Chapter Ten
[Sophia POV]
"Are we there yet?" I ask.
I'd been squirming under the prince's hold for a bit; his large hand was draped over my eyes for the longest time. We were walking slowly in an attempt to keep me from bumping into things, but when I felt his chest on my back, vibrating from a small chuckle, there was no doubt in my mind that we weren't close. "Almost, just hang on." He said.
I let out a small sigh, my anxiousness getting the better of me. "What is it that you're taking me to go see again?"
He laughed. "I told you, it's a surprise."
I blushed slightly, feeling my fingertips graze the hem of my knee-length dress. "Sorry," I apologized. "I'm just so..nervous." I shake my head at the confession. "Why, are you not fond of surprises?" David asked me.
"Well, I don't get them too often, but I don't like the idea of not knowing, you know?.." I rambled. I could almost feel him shrug his shoulders. "Yeah, kind of. Not knowing something sort of bugs me too. It's like when I first found out about the Selection," He chuckled. I raised my brow.
"The Selection?"
"Yup," David breathed. "My parents told me it was going to be an opportunity for me to find the one I love."
"Wow," I couldn't control my chuckle. "That sounds like a lot of pressure to put on a teenager."
"Trust me, it was, and still is." David continued. "It bugged me wondering for so long what the girl would look like, what she would talk like.."
"Hmm, and do you think you may have met her yet?" I ask obliviously.
"Maybe," He said, his voice almost lowering to a whisper. By then, I could've sworn something touched the back of my hand, but with my eyes closed, I could barely even tell what direction I was in. "But only time will tell if she's the actual one for me."
I nodded at his answer, feeling my curls move at my shoulders. "What a very sophisticated answer, David." I smile lightly. "Thank you, I try." He laughed.
After just a few more moments of walking, David and I had finally come to a stop. I felt his hand move away from my eyes and I blinked them open, finding myself staring at a door. I gave a slight giggle. "What, is this the surprise?" I joke, hearing the prince's boyish laughter. "No, Sophia," He shook his head at me, twisting the door's knob. "This is.."
My eyes widened at the room before me. Violins were scattered neatly about the wall on shelves, cellos were placed neatly in their posts in the far corner, and a grand piano was sitting only feet away, but surprisingly, the room was spacious enough for just about twenty dancers. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I look over my shoulder at David. "What..is this?" I asked him.
"This is the Music Room. Well, my Mother's presumably." David replied as he pulled me further into the room. "Isn't this a nice surprise?" He asked me, a teasing smile crossing his face. I nodded wordlessly as I walked about the room. My eyes scanned each intricately designed violin that sat upon the shelves, their structure captivating me completely.
"This is all so beautiful.." I spoke breathtakingly, sitting down at the piano stool. "Yes, that's why I was surprised to hear you liked classical music. It's..one of the few things I love to make." David sat beside me, his face a bright pink.
"Really?" I turn to him, watching him nod. "Would you mind playing?"
He snickered, his fingers lightly touching the keys of the instrument. "I don't see why I can't.." His tone was slightly hesitant, like he was nervous to play in front of me. It was cute.
I watched intently as David's skillful fingers ran across the keys, melodic sounds emanating from it in response. The song sounded familiar, like I've heard it somewhere before. It was on the tip of my tongue, I just couldn't say it.. "Oh," David abruptly stopped, his eyes staring at the expensive wrist watch on his right arm. "I'm sorry to end this so shortly, but I have to go now," He said, standing from his seat. "Many princely things to attend to.."
David held out a hand for me and I took it, disappointment clouding my insides. "Oh it's alright, I understand." I said dismissively.
"But I would like to continue this tomorrow, if you're okay with that.." He suggested, placing his other hand over mine. I nod with a smile. "I would like that," I reply. "Thank you, again, for this lovely surprise."
David smiles boyishly before rubbing the back of his neck. "..You're welcome. Come on, I'll walk you back to your room." He said, and we were off.
Hi everyone, sorry again for the short chapter. I don't have much time to write a lot of stuff right now. But hopefully I will be able to soon. Stay tuned!
