Chapter 10

"When I was a child, still a young nation, we could go freely between the dimensions. This one, our own, and many more, one even had me but with a flipped personality. It was amazing to be able to go from place to place without any kind of boundaries, with no one stopping you. But that all changed when someone decided that it was a good idea to have someone to make rules and limitations and boundaries for when people when it came to crossing. I still don't know which world they were from, actually." China explained, drinking the tea Rosie had kindly made for him. "Beyond that, people here have swapped genders. I do not know how to get into the other worlds anymore or even if you can. Who the council are exactly are a group of people who do all the policing when it comes to crossing. When they find someone who has been doing it too much, they impose some kind of insane punishment on them. I was lucky enough to get away before they could catch me and punish me. Rosie, I don't think, was so lucky."

Rosie looked down and nodded her head. England questioned just who it was that had put her through the 'witch trials' she had mentioned earlier. She herself had said it was just a member of the general public, but, from what he could see now, that was all a lie.

"Put through a 'witch trial' to exhaust any kind of ability to travel. After all, the people who police the crossers are drawn by magic. Of course, to intensify the torture, they allow their 'witches' to still see the magical creatures, but not preform magic. Am I correct?" China continued. Rosie nodded her head, her eyes forced shut. England could swear he could see tears coming from them, though, he had to admit they were a bit sudden. This woman, who he could have sworn was the 'tough' type, never to cry, with a punk attitude. He had just found she had lied to him and broken down into tears. Was there anything this girl did today that was expected? 'Still,' he thought, 'That's incredibly harsh.'

"That's probably why she took to using her own world and remaining ability to help out travellers who have moved around, and or decided it's a good idea to accidentally fall into a mirror. Right~?" Chun-Yan asked, though, England couldn't really tell whether it was a statement or a question. Either way, Rosie didn't speak. 'She hit the bullseye.' England thought.

Slightly overwhelmed from all this information, Arthur decided to contribute to the conversation, "I would like to thank you, in that case, for helping me, Rosie." He said, in the most sincere way he could muster. "But what are we going to do about it? Try and take down the council or-"

"Yes." Rosie and China butted in simultaneously.

Chun-Yan looked at Arthur, "Well, looks like that's what we're doing."

Arthur chuckled, but could tell they were all being serious. He had an idea as to what he wanted to do, he wanted to lure them to him rather than the other way around. In the group there were four potential magic users. Perfect. "Yao, Chun-Yan, you can both use magic, right?"

Chun-Yan's eyes lit up then and there. With a somewhat devious smile, she said she could, and would be more than willing to give it everything she had. China, on the other hand, let out a small sigh at her enthusiasm and said he could as well, but might be a bit out of practice. China proceeded to explain how to get to the council. It would include the UN meeting room, five different kinds of mirror and two of the same kind. He himself had a pocket mirror, plus Rosie's mirror meant that two out of the five were already sorted. The others, however, would be more tricky. "They were confiscated by the council." He stated. "Those which lead to the other two worlds. Most of the council people are from those two worlds, so they wanted to limit access as much as possible, I guess."

Rosie let out a 'tsk' under her breath. Of course she knew someone with such a mirror, but they weren't exactly the best of friends. They had a history of bickering, fighting and exchanging punches. Lend Rosie the mirror? Keep dreaming. "Well, I know someone with a mirror. I don't know them very well but..." Chun-Yan butted in. Rosie knew jolly well where this was going. "The English rose over there might."

Sighing, Rosie straightened herself up and turned to face the group, brushed her hair back and said, "Do we have to go visit her?" Chun-Yan nodded. "Fine."

'The things I do...' Rosie thought to herself, as the group travelled over Europe on a couple of spare brooms. Rosie and Chun-Yan could have teleported to their destination, but the boys would have been unable to do such a thing, therefore, brooms it was. "There it is!"

Directing the brooms downwards, the four of them swooped into landing. They stood in front of a massive mansion, covered with gold plating, ornate designs, and all manner of organisms sculpted into the side of it. Doves, grapes, what looked like glass and wine bottles, all forged into the side of the gorgeous building. It shone in the light, the sun reflecting off the gold and silver plating, where it wasn't gold, it was a dazzling white. The door, too, was covered in carvings. Leaves, crosses, flowers, all etched into the wood. The handle was, what looked like, a wolf knocker. There was a doorbell as well, with the design of a cyclamen flower on it. No word could describe the beauty of the building.

Smirking, Rosie gestured for the other three to move out the way. She took three steps back. Charged at the door, and forced it open. Well, almost off it's hinges. "ALRIGHT ALI-"

Suddenly, a fist came flying into Rosie's face from the side, forcing her back, the person who threw the punch carried on stumbling across the room even after her hand had left Rosie's cheek until she managed to get ahold of herself half way across the room. "How'd ya like that Rosie?!" She laughed maniacally. Abruptly noticing the boys, she stopped. Waltzed over to them and handed England a cyclamen (Seemingly out of nowhere) "Ciao, forte." She winked. England felt himself blush, yet he pushed her away.

"ARIGHT ALICE." Rosie got up and dusted herself off. "I NEED SOMETHING OFF YOU." Rosie gazed at the sight she was presented with. Alice flirting with England in the doorway, England holding a cyclamen flower, England blushing, England frowning, Chun-Yan smirking and China looking worried. She stood there in utter silence. Something was angering her about this sight. But what was it?

Alice took her hand off England's shoulder and frowned at Rosie, "And what would that be?"

"You have one of the last remaining mirrors to 'second player', right?" The English girl enquired.

"So what if I do?" The Italian replied, her voice filled to the brim with confidence, or was it arrogance? Rosie had lost the ability to tell anymore.

"Lend it to me."

Alice giggled, "And what would I gain from that?"

Rosie thought for a second. She knew what Alice wanted, well, at least from her show just now. But, for some reason, Rosie didn't want to give it to her. "Freedom from the council." She stated, praying that Alice didn't reject the offer.

"That it?" Alice looked disappointed, "Throw in the boy too."

"No!" Rosie inadvertently blurted out. Realising what she had said, she hesitated, before turning to England, "Arthur, what do you think?" England nodded, and stated that he would do anything if it helped their cause. Well, within a certain extent. As long as it didn't involve torture or death he would willingly do it. For some reason, Rosie felt some kind of pain after hearing this. She couldn't pin down why. She hadn't known England long, it wasn't like he was her friend or anything. She shook it off. 'Emotions like this are for the weak.' she convinced herself, 'I'm stronger than that.'

"Fantastic! You succeed, I get the man." Alice smiled. She had all good intentions, no matter how evil she may seem. "You don't and oh well. I'm not a necrophiliac. Anyway, you wanted the mirror? Right this way!"

Chun-Yan, England and China followed immediately behind Alice. Rosie stayed back a second. 'What was that feeling?' she thought, 'Whatever, soon enough this'll all be over and done with and I will be able to get back to travelling. It's probably just nerves. No point in lamenting over it. Feelings are beyond overrated.' And then proceeded to catch up to the rest of the group. She thought it ironic. A non-magic user being able to own a mirror and know what it's for. Perhaps it was because she couldn't use magic that the council allowed Alice to keep her 'second player' mirror. Then again, it was rather convenient, rather too convenient for the council to let her keep it despite the fact she and her sister knew plenty of people who could use magic. Hoping it was no more than a coincidence or some kind of horrific, overlooked mistake, she and the group made it down to Alice's dust covered basement. Where the mirror lay, covered in a sheet, covered in tomato stains.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter. Note: Alice is pronounced 'Ah-LEE-chay' and is the name Himaruya mentioned liking for Fem!Italy.
