He's Just My Everything

Hate To Envy, Hate to Pain

~Erica's P.O.V~

When I woke up the next day, I smiled. I didn't have a noghtmare. In fact, I dreamt about Ethan. I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. Mom was awake, and I bit my lip. My stomach growled so painfully I doubled over. I quickly straitened as mom turned around.

"Hey Erica. You're up early." She smiled. I went over to the pantry and grabbed some cereal.

"I guess. I slept well last night, so I woke up early." I shrugged.

"Well, alright." She retunred to cooking her oatmeal.

"Hmmm... you're off today?"

"Yep. I plan on going for a jog, then doing nothing for the rest of the day." I giggled.

"Good plan."

"So what's new with you cupcake? You seem pretty happy."

"Well... do you remember Ethan?"

"Of course..." She sounded like she was swooning, but when I looked over, she had a strait face.

"He asked me out."

"What?! Seriously?! Oh, Erica, you have my blessing!" I blushed furiously.

"You're too awake."

"I only had two cups of coffee so far." She pouted. I sat, ate my cereal, and left.

But I stopped suddenly when I saw Ethan at my front door.

"Hey." He smiled at me. I was bewildered.

"Hey."

I walked toward school, smiling over the fact he came to pick me up. He usually met up with me at his house, then we walked together, but he came to me.

As we were approaching the school building, he grabbed my hand.

"Is this okay?" He asked nervously. I nodded, cheeks red as our fingers intertwined. I exspected him to pull away when we got to the stairs, but he showed no sign he was loosening himself from me.

When we walked in the school building, everyone turned to Ethan, bitter faced because they knew I was going to be right there, and they all gasped collectively, and they all scowled and started whispered to one another. I was hypervenilating. Ethan just smiled and walked me to my locker.

"See you in class." He kissed my cheek and walked away.

Yep. I was going to be the most hated person in the entire school.

As I arrived to class early, Ethan wasn't there yet. I sat down and waited, getting my books out. No one looked at me. No one said anything. They acted silently. It was almost worse than when the said bad things behind my back.

Then Sarah Fox came over.

"I told you," She hissed, her eyes glowing, but her expression showed nothing but fear. "you're starting it over Eri- Jones. It'll start all over."

"...you're wrong." I stood up. Sarah backed away, stunned. "He won't hurt me, but thank you for your concern." I sat back down and opened my notebook. She stormed off just as Ethan, came in, frowning.

He had lipstick stains on his cheek.

He sat by me silently, getting no books out. He stared at the table. The bell rang, but Mr. Bell was nowhere to be found.

"Ethan?"

"Forget it."

"But-"

"Please?" He looked at me. My heart stopped, but I was getting angry.

"Tell. Me." I said angerily. He looked surprised, then grinned.

"I knew you had it in you." He kissed my cheek and I blushed, confused. "I was attacked by Jasmine Saint. I didn't do anything, I promise." He smiled and got his books out.

Jasmine then walked in. She looked dazed, almost regrettful. I stood up.

"He's taken, Jasmine. If anything, you would understand." I gave her a taste of her own medicine. She blushed and sat in her spot. And after I looked around to see people staring and whispering, I followed suit.

Ethan walked me to my locker after every class and kissed my cheek at every doorway for the whole day. I got used to the attention. At lunch, Benny Weir and his friend, Rory sat next to us. Sarah and Jasmine had a fight and Sarah took off, not coming back. Jasmine was terrible the rest of the day. Poor students that simply smiled at her got a fistful of it.

What intrigued me was what Sarah said when she stood.

"We don't have to live like this anymore, Jas!"

Did she mean vampires? Or was she talking about me?

Ethan interupped my thoughts.

"Would you like to meet my sister?" He whispered.

"You have a sister?"

"Well... she's a special case. I trust you to keep a secret, and she wants to meet you."

"Oh, alright." I agreed.

"Hey Erica?" I turned around to see Sarah behind the school, whispering for me to come closer. She looked drained. I looked at Ethan and he nodded, letting my hand go. I walked toward her. She was making weird noises in the back of her throat, like she was sobbing, but there was no tears.

"Yes?" She grabbed onto my shoulders.

"I need help."
