Chapter 10
Early the next morning, Rito slowly wakes up, he rubs the sleepiness from his eyes then stands up and looks over at the sleeping Louise. Okay, fresh clothes. He walks over to the wardrobe and pulls out all the clothes Louise will need for her day. He then takes them over to the bed and sets them down, "Louise, Louise, time to wake up it morning." He says shaking her shoulder.
Louise opens her eyes, turns over and looks at him, "Oh, Rito." She says sitting up, "I see it's morning." She says sleepily as she looks out the window.
"Here are your clothes, put on your panties and I'll 'help' with the rest." He says handing her the clothes, he then turns away taking a few steps.
Louise turns to him and glares, "Didn't I tell you not to tell me what to do peasant?" Louise grumbles as she gets out of bed, removes her nightgown, and puts on her panties. "Alright, you can dress me now." She says bluntly holding out her clothes for Rito.
Rito turns, takes the clothes from her and closes his eyes while dressing her.
Later Rito finishes dressing Louise, "There, all done." He says walks to the door and opens it and Louise walks out.
Rito follows her out and down the stairs and outside. Louise walks into the dining hall and Rito walks to the wall with other familiars.
Minutes later Siesta walks up to him with two trays of food for the familiars. "Good morning, Mr. Rito." She says kindly as she walks by and sets the trays down and starts setting the bowls of food down for the familiars.
"Good morning Siesta." He says watching her.
After she finishes they walk towards the kitchen together. They enter the kitchen and are eminently greeted by Marteau, "Rito our Sword, good to see you. I really appreciated your help last night." He says grabbing Rito by his shoulders. "I've prepared a most delicious breakfast for you this morning as thanks." He says walking Rito to a table with several plates of food and sits him down, "Please eat , our Sword." He says then walks away.
"Thanks for the food." Rito says putting his hands together then starts eating.
Later, after Rito finishes eating he and Siesta talk some more; he tells her about his school, the festivals his been to. She shows interest in yukatas, when Rito described what one looked like.
Rito looses track of time and realizes that Louise's class is about to start, "Oh, no I'm going to be late. I'm sorry Siesta, I got to go." He says getting up.
"Okay, see you later." She says as he leaves.
Rito is running through the court yard when his mind flashes. In a dark room, only visible by moon light, he sees himself and a girl with long blond hair laying on photons on the floor, their hands locked together between them and she's telling him about her past. The scene flashes and his back in the court yard running, Why did I think of Yami when our hands were magnetized together all of a sudden? He asks himself just before he turns a corner and topples over someone. He feels a sting of electricity in his right, but it disappears as he opens his eyes to see Tabitha staring back at him, his right hand and her left locked together, "I'm so sorry about that." He apologizes as he gets up and hosts her up as well.
"It's alright." She says with an emotionless expression, "You can let go of my hand now." She says looking down at their hands.
"Oh, sorry." He says trying to let go, but their hand are like they had been glued together. "What the? I can't let go."
Tabitha tries as well, "How strange?"
"Rito! Where have you been?" Louise shouts as she approaches them. She then sees that Rito and Tabitha are holding hands, "What are you doing with Tabitha?" She shouts furiously.
Rito jumps an inch when Louise shows up shouting, "It's not what it looks like." He defends holding his other hand out.
"Our hands got stuck together somehow when he bumped into me earlier." Tabitha says in a rather calm tone.
Louise looks at Tabitha then at their joined hands. She then glares at Rito then back to Tabitha and her eyes soften, "What kind of spell caused this and who cast it?" She asks.
"I don't know, I didn't hear anyone." Tabitha answers.
I think I know. Rito thinks looking the other direction, "In any case, I'm sure what ever happened will where-off by the end of the day, Hopefully." He says scratching his check with his free hand.
Louise glares at Rito, "Who asked you?" She then turns to Tabitha, "What do you think we should do, Tabitha?" She asks her.
"Right now we should go to class as it's about to start." She says walking away, pulling Rito along with her. Louise crosses her arms then follows after dropping them.
In the classroom, Tabitha, Rito, and Louise are sitting at a table together with Rito sitting between them, "Hmm, Kirche's not here. I wonder where she is." Rito says out loud looking around the room.
"Who cares where she is, I'm just glade she's not here." Louise says in an irritated tone with her arms crossed on the table.
Rito looks at Louise, "Hey, I've noticed that you and Kirche don't get along, what's up with that?" He asks her.
"Kirche's family, the Zerbst, and my family, the Vallière have been arch rivals for many generations. We can never ever get along with one another." She says sounding even more annoyed.
"Oh, so that's your relationship with her." Rito says looking away as the class gets started.
A few hours later the class ends and the other students leave, "I'm heading up to my room, you better return there as so as the effects of whatever the spell was wheres-off." She tells him as she gets up to leave.
Tabitha stands up causing Rito to stand as well. She then leads him outside the academy towards the outskirts of a forest, "Hey, where are we going?" Rito asks as he follows, as he has no choice.
"We're going to go see Sylphid." She tells him with no emotion in her voice.
"Who's Sylphid?" Rito asks.
"She's my Familiar, a rare Rhyme Dragon." She says.
"Dragon!?"
They reach the edge of the forest and Rito sees a large blue dragon laying under the trees and she sees them. As they approach she gets up, looks at she master then at the newcomer. She leans in and Rito leans back a little scared. She sniffs him, she eyes softens, and she licks his face then turns and lays back down. "I think she likes you." Tabitha says pulling out a book.
"You think?" He asks rubbing his head with his free hand.
Tabitha then sits down, forcing Rito too as well and they lean on the base of a large tree and she starts reading.
Several minutes of silence pass, Man, this silence is really making me nervous. I feel like I should say something. He thinks as he looks around. He then looks at Tabitha, "We haven't been properly introduced have we?" He asks, "My name's Rito." He says.
"Tabitha." She says. Silence falls on them again. Suddenly Tabitha move the book in front of Rito, "Turn the page." She says while holding the book so Rito could do what she asked.
"Hmm, okay." He says turning the left page.
"Other way." She corrects him.
"Oh, sorry." He then turns two pages to make up for it. He watches her move the book back and continue reading, So, she likes reading, just like someone else I know. He thinks while looking upward.
Tabitha looks over at Rito, He feels so warm. She thinks nudging closer. She then leans her head on his shoulder, I feel so much safer by him...
"Hey, Tabitha? Do you live anywhere nearby?" Rito asks snapping her out of her thoughts.
"No, I lived in Gallia, a country to the south." She tells him.
"Oh, so you're studying abode then?"
She nods, "Yes, it was ordered by my uncle, the King of Gallia."
"Uncle? Then you're..."
"Yes, I'm of royal blood." She says with little joy, "My father was the late Count Orleans.
Who was the younger brother of the current King of the realm, my uncle."
"So your father has passed away, I'm sorry for your lost." Rito says lowering his head.
"He was murdered." She says sadly.
"What?" Rito turns his head and looks at her in shock.
A few minutes later, "I feel like you are a good person, so I'll trust you with a very personal story." She says closing her eyes then reopening them.
"My father, despite being the second son of the family, was more adept as a mage than his brother and more intelligent. Furthermore, he was quite full of charisma and talent." She says. "Five years ago when my grandfather, the previous King passed away the palace court became bitterly divided over which of his sons was more worthy to take over the throne and rule as King." She tells him.
A battle for the crown. Rito thinks.
"During the course of this filthy battle my father was murdered by conspiracy." She then takes a breath. "Those who put my uncle on the throne, to rid themselves of future challenges next went after me." She says holding back her tears.
Rito looks at her with great concern.
"One evening my mother and I were invited to a banquet in a nobleman's home. I was ten, a man offered me a drink with a smile, but my mother saw that smile for what it truly was. She took the drink and drank it..." She pauses for a moment, "It was laced with a water magic poison that induces insanity to whoever drinks it..." She lowers her head, "That became public knowledge and the noble responsible for it was convicted." She take a deep breath. "My mother had sacrificed herself for me." She says lightly shedding a single tear. "Since the incident with my mother, no one has dared make another attempt on my life. However, the palace has been using my high magical abilities as reason to force me to perform difficult tasks that were dangerous and had slim chances of survival. But I was able to complete each and every unjust mission with great success." She says proudly. "In order to protect myself and my mother, I'll put my own life at risk." She then closes the book she was neglecting, "The palace, seeing that things weren't going according to plan, gave me the title of Chevalier and sent me to a foreign country as if they were trying to sweep away their problems."
Sweep away their problem. Rito thinks slamming his fist onto the ground, "Man, that really pisses me off!" He shouts waking Sylphid. He then feels electricity in his hand and it come loose from Tabitha's.
"There's nothing that can be done about it." She says. He seems greatly concerned of my past. She then notices that their hands are no longer stuck together. "Hmm, the spell seems to have worn off." She says.
"I see, then I guess I should get going." He says as he moves to stand, but is stopped by a tug on his shirt. He looks down to see Tabitha holding on to him.
"Wait, stay a bit longer." She asks looking up at him with innocent eyes.
Rito lowers and sits back down, "Hmm, okay. Just for a little while." He says as she rests her head on his shoulder, and on his face a light blush forms.
