Alex rolled her eyes. She was standing outside the pack house, watching several of others argue about who was driving.
Sighing, she grabbed one of the car keys and climbed into a jeep. Emma and Chloe followed her as did Mike and Kat.
They strapped themselves in and then she beeped the horn, causing everyone to jump.
She waved a finger at them and then took off.
She was looking forward to dinner with the Cullens. She needed a break from the meetings, and the Alphas, and just wolves in general.
The meetings after the first meeting were just as long and boring. There hadn't been a threat in years so they had to talk about imprints, money, land, and responsibilities.
By the end of the week, she was ready to tear her hair out.
The elders knew how to push her buttons and seemed to bring up every mistake she ever made.
And with Knight in the room, it was worse since many comments were about her imprint and not many knew he was it.
Emma, Chloe, and Kat were talking. None of them could turn into werewolves, quickly. They possessed a small gene so small; they would only be able to shift if there was major trouble.
Mike sat next to her. As her beta, he was in tuned with her and knew she was looking forward to this. The meetings were particularly harsh this time. It didn't matter she had been Alpha since she was 15 and was almost reaching five years, she still had to prove herself.
Alex tuned out the girls chatter and instead thought of her kiss with Knight.
She had no idea what possessed her to kiss him.
She wasn't drunk or sick or dying.
When she kissed him, she felt happy again. Complete. But it was just the imprint. They would have been done if it weren't for the imprint.
Kissing him made her smile; it was for her own benefit and no one else.
When she fell and he caught her, it was like the first time they met.
When she kissed him, it was like the first time she kissed him. It didn't matter he didn't respond. She didn't care.
It made it easier for her to walk away.
Alex shook her head. She shouldn't be thinking about that. She was an Alpha. And Alphas were strong. They didn't let old flames get to them.
She turned up the radio and laughed as the girls began singing. Mike rolled his eyes.
They passes a sign that read WELCOME TO FORKS.
Alex smiled. Let the fun begin.
She pulled into the Cullens driveway and Emma whistled.
"Wow! This place is beautiful."
They got out of the car and waited for everyone else to do the same.
Jasper and his family walked out.
Jasper smiled at them.
Edward was listening to Emmett's thought.
I'm going to pick Alex up and spin her around. She's so tiny!
Alex was surprised to see the smile on his face that she didn't notice Emmett sneaking up behind her.
She screamed as Emmett grabbed her and threw her over his shoulder. He took off running, and her screams became laughs.
Jasper and his family laughed.
The wolves just watched as Alex acted like a teenager.
Emmett placed her on her feet and she hugged the Cullens.
Esme began talking.
"We made hot dogs, burgers, salad, pasta, soup, cake, chicken,…"
Alex laughed.
"Esme. It's fine. Sounds good. Besides, we are wolves, we ate anything. Don't worry. Just worry that you might run out of food."
Esme laughed and nodded.
Alex turned to look at her fellow wolves and jerked her head toward the house.
All the wolves stuck close together and introduced themselves.
After that, they just stood there awkwardly.
"So, baseball anyone?"
Alice stood on her toes looking at them wolves.
Alex grinned.
"Baseball sounds fun, but soccer more of our speed."
The wolves nodded in agreement.
Jasper ran to the house and came back with a soccer ball.
Alex took it and grinned.
She then turned and raced through the woods until she found the baseball area.
She kicked the ball and then they all launched into a game of soccer.
They separate into teams instinctually.
Alex was with the Cullens and so were some of the other wolves.
Knight, Nick, Mike, and Tom were on the opposite team with the others.
It was a fast-paced game.
Jasper watched as the wolves played hard. They didn't seem to be scared of getting hurt or getting bruises.
He already saw Alex get kicked in the legs a few times and at one point she was lifted in the air to prevent from scoring.
It was an anything goes game.
Alex panted hard; she was sweating but very happy.
Several of the guys had removed their shirts. She didn't blame them.
Her eyes landed on Knight.
He was on the other team and her biggest rival during the game.
They were in tuned into each other that they focused on making sure to stop the other.
He had taken off his shirt and she would admit it made her think bad things.
Edward who was standing next to her laugh.
"What?"
"I'm a mind reader."
Alex turned pale.
"You mean…"
Edward nodded.
"If it helps, his thought aren't any better."
Alex grinned an evil grin.
"Are you a prude?"
"Am I a what?"
But it was too late.
Alex had already tugged of her shirt.
She dropped it on the floor and stood there in her blue lace bra.
She ignored all the wolf whistles from everyone.
Jasper and Edward who were both on her team exchanged glances.
Edward heard her think- Time to play dirty and fair. After all anything goes.
Jasper could feel her anger, hurt, determinate, and lust.
Alex raised her head to look at Knight and then sending him a smile, she grabbed a water bottle and dumped it on herself like some of the other guys.
More wolf whistles erupted.
A few other girls took off their shirts and stood in their tank tops or bras.
Alex looked at the girls on her team and nodded.
GAME ON!
Esme who was referring blew the whistle and they were off.
Alex made sure to stay as close to Knight as possible.
She was determined to distract him.
And it worked.
She run in front on him and tossed him a wink as she went. He stumbled and she caught the ball from a teammate and kicked it, making a goal.
This seemed to make him even more determined to win.
They sent each other winks and ran as close as possible to each other.
Alex flipped her pony tail and he picked her up a few times.
Everyone laughed at the pair.
If they could get over their issues, they could actually make the imprint work, but both were too stubborn or hurt.
The game ended with Alex's team winning, 21 to 19.
They all walked back to the house exhausted and hungry.
The wolves were all talking and messing around with each other.
Jasper could see that they were all like a huge family.
He smiled as he saw his family making an effort to talk to the wolves.
He looked for Alex to talk to her but didn't see her.
He scanned the crowd and noticed that Knight was also missing.
Then he felt anger.
Alex grabbed her shirt from the ground as a hand grabbed her elbow.
She knew it was Knight.
"What?"
"Can we talk?"
"I can't not now."
"You can't put it off forever."
Alex smiled sadly.
"You are right. I can't. But not know. The pain is still there. I still see what happened that night. I can see her kissing you and you pulling off her shirt. I see you in nothing but your jeans, the belt undone."
Alex closed her eyes.
"Of all the girls, it had to be her? My ex best friend? I thought you loved me, but you don't hurt someone you love without a good reason. You cheated on me. You broke me."
Her voice rose, anger coursing through her veins.
"I never believed in love, not until I met you. I was so naïve then. Now I know love doesn't exist."
"Gypsy."
Alex shook her head.
"We will talk, but not today. Not tomorrow."
"This is my goodbye for now."
She kissed his cheek and then he grabbed her and kissed her lips. She kissed back for a few seconds and then bolted.
She crashed into Jasper. Their eyes locked and then she broke away.
Jasper looked at her sadly. He couldn't feel anything.
Her shield had gone up.
She spent the rest of the time talking to everyone.
She talked fashion with Alice and Rosaline. Esme and her traded recipes. Emmett and her talked sports.
Edward was surprised to know that Alex loved to read.
The wolves were surprised to see her so calm and happy. She actually looked like she was her real age, not thirty years older.
Alex grabbed some food from the grill. She then grabbed some lemonade from the cooler.
She smiled at everyone and walked toward the house.
Edward was in the kitchen. He looked up from his book when she came in. He studied her for a second.
"Up the stairs, last door on the right. There's a flight of stairs that leads up the roof. No one goes up there. No one can see you. It's peaceful."
Alex nodded her thanks and followed the directions.
She reached the roof and sat down. She looked out at the view.
It was gorgeous. She was surrounded by trees completely. Up on the roof, it was like she was the only one in this part of the world.
She could hear the birds chirping and the deer running.
She could also hear the feet climbing up the stairs. She tensed and then relaxed as Jasper's scent reached her.
Jasper always smelled like leather, and metal-like from weapons. He also had a faint smell of blue berries. And of course he smelled like death.
"Hey Jasper."
Jasper sat down next to her.
"How did you know it was me?"
"Super hearing. I can recognize your footsteps and your scent."
"My scent?"
"Everyone has a unique scent. But the thing is, the scent is different to all wolves. I can smell like strawberries one wolf and to another like peaches."
"What do I smell like?"
"You smell like leather like a leather jacket, metal like riffles or guns, and blueberries. And death, of course"
"That's a weird combination."
"Not really, it all fits surprisingly . Leather probably from the inside of a car or a leather jacket, metal connects to your past as a soldier, and blueberries were your favorite berries. And all vampires smell like death."
Jasper smiled. It was true he loved blueberries.
"So everyone has a different scent but wolves can smell different scents on the same person."
"Yes, but there are similarities."
"Each person has one characteristic that appears everywhere."
"What's mine?"
"You would have to ask the other wolves what you smell like to them."
The two fell silent, staring out into the trees.
"I don't think I ever seen you shift."
Alex looked at him, her brow furrowed, thinking.
"I'll show you one day."
Alex leaned back and closed her eyes.
The wind whipped her hair around her shoulders and body.
Jasper watched as light blue strands mixed with black strands.
He chuckled.
"When I first met you, you had lime green streaks."
He tugged on a strand.
Alex laughed.
"The lime green was a dare. "
"What color are you getting next?"
"I don't know. Purple or maybe gold, like your eyes."
Jasper looked at her to see her eyes were gold like his.
"Your eyes…"
"Wanna know a secret? My eye color is affected by my emotions…
You're the first person I have told that too. You can guess what each color means."
Jasper smiled. He was looking forward to that challenge.
"Gold means happiness?"
Alex shook her head.
"Gold means I'm calm or peaceful."
The two sat on the roof for a while longer.
After a while, Alex laid her head on his shoulder.
Jasper could sense she was sad.
"What's wrong?"
She shook her head.
"I'm not going to talk about it today. Today has been good, I'm not ruining it."
Jasper took her hand.
It was small and warm. She shivered at his cold touch but cherished it all the same.
He squeezed it and she smiled.
They sat in silence, listening to everyone laughing. They watched the sun set and the stars came out.
The moon shone down right on them and Alex tilted her head upward.
The moon made her glow.
She threw back her head and then howled.
The others joined in and Jasper listened to them.
Alex turned to him. "We have to get going."
"Why don't you stay?"
"What?"
"You didn't go see Leah yet, and I know you have your stuff in the car. You were going to leave tonight right, driving?"
"How did you know that?"
"I know you."
Alex bit her lip and then nodded.
"I'm not needed for another few days. Meetings are over but I really don't want to hang out with them. This year's meetings were the worse. "
Alex stood up and peered over the side of the roof, looking down.
Then she jumped.
Jasper acted instantly and jumped after her.
He heard her laughing and everyone gasped as she came rushing down.
Then she landed on her two feet, like a cat.
Jasper was torn between yelling at here and laughing with her.
Alex curtsied and darted to the car. She pulled out her bags and rushed inside, depositing them in a corner.
When she went outside, the remaining wolves were packing up
She said her goodbyes and helped clean up.
Afterwards, she and Cullens settled to watch a movie.
Alex is on the computer as usual, this time working on a history paper.
But Edward gets a glimpse into her mind and Jasper catches the emotions.
Should I tell him? Should I wait?
Maybe I should think this over. But you have thought about it for that past 4 months. You dreamed about this since forever.
Maybe I should wait until plans are finalized.
Damm it! You are leaving tomorrow morning. How much more final can it get?
Jasper's a good guy but what about Leah? I need to tell her. It's not fair that I tell him but not her.
I haven't even told my pack yet!
Maybe I should cancel. It can't be too late to back out right?
Edward took a deep breath.
"Just say it."
He got up and tugged on Alice's hand.
The two walked up the stairs. Rosaline looked at her brother and pulled Emmett up to his feet. She whispered in his ear and he grinned. They went outside.
Esme and Carlisle got up.
"Stay. Please?"
Jasper looked at Alex.
She was biting her lip and playing with her shirt, twisting it.
He could feel waves of fear and worry coming off her.
Something was wrong.
Esme and Carlisle sat back down.
Alex looked up, trembling.
She pulled out two envelopes.
One was from a fancy university.
Another was from a prison overseas.
Jasper took the first envelope.
"Alex?"
"I'm taking online classes right now. Getting my degree in psychology. Specialization in juveniles with hard pasts."
"Like yours?"
She nodded.
"I graduated high school two years ago when I was 15 years old. I skipped a few grades and was supposed to start college. They accepted me."
She pointed to the envelope.
Esme placed her hand next to Alex.
"What happened?"
"I shifted. And I left home. I applied to get out of the foster system and did it. I couldn't go to college until I could control my shifting. I was alone and broken. Knight and I had broken up again so I couldn't ask him for help. I was too proud, too mad to ask for help. I worked as a waitress at a local strip joint. I asked my boss if I could start stripping instead. Got the job and went to school online. Few months later, Mike shifted and he caught me shifting. Brought me home and I lived in the rez since then. I never thought I would get accepted again. "
"But you did."
Carlisle said taking the envelope from Jasper and scanning the letter inside.
It clicked just then in Jasper's mind.
"You feel guilty accepting. Like you are abandoning your duties to your pack."
Esme gasped. "Oh, darling. You shouldn't feel guilty. You are a smart girl. The boys will understand."
Carlisle looked at her. "Alex, your are 17. For once, be a teenager. Go to college, you can just as easily manage the pack from another city and even another country."
Jasper studied her. "Do it. Do something for yourself. I l know you are scared but don't let that fear hold you back."
Jasper grabbed the other envelope.
"What's this about?"
"My friend works in helping criminals. This man killed another man- a rapist. He was sentenced to jail for 20 years because he confessed. He has a chance of parole and my friend asked me to take him in. He's a wolf. He wrote to me asking for me to visit him so we could talk. And I'm considering on letting him join my pack."
"Why are you considering it, dear?"
"That's easy, Esme. Everyone deserves a second chance."
Carlisle nodded in agreement.
This 17 year old girl stunned him. She was far too mature for her age. She was making life decisions most didn't make till they were 80.
Jasper bit his lip from making a comment. He wanted to ask her if that was the case them why didn't she giver her ex a chance.
"When do you go?"
"I'm supposed to leave tomorrow evening."
"Where"
"Greece."
"How long will you be gone?"
"A few days but I will be flying back and forth for a while."
They talked for a bit and then Esme and Carlisle left , Esme giving the younger girl a hug.
Jasper turned to Alex.
"Give me the details you left out."
"How do you know I left details out?"
"I could sense that there was more to the story."
Alex sighed.
"College is a big thing for me. It's freedom. It gives me a normal human life. "
"You are not human."
"Sometimes it's nice to pretend that I am."
"And about that wolf in prison?"
Alex shifted and uncrossed her legs, letting them dangle on the couch.
"I don't want to talk about him. I can't. I'm not ready. But I know him. And I owe him."
Jasper wrapped an arm around her.
"Tell me when you're ready."
She nodded."Thanks for having us."
"Our pleasure. Esme loves cooking."
"I need to get her recipes."
"Good luck with that."
Jasper's phone rang.
"It's Leah."
He picked up.
"Hi."
"Oh really?"
"Actually Alex is here. She had a picnic with some friends and then came over here to crash because they left her behind."
"We'll be there in 10."
He hung up and turned to Alex.
"Leah wants us to come with her a party."
"Where?"
"Seattle."
"That's two hours away. But I can get us there in 30."
Alex ran too get changed and Jasper grabbed his keys.
They went to La Push to pick Leah up.
They were surprised to see Jake with her.
Leah and Jake scrambled into the car and they were off.
They got to the party and Jasper tensed at all the humans.
"You can drink from me?"
He looked at Alex. "I can't."
"Jasper, If you need to you will."
They followed Leah inside and went to the beer coolers.
Jasper grabbed some beer for the girls and Jake.
Leah held up her can.
"Cheers to us."
Alex whispered to Jake. "What are we celebrating?"
"School's out!"
Alex threw back her head and laughed and Leah joined in.
They all clinked cans and drank.
Then a hand grabbed Alex's and she was pulled to the dance floor. She saw that it was a pretty red head. The two girls began dancing and grinding.
Leah grabbed Jake and Jasper and soon they were partying with a group of strangers.
When it was time to leave, Jasper took them home.
Alex asked him if they could go out to eat. Since they all had maybe two beers they weren't drunk so they drove to a restaurant.
Jasper and Jake went to order the food leaving the two girls alone.
"Leah… I have something to tell you."
"What's wrong Alex?"
"I'm leaving and I don't know when I'm coming back."
"Where?
"To Greece."
"When?"
"Tomorrow night?"
"Why?"
Alex wanted to tell her but it was wolf business, so she settled for a simple truth and lie.
"I have an old friend living there. I'm going to surprise him, he's going through a tough time so I plan to be there for a while."
Leah hugged the younger girl.
"Have fun then. Call me twice a week and don't forget to bring me something!"
Alex laughed. "Of course!"
Jasper and Jake came back with the food and ate laughing and joking around.
They drive home, dropping Leah and Jake off. They agreed to come to the airport the next afternoon. Leah is leaning on Jake, dead tired. She plans to crash at his house.
Alex and Jasper head to his home. He smiled when he see that she is trying to stay awake. When he gets home, he finds Edward sitting outside.
Jasper looks at Alex, who is now asleep. He picks her up and carries her to his room. Alice offers to change her clothes and he leaves them.
He heads to Edward.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm just thinking about Bella. She is so determined to become one of us. It scared me."
"Girls are just scary in general."
"I know. I wonder how the summer will be?"
"Forget the summer. What will we do next school year?"
They sat in silence thinking of the future.
And of the girls who managed to become involved in their lives.
The next day, Jasper drove Alex to Leah's so she could say goodbye.
Alex was in for quite a shock when she came in. She didn't go in the house often, since Sue wasn't that fond of her. When she was younger, Sue took care of her and they got along. When she got older, things changed. Alex had gotten street smart and learned to take care of herself. Sue was upset that she couldn't baby her anymore.
However, when she stepped in, Sue was sitting with Leah.
Alex braced herself but to her surprise Sue flew out of her seat and she was hugged tightly by the older woman. Alex didn't care why Sue had a change of heart, she just threw her arms around Sue.
Sue began crying and murmuring. Alex hugged Sue tightly.
They both drew back.
"Alex. I'm so sorry."
Alex looked at Sue waiting for an explanation.
"I'm sure Leah told you about Bella leaving and I realized that Leah could leave too. I felt bad about the way I treated you both. I found this and it reminded me of happy times."
She pulled out a faded photograph.
Alex smiles sadly. It was probably one of her favorite memories. She was about years old. she was wearing shorts and a pretty shirt. Her hair was loose and very long. She standing in front of Jake and Leah who had their arms thrown around each other. Leah was leaning into Jake and they were all smiling. It was a perfect summer evening.
She kissed Sue's cheek. They would have a long way to go to get back to where they used to be, but they were going to try.
Alex was sad to say bye to them.
Seth and Jake had tried to dump her in the lake before she left before Harry called them to put her down. She gave everyone kisses.
Leah and Jake then got on Leah's bike and followed them to the airport.
At the airport, they don't have to wait long before her flight is called.
Hugs and kisses are given and she is off.
Jake and Jasper grab Leah's hands and they watch the plane and their friend fly away.
Summer was just starting and it wouldn't be long until it was over. But till then, they were going to enjoy summer.
So, kind of a filler. Things have been hectic but I need to post something, so here you go. Hopefully the next few will be better.
Next chapter will be Leah centric. It will tell what Leah was doing while Bella went missing and Alex was in the meeting and stuff. It will end with summer ending because I need to speed things up. After that it will skip to Bella's party and Jasper freaking out.
It should go faster and smoother from there. Not sure when next update will be since finals are coming up.
Just wanted to thank everyone who followed, favorited, reviewed. Means a lot to me.
I need to explain why Sue apologized. I like her and I don't know why I made her so mean to Leah in the beginning. reading over those chapter I knew I had to make up a way to get Sue back in everyone's good graces. more will be explained next chapter but Sue is now nice.
Okay, so many people are wondering why Alex is in this fic. This is a story about Leah and her pains. Leah is getting hurt and will have the world torn from under her feet. I put Alex in for a reason.
Alex is going to help her. There hasn't been a female wolf in La Push, so the boys don't know what to do with her. And the fact that they don't like her is not helping. Alex being a wolf will give Leah advice about being a wolf.
Also, Leah doesn't have a best girlfriend. Emily betrayed her, so Alex is the closest this she has to a best friend.
Alex is friends with Jasper because I feel like Jasper should have someone he can be himself around. Around Alice and his family, he acts one way. Around Leah, he acts human. Around Alex, he can be himself. Alex is like his little sister, since he and Bella could never have this type of relationship.
Alex is also showing how hard it is to be a wolf, but its harder to be a female. And her past with the imprint shows how the imprint isn't always a good thing.
Just wanted to clear some things up.
I'll answer guest reviews next chapter.
Love you Wallflowers!
Happy Easter! and 4/20 if you celebrated it.
