay." Said Pokemon bellowed with anticipation.
"She's a great Pokemon, but people will be scared of a red Gyrados." The albino breeder mentioned jokingly.
"And they won't be with a giant Nidoking?" The whiskered blond retorted with just as much humor.
The Sinnoh native laughed, "You have a point."
The Unova native joined in as he held out a hand, "Best of luck to the both of us."
"Yeah." Ayumi agreed as they shook hands.
Day Of Race
As the two took their places as they were on their Pokemon's head and back respectively before they were given the start, they spotted Ash and his friends on a Ponyta, Starmie, Onix, and Pikachu riding on a Squirtle.
The trainer from Kanto seemed the most surprised out of the group when they noticed them, "Is that you, Naruto and Ayumi?! I didn't know you would be in this race too!"
Misty was obviously unnerved by Naruto's red scaled Gyrados, just focused on the blond and not looking down. The blond wasn't kidding when he had said that his Magikarp would become strong when they first met. "Are you two representing for someone as well?"
"Oh no, we're actually representing our own ranches." Naruto replied, "Our caretakers back home asked us to do this while we were around, so we thought it would be fun."
"I didn't expect the two of you to be wealthy." Brock commented, "Your Pokemon are in fantastic shape. Your Nidoking is also larger than the last time I saw it, Ayumi."
"Thanks Brock, your Onix is looking good too." The silverette complimented.
The two groups quickly took their places when the announcer welcomed the race and waited for the signal light to turn green.
As soon as it did, every Pokemon dashed ahead with a boy with a Dodrio made the quick lead out of the stadium with Nidoking and Umi right behind him as the other competitors were a small distance away, and Pikachu and Squirtle literally in the dust. "It looks like Dario and Dodrio have pulled away from the pack! But it looks like newcomers Naruto and Ayumi with their fierce and large Gyrados and Nidoking are keeping up without a sweat!"
It wasn't long before two competitors with a Nidorina and Tauros were eliminated when their Pokemon began fighting with each other.
The uphill endurance climb portion of the race was a simple climb for Pokemon that was indigenous to the mountains as Nidoking and Dodrio were neck and neck with Umi slithering behind them as Ash was at the same pace as a racer with a Raticate. Squirtle was proving to be the Tiny Turtle Pokemon it was as Pikachu pushed it up from behind. "It looks like Dario, Ayumi, and Naruto are keeping their places in the lead! But slow and steady may not be enough to with this race for Pikachu and Squirtle!"
Umi and Dodrio were in the lead with Nidoking behind them as they ran and slithered down the hill, but their lead was taken quickly when a boy with his Electrode rolling down rapidly from its round shape. However it didn't last long as they fell into a pitfall trap, letting the three gain the lead once again. Unfortunately for Ash and Ponyta, Electrode lived up to its name and exploded as he was passing over, knocking out the trainer from Pallet and two other racers until Pikachu shocked him and Ponyta awake.
Making their way to the water portion of the course with the Pokemon needing to leap from one stone to the next, Dodrio took the lead with a trainer on his Rhyhorn unfortunately sinking due to the weight, and Brock and Onix dropped out. Nidoking, Umi, Squirtle, and Starmie took to the water, with the red Gyrados streaking past the three headed Pokemon easily as the male Poison Pin Pokemon swam right behind her. Ponyta was making good speed as it galloped along the stones. "Will you look at that! Gyrados and Nidoking have taken the lead! They're practically gliding through the water! It just shows that they're extremely well trained Pokemon!"
The break portion where the Pokemon had to continue after eating an entire bowl of food they'd chosen was a bit of a hassle as Umi and Nidoking clearly preferred their trainer's own food prepared for them, eating at a pace that was considerably slower than how they usually did as Naruto and Ayumi encouraged them with how great they were doing and that they'll receive treats afterwards. Dodrio, however, was arguing amongst its heads on which bowl it wanted, Umi and Nidoking using it to their advantage as they finished eating and continued on. "Gyrados and Nidoking are already done with their while Dodrio is fighting! It looks like Dario has just lost the lead! He's really losing time as the other racers are making a scene!"
As Naruto and Ayumi were making way passed the sight and heading back to the stadium, when they heard "Team Rocket", instantly knew it was Jessie and James, up to one of their schemes. With a glance at each other, they agreed that would be dealt with later. They had a race, and they weren't going to stop on the last leg of the race. At the stomping, they could tell Dodrio was behind Umi's tail, with Ponyta darting right behind. "It looks like this has become a four Pokemon race, with Gyrados taking the lead, Nidoking charging second, Dodrio a few feet away, and lastly Ponyta! With a flat run to the finish line, it's anyone's game!"
Dario was surprised with Ash and Ponyta catching up and the two being closer, but he had Dodrio's head pecking at Ponyta and the red Gyrados, making the two slow down slightly as Naruto looked back as the cheating racer was rapidly catching up with a scowl, "How dare you do that to Umi!"
"Your red water snake won't beat me and my Dodrio! And neither will a little girl with an oversized Nidoking!"
Both trainers grit their teeth as they gave comforting pats to their Pokemon before seeing out of the corner of their eye, Ash on a newly evolved Rapidash as they darted. The four were on completely equal ground now, winning from a horn snout, or a beak. At the very last second the four went through as cheers tore through the crowds. "This is incredible! This has never happened before! We had a three-way tie for first place between Ash and Rapidash, Naruto and his Gyrados, and Ayumi and her Nidoking! This has been an amazing Pokemon race!" The three victors didn't mind the tie as they praised the Pokemon for their hard work.
"That was great, Rapidash!"
"You were incredible, Umi!"
"You're the best, Nidoking!"
"You brats, you interfered with me!" Dario yelled at the three, who turned back with a frown.
"You're the one that attacked us." Ash retorted.
"Your cheating only meant that you doubted how you trained your Dodrio." Naruto added with Ayumi nodding.
The cheater didn't take that remark well as he ordered his Pokemon to charge, but was sent flying from a hoof and frozen with Hydro Pump and Ice Beam.
The three Pokemon took their places side by side as their trainers stood beside them for the cheering audience to see as Ash carried the flag.
Later
"I knew I shouldn't have count on you! Team Rocket is the worst!" Dario yelled at the former Team Rocket trio that were tied and hanging from a tree.
Jessie just glanced to the side as she quietly muttered, "We aren't even members, we quit." Before saying out loud, "We'll just have to plan better next year."
"Not to mention get better riding clothes."
"And give that smelly bird a bath!"
The three were quickly pecked by the Dodrio, only stopping when they heard a voice, "Well, what do we have here?"
The group froze as the cheating racer turned around to see Naruto, Ayumi and her Alakazam as the two younger trainers had a very fake smile.
"I knew you two had something to do with this." The blond stated happily, "You're not getting out of unscathed along with him."
"Meowth, expect no treats and extra training." The silverette grinned with the psychic type staring at him with pity.
"Aaahhh!"
A/N: And that's chapter 10! I've finally reached double digits! I hope no one minds that I added the little bit with Naruto having slightly watered down ninja ancestry, I thought I just had to add one of his signature moves somewhere in the story. And a way to explain how he could do it.
For those that may be wondering why I didn't have Naruto and Ayumi just using their own Ponyta in the race; I thought it would be boring to see three different Ponyta in one race. Also, as good as they are at training their Pokémon, I don't think they would've done as well as Umi and Nidoking with the short notice they got from Iruka and Kazuki.
With Ash and his group not recognizing Jessie and James in their sometimes fairly bad disguises, I will never know, but to them, they are Jessica and Jake. I will also be sticking with that alias for Jessie when she participates in contests.

As a side note, I'm considering the Naruto and Ayumi being able to use Mega Stones-with their own Mega Stones they'll wear and all that- probably after the Indigo League.
