Chapter 9
I don't know what happened next. I didn't know if we had made it back to Frank or not. At that point, I was hoping Osmosis would find a way. I just wanted to make it back to my family.
I soon began to feel myself regaining consciousness. I tried moving my fingers. They move. Good. Toes? There they are. It seemed like I was still whole, thank Frank. I slowly opened my eyes and caught a glimpse of what was around me. At least through the one eye that wasn't wrapped in bandages.
It looked like I was in the hospital. I forgot where that was in Frank, mainly because I let Osmosis remember that. I was lying in a bed and, as I moved a bit, I felt a large bandage around my abdomen. Oh yeah. Almira got me pretty good. Must have lost a lot of plasma.
The door opened and I looked over, seeing Osmosis walk in. He smiled over to me and sat near my bed. "How ya feelin', Anne?"
"Good." I said, smiling thinly. "Did we save him?"
"Yeah. Frank's good." He nodded, sitting back. "You took quite a spill. The nurse said you lost a lot of plasma."
"Figured." I replied.
He chuckled, sitting up more. I noticed my left arm in a cast and frowned. "The hell?"
"The doctor said you broke it. The bite that was in it is what caused the fracture." He said.
"Ah…" I nodded.
"Well." He stood, stretching. "We've got to go now."
"We?" I asked.
"Yeah. To the ceremony." He said, pointing to the television screen.
I looked and saw an announcement for a ceremony in a few for Osmosis. "Oh. Cool. Since you saved Frank?"
"We all saved him." He said, helping me up and into my coat. He also put a sling on me for my arm, to which I hate. "The nurse said you were fine to go, but just be sure not to do too much."
"Got it." I nodded and stood, seeing my claw. It was out in the open, for sure. People will see. "So they know?"
"I told them you were good and they understood." He said as he walked out, helping me to walk too.
"Thanks, Osmosis." I smiled. "You'd make a good dad one day."
"Aren't I one already?" He smiled, ruffling my hair.
"Not my true dad, but yeah. You're like my dad." I said, walking outside. I saw Drix floating by Osmosis' car and I smiled, waving to him with my good hand.
"Nice to see you in one piece." He said, holding the door open for me.
"Guys, I'm not a princess. I don't need a royal treatment." I said, sitting in the back.
"Shut up." Osmosis smiled and got in, waiting for Drix to do so as well before beginning to drive.
I smiled, kicking his seat with my good leg. "Shut up yourself." I joked as we neared the city hall. Damn, I forgot we were that close.
We got out and I heard a lot of cheering, seeing many people around. I tensed a bit and looked to my claw, wondering what they were thinking. But it appeared no one cared for what I was. I guess they know I'm good and don't want to hurt anyone. We got to the steps and went up there, turning to the crowd. The police chief went to stand by Osmosis as the mayor and Leah walked out, the mayor walking to the microphone and tapping it.
"Hello!" He began. "It is my great pleasure to present the hero who saved Frank! Osmosis Jones!"
The crowd roared to life as the chief took Osmosis' aloft hand, saying something I couldn't hear and handing his badge back. I noticed Leah then grabbing him and kissing him deeply. I smiled and squeaked when Drix grabbed me, placing me on his shoulder. I smiled and waved with my good arm to the crowd, smiling.
"You doing well, Anne?" I heard Drix ask and I looked to him. "You know, since your father…"
"I'm fine. Besides, he was never around to be my real dad." I said, smiling. "Besides, I have Osmosis. He's like a dad to me."
"I heard that!" Said cell walked over, smiling. "I hope you two are well, because I am making you two my permanent partners."
"Really?" Drix smiled widely.
"Yep! Oh! Hang on." He dug in his pockets before tossing me something.
I grabbed it and looked to it, freezing. It was the hypothalamus chain Thrax always had. I saw the other beads in the chain, flashing a bright blue. "Osmosis?"
"They wanted you to hold onto it, instead of putting it away. Just so no badies could get it." He smiled at me.
I smiled back, wrapping it four times around my arm. "Thanks, Osmosis. I'll take care of it."
He nodded as Leah walked over, giving him another kiss. I smiled and looked back to the crowd, waving. I stopped for a moment when I saw two figures in the back, causing me to nearly burst into tears.
I saw my mother and brother. They both looked the age they would have been today, waving to me from the back of the crowd. I saw my mother mouth "I'm proud of you" to me before she took my brother, both of them disappearing. I wiped my eyes, smiling widely.
"Hey." Drix looked to me, smiling. "Think about it. Your mother and brother would be proud of you right now."
"Drix, I know they are." I smiled back to him. "I just know it."
