"Everything will be fine"
Mai and Taishou stared at their mother as she paced nervously in front of them.
The twins looked at each other worriedly, today was the day they were going to meet their father for the first time. They were nervous, but apparently not as nervous as their mother was.
"Mama? What are you so nervous about?" asked Mai in a small voice. Honestly Mai was scared, all she could think was 'what if he doesn't like me?'.
Kagome stopped pacing and turned towards the twins, her nervousness melting away as she took in the looks on both their faces. Mai had a worried look on her face as she rung out a small part of her dress, while Taishou had what looked like a permanent scowl set on his face and his arms crossed.
In that moment all Kagome could do was giggle. Walking over to the couch her children were sitting on she plopped down in between them.
"Mama! That's not nice!" Said Mai and Taishou simultaneously. After a few seconds Mai joined her mother with giggles of her own, Taishou snickered and unfolded his arms.
"Today will be fine. Mai I know you're nervous but there is nothing for you to be nervous about, your father will love you exactly for who you are. So that means no acting like the person you think he wants you to be, ok?"
Mai looked at her mother thoughtfully before nodding, a slow shy smile making its way onto her face.
Turning to Taishou, whose scowl had deepened Kagome sighed deeply before asking, "What's wrong Taishou?"
Crossing his arms again and looking away he mumbled a quick 'nothing', slouching further into the couch.
"He's scared too." Said Mai with a snort.
Taishou quickly jumped from the couch, glaring at Mai, and snarled at her. "I'm not afraid of anything!"
"TAISHOU!" Yelled Kagome jumping up from the couch to tower over Taishou, whose eyes held a hint of red around them. "Don't EVER dare to speak to your sister that way again"
Mai coward behind her mother, scared at seeing her brother like this and seeing her mother so mad.
The hint of red automatically disappeared from Taishou's eyes, replaced with a look of guilt. Whimpering slightly Taishou ran into his mothers already open arms and hugged her, tears running down his face, as if she were his life line.
"I'm sorry, I'm really really sorry mama. I didn't mean to get so mad."
"It's ok sweet heart, I know you didn't mean to" said Kagome bending down to hug Taishou. "But remember what we talked about, this goes for you too Mai," Kagome said, turning to pull Mai into her arms along with Taishou. "You both need to wear your bracelets, it keeps your demon blood from surfacing and you from hurting yourself or anyone else."
After a few moments they slowly stood up from the embrace, the twins both standing in front of their mother. "Now, before we head out to see your father, let me see your bracelets." Said Kagome sternly.
Both twins automatically stuck out their hands, Mai's bracelet had two small diamonds held together with a thin gold chain and in between them was a white opal stone. While Taishou's bracelet had two granite stones with a white opal stone, which currently had a crack in it,between them held together on a thin gold chain.
Kagome bent down and grabbed Taishou's hand gently, inspecting the bracelet. 'Holy fuck' thought Kagome giving Taishou a concerned look, "Tai, how did you get a crack in your bracelet?"
With a confused look on his face Taishou pulled his hand back from his mothers grasp and inspected the bracelet himself, "That wasn't there before, I swear!" Said Taishou looking at his mother with a panicked look on his face, stepping away from her as if he'd been burned. "OH MY KAMI! Am I gonna hurt someone?! Am I gonna kill someone?! What if I kill someone?! I CAN'T GO TO JAIL, I'M TOO YOUNG TO GO TO JAIL! THEY'LL BEAT ME UP FOR MY LUNCH MONEY! THEY'll-" Taishou stopped yelling and turned to his mother and sister at the sound of their laughter.
"Oi! It's not funny mama!"
Hearing Taishou say that sent Kagome and Mai into another fit of laughter. After a few more seconds of laughter both stopped and composed themselves and looked at the now sulking boy.
"I'm sorry sweet heart, it's just everything you said was so-"
"Hilarious" filled in Mai.
Taishou huffed and crossed his arms as he plopped down on the couch, glaring over at his mother and sister, waiting for their laughter to slowly die down to giggles.
After getting their giggles under control the trio left the house and headed to the dinner where they would meet up with Inuyasha.
Walking towards the dinner, Kagome noticed the lack of people immediately. Baba's was usually a very lively place, having worked there during her freshmen year of high school and before leaving to live with her father, she knew first hand they had amazing food and service. To see no one around was unsettling.
"Mai, Taishou, stay close and stay behind me."
Both children looked up worriedly at their mother as they felt a barrier surround them. Mai sniffed the air and noticed that their scents were gone, looking at Taishou she saw him notice the same thing.
Making their way towards the entrance of the dinner the trio slowly entered only to be surprised by Inuyasha standing near the entrance, with his back to them, looking extremely nervous.
Kagome immediately dropped her barrier, still confused as to why Inuyasha seemed to be the one in the dinner. The twins hesitantly peaked around their mother, just in time to see a tall man with silver hair and dog ears dressed in a white dress shirt,with the sleeves rolled to the elbow, and grey slacks turn towards them.
With all of the nervous thoughts going through his head Inuyasha failed to notice Kagome and the twins walk in until he suddenly smelled them. Turning around quickly with a nervous smile on his face Inuyasha couldn't help but stare at the two heads of silver hair peaking out curiously from behind Kagome. The boy, Taishou, had short silver hair with dog ears atop his head and sapphire blue eyes like his mother. The girl, Amaira, had curly silver hair that stop midway down her back with dog ears atop her head and gold eyes just like him. 'They have Kagome's nose' thought Inuyasha, a small smile on his face.
Kagome let Inuyasha have a moment to look at the twins, a warm feeling coming over her at the look of contentment on his face as he looked at the twins before quickly shaking it off and looking down at the twins, who were looking back at their father with a mix of curiosity, excitement and worry. 'Might as well break the ice' thought Kagome. Reaching behind her and softly pushing the twins forward. Both who automatically looked back at their mother with worried looks on both their faces, after a reassuring smile from her both turned towards their father to introduce themselves.
With a deep breath Tai stepped forward first. "Hello, I'm Inutaishou", followed by Mai who bowed in greeting. "Hi, I'm Amaira". Both stared up at their father, waiting to finally hear his voice.
Inuyasha lowered himself to their height, staring at them for a few moments before engulfing them in a hug, slowing inhaling their scents, committing them to memory.
