Chapter 7: Caught
Anora was getting bored, fast. This wasn't so much exhausting as it was boring to death. She was an energetic Frost Giant and hated being still. It had challenged her during meetings back on Jotunheim and it challenged her now.
"Are we there yet?" She whined. Loki mentally groaned. Anora was like a young child! Then again, she was younger than him.
"No, we are not," Loki said crossly.
"Whennnnnnnnn?" Anora pouted.
"If you don't like it you can swim!" snapped the Asgardian finally. They were over the Atlantic and far away from any land or Loki might have dumped Anora overboard.
"I just might!"
"Go ahead then!" Anora shot him a rebellious glare and leapt overboard. Loki's eyes widened slightly and he leaned over the side. He certainly hadn't been expecting her to actually DO it! Anora waved up at him from where she was skating around on a frozen patch of ocean. After mentally sighing in relief, Loki glared at her and she stuck her tongue out at him. "Get back up here!"
"No!"
"Yes, you will!"
"No, I won't."
"And why not?"
"Because this is faster and more fun!" Anora shouted and to demonstrate, put her hands in the water and propelled her small iceberg away. Loki slapped his head with an open palm and followed. After another few hours, they reached the shores of Denmark and Loki used his magic to make the flying boat look like a normal fishing craft that had docked. Anora jumped onto the pier and her blue skin quickly faded into her human form. "What now?" she asked Loki.
"Why are you asking me? This was YOUR idea, Frost Giant!" Anora rolled her eyes at him.
"While that might be an insult on oh so mighty Ass-gard, to me that is a complement. And as you asked, yes I have some ideas. Come on." Loki grimaced. That had been a bad move on his part. He followed Anora and watched as she conversed in fluent Danish with several people in offices. After a while, Anora grinned and shook hands with a young woman who handed her a key.
"Apartment," she smirked, dangling the key from her finger as she walked by Loki. Loki grunted, unimpressed as Anora called a taxi and directed him to her new apartment. When they arrived, Anora opened the door and walked in. Both of them stopped and stared. "This is what I get for not seeing it first," Anora moaned. The color scheme was horrible (pink and blue) and the furniture was unbearably old lady. Loki winced and snapped his fingers. The room shimmered and instantly changed to more modern furniture and a gold and green color scheme. Anora's nose twitched ever so slightly.
"Much better," Loki said contentedly, sitting down on the couch.
"Lucky," Anora sighed enviously.
"Mhm?"
"You have Asgardian magic, I only have Jotun."
"I don't have Jotun."
"Asgardian is a lot more practical though. And a lot easier to hide." There was a note of bitterness in her voice as she sat at the kitchen bar. Loki looked over at her curiously and she felt compelled to explain further. "I won't deny that it was bad judgment on the part of my father to attack Midgard, but it was partially justified. Our population was growing very quickly and we needed to expand. Midgard seemed fairly useless, so Father chose to conquer that. It failed and I lost a brother, as I told you, but there were worse consequences. Every other realm shunned us so we were forced to become self sufficient. I could go around to the other realms occasionally because of my appearance, but their views of us were those of monsters and I never went back." Loki nodded sympathetically.
"I always lived in the shadow of my brother. I could never get Odin's approval because he was so obsessed with how great Thor was. I was never the son he wanted and obsessed over getting his approval. There was so much that I could do, but it wasn't what he wanted. My mother always loved and cared for me. Sometimes I think that she was the only one who cared for me." Anora nodded.
"Father said that Frigga stopped Odin from killing her and got him to spare my race, instead of utterly destroying it. No one else has ever stood up for us like that."
"Sounds like Mother," Loki chuckled. Anora's lips twitched before she chuckled. The two continued to chat before Anora commented about how they needed food. Loki offered to get it and before Anora could argue, teleported away. Anora grunted and lay down on the bed in one of the bedrooms. Her eyes closed and within a few minutes, fell asleep.
…
"Anora!" came a voice. Anora groaned and opened her eyes to see Loki.
"What Asgardian?" she complained, sitting up.
"I have to tell you something."
"Couldn't it WAIT?"
"No."
"Oh Odin, fine." She sat up and looked at him. She hated getting woken up. "What?"
"I've been lying to you."
"Oh surprise. What about? Your weapons? Your magic? Your family?"
"Last one. You remember when you told me about your brother that vanished?" Anora nodded. "Well, I'm not Asgardian. I'm Jotun. Odin took me from the temple when I was a child and raised me as his son. I'm your brother." Anora looked at him, unconvinced. "I'm serious."
"Uh-huh," she said. "I can tell." Loki held out his hand. "Now what? A handshake?"
"No. Turn Jotun and grab my arm."
"What, no!"
"Do it, I'll be fine!" Anora threw back her head and stared at the ceiling. She exhaled angrily and her form slowly turned blue and her eyes red. She slowly reached out and took Loki's outstretched hand. She expected a hiss of pain, and when it didn't come, she looked at him and gasped, quickly dropping his hand.
"You…" she squeaked. "You're…you are one of us!" Loki nodded, his skin fading back to normal without her contact.
"Aye. I am."
"AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME HIS BEFORE BECAUSE WHY NOW?!" she screamed.
"You would have accused me of lying."
"DAMN RIGHT I WOULD HAVE SO WHY TELL ME NOW?!"
"Because…because I am starting to care for you." Anora's eyes doubled in size and she scrambled away from him.
"OH MY GOD LOKI GROSS EW AFTER WHAT YOU JUST TOLD ME NO WAY I MEAN…!" Loki snapped his fingers and she went silent although her mouth continued to move.
"That is not what I meant. I meant that I no longer wish to deceive you because I am starting to appreciate you for yourself." Anora didn't look very convinced, not that Loki could blame her. She held her face in her hands and just shook.
"Oh god," she whispered. "How?"
"And there's something else. I also killed Laughey." Anora's shaking stopped and she slowly lifted her head.
"What did you say?"
"I killed Laughey." Anora stared at him and slowly, her eyes began to boil with rage, hurt, and despair. She stood and her skin turned slowly blue.
"I was actually starting to trust you," she snarled. "I was actually beginning to care for you and now…" A jagged shard of ice encased her hand and she examined it. "And now you must die for what you have done." She raised her arm and something was tossed in the window and began to smoke. Anora and Loki both spun and began coughing. Men in black came in through the door and window. Anora collapsed to her knees and gasped for air before falling unconscious. Loki wasn't far behind, collapsing onto the bed in a very undignified manner. One of the men picked up the still smoking device and put it into a black bag before walking over to the window and pulling off his face mask. He pulled out a phone and pressed a button before putting it to his ear.
"This is Agent Ward," he said. "Director Fury," he turned and faced the two unconscious figures in the room. "We have them."
So…yeah. That might be a little fast paced…sorry. (shifts nervously) So yeah, hope you guys liked it, read, review, follow, favorite, critique, etc! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
