I told ya'll this chapter would come wayyy sooner than the last one did. :)

Chapter 10
Break-ins

"Aly!"

The sound of her father's voice made her jump and the blonde rolled her eyes before telling Jacob that she would see him later, ending the call and tossing the phone on her bed before she slid down the railing. Charlie was waiting at the foot of the stairs and though he rolled his eyes she could tell from the twitch of his mustache that he found it amusing that she still had no problem keeping the rails polished simply so she could slid down them. Jumping off as she came to the end she landed gracefully on the balls of her slipper clad feet with a large smile and dramatic bow which she was glad made him chuckle before looking up and raising her eyebrow at him.

"You look so much like Kenny when you do that." He sighed shaking his head before smiling again, "You up for the diner tonight?"

While she knew that it would mean cancelling her plans with Nicole and Brianna, the blonde nodded not one to turn down a meal that she didn't have a hand in preparing or a chance to spend some time with her father. Between everything going on with the pack, the council and the murders of three hitchhikers, she and Charlie hadn't been able to spend too much time together in the last few weeks. Their pre-set plans of going out to eat every Friday night had been put on hold for the last three weeks and she didn't like it any more than he did.

"Is Bella coming?" She asked, slipping off her house shoes and pulling on her sneakers, knowing that when Charlie asked if you wanted to do something he meant within the next twenty minutes.

"No, I think she's at the Cullen's….again."

Alyssa could tell that he'd meant to be indifferent about it but the fact that he looked down, avoiding eye contact and the disappointment in his voice meant that he was hurt that her sister was spending so little time with him. In the time that she'd lived with them the younger Swan was almost positive that Bella had spent so little time with Charlie that it was almost as if she was living with the Cullen's and only visiting. She made a mental note to have a little conversation with the older girl before grabbing her jacket and asking which car they were taking, not surprised at all that her father wanted to take the cruiser, he was once again on call.

By the time they had made it to the diner it was almost sunset and Alyssa could feel a pair of eyes watching her, though she wasn't sure who they belonged to since whoever it was, was watching from a distance. She was almost positive it was one of the pack members so she shrugged it off and simply hoped that whoever it was, they weren't out by themselves with the threat of James still so fresh in their minds. Pushing thoughts of the supernatural away as best she could she chose to focus on her father, who was informing her that the latest event, a small forest fire near the trail she loved to hike so much, had been intentional and they were simply waiting for the results of the fingerprints that they'd taken off the BIC lighter to come back.

"I don't understand people." She sighed, taking a sip from her root beer.

"Me either. So, how's school? Anyone asked you to the fair yet?"

His question made her realize that in the last three weeks they'd seen so little of each other that she hadn't been able to tell him the news that she knew he'd been waiting the better part of four years to hear. Before Jacob had phased for the first time and cut her out of his life, Charlie was always annoying her with questions about when the two of them would start dating and leave all the 'we're just friends' stuff in the past. He didn't know that Jacob had slammed the door in her face, just that they had grown apart and she knew that as soon as she told him, his mustache would twitch and even if his mouth didn't his eyes would smile.

"Actually, I've been meaning to tell you that…um…me and Jake are kind of dating now."

"Finally!" He whooped with a laugh and she could only duck her head as she felt the heat of a blush spread across her face, "So, how long? Is it serious? Of course it's serious you two have been in love with each other since puberty."

"You're no better than Brianna and Nicole!" She laughed throwing her balled up napkin at him shaking her head.

"Am I lying?" He asked simply with a chuckle to which she could only roll her eyes and shake her head at.

With everything else that she had going on, she had forgotten just how much she loved spending time with her dad and the fact that while he was her father, he could be just as entertaining as the boys she was spending most of her time with. At the same time he had no problem putting all that aside and being the stern cop of a father that could come down on her quicker than if Thor let go of his hammer. It was what she loved about him that even though she wasn't his biological daughter, he'd never treated her any different than he'd treated Bella, except the fact that he was probably better with the blonde since she had grown up with him and he knew her better.

By the time they were finished with their meals and desert, Alyssa was more than ready for a good night's sleep thought she knew that she wouldn't get one because Jacob was on patrol duty on the north side of La Push. She had discovered that when he wasn't near her at night she couldn't sleep as soundly as she should have and that no matter how many blankets were piled on top of her, she'd remain chilly until she saw him in the morning. When it had happened the first time she had figured it was simply because she was getting sick, when she realized it was the nights that he had to patrol the beaches she's called Emily who had explained it to her and promised that the longer they were together the less intense it would be.

"Dad, why don't you date?" She asked, the question had barely formed in her mind before she heard herself saying it out loud.

"Well, I have a crazy energetic daughter that I've had to keep up with for the last seventeen years and I'm the police chief of a small town that only had ten officers."

"I just…I want you to be happy. If you're happy by yourself that's fine but if you feel like you want to start dating, you should, you know? I've noticed how Karen at the grocery store looks at you." She smiled.

"Karen? No…"

"Dad, she totally has the hot's for you. Seriously, next time we're there, ask for her number or something. I bet you a hundred dollars she gives it to you without question."

"Hello?"

At the silence that greeted her, Bella realized that no one was home or if they were they couldn't hear her and she took a deep breath before peaking her head in her sisters room, ready for the raised eyebrow she usually received. Not seeing the blonde the brunette took a step back as she took in the room, her sister was in no way a neat freak but there was no way that she would let her room get as disastrous as it was at the moment. The messiest she'd ever seen the room was dirty clothes on the floor or a few dishes left in random spots never had she seen the room look like it had been completely ransacked.

Pulling out her cell phone she dialed Edward's phone number, knowing that no matter what may be happening he'd be able to use his preternatural sense to tell if it was simply a human that had done it or something from their world. After hanging up the phone she wasn't surprised when not three seconds later he was standing in the bathroom taking deep breaths. She opened her mouth to question him but was silenced by the single finger he raised, telling her he was concentrating on something, pouting she waited for him to open his eyes and look at her.

"Wouldn't it be easier to actually go in the room?" She asked.

"Maybe but, if I actually went in, my fresh scent would cover James' and Jacob would think it was me when he comes over tonight."

"I'm pretty sure he can tell whose scent is whose." Bella said pulling out her cell again.

"Hey Dad. Look, don't freak out okay? I just got home but I think someone broke in and went through Al-" Before she could so much as finish her sentence her father told her not to move and she heard him flip on the sirens, telling Alyssa to hold on.

Five minutes later a pissed off looking Charlie and a terrified Alyssa were walking up the stairs to the porch, Charlie was on his phone but the blonde seemed to stop at the door, eyes wide and filled with tears. Her father blew past her and up the stairs to check out the scene but her sister still hadn't stepped in the house and Bella realized that she was scared to enter, her room and her belongings had been disrespected and some of them destroyed. It was obvious through her blue-grey eyes that her mind was going a million miles a minute trying to think of who it could have been that would so blatantly violate her privacy like that.

"Aly?" Bella asked quietly as she watched realization dawn in the blonde's eyes who blinked a few times before shaking her head and following Charlie up the stairs.

Taking a deep breath as she looked around her room, Alyssa shook her head and wondered exactly why it was that James had chosen her but that was quickly solved since it all came down to location. Emily and Kim both lived on the reservation that now had twenty four hour patrols, in fact Kim lived just five minutes from Paul and Emily and Sam had been living together for the last year and a half. She was the easiest target since it took the wolves at least ten minutes to run the circuit that included her house and even though she was grateful that she was included in it, she wished that someone would have been there to catch the bloodsucker.

It had been at least an hour and a half since Bella had called and told them what had happened and she had yet to so much as get a peek inside to see what kind of mess she would have to clean up. The fact that it was almost ten o'clock and she wanted to make it to Emily's by at least eight was wiped from her plans as she realized she wouldn't be able to get to bed until one, at the earliest and probably wouldn't be to Emily's or Second Beach until about eleven. Thinking about time she realized that it was nearly time for Jacob to show up at her window and closed her eyes knowing that once he showed up she would have to explain and that he would be just as, if not more, upset than Charlie had been and still was.

"What's going on?" Her boyfriend's voice asked as he walked to the front porch where he'd obviously known he was, she didn't have to answer because his eyes narrowed and he turned so that his ear was closer to the door, allowing him to hear what was going on inside better, "Why didn't you call me?" He asked, sitting next to her on the steps where she'd been since she and Charlie had arrived home.

"You were supposed to be on patrol from six until ten." She reminded him, leaning her head against his shoulder.

"Well, you could have called Sam or Paul or anybody else."

"I…I freaked out. A vampire that wasn't a Cullen was in my room."

"What?" He said it quickly and stood up so fast that she almost tilted to the side when her support vanished.

"The…the vampire that wants to…" She couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence and she felt the back of her eyes burning, knowing that her eyes were once again filled with tears for what seemed like the hundredth time that night.

"This is bullshit." He sighed, seeing her upset seemed to have a calming effect on him because he took his place next to her again and pulled her into his lap, "You were never supposed to be dragged into any of this. Hell, we weren't supposed to happen like this."

"Please don't be breaking up with me." She begged, turning to face him.

"I couldn't do that, I'm too selfish." He smiled, kissing her forehead.

She wasn't quite sure how to respond to that so she simply nodded, resting her forehead in the crook between his shoulder and neck, thinking about how quickly her life had done a one eighty in just a few months. Still, she couldn't blame Jacob or any of the pack for this, they hadn't asked for it and until it had happened to them, they had all thought that the stories were just legends told by old men looking to scare little kids. No, if she wanted to blame someone she knew exactly who to blame and knew that if they had simply stayed away from the small town none of this would have ever happened.

When she opened her eyes again, sun was streaming through the slits in her blinds and the large arm effectively pinning her to the bed made it impossible to move, not that she wanted too. It wasn't often that she woke up in her boyfriend's arms, not unless Charlie had one of his rare days when he had to go in at four o'clock in the morning. Since she wasn't able to move she simply looked around and was surprised to find that there was no evidence of the disaster that had happened the night before, everything was put in its original place. The few things that were missing she knew weren't salvageable and made a mental note to write down what they were so that she could replace them the next time she with to Port A. Realizing just who must have been behind the clean-up she attempted to roll onto her side, surprised when she managed it and started peppering the handsome face in front of her with kisses.

"Morning." He smiled, his deep voice gravely, it wasn't a voice she'd heard from him before but it was one that she had no problem getting use to as it hit her straight in the lower stomach, "Oh so you like my sleepy voice?" He asked suddenly moving so that his massive frame was pinning her to the bed.

"Whatever." She sighed rolling her eyes, "Get off me you brick wall, we have to get ready."

"No, I think we'll be fine if we're just a few minutes late." He smirked and before she could reply his lips were over hers.

She started laughing as she kissed back but he put a quick end to that by pressing into her most sensitive area and the only response she could give was a moan and a buck of her his into his as she laced her hands around his neck and pulled him closer, "I guess we could be a little late."

Thirty minutes and a heavy make out session later, they were heading down the stairs as she tried her best to trip him though it wasn't easy with the grace he'd gained when he had become a wolf. Shaking her head she made to grab the keys but they weren't on their usual hook and her hand met air instead of the cool metal of her key ring a chuckle in front of her made her narrow her eyes at the back of her boyfriend's newly cut hair. He simply jangled the keys over his head and told her that if she wanted to drive she'd have to take them from him which she knew he would make impossible and with a pout she slid into the passenger seat of her small car, curious to see how his large frame would fit.

"Wait, you drove her car?" Paul asked when they pulled up from his position on the porch swing, "How'd you fit in there dude?"

Laughing Alyssa couldn't help but shake her head, he'd been cursing the entire drive over about how stupid it was that she had such a small car when clearly he couldn't fit in the driver's seat. It hadn't been until then that she'd realized that out of the pack, Jacob was without a doubt the largest, in height and muscle and that was something she felt proud of though she had no idea why. As he cracked his back and shot her a death glare she couldn't help but laugh again before calling him over to show him where the seat controls were, to which he simply gave her a flick on the forehead.

"That's for laughing at my pain when you could have prevented it." He said soberly before heading inside.

Rolling her eyes and shaking her head she took a deep breath and knew that as soon as she walked inside she would be either bombarded by questions or sympathetic looks that she wasn't quite ready to deal with. Pulling open the screen door she noticed that the top glass was missing and turned to Paul who simply shook his head and rolled his eyes as he stood up and held the door for her before following her into the small house. As she had expected everyone turned to look at her but there were no looks except those of greeting and she realized that Jacob hadn't shifted in the night like she'd assumed, so no one knew exactly what it was that had happened yet. He was leaving it up to her to tell them on her own time and when she caught his eyes she gave him a soft smile, to which he simply winked before asking when they were making their way to the beach.

It was a rare sunny day that was also actually almost in the ninety's which meant that this bonfire would actually include some swimming too, though the water would almost definitely be as cold as it always was. It was days like that, she wished that she lived somewhere in the south where it didn't have to be so hot to stand the frigid water but she knew that if she left Forks she wouldn't know what to do with herself. She was so use to the small town that she'd never really thought about leaving, even for college she planned on going to the local community instead of going away to university, unlike most people she loved the town and the people and hoped that in the future she'd raise her kids there.

"Why do you have a red mark on your forehead?" Leah asked her with a smirk.

"Because mister mechanic over there couldn't find my seat controls." She laughed shaking her head before smiling at Emily and making her way towards the kitchen where everything was already neatly packed and waiting.

"What took you guys so long?"

"I...Jake?" She smiled, though they could all hear the break in her voice.

At the sound of his girlfriend's voice breaking, Jacob closed his eyes and wished with everything in him that he could turn back the hands of time and prevent it from happening. The picture of her sitting on the steps, staring out into the night with tears in her eyes would forever be burned into his mind and if he could do anything about it, it was a sight he would never see again. Edward had filled him in on everything that he knew about the leech that had broken into her room as he helped put her room back to the way it was. It was clear that for whatever reason, the bronze haired boy wanted this James as dead as Jacob did, though he never mentioned why which was fine by the raven haired boy, the less he knew the better.

"Shift." He said simply and while he hadn't meant it as a command, Sam could be Alpha until they stopped phasing for all he cared, the word carried the weight of an Alpha Order, "Are you sure?" He asked the blonde who nodded before stepping inside and he could hear her explaining it to the girls.

Shaking his head and taking a deep breath he stripped himself of his shorts, they'd all seen each other naked at some point anyways, with the exception of Leah, and let the familiar fiery heat of the phase explode over his body before he was on all fours. He silently let them see everything that he'd seen the night before and let his memory go until he could see his hands literally ripping her shirt from her perfectly tanned and toned body before quickly phasing back. They all tried to keep their sexual lives private and while it didn't always work, especially if someone thought they were patrolling by themselves, they all had the decency to pretend that they hadn't seen anything.

He could tell that his brothers and sister were having a hard time keeping their cool because even though he'd already gotten dressed, Sam obviously had to give the Order to a few of them though it was obvious he was pissed too. Even as they went inside he knew that even though the girls would never hear it a few of them were still growling and nearly everyone had their jaws tightly clenched, teeth grounding. Leah walked over to the blonde and surprised everyone by wrapping her arms around the smaller girl, whispering that she promised they would rip the blood sucker apart limb by limb no matter what it took.

Emily and Kim hadn't moved from their spots next to her so they nodded, promising that they'd withhold sex from their boys until the man was to destroyed which made Sam and Jared groan, knowing that it wasn't really a joke. Jake couldn't help but smile at the thought of how much like sisters the three were, even more so than Bella appeared to be. The more he thought about it her realized that not once had he seen the other girl give her so much as a hug or tell her that everything was going to be alright. Even Cullen had promised him that if the pack needed his or his family's help, they would be there and from what he'd heard from Alyssa about the blonde female, she was probably already searching for the bastard. He wasn't sure why the blonde leech had taken such a liking to his imprint but if it meant that there was one more person after the bastard, he couldn't care less.

"So, what do we do now?" Paul asked, clearly ready to launch into some kind of action.

"We go the beach, have our bonfire and enjoy the rest of the day, duh." Alyssa said with a bright smile before ordering everyone to load up the cars.

Tell me what you think. Any suggestions of what you may like to see are more than welcome. I'm off to work on the next chapter.
