Song of the chapter: I'm on Fire by AWOLNATION

As Austin drags us back into the mostly empty waiting room, even though he's quiet, I can tell that he's falling apart at the seams. I don't let go of his hand as he checks us in. A few moments later, a nurse comes (requested by Austin) to fill us in on exactly what is happening with Holland.

"She lost quite a bit of blood, which for an adult wouldn't have be a problem; but because your niece is so small, we were required to start immediate surgery-" the older woman starts.

"Is she going to be okay?" Austin interrupts. I nudge him slightly and he apologizes.

"I completely understand your concern Mr…." she trails off

"Moon."

"-Mr. Moon, but I can assure you that your niece is going to be alright. Once she's out of surgery, we will continue to take good care of her." The nurse smiles. Austin nods but reverts back to being silent.

Finally letting go of his hand, I stand up to thank the nurse. "Thank you for your help. You'll have to excuse my friend, I'm sorry. He's super close to his niece, and I guess this is all a bit hard to handle." I say. The woman smiles again.

"I see this stuff all the time, honey. I understand." She says politely. When she walks away, I sit back down next to Austin who now looks quite distraught. I wrap my hand around his arm and sigh. I can honestly say, I have never felt as helpless as I do right now. I'm so used to being the peacemaker and cheering everybody up, but there is absolutely nothing I can do to help this situation. In the time that we wait for updates on Holland, Dakota and Logan rejoin us in the small room. Luckily everyone stays civil. To pass the time, I decide to text Trish, even though I know she's still sleeping.

Me 4:40am

Hey. Just though I'd let you know I'm at the hospital with Austin. Sorry if I woke you up…

Five minutes later she replies.

Trish 4:45am

One: I am very pissed that you woke me up at four in the morning

Two: WHY ARE AT THE HOSPITAL? IS HE OK? DOES DEZ KNOW WHERE YOU GUYS ARE!?

Me 4:47am

Actually, we're in the Miami Children's Hospital… for Austin's niece. Yes he has a niece so you don't have to repeat what I just said. She and her 'parental figures' got into a car accident and she lost a lot of blood. Anyways the poor thing is in surgery now and Austin's really upset

Trish 4:47am

Oh my gosh. I hope everything is ok. Again, does my boyfriend know what's going on too? Should I tell him? Do you want us to meet you guys down there? Also, what's Austin's niece's name?

Despite the seriousness, I crack a smile. Trish sure has a way with words.

Me 4:46am

I don't think Dez knows anything, but I think Austin should tell him. No, you don't have to come to the hospital. And her name is Holland. She's 4 :(

Trish 4:49

That's so sad… tell Austin I said I hope everything turns out alright. Call me later?

Me 5:00am

I will, and I will. Go back to sleep now, princess.

I guess she listened to my advice, because she doesn't reply after that. I look up at Austin. His eyes are closed, but I can tell he isn't sleeping. I give his arm a light squeeze and he opens his eyes.

"How are you holding up?"

"Better… kind of."

I contemplate on whether or not to ask my next question, but decide to just go for it.

"Can you tell me about Holland? What she's like?" I ask. I don't know why, but u feel shy asking him about his niece. Weird.

Austin smiles a little. "She's the most adorable little thing you'll ever meet. That's an automatic given." He says. "She's can be shy sometimes. But other times she'll be the most outgoing kid in the world."

"What's her favorite color?" Austin laughs at this.

"Does rainbow count? She's in love with every color ever thought of. Literally, she'd be ecstatic if her room was dark green or if it were bright pink. She'd be in love it either way."

"What does she like to do?"

"Anything that involves getting messy. She's a lot like Brett in that way."

"What does she look like?"

Austin's face lights up. "She's beautiful," he gushes. It makes me happy to hear him talk so passionately about this little girl. It's obvious that he adores her. "She has curly blonde hair, like my sister, these big brown eyes that are just adorable, and her little button nose… she'll have you wrapped around her finger like that." Austin pauses to snap his fingers, making me giggle. He looks much more relaxed than he was just a few minutes ago and it makes me happy. Though it doesn't last long when a doctor walks into the waiting area. His face is impassive, so I have no idea what he's about to tell us. Logan and Dakota spring from their seats to stand next to us.

"I assume you all are here for Holland Castaldo?" he asks. We all nod nervously. The doctor sighs and takes his glasses of. Can't he just get on with it? Jeez.

"Well?" Dakota asks impatiently.

"The surgery went perfectly. We were able to stop the bleeding and take care of the problem."

Oh thank God.

"But she has a few broken bones in her right arm. We put her in a cast, and she seems to be doing well." The doctor says. Everyone visibly relaxes.

"Can we see her?" Austin asks hopefully. Still with an uninterested expression, the doctor nods.

"Room 149."

Austin is up and moving in no time, and I run to catch up. For a guy in a leg brace, he moves pretty damn fast.

"Hey! Hey, wait, Austin!" I run to his side. I'm mildly aware that the James' are following close behind. He slows down, taking a deep breath.

"Sorry Alls. I Just really need to get to Holland." He says as we turn a corner. When we reach the room, the door is already propped slightly open. Before any of us enter, Austin turns to face Logan and Dakota. "I don't want you two anywhere near my niece. But for right now, I'm making an exception. After all this is over, Holland is coming back home with me. Understood?"

Even I'm a little hesitant to speak up. Austin tilts his head to the side and raises his eyebrows.

"Did I stutter or are you just guys deaf?"

"We understand. We're really sorry Austin." Logan says quietly. Austin's expression hardens.

"I'm not the one you need to be apologizing to, now am I?"

Nobody says anything else, so we enter the room. I'm relieved when all I see is very tiered looking little girl, snoozing away. Aside from a few cuts on her cheek, and obviously the huge bandage around her little body, she looks perfectly okay. Austin rushes to her side and carefully holds her hand. He whispers something to her, and she stirs, but doesn't wake up. When Austin kisses head, I feel a tear streak down my cheek. Then another one. And then another.

Why on earth am I crying? I think to myself. Oh yeah, because the little girl who could very well be calling me Aunty Ally almost died tonight.

Wait, what!? No, no, no, no, no! That's ridiculous. Okay, Austin and I don't even have those kind of feelings for each other. Well… Austin doesn't. Whatever, I think I'm sleep deprived. Shaking my head I take a seat in one of the chairs next to Dakota.

I don't think I like her very much... I think as I drift into a much needed sleep.

Thanks for reading!

As always feel free to leave a review and stay amazing!

Until next time. :)
