A/N: I am having a massively stressful time right now in my personal life. I was in a car accident which totaled my only vehicle for the family, so for the last two days I've been trying to get all that straight.

I've been thinking how I want to proceed in this story and I'm just not sure… I'm gonna take a stab at it , and if it's totally horrible I'll erase and redo . oh this chapter is a little bit sassy ;)

Chapter 10

Kevin and Javier talked through the night , catching up on everything they had missed in the last 5 months. Kat knew they needed it, maybe even more than she and Kevin did. Their friendship was precious , and she didn't want to be the cause of any discord in it. So she waited, semi patiently, until they finally had a lull in the conversation . She walked over to Kevin and whispered in his ear. What she said made him shoot up off the couch.

"Sorry bro gotta go!!"

Javier started to apologize for keeping them so late but Kat shook her head. She wrapped her arms around his mid section , squeezing him tight. "Thank you Javi, for everything." She gave him a quick kiss and retreated to get her jacket.

Kevin also gave him a hug. The two usually didn't show affection that way, but after 5 months of little to no communication with his best friend and partner, it felt right. "Javi, I can't thank you enough for everything you did for Kat while I was away, and even in the last month. You are the best friend either of us could have." They clapped each other on the back as a goodbye. Kat returned, and she and Kevin said goodnight.

Kat and Kevin's apartment

When they got home Kevin took a minute, taking in the sight of Kat. He had been away for so long, for the undercover op, then giving her space… it almost didn't seem real to him he was back here, with her. She turned towards him when she felt him stop walking and saw him staring at her.

"What? What are you thinking about?" she asked him, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge.

"You. Always you." He slowly walked up on her, taking the bottle from her hands and cupping her cheek. He leaned down and kissed her, slow at first , almost lazily. But when he felt her mouth open to allow him access he quickened the pace, and upped the intensity. He picked her up sitting her on the counter and began to undress her. Pausing every few seconds to get her approval, then moving forward. He peeled off her shirt , throwing it to the side, his mouth making trails down her neck.

She tried to be still, but the feeling building up inside of her got to be too much. "Kev… please…" she was begging , for what exactly she didn't know. But he was going way too slow for her, she could feel her insides knotting up.

He grinned "No baby… I want to drink you all in. I want us to take our time." He continued his slow pace of removing her clothes. He lifted up off the counter and set her back on the floor, then ran his hands slowly up her legs until he got to her skirt. One zip and it fell to the floor in a puddle.

Kat was feeling very exposed, so she reciprocated his clothing removal tactics. Spinning him around so he was leaning against the counter, she unbuttoned his shirt with deft fingers, pulling it off of him and throwing it so it joined hers on the floor. She reached down to unzip his pants, and could feel and see how excited he was. She smiled at him and made quick work of them. They stood , looking at each other for a moment, before she jumped and wrapped her legs around him as he carried her to the bedroom, mouths never leaving each other.

They loved each other all night long. Sometimes slow and teasing , others fast and hard like they couldn't get enough of each other. By dawn they were completely spent , and laid in each others arms.

"Kat, baby, you still awake?"

"Mmmm" was the response Kevin got. She flipped over so she was facing him "Sort of."

They stared into each others eyes for a moment -his bright blue, like ice, into her deep blue-grey… he brushed a strand of hair from her face and tipped her chin til she looked at him.

"Thank you for giving us another chance." He kissed the tip of her nose. "I won't blow it this time, I promise."

She leaned over and kissed him gently on the lips, curling up into him as he wrapped his arms around her, and they drifted off to sleep.

The next morning came too early. Kevin's phone was buzzing, which he fully intended on ignoring except when he woke up Kat wasn't in bed. He started to panic when he heard the shower and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Ryan."

"Hey bro, sorry to disturb you but we have a body." Javier gave him the details and disconnected the call.

Kevin pulled some clothes on he had left at the apartment and made his way to the bathroom. He stopped when he heard Kats voice in the shower.

Because you matter to me

Simple and plain and not much to ask from somebody

You matter to me

I promise you do, you, you matter too

I promise you do, you see?

You matter to me

It's addictive the minute you let yourself think

The things that I say just might matter to someone

All of this time I've been keeping my mind on the running away

And for the first time I think I'd consider the stay

It was the first time he had heard her sing since the night she was shot at the club, and Tim Johnson had been killed. He leaned against the sink, reveling in the sound.

Because you matter to me

Simple and plain and not much to ask from somebody

You matter to me

I promise you do, you, you matter too

I promise you do, you see?

You matter to me

She shut off the water, opened the shower curtain and cursed. "Dammit Kevin! You scared the shit out of me!" she clutched her chest and started laughing.

He handed her a towel sheepishly "Sorry. I was enjoying hearing you sing again."

She wrapped the towel around her, stepped out of the tub and gave him a kiss. "Next time why don't you join me?" she asked before realizing his state of dress. "Let me guess, body?" she made her way to the bedroom and pulled open drawers, retrieving under clothes .

"Yeah, Javi called. I really would rather stay here with you all day but…" He stopped when she let the towel fall and started to get dressed. "Dammit Kat…"

She smiled at him knowing full well what she was doing. After seeing his face she felt bad for torturing him so she quickly got dressed. "I get it. Work comes first. " she stood in front of him, hands on his chest. "Hurry back though okay? And be safe!" with that he pulled her close and kissed her quick, leaving her breathless as he breezed out of the room. She heard the front door click and fell back onto the bed, consumed with thoughts of their previous night.

Corner of 42nd street at Bryant Park

Kevin realized he had a bounce in his step when he approached the crime scene. He tried to play down his joy, it was a dead body after all, but his emotions betrayed him. He was happier than he had been in a long time.

"What's gotten into you Kevin?" Lanie Parish , the NYPDs premiere medical examiner could typically spot what was happening with her friends from a mile away. This one had her stumped . Last she heard Kevin was in the dog house…

"Can you keep a secret Lanie?" the detective was grinning from ear to ear.

Before he got a chance to explain his excitement the rest of the team joined them.

"What we got?" Kate took charge, going over COD with Lanie, and giving instructions to Javier and Kevin to get statements from witnesses. It took Kevin a minute to realize he recognized the victim, but when he finally did his whole demeanor changed.
