Chapter 10- Friends Both Old And New
Vale sat next to Rias and Akeno during their class's lunch break. The first day of school was going smoothly, all things considered. Which wasn't to say that he wasn't bored out of his mind, he'd spent the last two hours staring at Akeno's boobs, just to have something to do. Not that he was bored of Akeno's boobs, they were fantastic boobs after all. Though Sona had been glaring at him all day, which was starting to irritate him.
"So Vale, why aren't you eating? If you want, you can have some of my lunch. Say ahh." Rias said as she plucked a sausage from her bento box and offered it to Vale.
"Nah, it's cool. One of the fun things about Beleth clan's Abyss Physique is after it's awakening, my body becomes much more ruggedly built. I need to eat, sleep, and breathe far less often than normal people do. I don't even need to visit the bathroom unless I'm sick. Not sure how it works, I'm just glad it does." he said as he propped his head up on his elbows.
"C'mon, a growing boy needs to eat." Rias said as st poked the sausage towards Vale's mouth. Vale looked back at Rias to see her giving him some of the most beautiful puppy dog eyes he'd ever seen. Vale groaned once in false protest before he grudgingly opened his mouth and let Rias feed him.
"How's it taste?" Rias asked as she watched Vale finish chewing the sausage and swallow it with a gulp.
"Fantastic." he replied with a grin. His grin vanished as he caught Sona glaring at him once more. This time though, Akeno caught Vale glancing at Sona.
"Vale-kun, why is Sona-kaichou glaring at you with such intensity? Did you do something to upset her?" Akeno asked quizically.
"Uhhh... Rias you wanna field this one?" Vale asked, not particularly eager to go through his escape from the Underworld in a public setting.
"Akeno, that's actually very complicated. But, suffice it to say, I have arranged a meeting between Kaichou, Vale, and I after school both to discuss the upcoming Academy Ball Tournament and hopefully clear the air about any past misunderstandings." Rias replied, gracefully avoiding the subject for now. Akeno nodded her assent before returning to her lunch.
The rest of the day continued without incident. As the bell sounded Vale packed up his books and papers into his backpack, he finished zipping up his backpack before looking up to see Rias and Akeno waiting patiently for him next to the classroom door. He stood up and threw his backpack over his shoulder and jogged over to them.
"So Vale, are you ready to clear the air with Sona-kaichou?" Rias asked as they headed toward the abandoned schoolhouse.
"Eh... Ready is putting it a tad strongly. Before we do that though, do you mind if I take a quick shower when we get back to the clubroom?" Vale asked as they reached the stairwell and began to descend it, carefully navigating the throng of female students as they reached the bottom floor and headed for the front door.
"Sure, I don't see why not. Kaichou isn't supposed to arrive until after the student council meeting and that'll take about an hour, so you should have plenty of time." Rias replied as they opened the front door and headed across the courtyard to the schoolhouse.
"Excellent. Care to join me Akeno-san?" he asked as he turned to look at Akeno with a crooked grin.
"Ara ara, oh Vale-san, have you truly no shame? Propositioning me with Buchou right next to you, how daring of you. Ufufufufu" Akeno replied as she covered her mouth with a hand as she giggled.
"Well, first off, I say once again that shame is overrated. Second, Rias-hime is my fiancee, we aren't supposed to do anything like that until our wedding night, and I'd hate to give her parents a reason to cancel our engagement and marry her off to someone else." Vale replied nonchalantly.
"Well then, perhaps we should take this time to experiment with ecchi things before you marry Buchou." Akeno said as she wrapped her arms around Vale's arm, sandwiching it between her ample bosom before Rias grabbed a hold of his other arm and yanked him back towards her.
"No! Vale's chastity belongs to me! I forbid you from doing 'that' with Vale before I do, if I ever allow you to do it." Rias said as she pulled Vale back towards her as they neared the schoolhouse doors.
"I refuse." Akeno replied sweetly as she narrowed her eyes at Rias. Vale felt Both of the girls beginning to gather demonic power when he cleared his throat loudly to get their attention.
"I'd like to remind you two that we are still in plain view of several humans. Also, it wouldn't do for the Two Great Onee-sama's to be seen fighting over the new student. Besides, I was just kidding." He said as the reached the old schoolhouse doors.
"That's not funny Vale!" Rias pouted as she release Vale's arm and crossed her arms over her chest as she pouted at him, looking all-too-adorable as she did. Akeno however, simply tightened her grip on his arm and pulled it deeper into her cleavage
"Sorry, but I gotta say, it was nice to see the normal girl side of you. Besides, it's not like you didn't know I was a flirt." Vale replied as he watched Rias blush ever so slightly at his comment on her true personality.
"So, does this mean I can do ecchi things with Vale before Kaichou arrives?" Akeno replied coyly as she snuggled closer to him.
"A-absolutely not! Despite his flirtatiousness, Vale is still mine and mine alone and I will not lose to anyone for his affection, even you!" Rias said as she snatched Vale's arm from Akeno.
"Well girls, as fun as this is, I'm gonna go shower. I'd appreciate it if the clubroom was still here when I get out." Vale said as he left the the girls to their squabble.
Vale headed back to his room and grabbed a black t-shirt and jeans from his trunk before heading back to the clubroom. He called Mil-tan to let him know to take the night off before stepping into the shower. He was just beginning to soap himself up when he heard the club door open, followed by the sound of several sets of feet entering the clubroom.
"Ah. Kaichou, you're here early! I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting you or I would have had Akeno prepare some tea and cake.." he heard Rias say. Vale swore inwardly to himself as he cast a spell to mute the sound coming from the shower as he finished washing himself. Sona went on to introduce her servants to Issei and Asia who Rias went on to introduce to the rest of the Student Council, apparently Sona had recently added some clown named Saji to her peerage. He and Issei went on to fight over Asia and Saji being the same type of piece as Issei until Vale could no longer stand it.
"Oh Satan! Would you two just shut up?!" He called from behind the curtain the bath was hidden behind as he stepped from the tub and dried himself with magic.
"Who said that? Show yourself!" a girl he remembered from class as Tsubaki Shinra called out as she stepped in front of Sona.
"Zenki! Goki! Pants me!" Vale exclaimed curtly as the two Shikigami leaped from the key chain on his back pack in the corner before growing to their original 7 foot tall, horned, muscle-bound forms in midair. They landed with a solid thud on the wooden paneling on the floor before striding through the middle of the room over to Rias' desk before grabbing his pants and passing them through the curtain to their master. Vale snatched them from his familiars before getting dressed and stepping out from behind the curtain fully dressed.
"Who's this clown?" Saji sneered as he turned to face Vale. Vale narrowed his eyes at the offending Pawn before he snapped his fingers. As soon as the sound reached their titanic eardrums the two Shikigamis leaped forward and pinned Saji to the wall before unleashing two monumental bellows at the second year. Saji's face drained of all color at the sight of the two toothed maws, that were both easily large enough to swallow him whole three times over.
"Beleth-san, please release my servant. I apologize for his rudeness and I shall punish him accordingly after our meeting is concluded." Sona said said diplomatically from behind her Queen. Vale turned and nodded at his two familiars signaling them to release the offender. Saji dropped to the ground with a thud.
"Would the rest of you give us some privacy? Rias-buchou, Beleth-san, and I have some sensitive matters to discuss." Sona announced to the room. All of Sona's servants bowed before turning and exiting the clubroom. Rias' servants hesitated a few moments before Rias dismissed them with a wave of her hand. Vale walked over and took a seat on the couch as he watched the other members of the Occult Research Club file out of the clubroom.
"Alrighty, let's hear it. Lemme have it, tell me how bad it was that I ran out on our engagement half a decade ago." Vale said as he propped his feet up on the coffee table and braced himself for whatever Sona had saved up for him.
"I'm actually not mad at you anymore." Sona replied casually with a smile as she turned to face him.
"Say what?" Vale asked , flabbergasted that Sona wasn't mad at him.
"I was mad at first, I was really mad at first. But then Tsubaki pointed out that you were only twelve when you left the Underworld. Not only that, but you probably were freaking out having figured out your entire life until then was a lie. It was probably a very stressful time in your life where you had no one to turn to, the last thing you needed was to be engaged to someone you'd never met or heard of. Plus, Momo made the point that my parents managed to find another family to set me up with shortly after, a match that I vociferously protested and barely managed to get myself out of; so I probably would've disliked being engaged to you just as much as I hated being fixed up with the other suitor. Plus, Rias was nice enough to let me know everything you've done for her after showing up in town, and she seems to like having you around, and that's good enough for me." Sona said with a gentle smile.
"Oh... Well okay then. So are we cool?" Vale asked uncertainly from his seat on the couch. Sona gave a light, elegant chuckle before replying,
"Yes Vale, we are indeed, cool."
"Oh. Well then, I will take my leave so you two can plan for the upcoming Academy Ball Tournament in peace. I have some shopping to do."
"Alright, I'll see you later Vale." Rias replied from her desk. Once he'd confirmed he was no longer needed Vale hopped off the couch and took off for the grocery store...
Half an hour later...
Vale was on his way back to the schoolhouse with his groceries in hand. He was walking down the sidewalk of one of the city's backstreets when he saw a familiar head of dark blue hair wearing a black coat with silver trim with a cross emblem emblazoned on the left breast walking down the opposite side of the deserted backstreet with a sword slung over his back heading away from him. The man was a handsome Japanese man a few inches shorter than Vale with waist length hair with two long bangs framing his face with the rest tied up in a ponytail behind his head. His uniform consisted of a concealing jackets and gloves with silver trim on the shoulders and the end of the coat's sleeves, as well as pants and heavy duty boots. Vale dropped his grocery bags, causing the contents of the bag to spill out onto the sidewalk with thud and a clatter.
"Hey! You, pretty boy! You gotta lot of nerve showing your face around here!" he barked angrily at the man on the other side of the street. The man whirled around around to face him before shooting him a scowl.
"Oh God, I thought I'd never have to see your ugly face again. Guess it's just my luck. Well then, guess I've got no choice. Mugen, Activate." he said as he ran his index and middle finger along the back of his Sacred Gear sword turning the blade silver. Vale called the Juuchi Yosamu to his hand as he advanced on the man as he twirled the hungry blade in a dramatic flourish before reversing his grip on it when he neared the man.
"You ready to do this?" the man growled when the were within five feet of each other.
"Bring it on, girly." Vale replied in a cocky tone. They both held their positions for what seemed like eternity before they reached out and firmly grasped each other by the forearm and (platonically) hugged each other tightly.
"Yu Kanda, what's the Black Order's best Exorcist doing here? I haven't seen you in almost a year. How've you been?" Vale asked his old friend, ally, and occasional coworker.
"I've been fine. I'm here looking for Freed Sellzen, supposedly he and some Archbishop idiot made off with three of the Excalibur Fragments a month ago and are hiding out here. I'm supposed to meet up with two of the Church's exorcists before going to look for him and retrieve the Fragments. Though one of them called me a few hours ago and said she was gonna meet up with an old friend of her some jackass named Hyoudou. Yet another reason I hate working with other people. So I'm just wandering the city, until she decides to get her ass in gear and get to work." Kanda remarked flippantly.
"Yeah, I had the same problem working for Grigori. Only two of the people I worked with had any sort of work ethic. You met one of 'em once, remember the dude with the gigantic dog?" Vale replied as he banished the Juuchi Yosamu. Kanda nodded before Vale did a double take before saying,
"Wait, did you say Hyoudou? I think I may know where your colleagues are." Vale said with a grin.
"Lead the way then." Kanda said as he sheathed his sword. Without further ado, Vale turned an headed towards Issei's house, Kanda following close behind.
They arrived at Issei's house a few minute later. It was a plain, two story house situated in a fairly nice neighborhood. Vale paid little attention to any of this as he reached out and knocked twice on the door. There was the sound of someone striding over to the door, before it opened to reveal Issei standing in the doorway.
"Hey Vale-san, what are you doing here? Who' your friend?" Issei asked, obviously puzzled by Vale's sudden appearance at his place of residence.
"Ise, who is it?" a familiar female voice called from within. Vale said nothing as he reached out and pushed the door open wider to reveal two young girls in white capes sitting across from Asia in the living room, one with blue medium-length hair with a green fringe in the middle with brown eyes. The other had long, light brown hair and violet eyes. Her hair was styled into twin side ponytails, each held with a blue scrunchy. The latter, gasped at the sight of the black haired Devil in the doorway.
"*gasp* Vale-kun, what are you doing here?" Irina asked, sounding pleasantly surprised.
"Hey Irina(A/N: Vale, not being a native Japanese speaker often forgets to use honorifics, causing his language ability to simply fill them in in the mind of the listener) 'sup?" Vale asked with a crooked grin.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Issei asked, obviously very befuddled.
"You're awfully nosy for someone who hasn't even invited me in yet." Vale remarked pointedly as he shot Issei a dirty look.
"Ah, of course. Won't you come in? I'm sure we have much to discuss." Issei said as Vale and Kanda entered the house and closed the door behind them...
