Dis fell asleep beside Kili; he hadn't woken at all since they arrived back at the Blue Mountains. She never left him, watching his fever carefully, incase it got worse, but she grew weary. The sound of his labored breathing her nearly hypnotic. Her lids began to drop, her body beginning to relax before jerking herself back up, and shaking it off. It happened again, and again until she could not fight it anymore, she didn't even realize she fell asleep until she woke to find herself lying beside her son. She didn't know how long, but it didn't feel like it was near enough, but she slowly pushed herself back up into a sitting position. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes before realizing, that the hypnotic breathing that she fell asleep to, was no longer there.

Fili had no idea why they put chains on his feet until the moment he was pushed off of something, and hit the water. He struggled to no avail to stay afloat, but the weight of the chains dragged him down and dragged him down fast. The bag on his head drifted off as he continued to struggle, he could finally see a little in the dim water. He felt his feet touch the sandy floor about twenty feet down. His lungs began to beg for air, he knew he wasn't going to last, and he knew that it was useless to struggle against his binds. Maybe he could have struggled out of the ropes that bound his hands if his wrist wasn't broken. He tried to move it, only to get a powerful eruption of pain, his body reacted and he accidently swallowed a mouth full of water. He lost control then, breathing in more and more of the dangerous salty sea water. His vision went black, his chest burned, he didn't have much time. He panicked, and then he thought about his father, he thought about everything they did together, everything he taught him. He thought about the attack, the many goblins he killed protecting him, and in the end, dying for him. Maybe dying won't be so bad, at least he'd get to see his father again. He became calm, as the blackness took control.

"Kili?" Dis noticed her son had stopped breathing, "Kili." She held the back of her hand close to his nose, feeling for the light breeze of a breath, nothing. "Kili!" She began to get frantic, roughly grabbing him, and shaking. "Kili! NO! OIN!" She yelled for the healer, who came running at the sound of her desperate cries. He kneeled beside them, feeling for a breath himself, and looked for a pulse on his neck, nothing. Dis began crying in powerful sobs as she watched Oin begin pounding on her son's chest. He placed each one precisely, and he hit with a force that jerked Kili's body, again, and again, and again.

Oin kept going until Dis couldn't stand it anymore, and stop his hand before he hit again. He understood, and stepped back. She pulled her youngest son's limp form into her arms and squeezed tightly as if that was the only way she could keep him, but she knew that it wasn't and sobbed into his body loudly.

Thorin did only one thing the moment he saw his eldest nephew headed toward the water, he ran. The rest was up to his company that ran for the five men on shore, that Thorin didn't spare a moment of thought for. He ran toward the water, jumping over the force of the waves until he was too for in to do so, then he dived. The water was dim and murky, he could hardly see a thing, but he tunnel visioned Fili and knew about where he would be. He swam deeper and deeper toward the bottom, and then he saw him, floating limp from the heavy chains. As he came closer his lungs began to struggle against the lack of air, but he stayed focused going straight for the chains and untangling them from Fili's feet. They came free and he pulled his nephew up straight toward the surface.

He gasped for air when he broke through, and pulled Fili head above the water. He was unconscious, Thorin prayed that he was not too late, and made for land. He barely stopped past the waves to pound on Fili's chest, trying to get him breathing again. Several moments had passed, and nothing.

Fili gasped for air, Thorin felt relieved, and supported his nephew as he threw up and coughed out water. "Un..cle." Fili coughed. Thorin hugged him tightly, happy to have him back alive. He pulled the ropes off his hands while in the embrace. Then he took his face into both his hands and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead. For his life was a gift from the Gods.

Oin sat beside Dis, rubbing her back in a hopeless attempt to comfort her. Her face was buried deep into Kili's body, and that was why he was the first to see a slight twitch of Kili's hand. Not a twitch of rigger, but a twitch of life. "Dis!" He interfered the embrace, and gently pulled son from mother. She lowered him enough to see his face, and sure enough. His eyes opened slightly, and wearily, Dis cried. She kept crying as she did before, but now instead of tears of grief, they were tears of joy. She brushed back his hair from his face, and gently placed a kiss on his forehead. She thanked the Gods because she got to keep him.

You guys have been so sweet in your reviews, and have made writing the last half of this so much fun. Not just fun, but like a dream come true! This started out as my first shot writing at all. Keep I look out for the sequel! We are going to find out more about the ring and what happens to it. Also I'm might be writing a reunion scene as well, I'd write it in here, but it just felt done. So keep a look out for what I have coming for you next
