I'd like to apologize for the long stent of me not writing in my DC stories. I need to give my Earth 97 readers more love than what I am. So if I don't put up a story in two months of the last one, feel free to call me out. Also, I'm going to stray a little more from the episode since I know the general plot.
Disclaimer: I do not own DCAU, Earth 16, Teen Titans, or any of their characters.
I stood outside the main entrance to the lab I had just stopped from being robbed a few hours ago. 'Who would have thought I'd end up robbing a place I protected?'
Ipulled the mask over my UN gelled hair and grappled to the roof of the lab. Once there I looked around, looking for the access grate I saw on the blueprint.
After about a minute I found it and knelt down in front of it, taking out a small metal dome with my new suits symbol on it. I placed it inside and pushed down the top, activating a red flash.
'that gives me three minutes.' I thought to myself as I pulled off the vent cover. Once removed I jumped feet first into the square vent, my arms above my head, not that there wasn't enough room for me to put them by my side. About halfway down I launched a grapnel hook from my new gloves, cutting my decent speed in half.
Almost a minute later I was above the grate to the wrecked lab I had been guarding earlier today. I put my feet on the side of the vent, then my left hand, and then finally I brought the grapnel back into my glove putting my hand in position at the same time.
'One minute left.' I thought, looking down at the two armored guards below me. They had no idea what was about to happen, and I felt a little bad about that. 'These guys might lose their job over this.'
A minute later the alrms went off and the guards quickly ran to the door, leaving the chip unguarded. I pushed myself up and pointed my toes as I slammed into the grate, landing on my feet in front of the chip.
I grabbed the chip and looked it over. I activated my detective vision and saw no information about this chip had been uploaded into the Justice League database. 'Why do these guys want a computer chip?'
The door behind me exploded and the two guards burst back in, I quickly dropped a smoke pellet and launched a grapnel in response, but it would not be easy to get out of this place.
Once half way up the vent, I was out of line. 'I didn't plan this out as well as I thought.' I said to myself, looking down at the room below. 'Good thing I have two grapnels though.'
I launched my second grapnel and climbed out of the square hole in the roof. When I got a transmission from my team.
I took off my mask, hiding behind one of the coolant systems. 'Good thing I decided to wear both my masks for this mission.'
"Hey team, what's going on?" I said, speaking into the holographic image hovering above my wrist.
"Someone just broke back into that lab, we can handle it though." Cyborg answered, reassuring me that my cover was fine. "What's up with your hair by the way?"
"Didn't have time to gell it before I went back out." I said, trying to dodge the question. "I'm working a Ravager lead on the other side of town, you sure you can handle this without me."
"No problem" Cyborg answered, not missing a beat. I nodded in response, then closed the communication.
'Time to get back to work.' I thought, pulling the mask back over my head, pulling the hair out from under it.
I flipped over the coolent system and spun in midair, making sure I'd be facing my team.
"You working for Deathstroke tough guy?" Cybor asked, arming his sonic canon as the team stood behind.
"The Renegade works alone." I answered, throwing a new shuriken that looked more like my logo.
Cyborg blasted it out of the air, and forced me to jump into the air. I quickly through two handfuls of Shurrikin at Cyborg, forcing him to retreat. Then Beast boy came at me turning into a lion, I then through a small red capsul that burst on contact with Beastboy, turning into a red adhesive that covered his body. Star and raven came next, Star shooting star bolts at me sending me into a black talon the size of my dresser. Luckily I avoided both, then through a bolas around stars arms and another that gagged ravens mouth. Cyborg tried to attack me from behind but I flipped over him and put another dome on his back, shutting down all movements.
"Who told you how to shut me down?" He asked as I pushed him onto the metal roof.
I ran towards the edge and jumped off, Cyborg yelling after me. I then opened up my arms to reveal read gliders under them.
I sat in front of my computer, waiting for the communication I sent out to be answered. When it was I saw a lean built man in a helmet, his features obscured in shadows.
"Rumor has it you're interested in this." I said, holding up the red chip, forcing my voice to sound deeper than usual.
"I'm interested in many things Mr…." he answered, tilting his head slightly as if to ask a question.
"Renegade, The Renegade." I answered, remembering what I called myself on the roof of the lab.
"hmmm, catchy." He said a hint of approval in his voice. "So are you proposing a sale, or a gift?"
"A partnership, with your son." I said, looking at him without a hint of emotion in my face. "I give you the chip, you cut me in on your plans."
"A partnership, my, my, we are ambitious." He said, his voice sounding as if he was talking to a child. "But an alliance cannot be formed by one small gift. If you want to earn my trust, and Ravagers, We'll require more."
"Just tell me what you want." I said, my eyes narrowing at the man's calmness, his unchanging pose.
I stood in the Towers kitchen, facing my team. "I had no idea The Renegade would have posed such a threat." I said, my eyes watching as Kori cut some of the adhesive out of Garfield's hair. "I should have been there."
"You bet you should have been there." He said, looking angrily at me. "Look what he did to my due; I'm looking a two months of bad hair days."
Raven made some odd sounds through the still unremoved gag, pointing at it as she did so.
"I don't know Raven, that's kind of a good look for you." Garfield said with a smirk on his face. Raven just glared at him as usual though.
"Hold still." Cyborg said, ripping the rope off, which stuck to his fingers due to the adhesive I put on it.
"Ow." She said, putting her hand to the marks around her face. "Even if you had been there, it wouldn't have made any difference."
"Dude knew exactly how to take each of us down." Victor said, holding up the dome I had put on his back. "I guarantee he had a gadget with your name on it."
"Indeed." Kori said, looking up from Garfield's hair. "You need not feel guilt. We are undamaged."
"Heeeloooo." Garfield said, sitting up straighter and pointing to his mest-up hair.
"Mostly undamaged." Kori corrected, smiling large in apology to Garfield. "And we are all eager to learn what you have discovered about Deathstroke, and this Ravager."
"Nothing." I answered, not dancing around the truth like I would have back when I was thirteen. "The lead was a dead end, I should get back to work."
I turned towards the door and started walking towards it, not even bothering with small talk. I had a mission and I was going to finish it.
I opened up a communication stream to hear Beast Boy talking about me filling out notcards at the public library.
"I was." I said, completely lying to my friends faces. "then I spotted The Renegade pulling a robbery at the tech center. I'm on it, get here as soon as you can."
"You got it dude." Beast Boy said, almost asleep at this point, drool pouring out of his mouth.
I hung up and yet again put on The Renegade mask. I had started to get used to the way this suit worked, it was far more efficient than my Robin suit.
After about twelve minutes of waiting I saw my team arrive in one of the allys below the building I was on, so I activated my hologram by throwing a metal ball. I ran and it followed, I jumped off a roof and onto the ally floor it did the same. About halfway down the alley I through a red net at my hologram and it wrapped around, sending him flying back, of course it was a holographic net.
"robin." Cyborg said, looking at my hologram with worry.
"I'm fine, get The Renegade." It shouted, pointing towards me as I ran to a back alley subway entrance.
Once in the subway station I grappled to the ceiling, hoping my team mates wouldn't think to look there.
When they got down here they started to search for me, luckily not on the ceiling though.
Cyborg looked in my direction, and I couldn't risk him having seen me in his peripheral vision so I jumped down and punched him in the face, sending him back a few feet.
"it's him." Raven said as I dropped a smoke pellet and ran behind Cyborg. I took out another dome as he stood up and placed it on his back again.
"You're gonna have to learn some new tricks dog." He said as I backed away from the none shut down cyborg, sadly though I didn't back away before he could through me across the station and next to my other team mates.
"Surrender, we do not wish to fight you." Star Fire said, putting her hand out to me since I was crouching on my hand.
"Sorry, I'm not through with you yet." I said, jumping into the air immediately afterwards.
I through a shurriken at Star, knowing Raven would block it. When I landed Cyborg charged me, but I easily avoided his punches. When Star flew at me I punched over her, just so she'd run into Cyborg. Best Boy charged me and I flipped over him before he turned into a gorilla, then I jumped towards him kicking him back and me forward into Raven which ended with her on the ground. Beast Boy however did manage to take me by surprise by turning into a ram and well, ramming me in the back. I however grabbed a pillar spun my self around so that I could kick Beast Boy in the face, he barely managed to dodge the attack and recover himself before I punched him in the face and sent him flying onto the tracks.
Then something I didn't want to happen did. A train started to pull into the station. I jumped down and pulled him out of the way, landing on the other side. We both stood up and watched as the train dilibratly avoided stopping.
"Dude, did you just save me?" Beast Boy asked, looking at me. I kicked in the chest, sending across the floor.
Finally I left the station, having proved that they weren't a match for me.
I sat at my desk again, looking at my computer, except this time Ravager was the one on the screen.
"Impressive, for a newbie." He said, a hint of jealousy in his voice. "I hacked the security camera to watch your performance. You treated the Titans to quite a show."
"Glad you enjoyed it." I said, trying my best not to portray my hatred for the man in front of me. Is the audition over?"
"Patients renegade." He said, an air of arrogants in his voice. "trust is easy to destroy, but it takes time to build. "Prove yourself and we'll meet, to discuss your future." The transmition ended.
"Good, it's about time we met face to face." I said, pulling my mask off of my face. 'How does Batman wear these things all the time?"
I rummaged through one of the evidence boxes on Deathstroke I had been gathering as I walked across the living room.
"Robin, what joy." Star Fire said in her usual cheery demeanor. "Our efforts to find The Renegade will benefit greatly from your help."
"It'll have to wait." I said, walking out of the room. "I'm close to a breakthrough with Deathstroke."
Star Fire continued to talk, but I didn't have time for her right now, this was my last test before I met Deathstroke.
I walked into the Wayne enterprise lab in Jump city wearing my civilian clothes. I had decided to go in as Dick Grayson, and come out as The Renegade.
Once I reached my desired floor I ripped off my clothes and put on my mask gloves and utility belt, which weren't easy to smuggle past security.
I walked into the dark room to see a green chip floating in the same white light that all the others had been in, so I walked up to take it.
"Excelent work." I heard Deathstrokes voice say from behind me. He had somehow managed to get a spotlight on him as well.
He was wearing a full black body suit with knee high orange boots. He had chainmail on his neck that overlapped his chest as well. His forearms and biceps were also covered in the same metal, ending at his gloves. He had metal plates on his outer thigh and on his gloves, the ladder of which was attached to two hooked blades. Around his waist was a grey utility belt with a halv black half orange glip, an eye on the orange one. Then there was his helmet. The right and the jaw line were completely black while the left was orange. The right didn't have a place for the one sided glass that was in the other, but they both had the covered slits. On his back was a sword, and what looked like a semi-automatic rifle.
"Honestly I couldn't have done better myself." Said a younger yet similar voice that was on the other side of me.
"So, do we have a deal." I asked, turning around to face Ravager, who was also in a spotlight.
"Indeed, you and I are so very much alike." Ravager said his voice as calm and nuteral as his fathers. "It seems only natural that we should be partners."
The man put out his hand for the chips. Of course I wasn't quite ready to comply too this.
"What are they for?" I asked, holding the chips close to my face. "I need to know what we're planning, partner."
"Patients." Deathstroke said, forcing me to turn around again. "You can't expect me to trust you with such sensitive information right away, can you, Robin."
I heard an air gun shoot and felt a net brush across my hand. When I looked at it the chips were gone.
The lights turned on and I saw that I was alone with these two. All the cameras and security protocol had been taken down by something shaped like a bullet.
I took a fighting stance, facing Deathstroke instead of Ravager. Before the fight could begin however the lights turned off.
I felt a hand against my throat and then the cold steel of the walls. "You stole from the wrong building scum bag."
I recognized the voice instantly, after years of hearing it, it was hard not to. My former mentor was stopping me from defeating Deathstroke.
"Let me go!" I shouted, activating my shock gloves and sending Batman backwards. "We need to catch Deathstroke!"
"why would you want your partner captured?" Batman asked as he kicked at my head. I was able to dodge and get in a none electrified punch, but it didn't faze the Dark Knight.
"He's not my partner." I said as I was being thrown across the room. I managed to draw my escrimas after I landed, but I still couldn't see the Dark Knight, so I activated my night vision.
Batman swung at me again but I dodged, spinning behind him and shocking him with my Escrima.
"Batman, it's me!" I shouted, pulling off my Renegade mask. "We need to catch Deathstroke and Ravager."
"Robin?" He said, looking at me in shock, which was hard to see through the cowl. "What are you doing?"
"It's not important." I said, putting my escrimas back on my back. "We need to catch them, now."
"Batgirl is going after them." He said, his voice still in shock, and didn't sound like the bats. "And that wasn't a good idea was it."
"No, he's a trained killer, we need to save her." I said, turning around and heading towards the door.
When I got out I turned right to see Deathstrok choking Batgirl, her yellow boots dangling off the floor. I through one of my shurrikin but Deathstork took out his half black half bronze sword and sliced it in half. He then turned around and jumped out the window and onto a shorter building that still had girders in place.I jumped down after him, keeping my eyes out for Ravager.
"Careful, I wouldn't want you getting hurt." He said, casually watching me.
"I'm not the one who's going to get hurt." I said, drawing my escrima again. "Now hand them over."
"Robin, I thought we had a deal." He said, reaching behind his back with his left hand.
"Sorry, I have a strict rule about giving stolen technology to psychos." I said, still ready for him to strike at any moment.
"How very noble of." He said, enetiating a circling pattern. "But steeling to try and trap me, two wrongs don't make a…"
"Don't ever lecture me!" I shouted, dropping my fighting stance. "Whatever you have planned Deathstroke, is over."
"On the contrary Robin, it's just begun." He said, pulling a steel cylinder out from behind his back, out of the cylinder came a full length bow staff.
We both charged, ready for a fight we'd never forget. He swung at me and I flipped over him, I went for a jab he swiped it away, he stabbed at me I flipped away. I swung two more times at him, both of which he dodged. He then pointed his staff at me, and a shot was fired from the opposite end, I was then flung across the roof top, landing on my hands and knees near the edge.
I stood up and ran towards Deathstroke, jumping at him for a kick which he dodged. I jabbed at him with my escrima and he backed away, I took a swing and he moved around me. Then he hit me with the but of his staff and sent me backwards. I was able to dodge the next swing and kick back at him, but he just dodged it again. This process continued for a while until he collapsed his staff grabbed my punch and jammed me in the gut, he then through me towards the edge where I let go of my escrimas and held on for dear life.
The ledge grumbled and I fell, before Deathstroke grabbed my arm, looking down at me.
"You, saved me?" I asked, looking at the man, confused out of my mind at what had just happened.
"I'm not through with you." He said, a touch of anger in his voice, as if he was angry I had fallen.
He pulled me up with so much force that I landed on the girders, then I jumped down, ready for some hand to hand combat. I rolled and kicked at the man before I got up to see him standing un scaved a few feet away. I swung at him again, only for him to walk around me; I flipped over him, and finally landed a solid blow, sending him across the roof.
"this ends now." I said, twisting the domes on the side of his helmet to reveal a video of Deathstroke and Ravager.
"Patients Robin." Deathstroke said, his voice as calm as ever. "We'll meet face to face some other time."
"Speaking of time." Ravage said, pushing a button in his hand, the number five appearing on the screen. I jumped away, and the robot that I had unmasked exploded.
"What were you thinking Robin!?" Batman shouted from behind me. "what could have possibly gone on inside your head!?"
"Batman, I'm sure he had a good reason?" Batgirl said, looking up at her mentor. "Didn't you Robin."
"I did, but it wasn't good enough." I said, looking down at the suit I had made. "This was a mistake, and I'm not going to make it again."
"It's not my place to judge anyways." Batman said, calmness returning to his voice. "I'll meet you back at the Batcave."
Batman jumped off the roof top, leaving Bat Girl and I alone.
"You cut your hair." I said, noticing that instead of her usual pony tail she had a pixie cut. "It's nice."
"It's better to fight crime with." She said, feeling the back of her head with her yellow gloves. "You should get back to your team."
"You're right; they're probably still looking for the Renegade." I said, looking at my black boots.
"I'll see you in two weeks Rob." She said, jumping off the roof. A few seconds later I heard the sound of a motorcycle rev up and drive off.
I stood in my office, looking at the news clipping that covered the wall, thinking of all the people who had yelled at me. I think the only Titans who hadn't were Star and Raven, but they tended to be a little more quiet than the others when they were mad.
'Maybe it's a girl thing.' I thought still looking at the clippings, not seeing them the way I had in the past few days, they weren't as connected as I thought.
The door opened and Star walked in, not making any noise, waiting for me to talk first.
"Have you come to yell at me too?" I asked, looking at the one thing I'd been able to salvage from the explosion, deathstrokes face mask. "Everyone else has, and I can't blame them."
"I do not wish to yell, merely to understand." She said, walking up to me as I turned to lean against the wall. "Robin, why did you not tell us the truth?"
"I needed to fool Deathstroke." I said, turning my head to look at Star. "If you guys knew it was me under that mask, you would have held back. It doesn't matter anyways, Deathstroke figured it out, and I can't figure out anything about him."
"That is not true." Star Fire said, her voice filled with saidness. "Whoever Deathstrok is, you and he are similar. "Deathstroke did not trust you, and you did not trust us."
Ravager
"To bad the Bat showed up, or we could have had that kid." I said as my father sat down in his chair.
"We accomplished what I wanted." Deathstroke said, looking at the screen. "A matter of fact, we can almost commence the next phase of my plan."
"And what's that?" I asked, looking at my father in confusion. "We haven't even taken out the Titans."
"taking out the Titans is just a bonus my son, the real goal, is making us a little better know." Deathstrok said, still staring off into space. "Then, we can take our rightfull place as the world's greatest Assasins."
Sorry this chapter was so long, I just wanted to get it over with. Also made some changes to Babs costume. Black cape, yellow lining, yellow boots, visible knee pads, yellow forearm length gloves, yellow bat symbol. Please review this chapter.
