a few days passed since masons and hinata's talk.
Mason and Naruto were just walking through the gates off the hidden leaf village gates, coming back from a delivery from the village hidden in the sand. They had been given the task to deliver papers about the upcoming Chuunin exams to one of the elders. The whole way home naruto would not shut up about how we would defiantly become a chuunin this time. At one point he even told mason that he will do so well that they would have no choice but to promote him all the way to Jounin.
They were headed back to naruto's house; mason was going to grab some stuff and head to the bath house while naruto reported the mission to lady Tsunade. Before they parted ways naruto said to mason "after you get cleaned up you might want to stop by the hokage tower and give a report. Mason agreed that he would do so and went on his way.
When naruto made it to the hokage tower he received rather upsetting news but he cut in yelling "what do you mean I won't be able to take part in the chuunin exams this year. Tsunade understanding his anger explained "I have a more important mission for you…." She never got to finish because naruto butted in again and said "what could be more important than me becoming a chuunin…." Now it was Tsunade's turn to interrupt naruto. She said "the mission has to do with sasuke (that shut naruto up) we have reports that he may be moving through the area and this would be our best chance to get him. So I am sending you, kiba, Neji, and hinata, I figured this time would have the best success."
Naruto did not need and convincing, he knew the other people on the team had skills that made tracking easy for them and on the up side he got to work with hinata. Naruto said "I understand, when do we leave" tsunade smiled and said "they should be waiting for you as we speak at the west gate, so the sooner you get there the sooner you leave." She did not have to tell him twice we was gone like a flash of lightning.
Mason finish his bath and decided he would go to the hokage tower then head back to naruto's house and see if he wanted to go get some ramen for supper. Mason had grown very fond of the food. Part was because they ate it all the time the other part was because he and naruto always talked during dinner and he enjoyed the talks. He has really got to know naruto for the month and a half he had been there. He felt a strong bond between them, naruto felt more like a brother to him then a friend. He had also learned naruto true feelings about hinata one night after dinner on the way home from supper that had been the third night he was living with naruto.
When mason reached the door to tsunade's office he knocked and he heard someone say "come on in" he walked in to a warm smile from tsunade. She said "what can I do for you mason" mason replied saying "naruto told me to come and report to you when I got done cleaning up." She laughed a little and said "I thank you for doing so, I was needing to talk to you about something anyway" mason looked confused and said "what about lady tsunade?
She replied "about the chuunin exams of course, I know you have only been here for a month and a half but from what I was told you finished the academy in half the time they thought it would take you ,you already have a few justsu under your belt ,and on top of that you already know that you chakra nature is lightning." Mason kind of blushed and said "well its all thanks to naruto, hinata and Iruka. They have taught me how control my power."
Tsunade said "I have also been told that you have a huge chakra reserve. I was told that it is nearly ten times the size of a regular person. Also you were never assigned to a team so all this makes you taking the chuunin exams hard." With this mason felt sad because how could he grow as a ninja if he could not do the testing. Before mason could have another though tsunade began talking again, she said "that is why I have looked through your mission reports and noticed you have gotten great marks on you team work, taking that into consideration along with things I mentioned earlier I will allow you to join the chuunin exams after the second exam. The way the exams are going to be set up this year the third exams will be a day after the second exam and will be done with in two days. If all goes to plan you will be a chuunin by the end of next week." Hearing this mason was very excited
Mason said "thank you very much lady tsunade." Then he thought about something. "lady tsunade what about naruto will he be taking the chuunin exams" tsunade told mason "naruto has been sent away on a mission and will not be back for at least two or three weeks, so he will not be taking place in the exams but if he proves himself on his next few missions like I know he can then I will give him the rank of chuunin. Mason was happy to hear that his friend will become a chuunin as well.
Tsunade said "mason you are now must leave I need to get back to my paper work. With that mason took off back to he's and naruto's house. When he got there it was so quiet, mason had never been there without someone (mostly naruto) yelling and going on about something. With that he realized that even though he was going to become a chuunin the next few weeks were going to suck without naruto.
