A/N: This is going to be a lot longer than I ever intended, but I'm writing this via the "fly by the seat of your pants method", and I just keep getting new ideas, so...here ya go. Enjoy!
Scene 10
The scene opens where we left off, with VIGGO, MAC and GRIFF all listening in to ALLEGRA and MOBY'S conversation.
ALLEGRA'S VOICE: Uh...is everything all right? You seem really freaked out-
MOBY'S VOICE: Don't play dumb with me, love. I know you know what's goin' on.
ALLEGRA'S VOICE: Do I seem like I know what's going on? (brief pause) Jesus, would you quit giving me that look? You're starting to scare me!
GRIFF: Wow, she's a good actor.
MAC and VIGGO: Shh!
The screen flashes in order to show the interior of Moby's car.
MOBY: Well, if you're gonna be that way, then maybe I oughta refresh your memory. (He steps hard on the accelerator, and the car lurches forward.)
ALLEGRA: Oh my God. Moby, slow down!
MOBY: So last night, Psymon'n me decided to put a lil' prank of ours into action. Nothin' serious-
ALLEGRA: Did you not hear what I said? SLOW THE FUCK DOWN! You're going to get us killed!
MOBY: Somehow, though, Nate and his little cop mates happened to find out about it—you do know that Nate is a cop, don't you? (He looks at her carefully for a moment, and when she doesn't answer, he glances down and notices that she has a small electronic device clipped to her belt.) What am I even sayin'? Of course you do. (He snatches the device in one swipe, rolls down his window, and throws it out.)
ALLEGRA: (She takes a deep, shuddering breath.) Um, why did you just throw my beeper out the window?
MOBY: That wasn't a beeper, love. Quit tryin' to fool with me.
ALLEGRA: Well if it wasn't a beeper, then what do you think it was?
MOBY: I dunno, but I'm sure that whatever it was, it had more than a little somethin' to do with Nate and the police.
ALLEGRA: (calmly) I hate to break it to you, Moby, but I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.
MOBY: Bullshit. (He presses harder on the accelerator, and the car speeds up.)
ALLEGRA: Moby. You're going almost 80 miles an hour—in the city! Do you even realize-
MOBY: I can go even faster if you want.
ALLEGRA: You're insane!
MOBY: Was that a "go faster?"
ALLEGRA: STOP IT! (Her cell phone starts ringing.)
MOBY: If you think you're answerin' that, then you're out of your goddamn mind.
ALLEGRA: It's a text, not a call.
MOBY: It don't matter. (He speeds around several cars, who honk at them as they pass.)
ALLEGRA: Oh my God. I really hope there's a cop zoning somewhere around here. Then they can throw your ass in jail for attempted murder and reckless driving-
MOBY: So you admit that you know about what happened last night.
ALLEGRA: (She blinks at him, remaining silent.)
MOBY: All right, how 'bout we make a deal? Give me your phone and I'll slow down to a more normal speed.
ALLEGRA: Not a chance.
MOBY: All righty, then. (He slowly starts to accelerate.)
ALLEGRA: You're a fucking maniac, you know that? (She sighs in defeat.) Fine. Here. (She throws her phone at him.)
MOBY: (He gradually slows the car down to a more normal speed.) Now then, let's see what this text message of yours is all about. (He opens her phone.)
ALLEGRA: Hey! Watch the damn road!
MOBY: It's from Mac. It says: "Allegra, this is Griff. Are you okay? We just lost the signal, and we can't hear a word you and Moby are saying anymore. Viggo is about to have a heart attack. Reply ASAP." (He snaps the phone shut.) Well then, that just confirms that you were lying to me.
ALLEGRA: (She does not look at him.)
MOBY: That thing I just threw out the window was a tracking device, wasn't it?
ALLEGRA: (She stays silent.)
MOBY: Remember that I'm the one driving, love. It really is in your best interest to answer me.
ALLEGRA: No. It was a transmission device. Kind of like a walkie-talkie.
MOBY: And just how many people were listening in on our conversation?
ALLEGRA: A few.
MOBY: A few? As in...three? Five? Ten? The entire MCPD?
ALLEGRA:(Her lips are pursed.) You know, Moby, I always used to think you were a decent guy. You were outgoing and friendly, and were very welcoming to me and the other rookies last season. But now I know that, beneath it all, you're really no different from any of the other assholes that I've known. (She chuckles humorlessly.) No, actually, you're worse, way worse; you're a murderous, psychopathic-
MOBY: Murderous? (He looks amused.) You think I'm going to murder you? Is that it?
ALLEGRA: I don't know what you're going to do, and that, honestly, is what's scaring me the most right now.
MOBY: (He pauses for a very long time.) I'm not going to kill you, Allegra.
ALLEGRA: Well that's a relief. God, I can't believe this is even happening. For the record, Moby, I think you're making way too big of a deal out of this whole thing. You can't get into that much trouble for what happened last night. If anybody is going to have to do time for it, it's gonna be Psymon, not you.
MOBY: Can you guarantee that?
ALLEGRA: Well...no, but-
MOBY: Exactly.
ALLEGRA: You're thinking about skipping town. I can see it in your eyes every time you look at the road.
MOBY: You're not wrong.
ALLEGRA: Right. Well, can I make a suggestion? Don't.
MOBY: (He frowns.)
ALLEGRA: I'm serious. Think of how much bigger the consequences will be if you run.
MOBY: I'm not runnin'. I just need some time to clear me head.
ALLEGRA: Right. You also seem to be forgetting the fact that I'm in your car with you-
MOBY: Oh no, that would be impossible to forget.
ALLEGRA: I'm just saying. If you don't take me back, Viggo and the others will report me missing. Then, eventually, when they find us, they'll throw you in jail for kidnapping. Because I will tell them that you kidnapped me.
MOBY: (He sighs heavily.) Go to sleep, love.
ALLEGRA: What? As if I am in any state of mind to-
MOBY: (He takes a small vial out of his pocket and holds it under nose. Then, just like that, Allegra's eyes close, and her head falls back against the seat.)
