Then Gray said something that she didn't expect him to say. But it made her calm down; relax into his chest, it made her smile. Fall asleep without any worries at all. Lucy believed him.
Even he himself didn't understand it completely, but soon a warm smile covered the surprised look. That's right. That's what he would do, because it felt right.
''I'll protect you''
Gray remembered the words that he had so carelessly said to Lucy who he hadn't even known for a week. She was sleeping. Again. Gray thought that it was kinda unfair to let her sleep practically 24 hours a day, when the four and five year olds got this much less sleep than they normally should sleep. They didn't even get 4 hours.
Well, it wasn't like the older ones didn't let the babies sleep. They could sleep how freaking much they wanted, it wouldn't bother the hunting gang at all. They didn't dare to sleep too much, which seemed logical but still stupid. They didn't have anything to fear in the basement.
He not so gently, packed his only other shirt in the small worn out backpack as he continued to think of other bothersome things. In the background of every other loud noise he could hear the ''companion woman'' give out worthless and stupid orders. More like just walking around and making other feel guilty, sad or useless.
''What are you doing? Small babies like you shouldn't bring weapons. I doubt you would be able to use them anyway; it's us who'll sweat for you all in the end. Don't bring us more trouble.''
''I-I'm sorry, Miss…''
Out of the corner of his eye he could see the blond sitting up. She was finally up and useful again. As gray opened his mouth to talk, he saw Lucy walk in the other direction instead. In the direction of Minerva.
''Oi, don't go around and make them feel bad! She was just trying to help.'' Lucy defended the small girl that seemed to be around 6 years old. Minerva glanced up at the girl who had told her what not to do.
''Oh. You're that girl who wasted our medical supplies.'' Minerva smiled her own cruel smile. ''Besides, can't you see that we're packing? You should do it too, or does it hurt too much?'' Minerva cooed in Lucy's face.
''Wha-!'' Lucy pushed Minerva away from her face, but realized that the witch was already walking away, making Lucy push into nothing but air. Flustered, Lucy glared at the back of Minerva's head, trying to create beams and blow up her head.
Wait. Packing?
Why?
''You should stop that. You look… creepy.'' The voice behind her was familiar; she had heard it one or two hours ago. An image appeared in her head. Dark beautiful eyes, a smirk that in her head seemed naughty. What the hell. Then the hair started to appear. Dark blue hair, almost the same color as the sky would have just before midnight. It was messy in a sexy way.
Lucy looked at the complete picture in her head and choked on her own spit.
Gray?
She turned around and faced the guy that she had just thought as sexy and beautiful. Her cheeks were slightly painted pink as she looked at his dirty face; it was attractive in a way. But she didn't want to say sexy or beautiful. The STOP sign had to appear somewhere, right?
Lucy studied his eyes for a minute. And just like the eyes in the picture, they were dark with a little spark at the side. Cool. Sparks, just like she had always added at Photoshop when she had edited her stupid father. You know; those small 'kawaii' baby sparks.
''Just stop it. Can't you just have a normal expression for once? This is the apocalypse after all.'' Gray looked at her with a raised eyebrow and that added a hotter look to his face. Good, she liked it.
Wait. Had he just said something?
''Sorry, did you say something?'' Lucy said and became red in the face when she realized that she had just admitted that she held some kind of attraction towards the cool guy.
''Nothing important. I was about to tell you what we were doing when you were sleeping.'' He said to her and made it clear that she had been sleeping. Thank you.
''What?... Oh yeah, the bitch said something about packing. Why? Are we moving or something?'' It was Lucy's turn to raise an eyebrow.
''The bitch? Ah, you mean the 'companion woman'?'' He had grinned a little when she had called the bitch, bitch. She knew that because she had been analyzing his manly face.
Lucy nodded at his answered question.
''Yeah, we're going to 'the safe place'.'' Gray made signs with his fingers as he said 'safe place', because honestly, he didn't believe that shit.
''The place Natsu mentioned? I'm sure that he's not lying, he wouldn't earn anything from it. And trust me when I say this, he's not doing things without earning something, be it a friend, some bubblegum, even a cheap toy, just something.'' Lucy said, trying to make Gray trust the pink haired wannabe.
Gray simply nodded before turning around to get back and continue to pack things that could turn out to be handy when they were out of here.
Lucy didn't have anything to pack so she looked around the place and tried to find someone to help. She couldn't help Gray, she would probably be distracted by checking him out and that stuff. Finding someone attractive was still new for her.
Then her eyes landed on a certain group of four teenagers that she hadn't seen in ages. A bluenette, a pinkette, a dark-haired guy and a blonde.
Lucy quickly ran over to the four and saw that they were almost done with their packing.
''Is there anything I can do to help?'' Lucy asked when she had fully reached them.
All four of them turned around and was surprised to find her standing there. But their faces soon changed for the better. Sting was the first to react, sending her a shining smile. Natsu grinned together with Levy, while Rogue gave her a warming smile.
''Yo, Luce! Are you alright now?'' Natsu asked and walked up to her to give her shoulder a light pat. Lucy nodded and smiled back at them.
''Yup! I'm ready to go!'' She lightly giggled as she spoke. As much as she hated and loathed to be outside, she was pretty tired of this place. Lucy had mostly slept, but this place made her feel more locked in than her previous place. The place that had been attacked so suddenly.
The silence that formed between them became weird and uncomfortable, so Lucy did something about it.
''So, something I can do?'' Lucy asked and gestured towards their full bags.
All of them thought for a while, they had pretty much done everything, but Rogue came up with something in the end.
''Why don't you get some blankets, Lucy? I'm sure that there will be much need for them at night.'' He calmly said to her with a relaxed expression.
Lucy agreed with a simple nod. It was hot as hell at day but the nights could be freezing and they wouldn't want the children to freeze to death.
Lucy jogged towards all the supplies that had been gathered a single place so that everyone could get what they needed easier. Of course, there were some 'guards' there to check so that no one took more things than needed.
She reached her goal and asked a young girl that stood guard for some blankets. Lucy waited for the girl to come back and softly hummed on a lullaby that her mother had sung for her when she was young meanwhile.
But she failed to notice a pair of eyes with 'sparks' staring at her the whole time.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to review, it makes me happy! :))
