Castle was a wreck. Kate's message drove him crazy, why did she want to talk to him? To tell him that Aiden didn't approve? To tell him that she had second thoughts and didn't want to try? Or maybe she just wanted to say that everything worked out perfectly? Well no, she would have called while Aiden was around if it was the last thought.
So he brought Alexis to his mother, for the girls night they both wanted to have for so long. But the bad side about that was, he had no distraction, he tried to write and failed.
Now he was pacing up and down in the loft waiting that it would pass 10pm, so Aiden would be tucked in and soundly asleep, while he talked to Kate. Rick thought about calling her, saying that he would come, but he feared that she might back away. So he'd call her when he'd be outside of her penthouse. There wouldn't be a chance to escape.

Kate sat on her couch staring at her phone. It was 9:30 pm and Aiden was asleep. She knew she had to talk to Castle explain him everything and say she couldn't stand being in a relationship, which her son might not be okay with. Aiden was her priority, even though she could see Castle without Aiden knowing, it would feel wrong and it wouldn't be the kind of relationship she wanted
. Furthermore Kate knew it would become hard, because at some point she couldn't hide her past from Castle, but she wasn't sure if this was what she really wanted. Her life was already perfect with her little baby boy and her father. So should she really risk all of this for what? A relationship with an author who had two failed marriages?
Her mind started spitting out the worst theories about what could happen when she received a message. Without noticing she started smiling when she saw Castle's name.

Are you home and have time? It read and Kate debated whether she should tell the truth or say that she was working on a case. But Beckett realized there wasn't a chance to avoid the talk.

Yes. She answered and immediately got the response.

Open the door. Beckett almost ran to the door, she couldn't believe he really came. But she was glad, because she really wanted to see him and among other things, what she knew couldn't happen.
But all those things were forgotten, when she opened the door and saw him standing there, looking like a little kid who just broke your favorite vase.

"Hey." Kate said shyly and before Castle could answer they somehow met in the middle and kissed each other. This kiss said more than just welcome, it was far too passionate for that, but when Kate was about to open her mouth for his tongue, she backed up.

"We can't" she sated guiltily looking down, because she wasn't able to face his disappointment.

"Before I'm going to ask why, can we move this inside?" Castle asked, trying to hold himself together. Kate nodded and let him in.
Castle was at her door a few times since they met, but never actually went inside. He was speechless when he saw her place, Rick knew she had money but this was just overwhelming. It was beautiful, huge , with a lot of pictures. It looked so like Beckett, but far more expensive than he thought. But he wasn't interested in this at the moment, now it was more important why Kate wanted to talk. When they both sat on the couch with water in front of them Castle started:

"So I guess the talk with Aiden, didn't go the way we both hoped?" Castle had a calm voice, trying to make it easy for her to talk about it.

"Well mostly yes. He said, if I would have one, he didn't want to know him and that he didn't need a daddy. He just wants to live with me, not with someone else." Kate said it almost rambling, looking at Castle, but before she could continue with what was on her mind, he stopped her

"Was that what Aiden said?" Castle asked softly starting to hope again, Kate thought a bit

"Yeah, I guess, maybe with other words, but yes. Why?" Kate asked, looking a bit confused at the question.

And Castle's face lit up "Because Kate, I think we have a chance" Castle held a finger at her mouth, so he could explain what he wanted to say without interruptions
"Aiden is six years old and doesn't know what it means, does he? And he just got the wrong impression. Let me talk to him, I'll show him I don't try to act like his dad, nor that I want him to give me some of his time with you. We'll start things slow, since that's what you want anyway, we'll continue having playdates and dinners together, so he understands I won't try to take you away from him. And after a while we ask him, if it would be okay for us to be a couple. What do you say?" Castle was so happy with his idea, he didn't notice Kate bringing more space between them.

"You think it'll work? Because this sounds more like I play with my son's feelings and Rick I can't do that. Yes I know it would be easy for us to meet without our children noticing, but I don't even want that. I could never betray Aiden's trust like that. I'm sorry Rick." Kate stated, preparing for him to leave. Why would he have a reason to stay? But of course he surprised her.

"Okay I understand that. But let's meet sometime soon and let me talk to him. Okay? One afternoon is all I ask, if he's still against you being in a relationship. I will never ask you about it or try to make moves, friends wouldn't let me tell him, I just want to spent time with you.?" Rick saw that Kate wasn't 100 % convinced, but he could see, that she thought about it.
"I don't want to betray your son either, but Kate when you kiss me, or I just touch you, I can feel there is more than just friendship and I want there to be more." Rick added shyly looking down, scared he said too much or the wrong thing.

After a few minutes of silence he heard her whisper "Okay" and his head shot up immediately.

"Really?" He asked with a big grin, Kate nodded and with that Rick couldn't hold back and leaned forward to kiss her.
The kiss got heated soon, but this time it was Rick who backed up.

"Why don't we just wait and see what the afternoon will bring?"Rick asked softly, Kate smiled and kissed his cheek. Castle pulled Kate over so she was sitting in his lap facing the TV. They just sat there and enjoying the feeling of the closeness of the other one.
After Castle told Kate, Alexis slept at her Gram's, they started watching TV. Well Kate tried to, but Castle kept staring at her or playing with her hair. She was playing with his fingers, which where tangled with hers. It was getting late , but neither of them was ready to say Goodbye. They never had just time with the two of them like that. So this was a really special moment, where both of them wanted to save every minute, Beckett even forgot about all of her doubts.

"So are you free on Friday?" Kate asked quietly while having her eyes closed.
"Aiden told me, he saw Alexis at his school. I guess she's visiting the kindergarten there?"

Rick nodded "Yes, what a coincidence that our children are visiting the same school?"

"No, we both want the best for our children." Kate chuckled.

"So I thought maybe we could pair them up together. I'm sorry if I rush things, but I want to know if you're able to convince Aiden, because I can't invest in this - us - if we have to stop it." Kate explained, not even feeling shy about telling her feelings. Gosh how could Castle gain her trust that easily?

"I think that sounds perfect. Maybe we could go to the National History Museum, Alexis loves it. And I think there's cool boy stuff I could do with Aiden?" Rick suggested. Kate beamed at his suggestion, he really did try to make this work. They chit chat last for about two hours , when Rick realized it was already 1 am. He knew Kate had to get up at 6 o'clock so he decided to leave, even though he hated the thought.
When he turned down to say something he noticed Kate fell asleep. When he came in he noticed what he thought was her bedroom, so he got up and carried her into the room and tucked her in. He smiled when he heard her mumble something, she was so adorable. He bent down whispered "Goodnight beauty. Sweet dream." Kissed her head and left the penthouse.

When he arrived at home, he had a big grin on his face. He was sure they had a chance. And he couldn't wait to live it.
