PSA – To all of my readers, new and old, and anyone who makes it unwittingly through the story to reach this last bit without having realized my ultimate message ahead of time. This story is no longer updating.
I really appreciate the support that I received while I was writing on FFN and when I was deeply enmeshed in the Star Trek fandom. It was overwhelmingly positive and exciting for my stories to be loved, reviewed, and favorited by so many people. I got so many nice comments and encouragements. I made friends. It was an awesome experience.
I still get feedback on my stories occasionally, and I thank those who are willing to take the time to write a review even now. Many of them are polite and encouraging. Thank you! You're so thoughtful and they make me smile when I see them, even if I don't reply. However, some of the other comments are pretty short and consist solely of a demand: update now. Update soon.
When I was younger I would have been bothered by comments like this. They're pretty rude. Authors don't owe their fans anything, especially authors who write for free. But I'm not a teenager anymore. In fact, I'm in my mid-twenties and have a master's degree and I write things for money. So I just find these comments kind of funny and strange.
Heatsink hasn't updated since February, 2010. That was more than six and half years ago. Thank you, kind strangers, for putting your faith in me, but don't. Seriously, guys. ._. You'll be happier in the long run. This story isn't going to update again.
To anyone who still enjoys Heatsink and my other works, thank you! I'm glad that I wrote something that can make you happy. I apologize that six years ago I was a new college student with rapidly changing obsessions and a lack of commitment. I hate the feeling of reading incomplete stories, too. I'm grateful that you can still get something out of the story.
To people who leave those demanding comments: you're probably not trying to be rude. In any case, I'm not offended or anything. But think – next time you write a review for someone's story, try telling them what your favorite part was, what you liked about their characterization, any constructive criticism you have, and yes, your excitement about the (hopefully) upcoming next chapter. Authors love reviews, and they love their fans and supporters. They don't like demands. And if in doubt, check the Last Updated date before reading to avoid false hope.
Hope everyone has a great time exploring fanfiction here on FFN. If anyone is interested, I jumped ship to Archive of Our Own some time ago. My username there is also vergoftowels. I still write and post fic (very) occasionally, but not for Star Trek.
Have a happy upcoming Halloween!
Thanks,
Verg
