Chapter 10
Recap
The doors of the elevator opened as he got off when he saw her, at first he thought it was an illusion but as she went to get on the elevator he grabbed her wrist. The skin touching skin, confirming his mind that she was in fact real. What was she doing here? He had wanted to see her and here she was standing in front of him so without hesitation he wrapped himself around her, wanting to truly confirm that she really was there
0ooooOoooo0
Su Jin stood there stiffly not sure what was going on as the unknown pair of arms stayed wrapped around her.
"Pogoshipta" (I missed you) the voice whispered softly
Su Jin rapidly blinked her eyes in surprise, she knew that voice. It belonged to…. Choi Young Do, what was he doing right now? Was he drunk? Maybe high? Su Jin although slightly wary of his current mental state let her body relax against him, slowly bringing up her arms and softly patting him on the back in an attempt to comfort him.
Choi Young Do continued to immerse himself in the comfort and calmness that he was feeling due to the small figure infront of him. He just couldn't wrap his head around the fact that she was here, exactly when he had needed her. He couldn't understand how her presence made him feel so relaxed and… safe, how she was always there without him having said anything.
"No geunchana? (you alright?) Su Jin questioned softly as she slowly pushed away from him to look at his face having forgotten her own issues. She noticed the renewed bruise on his face and instantly her softness transformed into frustration.
"What the hell?!" she exclaimed as she grabbed his face and turned it to the side to get a better look at the bruise. Surprisingly Choi Young Do had made no move to avoid the contact unlike his reflex before when Rachel's mum had attempted to reach out for it.
"Seriously I leave you for what? 4 hours and this is what happens?"
If there was anything that drew him to her it was that she never once looked at him with pity or any sort of fear. He was tired of seeing that look from everyone even Cha Eun Sang would not stop. Maybe that's why he continues to provoke or play with Kim Tan because no matter what Kim Tan has never looked at him in those ways either.
Except that one time, suddenly images from that day when he had lost his mum flashed forward as he saw the look of pity in Kim Tan's young face.
"I ACTUALLY cannot believe you! I feel like the mother of an impossible child. I swear if I ever have a kid like you I'll never be able to sleep." She said as she crossed her arms and glared at him in distaste,
He loved the way she reprimanded him because to him it showed genuine care. A normal reaction is to console but all she does is tell him off and it does nothing to make him feel guilty, instead he feels almost elated. After all anger and frustration are genuine emotions that are difficult to fake. In a way he considered her a sort of mother figure for him, always there to stop him from doing the wrong thing and scolding him if he did.
Su Jin grabbed his arm as she dragged him in the direction of the door.
"Hurry up and open it before I break it. I can't believe you." She glared at him
"Well maybe you shouldn't have left me then." Choi Young Do said nonchalantly as he unlocked his door.
"Don't worry I'm not gonna make the same mistake twice. I'm not going to leave you by yourself again."
Choi Young Do could not tell if Su Jin was joking around or whether she actually knew what she was saying but none the less the words that had just come out of her was something he was going to hold her up to. If she left him he would hunt her down and challenge her for saying something that she couldn't keep.
"You want to tell me what the hell happened?" Su Jin question as she followed him in.
"Are you sure you want to know?" Choi Young Do smirked as he went into to his bedroom and opened his closet, to change out of his kitchen duty uniform while Su Jin sat down on the coach.
"Probably not… how about you just tell me who did that to you?"
Suddenly Su Jin remembered why she had come here originally, she quickly stood up and ran over to Young Do.
"Actually I was wondering if I …." Su Jin froze at the scene in front of her,
Choi Young Do stood facing away from her shirtless, but it wasn't the lack of shirt that made her stop but the visible lines that marred his milky white skin. She could feel her arms shaking as she immediately ducked behind the wall as Choi Young Do went to turn around. Su Jin scrunched her eyebrows, how was it possible for someone like him to have scars like that? She flexed her fingers into a tight fist, who would do something like that? The marks on his back, scars that had settled down, sinking into the skin. Su Jin staggered her way back to the sofa as she plopped herself down. What the hell had this guy been through?
"What were you saying?" Choi Young Do asked, surprising Su Jin as he placed himself next to her on the sofa as he turned on the tv.
"Ah..um." she swallowed hard, "who did that to you?" she said pointing to the bruise,
"Why, will you go scold them for me?" he asked grinning,
"Yes I will."
"My father." He winked at her
"Does…does he hit you often?" Su Jin asked, remembering the last time she was here. Choi Young Do's expression changed from playful to a blank face, his smirk disappearing as he turned to face the tv. After a long silence, "it's not anything new." was all he answered with.
Su Jin decided to lighten the mood before she suffocated from the thickness of the atmosphere, "you know I feel like a baby sitter, I think you should start paying me for it."
Su Jin realised that it sounded like she was being forced to be friends with him, but before she could fix her mistakes Choi Young Do let out a breath as he smirked at her.
"But I never asked you to, you volunteered yourself because you find my company so enjoyable."
"Y-ya! Don't just make up your own conclusions! I should have never come. Aish!" she crossed her arms as she faced away from him,
"So then why are you here?" Choi Young Do asked as he turned to her, his interest peaking as to what made her come here.
"Oh.. uh.. I was wondering if I could… stay here today? I know it's not right! But I seriously have no one else to go to and I don't want to go home right now."
"Yea sure. You can sleep in there." He said pointing to the bedroom without even a second thought,
"What? No, I'll sleep here."
"Just take the bedroom."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Why do you never accept it when someone tries to help you?!"
"Why can't you just accept that they don't need your help instead of forcing their gratification."
"You're the one who asked for my help!" Choi young do said, their voices rising with each comment.
"Well next time I won't!"
"Fine." Choi young do huffed as he got up and walked to his bedroom.
"Fine!" Su Jin shouted at his retreating back, after a few seconds of fuming she lay her head back on the sofa as she closed her eyes. Why was she so riled up? He was just trying to help. She opened her eyes as her stomach let out a gurgling sound. She slowly made her way to the kitchen as she searched for something to eat but there was nothing sustaining anywhere.
"I think I'll order take away." She mumbled to herself and pulled out her phone, dialing the number.
"Yoboseoyo?" (hello)
"Ah I would like to order one jajangmyeon."
"Sure, anything else?"
"Actually make that two please?"
"De(yes) that will be $9"
"Kamsahmida." (thankyou)
Su Jin shut the phone as she went to her bag and pulled out her wallet to get the money ready, well that's awkward, only $3. Su Jin stood there biting her lip as she stared at the wallet debating on whether she should ask Young Do or not.
15 minutes later..
"Choi Young Do." Su Jin grumbled as she walked into his room, after having spent some time debating and mustering the courage to approach him. She stood at the door way as she observed his sleeping figure. She slowly made her way towards him as she kneeled down in front of him.
"Ya." She whispered as she softly shook him a few times for which she got no reply,
After a long pause she started talking, "mianhae(sorry), It's not that I am not grateful when people help me…. I just don't like relying on others. If it is possible for me to do something without getting others involved then I will. So… don't be mad and komawo (thankyou)…. Also this may look like what I said just now was to butter you up but I was being completely honest so I was just wondering if you could pay for the food that I ordered… I would pay! But I only have $3." Choi Young Do still gave no reply.
She continued to sit there silently as she watched his face, she was going to sit there until he gave her a response or the delivery guy arrived. She watched him a bit longer an urge to run her fingers along his eyes, she had always found his eyes interesting. The way they were shaped and the way they displayed the intensity behind them. Since he hadn't replied even once or made any movement he was ignoring her or actually sleeping. So she figured there was no harm as she slowly brought her hand up towards his face, merely millimeters away from the lids of his eyes. She lightly ran her fingers along the base of the eye lid where his eyelashes outlined his eyes, moving onto the skin of the eye lid that felt soft beneath her fingertips as she very lightly brushed them across in attempt to not wake him up from her exploring. Her hand started to gradually move on its own accord as it reached over and placed it self on his bruise slowly brushing down, the warm softness of his cheek flowing through her senses. Suddenly the bell rang which made Su Jin jump as she rushed to open the door before he woke up.
"Delivery for Park Su Jin." The guy at the door said as he held up a large metal box,
"De, choyeo. (yes that's me)"she said as the guy got the meals out of the container and handed it to her which she quickly placed on a nearby table
"That will be $9."
Su Jin tensed for a second, "truth is… I only have $3 so is it ok if I pay that now and the rest later? Or even tomorrow? I'll even give you my name and contact number if you won't believe me. Is that ok?"
The guy scrunched his face in a disapproving look before looking her up and down, "but you're staying in a luxury hotel … how can you not have $4 more dollars?"
Crap he had a point
"I seriously have no money."
"If you're going to be this cheap I'm just going to take the meals back." The guy said as he made a step to try and get in.
Suddenly an arm extended out form over Su Jin's shoulder holding a $10 note, "here. Keep the change." He said before shutting the door in the guy's face.
Choi Young Do had in fact been awake the entire time, hearing everything she said and conscious of everything she did. He hadn't expected her to apologise and say thank you but he had also definitely not expected her to touch him. He was going to open his eyes to startle her and ask her what the hell she was doing but the feel of her fingertips brushing across, her gentle caress. He just couldn't bring himself to stop her. He had intended to give her the money when she had originally asked but decided to watch her suffer a little in front of the delivery boy before ending her embarrassment.
Before Su Jin could say anything he lightly threw his wallet onto the round table and walked into the kitchen. Su Jin slowly picked up his wallet and opened it in order to put her $3 in there and promise him to pay the other $4 later. I thought he was sleeping? But before she could do that something caught her eye. There in front of her was a picture of Choi Young Do as a young boy next to a smiling young woman as she hugged him from behind. She brought the picture closer to her so she could examine it better.
So this is what he looked like when he was young…
"Why have you never shown me this picture?" Su Jin asked curiously
It took Choi Young Do a few seconds to realise what she was referring to her before he almost sprinted in her direction in order to get his wallet back and as a natural instinct Su Jin made a run for it behind the sofa. The two playing a cat and mouse game, every step one took being mimicked by the other in reverse.
"Ya put that down otherwise you'll regret it."
"Please. I was just going to say how adorable you were as a child." Su Jin said a sly grin on her face,
Choi Young Do literally stepped over the coach as he quickly cornered her to one side of the room, slowly approaching her, a predator stalking its prey. Su Jin noticing her situation placed both her arms behind her back as she looked for a way out.
"And how beautiful what I'm guessing your mo…." Su Jin stopped speaking as her back hit the wall, Choi Young Do merely a meter away as Myungsoo's words replayed in her head.
Choi Young Do stepped forward taking away the distance between them as he slammed his hands on either side of her head, his body almost pressed completely against her.
"I told you to put it down." A glare in his eyes as he looked down at Su Jin, his breathing coming out heavily.
