A/N: Hey everyone I'm finally going to update the next chapter, man it's been a while and I hadn't planned for this to happen. I was supposed to finish writing this chapter and get it up by September at the latest, but my first semester of college started and it's been occupying all of my time. I never knew college was so much work, but I think I'm kinda getting the hang of it now, so I've made time to update this story. Chapter 10- Betrayal

Not long after Katara and Aang's argument Katara had ran into another good looking dom while in town with Jet. She had been attracted to him right away. After meeting with him the first time she had started sneaking out to see him. At first they just talked, but over time talking led to kissing, which led to other things. A few months had passed after Katara had started seeing this guy and no one in the pack knew that Katara had been cheating on Jet, but that was about to change.

Jet whom was oblivious to Katara's cheating was planning on making her his mate. He had thought this over for a while and was ready to ask her, but he wanted it to be perfect when he did.

Li had been going on missions regularly with no problem, but on a more difficult mission he had gotten injured. It was nothing serious, it just scared all of them at first. Because of Li getting hurt Jet was making him sit the next mission out despite the fact that Li was complaining that he was fine. Li was unhappy with this, but ended up accepting his fate of being stuck at home.

Katara didn't know he'd be staying so invited Sam, the dom she was cheating on Jet with, over during the mission like usual. Li on the other hand in order to cure his boredom was just wondering around the caves and making sure everything was where it should be and in working order.

I was aimlessly walking around when I heard the unmistakable sound of someone entering the hideout. There was no way the pack were coming back already because they just left. Who could it be though? If it were fire nation soldiers they'd make more commotion. I decided to quietly spy on this mysterious intruder to see what kind of threat they could be.

After reaching the entrance I quickly hid in a spot that I could easily see the intruder, but not be seen myself. The intruder was a fairly good looking earth kingdom dom, but if you asked me he wasn't much more than average. He had brown hair, light brown eyes, tanned skin and slight muscles. This guy was nothing special and I was about to come out of hiding to confront this stranger when to my surprise Katara came into view and hugged said stranger.

"Hey Sam, I've missed you." Katara said.

"Missed ya too baby." Sam said.

"Everyone's already gone on the mission."

"I know, I saw them leave. Are you sure nobody stayed behind?"

"Yeah cause if they did then they'd be threatening you by now." She explained.

"Good."

The pair leaned forwards to share a gentle but passionate kiss. Neither had any clue that Li had witnessed this display of affection. Li on the other hand was horrified at what he was seeing because it meant Katara was cheating on Jet. This would only lead to more problems and drama. Not to mention that Li really didn't want to be the one to tell Jet this bad news.

"Come on let's go to your 'room' to have some fun." Sam said eagerly after pulling away.

"Ok, let's go." Katara agreed.

They continued onto Jet's room to do things Li didn't even want to think about. Too bad for him that he was able to hear everything from his own room and there was no mistake about what they were up to in there. They were definitely having sex. Li really wanted to confront Katara and this Sam about it, but at the same time he didn't want to go in the room in fear of seeing what they were doing. Because of this dilemma he decided to give them another hour before going into confront them.

The hour had passed painfully slow for an anxious Li who just wanted to get this confrontation over with. He was about to enter the room and hoped that they would be decent though he highly doubted they would be. When he entered he regretted not waiting longer based on what he saw and wished he could unsee. What he saw was a naked Sam thrusting into an equally naked Katara and they were so caught up in their 'private activities' that neither of them even noticed Li had entered the room. To get their attention Li made a huge bang which seemed to work like a charm seeing as Sam quickly pulled out of Katara and they both tried to cover themselves.

"You guys are back already?" Katara asked horrified.

"No it's just me and by the way I never left."

"Why not?"

"Because Jet forced me to stay."

"That doesn't explain why you are in here."

"I'm in here to find out why you let some strange dom in our hideout and why you're cheating on Jet with him."

"That's none of your business."

"Actually it is."

"How?"

"You're letting a stranger into my home and cheating on my best friend."

"Best friend? As if. He doesn't want anything to do with you."

"That's not true."

"Isn't it?"

"Hey, Katara who is your friend here?" Sam interrupted.

"He's not my friend and his name is Li."

"Li, huh?"

"Yes that's my name, now why don't you leave. Katara and I have some unfinished business."

"Bossy much? Well I don't think I will leave yet."

"Why not?" Li asked.

"Because you amuse me and plus you are in no position to be giving me orders." Sam explained.

"Sure I am. This is my home and I'm the beta of this pack which gives me plenty of authority to kick you out."

"That may be true but if you hadn't noticed the rest of your little pack isn't here to back you up and Katara here sure the hell won't help you. Here and now I could easily overpower you. Plus, I never did respect authority that didn't have the strength to back them up." Sam taunted.

"What makes you so sure? How do you know that I don't have some kind of secret weapon?"

"The fear in your eyes tells me everything I need to know."

Li gulped as he cautiously took a step back. This dom had a sinister look in his eyes which said not to cross his path or else. Li was sure he had some kind of ulterior motive up his sleeve that even Katara was unaware about.

"Katara how long has this been going on?" Li asked her.

"Not that it's any of your business but a few months."

"Why would you cheat on Jet and bring a potentially dangerous dom into our hideout."

"Because I can and there is nothing dangerous about Sam."

"How do you know? It's not like he would tell you that he's dangerous."

"I just know."

"And why would you even want to cheat on Jet? You know he loves you and had planned on making you his mate."

"Well I don't love him and I know he isn't the one, but if I broke it off with him he might get mad and throw me out of the pack, I don't have anywhere else to go."

"He wouldn't do that to anyone in his pack, let alone you. He'll let you stay as long as you need to, even after he finds out about all of this. He doesn't believe in abandoning anyone no matter what the circumstance."

"How can you be so sure?" Katara asked curiously.

"Because I've known him for a lot longer than you and I can feel all of his emotions. We have a connection that allows us to completely understand each other. Jet wouldn't abandon anyone in a time of need, just trust me."

"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. Even when you think you know people and that they would never do something in a million years, they may surprise you. People will turn their backs on you the second that you mess up without a second thought. Plus, you are the last person that I would ever trust. You hate me and would probably be happy if Jet were to kick me out."

"That isn't true, Katara, I've never hated you. I'll admit that I don't like you much, I'm jealous of you and I hate that Jet started treating me differently after you came but I've never hated you and even if I did I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I don't know what happened to you that makes you believe everyone would turn their backs on you like that but not everyone is like that. There are a lot of people who would do that, yet at the same time, there are a lot of people who wouldn't do that as well. Do you really think that either Aang or Sokka would just turn their backs on you?"

"No, they wouldn't, but I'm not so sure about anyone else."

"You don't have to trust me, I understand, but you should at least trust Sokka and Aang. They would never turn their backs on you nor would they leave you alone if Jet did."

"You're going to tell him about this, aren't you?" Katara asked changing the subject.

"I shouldn't have to because you should be the one to tell him. It isn't right to lead him on like this if you really don't feel the same, but I will tell him if you don't."

"He won't believe you." Katara taunted.

"Probably not. He's too blinded by love to see the truth, but I have to at least try."

"He may be blinded by love in this case but if you hadn't noticed Jet hasn't really believed anything you've said for a while." She continued to taunt.

"Trust me, I've noticed." Li said with a heavy sigh.

"Did I hit nerve? You should hear all the mean things he says about you when you aren't around. He really doesn't want anything to do with you anymore and I would go as far to say that he might even hate you."

"That isn't true. We have our problems and we might not even really be friends anymore, but he doesn't hate me, he still cares or else he wouldn't have made me stay home tonight." Li said confidently.

"Believe whatever you want. You can go ahead and tell him though because I'm not going to tell him."

"Are you going to keep cheating on him?"

"Yes. I'll just have to be more careful from now on.

"You've been using him this whole time, haven't you? You never really cared about him like that, it was all just an act." Li accused.

"You're right again Li, but good luck getting him to believe you."

The rest of the pack had returned from the mission within a few hours after my talk with Katara. Her dom, Sam, had left at least an hour before they showed up so no none would catch him leaving. I knew I had to find a way to tell Jet, even if he didn't believe me. I really hate to be the one to tell him this horrible news though.

"Hey, Li? What's wrong?" Sokka asked.

"It's nothing." I tried to brush off.

"If it's bothering you then it isn't nothing. You can tell me." Sokka said gently while pulling me into his arms and kissing my right cheek.

"It's just something I found out and need to tell Jet." I explained.

"What did you find out?"

"I don't know if I should tell you before him. It's kind of a private matter."

"It's about my sister, isn't it?"

"Yes."

"Then you should tell me because I have a right to know what she's up to, plus I won't tell anyone."

"Well, she's been doing something that'll really hurt Jet and I caught her. She said she won't stop or tell him, but I think that he has a right to know. I just don't want to be the one to tell him." I explained.

"What did she do that'll hurt him?"

"I don't think you'll believe me if I tell you just like he won't believe me when I tell him."

"Try me. I've known her my whole life and she's done some pretty bad stuff."

"Ok. Well when you all left on the mission I caught her sneaking a strange dom in and she's been cheating on Jet with him."

"Oh I definitely believe that. She's done it before and I can almost guarantee that the dom's name is Sam."

"Yeah, why would she do this? And how did you know?"

"It starts when we were younger. The fire nation attacked our tribe and the reason they found it was because they followed her back to it. The tribe blamed her and decided as punishment they were going to kick her out, but I stood up for her, so they kicked me out too. We were branded as traitors in our tribe. After being kicked out we went off on our own and at the time I was only twelve and didn't know what I was doing or how to survive out on our own, which almost got us killed multiple times. That's how we met Aang, but things didn't get any easier. After a year or so on our own with the addition of Aang she found out that she could manipulate doms to get us what we needed. As she got older the manipulation changed because she found out that some of the doms were attracted to her. She thinks if she can make one fall with her then we'll never have to worry about being thrown out again. We've never had a permanent home since we left our own tribe and she that's what she wants, but she's afraid of people she trusts turning their backs on her again. She believes the only way to know for sure is to be mated to a leader and is willing to go so far as to completely deny the fact that Aang is her true mate. I know what she's doing is wrong, but I can't stop her and believe me when I say I've tried."

"That's really sad, but you know that Jet would never have thrown any of you out in the first place. Who's this Sam and what exactly is a true mate?"

"Sam is bad news and has screwed us over more than once. Katara always goes back to him for some reason and it seems like he's always around no matter where we go. Can you promise me to stay away from him and to tell me if he tries anything."

"Why?"

"Because I don't want him to hurt you."

"What about Katara?"

"He won't harm her."

"Why not?"

"Because he uses her to get to other subs, subs like you." Sokka explained.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"He's an evil person Li, just stay away form him."

"I'll promise if you tell me how he's evil."

"Fine. He uses Katara and other subs like her to see if she's in contact with other subs because otherwise she's no good to him. If she is he takes subs that have matured but at the same time are still innocent, like you, and sells them to the fire nation for a lot of money. Katara's no good that way to him because she isn't innocent."

"Does she know that he does that?" I asked horrified.

"I've tried to tell her, but she doesn't believe me. She thinks I'm making it up because I don't like him and I need an excuse for her not to see him again. He's a good con artist that fools many people and despite what it looks like he is too strong for me to stop, but maybe Jet would be able to." Sokka explained.

"Ok, I'll stay away from him."

"Good and just let Jet know about Sam."

"I will, but you still haven't told me exactly what a true mate is."

"You really don't know?" Sokka asked surprised.

"No, it sounds familiar like I used to know what it was, but I have never heard it since I've met Jet and I don't really remember my life before the day I met him."

"I thought you were like thirteen when you met Jet."

"I was, but all I can remember was waking up on a beach and going into the forest before being attacked by fire nation soldiers and being saved by Jet. Everything before then is just blank, I don't even remember my real name. Jet gave me the name Li and said that I have amnesia."

"Sounds like it. Ok, well a true mate is sort of like a person's soul mate. Not everyone finds their true mate so many just fall in love and mate with that person instead. It's similar to regular mates, but from what I've heard the bond is much stronger and if one of the true mates were to die it makes life agonizingly miserable for the remaining one. I don't know much more than that."

"That's interesting. And you say that Katara and Aang have this true mate bond?"

"Yes."

"How do you know?"

"That's hard to explain. You can find a true mate through scent, but if you've known them before maturity it becomes harder for some reason. I know they are because of how I've seen them interact with one another. It's supposed to be almost impossible to deny you true mate, but I think Katara is doing a pretty good job. I think she will recognize him as her true mate one day though."

Li had decided to wait a few days before telling Jet what he found out just in case Katara decided to do the right thing by telling him what was going on. He really didn't think that she would, but he wanted to at least give her a chance to. He had been keeping a close eye on Jet's emotions through the connection they shared and he could tell that Katara hadn't bothered to tell him the truth. After three days Li had given up on Katara telling Jet anything.

"Hey, Jet I need to talk to you about something important." I said as I approached him.

"What do you want Li? Can't you see that I'm busy?" Jet said harshly.

"You always say you're busy when I want to talk." I complained.

"Maybe that should be a clue that I don't want to talk to you."

"Come on Jet this is important. If it weren't I wouldn't bother trying to talk to you since it's obvious being in my presence seems to bother you so much."

"Is it about the pack?"

"Not exactly, but this problem could endanger some of them."

"Fine then, let's talk."

Li nervously led Jet into his room because he didn't want any prying ears, like Katara, interrupting this conversation. This was the one place Katara wouldn't be caught dead going. Li was anxious of telling Jet of his findings, yet at the same time knew he had to because if he didn't, then nobody else would.

"Li just tell me what's going on." Jet demanded.

"I am but you aren't going to like it."

"I know that much based on the nervousness and anxiety you're feeling. Just get it over with, like ripping off a band aide, so I can fix whatever problem has come up."

"Ok, it has to do with Katara." Li started.

"What do you mean? Is she ok? What happened?" Jet asked.

"She's fine, but I caught her sneaking a strange dom into the hideout while you were all on a mission and she was cheating on you with this dom. His name is Sam." I explained.

I looked up into Jet's eyes to so I could better see his reaction to the news. Many different emotions ran through him within the span of a few minutes so quickly that I couldn't keep track of them even through our connection.

"It really shouldn't surprise me that you're actually doing this, not when Katara warned me you would." Jet said strangely calm.

"What are you talking about? I'm just telling you what I think you have the right to know. What did Katara supposedly 'warn' you about?" I asked confused.

"She told me that you were planning on breaking us up. She heard you scheming and warned me that you'd come to me with some fabricated story like her cheating on me. She told me that you would do this, but I didn't believe her. I didn't think that even you would sink so low as to make things up in order to hurt me." Jet said bitterly.

"You think that I'm making this up? Why would I want to do something to hurt you?" I asked hurt that he'd think so lowly of me.

"I don't know why you're doing this. I don't know why you want to hurt me. Maybe you're still jealous of how much things have changed since we met Katara or you just want to get back at me for hurting you."

"Jet I'm not making any of this up. Yeah, I'll admit that I'm jealous of Katara, how much you care about her when it seems like you wouldn't give a damn if you never saw me again, you have really hurt me and continue to do so, but I would never do anything to intentionally hurt you. Despite everything that has happened you still mean a lot to me, I still love you and I think apart of me always will." I explained.

"Well I don't love you and I probably never will." Jet said coldly.

"I know that Jet, you've said it enough times. I'm not doing this to hurt you, but I think that you deserve to at least know what's going on and I already knew you wouldn't believe me. I had to at least try to warn you though. Plus, the dom that she's sneaking around with is bad news and could be a threat and as alpha it is your job to protect this pack from any threats."

"Let's say I believe this farce for a second. How would you know that this dom is a threat? Why haven't they hurt Katara yet then?"

"Sokka told me. They have a history with Sam and Katara isn't doing it to hurt you either. Some stuff has happened to her in the past that make it hard to trust people so easily. She's afraid that if you don't love her, that if you don't make her your mate then you'll eventually turn your back on her and kick her out of the pack." I explained.

"I would never do something like that!" Jet exclaimed.

"I know that and I've tried to tel her, but she doesn't believe me, she doesn't trust me."

"I wouldn't trust you either if I were her. What does this... Sam do that makes him a possible threat?"

"He wouldn't be a threat to everyone, just some of the subs. Sokka says that he uses Katara to get to other subs, subs that have matured, but are still innocent. He sells them to the fire nation."

"You mean subs like you."

"That's what Sokka says. He gets more profit from them."

"You're lying!"

"No, I'm not."

"Katara wouldn't put other subs in danger like that, she knows what the fire nation would do that to them. She wouldn't even do something like that to you and she hates you."

I know she wouldn't consciously do something like that, but I'm not going to argue with you about it. I'm just warning you about him and you can choose to believe me or not, it's up to you. Just remember if something happens I warned you." I said before leaving Jet to think about everything.

A/N: I hope you all enjoyed this long awaited chapter and I hope it was worth the wait. Again I'm sorry for making you all wait so long it wasn't meant to be so long and from now on I will try to update more often, but I'm not making any promises because when you have a well laid out plan things never go according to plan. Take this chapter for instance, Sam wasn't supposed have any purpose other than being some dom that Katara was cheating on Jet with and now he has his own whole plot twist as you can see, Jet was supposed to find out about Katara's cheating in this chapter but Sam's plot twist didn't leave room for that, and Katara wasn't supposed to have this sad history about her tribe kicking her out. Also, Ace was originally meant to only be a background character that didn't have much purpose other than being one of Jet's closest friends before meeting Li/Zuko. As you can see this story has a mind of its own and never seems to follow my plans.
