Rei paled as Amu, more excited than usual, went to find her to talk about Ikiro.
"He asked me out again. He said he wanted to have me as his fiancee. You're alright with that, right? And you can go live your life with Ikuto! How's that?" Amu realized she'd been babbling and blushed. "Sorry. Just so excited. Well you know. It's not every day you get to meet your first crush after so many years."
"Uh. Well... that is... I don't think... Uh..." Rei stumbled on the words. It was hard saying this without hurting Amu.
And she was eyeing her so expectantly she wanted to kill herself for breaking her heart.
"You don't deserve that kind of guy." There. She finally said it. What now?
Amu was quiet for a moment.
"Rei. Are you perhaps... jealous?"
She made so much effort, and this was the answer?
"No!" Rei looked at her, surprised. "No no no. You've mistaken. What I mean is-"
"Rei, I thought you like Ikuto."
"I do, well, I still do, but the point is that cheater Ikiro-"
"Don't do this, okay?"
"HE ALMOST RAPED ME!"
"Amu?"
Amu kept walking. Tears. No tears. It never came.
"Amu, what's this?" Ikiro grabbed hold of her from behind.
"You traitor."
"What? I don't understand, I-"
"You came here to humiliate me?" Amu's eyes were glistening. "Trying to rape my friend? While trying to ask me out? Is this all a lie? Did you never like me? Is it true that you really..." Amu's lips guivered. "Only played with my emotions?"
Ikiro tensed and sighed. "Look, that friend of yours obviously wanted you gone for good. You'd listen to her?"
"DON'T YOU DARE BADMOUTH MY FRIEND!" The tears. Please don't let them come. Please.
Ikiro froze. Then he laughed. "This isn't like you, my love." He reached out to stroke her cheek.
But someone slapped his hand away and wrapped his arms around Amu.
"She's mine," a voice growled. Amu looked up.
Ikuto?
Ikuto, without another word, spun her around and let her bury her face into him.
"You. Get away from her"
"Who gives you the authority to do that?" Ikiro shot back. His eyes were red with anger.
Ikuto seemed to tense around Amu.
"I do."
The voice came from Amu's mouth.
The dart struck the middle.
"I will kill them," Ikiro snarled, and his servants around him jumped. Their master often threw bad tempers at them. This was by far the worse of all. "If I don't get Amu's heart, I swear I'll make them regret what they've done to upset me."
