I know the story started a little slow but it is a long one and I did not want to rush the pacing. For all of you that have stuck with it the story is beginning to pick up. Hope you still enjoy. Thank you for following this story yellow xterra 118 (it would not take it without the spaces the word it kept shortening it to 118)
As he parked the impala, Sam wondered for the hundredth time why Metatron would show himself to him and then just disappear in the blink of an eye. Was he playing games with them? And what did Metatron mean he wasn't talking to him, he was the only person there. Groceries in hand Sam walked in to the bunker and straight for the kitchen thinking about how he was going to tell Dean about the new angel joining the party.
He heard Dean before he seen him. His brother was humming "Smoke on the Water" which meant the older hunter was cleaning up the kitchen. He smirked at how homebody oriented Dean had become before he stepped into the room.
"Hey. They didn't have that new fancy beer you like so I just picked up our normal one," Sam said as he put the six-pack in the fridge.
Dean scoffed and seen the attempt at his baby brothers humor for what it was. A peace offering and he was going to accept it. "Please. It has a demon on the label how fancy can it be."
"You're right. Hey so do you think Crowley could have posed for it on a bad day?"
For the first time in months, maybe since before the trials, Sam saw a real smile on Dean's face. He hated to ruin the moment but he figured it was par for the course in a Winchester's life. "We might have bigger problems than Shiloh."
Dean's mood sobered up immediately at the mention of the prisoner upstairs. She was one of the reason he was not sure how things were between him and Sam. "How much bigger than a pepping dick who has watched everything bad that has ever happened to us and done nothing?"
Sam glanced away for a moment. There was nothing he could say and even if there was right now Dean wasn't going to listen. "God's scribe big."
"Metatron? What the hell is he doing in Lebanon, Kansas? Could he be looking for Cas?"
Sam shrugged putting the last of the groceries and tossing the bag in the recycle bin. "I don't know. I was standing there one minute, he walked up to me and I blinked he was gone."
Dean crossed his arms over his chest and narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean he was gone? Are you sure he was Metatron?"
Sam scoffed, "Yes Dean, I do know what Metatron sounds like. Remember I was there too when we convinced him to help with Kevin."
"What do you mean sounds like. You said he was there and he was gone."
"So sue me Dean. He told me that he wasn't talking to me and then he was gone."
Dean rubbed that patch of skin over his right eyebrow and tried not to panic. Was Metatron there to talk to Ezekiel? He took a deep breath. His intention to call out the angel and find out if Metatron was interrupted by Kevin as he entered the room.
"Hey Sam, Dean said you went for beer, did you remember my... Am I interrupting something?"
"Um no.' Dean said.
"Dean," Sam admonished. "Kevin, we just found out that Metatron is here in town."
"Is that a bad thing? Maybe he could help translate the tablet."
Dean and Sam scoffed.
"You think the angel that tossed all the others out of heaven will help us open it again," Dean asked sarcastically.
Kevin didn't miss the defeated look Dean gave Sam before turning back to the sink. "Is this what you were talking about when you were yelling at your bed and said angel trouble?"
Sam glanced at Dean wondering why his brother had not told the prophet about Shiloh. It wasn't as if Kevin wasn't going to find out. Although, maybe his plan to keep her locked up would solve everything as far as his brother was concerned. "No, actually that's Dean's personal angel. She came out of the closet this afternoon. We were dealing with her when you called."
Kevin blinked and looked back and forth between the brothers. "I thought Castiel was his personal angel."
Dean snorted and pretended he was not listening. He wouldn't have told Kevin about Shiloh but he didn't want to fight with Sam right now. He needed to keep a close eye on Ezekiel especially with two rouge angels in the vicinity.
Sam grinned and then the smile faded thinking about their friend and the way he left last time. "Cass is getting better about personal space. But Shiloh said she was Dean's guardian angel."
"They have those?"
"Apparently", Dean answered sarcastically.
"So why didn't you know about her until now," Kevin asked uncertainly.
Sam looked at Dean and Dean returned the look. Neither one of them knew how to answer the question. Dean didn't want to give her an inch and Sam thought she deserved a chance.
Kevin groaned he hated it when the Winchesters did that to him. He was the prophet he could know things too. "Can I meet her?"
"No."
"Yes."
"Sam, you want to put the prophet near a rouge angel."
"She is in a ring of fire that if I need to remind you she volunteered to stand in. What can she do to Kevin? Besides if she has been watching you all this time she has had plenty of opportunities to kill him or capture him or what ever evil thing you think she has planned."
"Well look at you, she has wings and your all trust of her now. You were the one worried about her volunteering to stand in the oil. You went to the store and met with Metatron and suddenly you think she should be given free access to the bunker."
Sam looked at Dean and sighed. His brother's arms crossed so tightly against his chest that if he touched him he would break. He understood why Dean was so adamant about this. There was so much tragedy in their past and an angel just stood by and let it happen. "Dean, I am not looking to give her free access to anything. But if she is on our side lets use her. I am tired of always being out numbered and out gunned. You said we would find out from Cass weather we could trust her. He didn't tell us we could not, just that she shouldn't be here."
Kevin hated when Sam and Dean argued and he felt this time was his fault. "Guys I was just thinking that we could get her to help with the tablet is all. You said Metatron wouldn't but maybe she can. After all wasn't she thrown out of heaven with the rest of them?"
Dean shook his head defeated. He could force the situation but that would put him at even bigger odds with his brother. And of course Kevin wouldn't think about all the crap angels had handed them over the last years. "Have either of you thought about the fact she could be working with Metatron?"
"Does Metatron strike you as an angel who would work with other angels, Dean," Sam asked quietly.
Dean opened his mouth and then snapped it shut. Metatron used other angels but didn't work with them. That made the one upstairs even more dangerous if she was just a tool for the Scribe. Sam did have a point about being the one on top for a change. "Fine but we are not going to tell her about Metatron. Do you hear me?"
"Whatever you say, Dean."
Sam watched as Kevin left the kitchen and put a hand on Dean's arm. When the oldest Winchester stopped and turned to look at his brother Sam said, "Do you really think she could be working with Metatron?"
"The timing kind of fits doesn't it."
Sam had nothing to say to that. Maybe Dean's reluctance to trust her was more than just past issues. He just wished he knew why he did not feel the same way. Unsure he followed his brother out of the kitchen and down the hall.
Shiloh did not have to be an angel to hear them coming down the hall. Sam must be home because Dean would not have come back so soon after spending two hours yelling at her about everything she let happen to them. Gathering energy, she willed her corporeal body back into place in an effort to appease the older Winchester.
"Prophet," Shiloh says in greeting.
"It's Kevin."
"It is. But it is also The Prophet, a title of respect and admiration. You should not be ashamed of it."
"I'm not ashamed of it. I just did not want it to be all I was. I had a life before I was the prophet."
Shiloh was sympathetic for the boy. He was a normal kid doing normal things and now he was expected to be extra special. "I know. But tell me something Kevin, what super hero actually wanted to be a hero. Superman wanted a normal life with Lois. Batman just wanted his city to be safe. Wasn't it Spiderman's uncle who said with great power comes great responsibility."
"I don't want the power or the responsibility."
"How many of them wanted the power they had. Didn't most of them try to get rid of it at one time or another?"
Dean scoffed and said, "Really are you writing for the hallmark channel here? We're guys and we don't have chick flick moments."
For just a moment, Shiloh wanted to shake Dean until his teeth rattled. In the short time, Kevin had found out about his destiny his life had been destroyed with nothing to look forward too. The kid needed a little bit of perspective and that was what she was trying to do. "Well Dean it's a good thing I am a chick. It will make things a little less awkward."
She watched as both Sam and Kevin tried to keep a straight face both failing. She then turned her attention back to Dean. His posture had change from being annoyed with them to being out right pissed off. Shiloh was instantly sorry that she pushed him but at the same time, her patience wasn't infinite and that boy was pushing as hard as he could. She decided to change the subject. "Kevin have you translated the first part of the wall?"
"Yes but..."
"But the angel tablet, right? It's not as important as the wall."
Sam saw Dean's expression and moved to intercede. "What do you mean not as important? Why wouldn't opening heaven back up be as important?"
"Heaven will be fixed. But the writing on the wall supersedes what is on the tablet. Metatron doesn't know what's on the wall. It was hand written after he left heaven."
Dean who had been leaning up against the door moved deeper into the room even though it was a tight fit. "Who wrote it?"
Shiloh just smiled and allowed the humans to come to the right conclusion.
It was Kevin who said it. "God?"
Shiloh just nodded.
Dean looked skeptical as usual but Sam thought about it for a moment. "Kevin what did it say?"
"Something about banished ones and buying their freedom. I don't remember all of it. I was only killing time waiting for you to come and get me. Let me go and get the notebook."
Dean watched Kevin leave the room and then pinned Shiloh with a hard stare one that made normal people and monsters pause for a moment. "Why now?"
Shiloh shrugged knowing it was a human thing to do. "Why not now? All of the necessary components are in effect. If something hadn't happened the way it did it probably never would have been found. Or maybe just waited a few more generations."
Kevin walked back into the room holding a three ringed binder. He was so intent reading the writing on the page he missed the look passed between the brothers. "Okay guys, I could only make out a little bit of it from the internet. I am going to have to get more pictures if you want me to translate the rest."
Dean motioned for the prophet to continue and said, "If we figure out what it means and if it applies to us then we will work on it."
"What it says is ... To mark the beginning of a great tribulation the lofty places will be purged and the gates sealed.
"Oh hell," Dean intoned. "Are we talking about Metatron casting the angels out of heaven?"
Sam shook his head unsure.
Kevin continued, " To bring back balance and restore former glory it is foretold banished ones must return from exile.
Their freedom bought with the sacrifice of four. Blood and teeth from the child of the mother. Pain and Power from a son of the fallen. Will and heart from the brother of Adam. Grace and light belonging to the celestial offspring.
To end the reign of terror and deceit a leader must cast aside an obsession and a fallen one will see a truth hidden long ago."
All three humans turned to Shiloh and said, "What does it mean?"
In tandem with this story I am writing one shots where Shiloh and Ruben have interacted with the brothers without them knowing it. The first one (does not have to be read in any order) Is Angels on Main Street.
Reviews are appreciated ...A LOT the kind of make my day
