Chapter 9:
Zeke's POV
I almost died. I almost had my throat slit open. I just saw David die. What happened to Four and Cara? All of these thoughts are racing around inside of my head as I try to comprehend what just happened. My normally cheery self is gone and is now replaced with a kind of depressed self. I'm worrying too much. I keep telling myself that, but I can't stop. Stop it Zeke! Get ahold of yourself. You're never going to get out of here, if you do this to yourself. I mentally slap myself.
I don't know how long I've been in here. It feels like days, but It has probably only been a couple hours. I hear a commotion outside of the room and I run over to the door. I put my ear up against the cold metal of the door.
"Tobias!" I hear a familiar voice yell.
"Tris!" I hear Four's voice yell back.
I hear a struggle and then I hear Tris yell, "I love you! Don't ever forget that!"
Everything goes silent. A few minutes later a door slams shut. Four and Tris are alive. They're okay, for now. At hearing their voices my mood instantly perks up a bit. A second later, my door opens. I was still pressed up against the door, so I topple over. I try to stand up and run, but the guard grabs me before I can move. He makes a tsking sound and starts to walk, with me in tow.
The hallway seems never ending. After what seems like forever, we finally stop at a door marked Testing. At seeing the sign, I start to feel a little nauseous. This can't be good. The guard opens the door and leads me into a small looking room. Every step we take into the room, makes me feel worse. My stomach feels like a knot being pulled tighter and tighter with every step. This can't be a good sign. As I'm led into the room, I see a chair. I start to squirm in the guards ever tight grip. No matter what I do, his grip doesn't falter.
He makes me sit in the chair and straps me down so I can't escape. I squirm and wiggle in the chair, trying to find a way out, but nothing works. The door opens and a tall looking women walks in. When I get a good look at her, I realize that she looks familiar. As she walks over to me, I rack my brain for answers of why she looks familiar to me.
She's now standing in front of me with a smirk plastered to her face. That's when I put two and two together. As the memories come back to me, I finally remember her.
"Amy," I say in a whisper.
"Hello, Ezekiel. It's been forever since I've seen you. I've missed you so much," She says in a slightly menacing tone. She hasn't changed a bit since the last time I saw her when I was 12.
"Well that's funny, because I haven't missed you at all," I say glaring at her. I hated her for doing what she did.
"How dare you speak to me like that!" She yells, clenching her fists slightly.
"I have every right after what you did to my father," I say calmly.
I was 12 when it happened. I was hiding in my bedroom, tears threatening to spill onto my cheeks. My aunt Amy and my dad were fighting again. Why can't they just stop? The screaming stopped and I gathered up the courage to go out and see what happened. As I stepped out of my bedroom and into the living room, the sight I saw was horrific. My aunt was pointing a gun at my dad. A tear slipped down my cheek but I wiped it away. My dad held his hands up in the air a terrified look in his eye.
I just stood there and watched it happen. Her finger was on the trigger, an evil smile playing on her lips. Before I could say a thing the gun went off. Bang! She pulled the trigger again. Bang! I looked over at my dad, a look of shock on his face. Two spots of red began to bloom on his chest. He fell to the ground with a heavy thud. I raced over to where his body lay. I kneeled down in front of him, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Dad!" I screamed. It's the only word I could get out.
Struggling for breath he said in a low whisper, " Son….I love you so, so much"
My face was wet with all of the tears. I grabbed his hand and squeezed. He squeezed back and said his last words to me.
"Be brave." His hand went limp in mine and his eyes glazed over.
"No! Dad! wake up! Wake up!" I shook him, trying to wake him up, but I never got a reaction. He just layed there lifeless. I look behind me to see my aunt walking out the door. Before she walked out entirely she looked back, right at me. She smiled evilly at me and then slammed the door. I sobbed and shouted. I cried harder than I have ever cried before. At that moment my life changed. Forever. I vowed to myself, that I would look out for my little brother Uriah and my mother. I would do whatever it took to protect them.
I snapped out of my flashback, tears threatening to spill over. I quickly blinked away the tears. Zeke Pedrad does not cry. I looked Amy in the eyes and said venom dripping off of my words, "I will never forgive you for what you did. I don't care that we're technically related. You are not my family."
For a moment she looks dumbfounded, but quickly puts on a angry looking face. A face no one wants to see. She gives a quick wave of her hand and before I know it the guard stabs me in the neck with a needle. A stinging sensation fills my neck and the only thing I see is blackness.
The next thing I know is that I'm standing on a beach. The sand is soft beneath my feet. the sky is pinkish orange. The noise of the waves washing up on the shore is almost soothing. I look around me and I can't believe my eyes. Uriah is standing right here. This must be a trick because Uriah is dead. I must be going crazy.
"What, your not even going to say hi?" He jokes. I missed all of his jokes and pranks As irritating as they may be, that's what made Uriah, well Uriah. I hug him, a smile forming on my face. I pull back and take in his features. He's still the same as he was a year ago. I turn around for a second and when I look back, he's gone. There's no evidence that he was ever there. I am filled with a sudden sadness and despair.
I close my eyes and when I open them, I'm not on the beach anymore. I'm in the cold, white room, strapped into a chair. I'm about to say something to Amy but am interrupted by the door slamming open. I'm shocked at the people I see standing in the doorway.
Cliffhanger! I'm having a lot of issues in my life right now, so I am so very sorry if the next chapter does not get uploaded soon, but I will try my hardest.
