A/N: I am so sorry it took so long. So I'm moving to Texas. Yay. But meh, who cares as long as I can post occasionally.
Dinner Party
Steve and Bucky had talked about what would happen once the dinner was over. The adults were on the other side of the table talking to each other about lamps or something. Steve refused to even look at Tony, although Bucky kept kicking his shin under the table and gesturing to Tony with his eyes. Unfortunately, Tony was seated a seat away from him, with Bucky across.
Tony himself looked highly uncomfortable eating at the table, only occasionally taking a bite out of the food on his plate.
"So, uh, the food. It's good. " Steve uttered, looking between Maria and Edward Stark. Maria nodded kindly, smiling at Steve before going back to talking to Bucky's mother.
There was an awkward silence between the teens again before Steve leaned towards his best friend. "I can't do this. It's just too… awkward." Steve whispered. "I mean, come on! I kissed Tony once on impulse and he had a girlfriend! I can't deal with this it's just way too much like soap opera." Steve added, glancing at Tony. Bucky followed Steve's eyes to look at Tony.
"You told me he kissed back right? What if we made him jealous?" Bucky asked with a mischievous grin. "Did you not just hear what I said?! It's like you're specifically trying to make my life into a b-rated dramatic movie." Steve hissed. "Fine then, just tell him you like him and I'll leave it alone." Bucky insisted. Steve looked at him horror before vigorously shaking his head.
"I can't… I just can't." Steve whispered. Tony cleared his throat. "I know you guys are having a gossip fest over there but it would be nice to be included ya'know." Tony muttered, picking at his mashed potatoes. "Right, of course hot rod." Bucky said with a wink. Steve wanted nothing more than to melt in embarrassment.
"Sorry to disappoint you Buck-o, but I don't swing that way." Tony said, rolling his eyes.
"Liar..." Bucky said under his breath, almost making Steve spit out his water.
"So how do you two know each other?" Tony asked casually, taking a sip of his water. Steve shrugged, trying not to make any eye contact with Bucky or Tony.
"We met in the third grade. Not only was the kid skinny as hell but he also tried to stand up to every single bully. I lost count how many times I saved him from getting a black eye." Bucky said with a grin.
"I wasn't that skinny." Steve grumbled, trying to mask the smile playing on his lips and failing. "You were. You should've seen him! And then we got to middle school and let me tell you, puberty was very kind to him." Bucky said with a chuckle. "I can tell." Tony said a glint of amusement and something else in his brown eyes.
Steve felt his face heat up in embarrassment as he hissed at Bucky to shut up. His best friend merely smiled at him.
"Hey, why don't we watch a movie tomorrow?" Bucky suggests. "I mean, I've been in Russia so I would like to catch up on good ol' American culture." Bucky adds smiling at Tony. Tony looks at him unsure before turning to glance at Steve. Steve answered his stare with a shrug.
"Tomorrow it is then… unless you guys don't want me to come along." Tony hints. "It's no bother. Actually," Bucky smirks at Steve knowingly look, "I insist." Tony looks unsure again but nods.
"So… Loki seemed very honest back at the hospital." Tony said looking straight at Steve. Steve looked away guiltily before blurting out "It was his idea! I didn't even want to… not like that… can we just forget the whole hospital thing?" Steve asked miserably.
"What about a hospital?" Bucky asked, looking alert.
"I had to be submitted. It's no big deal." Steve said quietly. "It's no big… of course it's a big deal you idiot!" Bucky cried, getting the attention of the adults. "Sorry, didn't mean to yell. We're talking about football. Very passionate arguing, you know the deal." Bucky said answering their questioning stares.
"Of course it's a big deal!" Bucky hissed at Steve. Steve shrugged and Bucky grabbed his fore arm tightly, searching his eyes for something. "Is everything alright?" Bucky asked slowly. Steve nodded. "Yeah. Everything's alright." Steve replied.
Tony gave a cough and their attention was brought back to the conversation at hand.
"So the whole prank was Loki's idea?" Tony asked. Prank? More like sinister-plan Steve thought bitterly, nodding.
"Right. Not like I would care if you dated anyone." Tony said as he took a bite of his salad. Steve nodded, feeling just a tad bit miserable.
Why would Tony care about whom he went out with? Sure Steve only kissed him twice, and the circumstances of both kisses were far from pleasant. Even though the kisses themselves were very pleasant, a small voice in Steve's head told him. Steve agreed with the voice silently.
"So what was this whole prank thing about?" Bucky asked.
"Loki said he was going out with Steve. It wasn't a very good prank either." Tony said darkly.
"And why not? Sounds like a pretty good prank. Sort of. Depending on whose point of view you see it with." Bucky said with a grin. Steve had a feeling Bucky knew what the whole 'prank' was really about. Steve cleared his throat.
"Right, let's just… eat… at dinner." Steve said, staring at his food intently. The way he was eating could almost be passed off as vicious.
Before any of the boys could say something else, Bucky's mother stood up along with Tony's parents. "I'll be giving Bucky's mother a tour of the house. You boys could come along or stay here." Maria said with a smile.
"We'll stay." Bucky said, grinning back. With a 'behave' thrown their way, the group of adults left, chatting about the décor of the house.
"Do you have any video games?" Bucky asked, shoveling a forkful of food into his mouth.
"Yeah, but not many." Tony replied. He didn't elaborate so Bucky didn't ask anything else. All of them sat in uncomfortable silence.
Bucky stood up suddenly from the table, almost knocking the chair back. "I have to go pee." He said, spinning on his heel and walking towards a hallway. "Don't wait up!" He called over his shoulder as he strutted away from them.
Steve felt the sudden urge to run up to Bucky and yell 'take me with you' in his face. He didn't want to be stuck in an awkward silence with Tony. And yup, there it was an awkward silence so awkward it made jumping out the window look appealing.
Steve shoveled what remained of his dinner glumly. He remained in his seat uncertain as to what he should do. Come on Steve, don't just sit around like an idiot, do something!
Clearing his throat he stood up and started tidying up his plate and trash.
"Uh, I guess I'm supposed to play good host now that my parents are gone… let me help you with that." Tony said as he went around the table to stand awkwardly right beside Steve. Steve refused to even look at Tony, and instead shoved the dirty plates into what he suspected was his face.
"I don't think you can balance the plates on my shoulder but you could try." Tony said with a chuckle. Steve looked up and fumbled with the plates, almost making them drop to the floor.
"Here." Tony said, grabbing the plates while Steve was still holding on. Underneath the glass of said plates, their fingers were tip to tip. The blonde could feel the warmth from Tony's hand. Steve wondered briefly if his lips would also be warm. "You could let go of the plates now." Tony's voice brought Steve back as the blonde practically choked on his spit.
Flushing, Steve took a step back as he wiped his hands on his jeans. "Um… yeah. Haha, I don't know what's taking Bucky so long to go to the bathroom." Steve said nervously, looking almost desperately at the hall his friend disappeared in.
Tony raised an eyebrow as he set the plates on the table again. "He's been gone for less than two minutes." Tony replied. Steve felt his cheeks heat up in embarrassment as he nodded vigorously.
"O-oh yeah." Steve said, suddenly shaking his head. He had absolutely no idea what the hell he was doing.
"You alright there Steve? You're looking a bit… red." Tony said, looking at him as though he had grown another head. Steve nodded again before sighing.
"It's just… wow I must be horrible company right about now." Steve laughed nervously.
"Little bit, yeah." Tony agreed with a slight shrug. This caused Steve to laugh some more, but he felt less nervous than before. Tony stopped looking tense too, he noticed.
"So Buchannan Barnes…?" Tony said with a nod towards the hallway. Steve blushed again and tried nodded.
"Oh yeah! I've known him since… forever! He's my best friends. I remember him since I was in first or second grade, I think." Steve replied enthusiastically. Most of Steve's earliest memories had Bucky in them, whether it was causing mischief or even a skinned knee from riding bikes around the neighborhoods.
"I'm offended Steve! I thought you would've remembered me like Bucko there." Tony said jokingly. Steve couldn't help but notice the hurt tone Tony had on, carefully hidden but there none the less.
"You can't really blame me though. I'm surprised you remember." Steve shuffled closer to Tony to nudge his shoulder as he said it.
Tony looked almost guilty as he looked away. "Yeah, well about that…" Tony shrugged as Steve gaped at him.
"You don't even remember and you were chewing me out about it!" Steve said with a smile. "And is shrugging your default response to everything?!" Steve scolded. Tony grinned as he shrugged again, making Steve laugh.
Tony was smiling at him and god if that smile didn't almost make Steve forget how to breathe. Tony looked thoughtful for a second before throwing his hands in the air. "Ya'know what, fuck it." He exclaimed as he turned to face Steve. Before Steve could ask what that was about, Tony's lips were on his.
Steve was surprised, but he didn't push Tony away.
His lips were chapped slightly, but as warm as Steve thought they would be. The smell of iron, leather, and just a hint of cologne hit Steve. Steve sort of just stood there, not really moving. Tony pulled back as quick as he leaned forward.
"Shit, sorry. I probably… crap you still probably—"
"Tony…"
"—hate me for acting like such an ass to you in school and—"
"Tony."
"—I'm really impulsive and I probably ruined any small—"
"Tony, my god just shut up!" Steve yelled as he grabbed the brunette by the shirt and kissing him again. The kiss worked like a charm as Tony relaxed considerably. Steve pulled back and smiled at Tony, who just gaped at him like a trout.
"Okay..." Tony said before the end of his mouth lifted in a smile. Steve nodded almost shyly at him.
Tony leaned forward again, kissing Steve softly. The kiss itself was slow and modest and chaste. And then it wasn't.
Tony's tongue brushed Steve's bottom lip, making him press his lips harder against Tony's. Steve didn't care if he acted impatient as he bit Tony's lip lightly to make him open his mouth because it actually worked.
Tony's hands wove themselves into his blonde hair as he tilted his head to get a better angle. Meanwhile, Steve put his hands on Tony's hips, bringing them closer to each other.
There was a sudden whistle behind them and a clap.
"Ya'know, it just came to me that I didn't know the way to the bathroom because I don't know your house." Bucky was staring at them smugly, leaning against the doorway. Tony tried to stutter out a reply but failed miserably. "I think I better get lost again and let you two continue." Bucky said with a mischievous grin as he turned around and started heading back into the hallway.
Steve stared at his back for a second before running towards him. He stopped his friend by his arm, pulling him back to face him.
"Bucky what you saw, what happened in there, you can't tell anyone." Steve said breathlessly. Bucky opened his mouth to say something. "Please." Steve interrupted quietly. Bucky snapped his mouth shut and glanced at Tony, who was casually leaning against the back of a chair and looking at the two of them curiously.
Bucky nodded slowly. "You know I wouldn't tell anyone." Bucky said confidently. He broke out into another grin. "Looks like you hit the jackpot." Bucky added with a snigger. Steve shoved him away with a shake of his head.
"You're absolutely impossible." Steve told him, rolling his eyes.
