Chapter 10: Thin Ice

"What's happened to everyone?"
Evelyn asked.
"The state is thinking of shutting us down." Olivia said.
Kornelia being a long-term member couldn't have this, "They can't do that!" She said slamming her fist onto the table. Olivia wore a pained look "They can." "Why?" Evelyn asked. "We cause too much trouble, they're tired of funding us and frankly they don't think having a business based off an anime is good."

"Ridiculous." Seth hissed. "You're the master do something!"
"Seth." Evelyn said trying to calm him. "This guild is all I got," tears built up in his eyes," if it's shut down I don't have anywhere to go I don't have anyone I!" Seth clawed at his hair. "I can't have that happen." He ran off into the rain. "Seth!" Nathan chased after him.

"Where are you going?" He asked once he caught up to him. Seth walked quickly. "Town hall." He awnsered calmly.
"What're you gonna do?"
"Convince them to let us stay."
"Are you mad! The government hates us you could be put in juvy if you say the wrong thing!"
Seth slowed his pace. It wasn't like him to act so impulsively.

"What was that about?" Evelyn asked. Kornelia shrugged "Now that I think about it nobody really knows about what happened to Seth before he joined the guild." "Olivia do you..." Kornelia started but cut herself off seeing that Olivia was no longer behind them. "Huh? Where'd she go?" Kornelia quickly scanned the space around her. "She left..." Evelyn turned around to face the entrance just in time to see a figure run into the mist.

"Look you have to..." Nathan was interrupted by foot steps running toward them. "Olivia what're you doing?" Seth asked as soon as her face came into view.

"Running to town hall." She awnsered walking backwards to face them for a few steps then turning back around. "Alright!" Seth said running to catch up to her. "Has every one gone insane?" He asked himself. "Nathan what're you doing here?" Kornelia asked stopping to talk to him alongside Evelyn. "What am I doing here?!"
"We're chasing after Olivia." They started running again.
"W-wait." Nathan said in a failed attempt to stop them. "Damn it." He swore before he started running too.

Seth and Olivia were already catching their breath in front of town hall when Nathan arrived shortly after Kornelia and Evelyn.
"What now?" Nathan asked.
"I don't know that was kind of impulsive." Seth awnsered.
"I do." Olivia said walking up the small flight of stairs leading to the door.

"Fairy Tail." The receptionist said with out looking up. "Go right in."
"You guys are pretty well known huh?" Evelyn said. Kornelia nodded "Believe it or not this isn't the first time we've barged into town hall."
"You can't shut us down!" Seth said as soon as he set foot in the small office. "Fairy Tail, if you don't want to be shut down start funding yourselves and get 1000 signatures on a petition by Wednesday."
"Well that should be simple there might be that many in the guild plus the people in town."
"Can't be from the guild." The mayor added.
"What?!"
"You have to get outside opinions."

"Alright everyone." Olivia shouted over the loud volume of the guild. With the exeption of a few people in the back who didn't seem to hear, everyone was silent. "In case you haven't heard the guild is on the verge of shutting down, in order to prevent that the mayor has required us to get 1000 signatures in two days, which ever team or or person gets the most amount of signatures by wendsday will receive $7,000." Since this was Fairy tail literally everyone seemed to jump out of their seat at once.

The only ones that remained were Olivia, Kornelia's team, and a few members who either didn't get the memo or didn't care. "Hey where'd Evelyn go?" Kornelia asked. "She probably ran off without with the crowd she needs the money." Nathan answered. "Well we better go follow her." Kornelia said. "You want the money too don't you."
"Rent isn't cheap!"
Kornelia ran off catching up with the crowd. Seth and Nathan shrugged and followed shortly. Olivia simply stood there. Robin walked in. "Did I miss something?I just saw a crowd of people running into town and now the guild is empty."

"Evelyn finally we've been looking all over for you." Kornelia said when she had found her. Evelyn smiled mischievously and held up an estimated five papers. All full with signatures. "You got that many signatures?" Kornelia said in disbelief. "How?" Nathan asked "did you forge all of them?" Evelyn shook her head,"Nope, these are all legitimate people who signed to help our guild."
"I thought this city hated us." Nathan said. "Not our clients," Evelyn answered "I tracked down the houses of satisfied customers told them the situation and they were more than happy to oblige."

"I didn't know there were that many." Seth said."Neither did I." Evelyn answered. "How many do you have exactly?" Kornelia asked. Evelyn shuffled through the papers mouthing numbers. "324" She answered. "ish." "Wow." Nathan said. "So how many did you actually forge?"
"I'm telling you I didn't!"
Evelyn started walking, "Now if you'll excuse me I have to get twenty more houses." "Twenty?!" Kornelia said. "Yeah, Leo Gentery over there has at least ten more than me." She stopped walking and pointed across the street at a short boy standing in someone's doorway. Evelyn clenched her fist "He will not beat me!" Evelyn declared. "Calm down please." Kornelia put her hand on Evelyn's shoulder "I'm getting scared." "I'm calm." She awnsered. She turned to walk away.

"Hey where'd Seth go?" Nathan asked. Kornelia scanned the area and saw him in the doorway of a nearby house.
"Oh god."
Seth walked back towards Kornelia and Nathan. They only starred. "Rent's not cheap!" He said storming off after Evelyn. Kornelia and Nathan stood for a second before catching up with their team.

"Do you think we have enough?" Nathan asked. "We?" Evelyn said. "Do you have enough yet?" Nathan asked putting emphasis on the word "you". "I suppose it will suffice." Evelyn answered. Everyone in the group was visually exhausted including both Seth and Evelyn though they tried not to show it. The four made their way back to the guild. It was already pretty late and it would take a while to get back to the guild. "I hope we don't get in trouble somehow," Kornelia said "It's probably well past our curfew."
"We'll get back soon." Evelyn assured them. "It'll be at least 15 minutes before we can even see the guild." Seth said. "Oh, well to pass the time let's play I spy."
Evelyn's suggestion earned a collective "no" from the other three.
"Truth or Dare?"
"No."
"Would you Rather?"
"No"
"Tag."
"No!"
"Geez, fine I was just trying to keep us entertained." Evelyn pouted.

Eventually the four arrived at the guild. There was almost nobody there. "Did they all go home?" Nathan asked. "Some of them did, some are still out getting signatures." Olivia answered. "I wonder if they're getting more than me." Evelyn pondered. "Anyway, guess we're leaving for today." Kornelia said waving to Olivia. Everyone except Evelyn turned to leave. "Who is that." She pointed to a tall boy with brown, hazel eyes and wore black jeans with a dark purple shirt. There were maybe twenty people left in the guild, but this one seemed to stand out somehow. "No one special." Olivia answered in a quite voice shooing the group out the door. The group splitted and each pair walked towards their respective homes. Evelyn put her hands behind her head and turned to Kornelia "Do you know who that was?" She asked "No, she's never really talked about him very much maybe some S-class members know."

"Do you think Seth might?"
"Maybe."
"He might really just be no one special."
"No, Olivia never means that kind of stuff."
Evelyn thought "Why is he part of the guild if she doesn't like to be around him?"
"I don't know we might have to probe for more information."
Kornelia said. The two were too absorbed in their converstion to notice they had arrived at their rooms. They waved to each other and walked in each of their rooms. The door clicked shut behind Evelyn. She sighed and shook off her shoes laying down in bed she realized she was exhausted but couldn't sleep. She clicked on the lamp by her bed and flipped open a book. Her hand, as it often did, unconsciously moved to the scar on her neck usually hidden by her hair. It somehow soothed her, remined her that she was out of that place.

A/N Seth's coolness is being slowly chipped away. By the way I'm working on a few side stories that should be out soon along with the main story of course. I was going to post this a few weeks ago but decided it was too short and you guys deserve more. Thanks for reading. The next chapter will be out soon, promise!
