I'm so very sorry people! I've had ridiculous writers block and a number of unfortunate situations and pieces of news have made it difficult for me to get in the zone. PLEASE DON'T HATE ME! I hope this piece somewhat makes up for it, and hopefully I will be on time with another chapter next weekend.
The ship was crippled; the intruders were quick and effective in their assault, swiftly disabling the helm and weapons, and then beaming back to their own crafts before they were even noticed.
Unable to retreat or fight back, the Enterprise was penned in by two unidentified ships, one in front and the other at the back. The only thing known of their intent was that it was clearly unsavoury.
The Command Crew had pulled every trick they could think of, to no avail.
Both enemy vessels had locked weapons on the defenceless ship and would be fully operational in only a matter of minutes.
Even with all of the geniuses and prodigies on board, it was clear that their ship would be destroyed before someone could regain control over their necessary functions.
Captain James Tiberius Kirk was severely irritated by the turn of events. I mean, it was bad enough that he and his crew were going to die, but this wasn't even a heroic and epic situation!
This was not the blaze of glory he had imagined them all going out in. And judging by the expressions on the faces of his Command crew, they were thinking along the same lines.
He turned once again to his loyal First Officer.
"There's absolutely no way we can regain control before we're shot?"
"Realistically, no Captain. Even with Mister Scott's admirable efforts in engineering, it appears unlikely that we shall prevail in this confrontation." Hidden in the deceptively monotonous voice was the mirrored irritation and disappointment of his superior.
Just like Kirk, Spock didn't like to lose.
"Well, shit," Kirk sighed, rubbing his eyes wearily. "Well, it's been a pleasure and a privilege working with you all. I couldn't ask for a better crew. It's been an honour."
Similar sentiments were expressed throughout the helm before Kirk preformed a ship wide announcement and informed the rest of the crew as to their fate. Thanking them and apologising about the situation sincerely.
Silence fell as everyone took their seats, awaiting their fate with upmost professionalism and bravery.
And then it hit him with the speed and strength of a raging Klingon.
He had always loved old 20th century films; it was somewhat a guilty pleasure of his, and at this moment, a manoeuvre from a series he had adored as a child had popped into his head and given him an idea.
It was undoubtedly a long shot, but in his mind, it was better than just giving up and accepting defeat like a bunch of docile cows.
"Hold up!" he yelled, startling everyone present.
Leaping to his feet, he charged to one side of the helm before pushing off from the wall and sprinting to the other.
When he showed no signs of stopping, the rest of the crew came to the conclusion that he had officially lost it.
"Um, Captain?" Sulu began calmly, dark eyes following Kirk's progress like a tennis match. "What exactly are you doing?"
Kirk stopped suddenly as he remembered that Sulu knew the film too; they had discussed it once when they were fencing and then proceeded to watch it and the others in the series while getting drunk that same night.
"Up is down Sulu! Up is down!" he cried, before continuing his strange actions.
It was almost comical. Sulu's face was first the epitome of confusion, before his eyes widened and he scanned the helm. He turned slightly to check the positions of the ships and the likely target of their weapons, before giving a disbelieving laugh.
"With all due respect Sir, you're completely nuts! However, that's the best plan we've got." And with that, he got up, waited for Kirk to get to his side of the helm before he joined in.
Pavel exclaimed loudly as he understood, leaping to his feet and join the other two, to the confusion of the other crewmembers.
"Captain, I do not believe that now is a valid time for you to be indulging your childish side," Spock declared, his calm voice contrasting greatly against the illogical actions.
"Once again, Mister Spock, you are wrong," Kirk panted as he passed the Vulcan. "There is logic behind my actions. We have no power to the helm, so we can't move out of the line of fire, but there's still a chance we can get out of this alive if we have everybody's cooperation!"
A spark of understanding, mild amusement, and dare Kirk say, pride, ignited in Spock's dark eyes.
"You mean to utilize the entire crew to manually overturn the ship."
"Yes, Mister Spock, I do. The way I see it, we have limited options and little time, but if all goes to plan, their attack should miss and with a bit of luck, hit the opposite ship."
Spock quickly turned to a small group of Ensigns who were watching the developments with anxious faces.
"Go to all departments and tell everyone to begin rocking the ship, as quickly as you can."
They scurried off with squeaks of "Yes Sir!" Then, with the upmost dignity, Spock and Nyota joined in the growing crowd of people running from side to side.
In a short amount of time, there was a noticeable effect. It was becoming increasingly difficult to get to the opposite side, the incline of the floor becoming steeper as the ship tilted. At the wall, everyone waited until Kirk gave the word and then bolted to the other side.
Suddenly, the ship was at the tipping point, completely on its side. The floor fell from their feet and it was all they could do to grab hold of any consoles within reach and hold on to everyone else.
With an ominous creak, the ship breached the pivotal point just as the enemy ships fired.
With screams and whoops ringing in his ears, and his crew all joined hands in a chain, Kirk could not resist. "And now up, is down!" He cried in exhilaration.
The weapons soared in between the Nacelles as the Enterprise accelerated to complete its full rotation. Without their intended target separating the smaller vessels, the opposing shot stuck each ship, causing major damage to both, if not destroying them outright.
Unfortunately, now that the major threat was neutralised, they were quickly brought back to the current predicament. Once past the halfway point, the anchoring grips on consoles and handholds failed and the entire crew hit the real floor once again with relative force.
Buried in a heap of tangled limbs and groaning bodies, Kirk fought to get to the furiously chirping Comm. by his chair.
"GODDAMMIT JIM! NEXT TIME YOU WANNA IMITATE DANGEROUS MOVIE STUNTS, AT LEAST GIVE ME A HEAD'S UP FIRST! MY DAMN MEDBAY'S IN SHAMBLES AND YOU, YOU DAMN APE, ARE THE ONE THAT'S GUNNA PAY!"
Yeah, so this one is heavily based on film that I'm sure most of you will have recognised. I love that scene and have recently brought the track that goes with it. For some reason I did see this happening on the Enterprise, but then again, my mind is a strange and dangerous place.
Hope you enjoyed, please review! :)
