CHAPTER 10 - SIBLING RIVALRY

Abby and I watched intensely as the two all powerful brothers faced off. The weather continued to mirror the sheer hostility taking place and I couldn't help but get drawn into it. Abby still held my hand tight and her grip didn't seem to be loosening as a loud crack of thunder boomed over head.

"We need to get closer Abby, we need to see what's going on" I told her.

Abby's expression was full of different emotions, she seemed scared yet in control at the same time. I think she understood the gravity of the situation I mean if Sebastian lost and was killed that would leave nothing in the way of Constantine and us.

Abby nodded in agreement and we slowly moved towards the front door.

"We don't step outside, not one step" Abby ordered.

"Understood" I simply replied.

As we approached the doorway Sebastian held up his hand to us instructing the two of us to stay inside the house. We both nodded back and Sebastian turned to face his brother.

"I never thought we'd end up here" Sebastian stated calmly towards Constantine.

"You mean all of those years ago when the two of us decided to take on the world?" Constantine replied.

Sebastian nodded slowly and Constantine gave him a shy smile before lowering his head.

"I never thought you of all people would turn against me" Constantine stated.

"You gave me no choice brother, I do now what I must" Sebastian told him.

The two vampire brothers stood silent for a moment staring at one another as the rain soaked the pair of them then Constantine's gaze turned and fell on me and Abby.

"It seems I have underestimated you two, not only did you defeat Azrael but it seems you've gained a powerful ally in Sebastian, I do believe he cares for the two of you….how sweet" Constantine told us with a slight snarl.

Abby and I said nothing and Sebastian's gaze never left Constantine.

"The fate of Abby and Owen is nothing to do with me, believe me my only thought was of your imminent demise" Sebastian smirked in response.

Constantine's stance changed when Sebastian said that and he became a lot more agitated.

"Just know this brother once I've dealt with you nothing will stop me tearing them two apart" Constantine announced aloud.

Sebastian stepped forward and slowly approached Constantine who in turn started to step sideways and soon the brothers were encircling one another.

Abby turned to look at me and grabbed my shoulders.

"Owen if the worst happens I want you to run don't wait for me just run" Abby whispered.

"Never, I'll never leave you" I argued back.

Just then Both Sebastian and Constantine launched themselves at each other and in a blurry mess of speed and dust the two brothers began to fight. It was strange to behold, the noises they made were more like wild animals then people, it was terrifying to watch.

I couldn't tell who was winning it was all happening so fast then without warning a loud yell was heard and to our horror we saw that Constantine had broken one of Sebastian's legs. Sebastian was crouched over on one of his knees in pain as Constantine grabbed what seemed to be a large blade of some kind from inside his long coat. Constantine manoeuvred quickly to stand behind the injured Sebastian and as he grabbed his brother from behind he thrust the blade into his back making Sebastian cry out in pain. Sebastian fell to his knees and just before he fell to the fall he glanced over to Abby and me and I noticed a look of sorrow spread across his face, finally Sebastian fell to the fall motionless.

Abby let go of my hand and I turned to look at her.

"What are you doing?" I asked her.

"I told you once before I would never let anyone hurt you Owen" Abby quietly told me.

I shook my head aggressively I knew what she had in mind, she was going to sacrifice herself in order to give me a chance to run, well stuff that for a plan.

"Owen please!" Begged Abby with tears in her eyes.

By now I too had tears streaming down my face but never in a million years would I agree to this. Again I shook my head.

"Never!" I repeated again.

Constantine slowly approached the front porch.

"Don't worry your hero isn't quite dead yet, I need him alive, I need my follower's to see me defeat him, to see me end the mighty Sebastian once and for all. However you two and not so important, I'm going to take great pleasure finishing you off quickly" Constantine informed us with a sinister expression.

As Constantine's each step brought him closer to us my greatest fear was Abby doing something stupid so I decided to act on impulse and I did what I had to do. As quick as anything and with no warning I barged Abby as hard as I could into a cabinet against the wall which smashed to pieces as Abby crashed into it knocking her unconscious. She wouldn't be out for long but it gave me the time I needed to act. I spun round and faced Constantine who seemed a little shocked at my actions but I didn't care this was it I would die fighting for Abby, maybe if I was lucky I could at least injure Constantine and give Abby a chance to run. Just as I was about to jump for Constantine a loud gun shot was fired. Everything seemed to pause and I watched as I saw Constantine s expression change. He looked as if something had startled him and slowly he fell to his knees, he turned and looked over his shoulder to see what had happened it was then I saw an old friend standing there holding a shotgun it was Paul. He was the last person I expected to see and I hoped Cat wasn't here also I didn't need them both getting hurt.

Not only was Paul holding a shotgun in one arm but in the other he was holding an injured Sebastian in the other. Sebastian was conscious now and holding the blade Constantine had thrust in his back. As Constantine took the scene in I saw the damage to his back from where Paul had shot him. Constantine didn't seem to show any pain however but as he tried to get to his feet Sebastian with one final effort launched himself towards Constantine thrusting the blade this time into Constantine's back, again Constantine didn't yell out or show any serious signs of pain but he was clearly paralysed by what had happened.

"Now Owen finish him" Sebastian ordered clearly struggling.

I didn't hesitate I ran to Constantine who was still on his knees and as I got to him I thrust my fist into his chest and tore out what I hoped was his heart just as id seen Sebastian do before. I didn't look to see what was in my now blood soaked hand but I threw it to the floor and as I did Constantine had one final thing to say.

"Beaten by a boy"

With that Constantine fell to the floor and I hoped rather than expected it to all be over. I ran over to Paul and gave him a huge hug.

"What the hell are you doing her?" I asked him slightly annoyed yet extremely grateful.

"Sebastian, he said I needed to be another piece on the chess board, I didn't argue with him" Paul answered.

I turned to face Sebastian who was knelt beside the lifeless body of his brother.

I didn't say anything to him I didn't want to interrupt his obvious grief. I gazed into the house and saw Abby getting to her feet so I sprinted inside and helped her.

"You complete ass Owen, how could you do that?" Abby moaned.

I just shrugged my shoulders at her as Abby then jumped at me and threw her arms around me.

"I love you so much" She told me.

"I love you more" I told her.

We walked outside hand in hand and Abby ran over and hugged Paul. Sebastian got to his feet still obviously in a lot of pain and turned to face me, he had tears in his eyes.

"He may have done terrible things but he was still my brother, I just hope one day I can forgive myself for what I did" Sebastian stated quietly.

"You saved Abby and me and for that I cant thank you enough" I told him.

Sebastian held out his hand and as I shook it he pulled me in and whispered something to me.

"Have a good life…both of you"

I nodded with a smile and Sebastian picked up his brothers body and after saying goodbye to Abby and Paul he disappeared into the night.

"I hope he finds somewhere quick because the sun will be up shortly" Abby announced.

"I'm sure he has it all planned out, he's Sebastian after all" I chuckled.
