IMMORTAL DEATH
CHAPTER 9
- Events make a twist -
Sakura was laying on a cold ground nothing except a white t-shirt and a casual pants to warm her. She felt dizzy and the world seemed to be spinning around her too fast. Blinking few times, she tried to get the world to stop and after awhile of blinking and head shaking it finally did.
Taking some support from her hands she started to lift herself to a sitting position but the wind blowing around strongly made it harder though. Her hair was flying everywhere and blocking her vision partly and she was only able to see small glimpses here and there.
Lifting her hands to tame the flying pink stands she was able to see better as she blocked the hair covering her eyes.
Everything was darker than normal: the sky was the color of petrol and the even darker clouds were moving abnormally fast, and the grass as if green was mixed bit small amount of black thrived here and there. It was like a meadow except there wasn't forest lining the place. The place just continued to the horizon anywhere you look.
Up until now she hadn't even realize that the grass didn't feel like it normally would: It felt more sharp. Stretching her hand to pick one thin strand of grass she placed her finger either side of it and pulled.
The grass didn't come off as it normally would but cut a long gash on both of her fingers. She yelped in pain and pulled her hand to her chest. The blood started to ooze out of the two wounds like there was no other day and Sakura's heartbeat picked up. Wrapping the bleeding finger to the hem of her t-shirt she tried to stop the bleeding.
To no avail the blood soaked the hem making the t-shirt look as if it was meant to be red and not white.
In the mist of trying to stop the bleeding she hadn't noticed that the pain had stopped even though the bleeding continued and this made Sakura pull her fingers from the hem and inspect them.
Her thumb and fore finger which she used to try to pick the grass were turning sickly bluish black as the blood made the rest of her hand bright red.
She didn't feel dizzy from blood loss even if she was supposed to. She tilted her head in curiosity still looking at her fingers and didn't hear someone approaching her.
"Quite a lot of blood, isn't it?" A smooth voice of the approaching person made Sakura froze on her place and turn her upper body to look behind her.
A man wearing a black leather jacket and black jeans stood behind her. His face was covered with hood so Sakura wasn't able to see his face.
She didn't know what to say. She felt shocked that there was someone other than herself. From the moment she looked around herself she came to the conclusion that this was a dream but when she hurt her hand and didn't wake up like normally you would she started doubting whether this really was a dream or not.
"Are you just going to stare at me and not answer my question?" The man continued tilting his head slightly to the right.
Sakura shook her head for a second to clear it out before she stuttered, "W-What?"
A sound that almost sounded like chuckle came from the male and made his chest rise, "I asked you: Isn't there a lot of blood, is it?" He repeated and took steps to go in front of her. All the time he walked Sakura kept her eyes glued to him not once letting her vision stray.
As Sakura was just sitting on the ground awkwardly legs straight before her facing forward her body no longer twisted, the man crouched down to her level and took a hold of her hand.
Sakura sucked in a breath as the mans finger made contact with her skin and wrapped themselves around he wrist to pull the bleeding hand closer to him. The contact was warm and filled Sakura with the feeling of content and warmth. While the man was turning her hand from side to side carefully, Sakura observed the guy intently. She still wasn't able to see under his hood to see his face entirely but what she was able to was his mouth set to a straight line.
Slowly he placed his other hands fore finger on her palm and traced the finger across her palm making Sakura stop her observing and turning her attention to her hand. He stopped his finger when they reached to her fore finger that was bleeding and took blood from it to his own fingers. The brush of his finger on her wound didn't hurt at all but made he shutter.
Still following his hand that was now covered in blood she saw him lift the hand to his mouth and open it to lick the red substance from them. Her breath was caught in her throat in she was waiting for a wave of disgust to feel her but it never came. Oddly enough she felt a sudden bang of excitement and something else that made her heart beat and breath hard.
The man hadn't released his hold of her hand but kept it in place until he had licked all the blood from his fingers. Sakura knew she should have turned her head to look away but she was mesmerized by the action this dark person did. And what made Sakura even more curious was the quick flash of fangs she was able to see when he opened his mouth. She knew she was doing completely wrong just sitting there and watching this creature do his thing and not panic but she couldn't help it. Her body just didn't feel like threatened.
As he finished licking his fingers he began pulling Sakura's whole hand and body closer to him. She needed to get on her feet but still crouching as she was pulled close to him.
Carefully he placed his free hand to her waist and pulled her almost against his own body but despite the distance Sakura was able to feel the cold air coming in waves from him. It made a shiver ran down her back. She was slightly shocked and wasn't able to look at him but just look over his shoulder at the never ending horizon before him.
His breath fanned her neck for a mere second before he lifted her bleeding hand to his mouth. As his breath moved from her neck to her wrist Sakura was finally able to gather herself and turn her head to the left and see as the tips of his fangs were barely visible and then pressed to the skin of her wrist, out of sight, sinking into her flesh.
A piercing pain shook her whole body and she moaned in pain but also from pleasure.
Then her world became black.
The tired feeling indicated to Sakura that she has woken up. She didn't want to wake up yet, he position on her side was too comfoortable to move from. Her muscles were stiff especially her legs that she hasn't been able to use for a good moment. Still to exhausted to even open her eyes she stretched her right and left arm before her, letting out a yawn.
Rolling slowly on to her back and looking at the ceiling Sakura started to feel odd. The feeling resembled the one when you woke up startled from a nightmare and you look around your room to check if someone's there because you feel like someone is watching you.
Slowly she dragged her vision from the ceiling across the room.
It was still early in the morning because the sun was shining low through the blinds creating lighter and darker spots in the room.
Sakura's eyes locked on to a shadow next to the door leading out of the room. It looked like there was a mass of something that was different than its environment and Sakura was sure there shouldn't be anything in the corner because it would block the door from opening entirely.
She tried to blink in hopes of being able to see better and see whether she was hallucinating the whole thing but no: the thing was still there. Her heart pounded few times in her chest before calming breaths she took calmed it down.
Even though she tried to see better the sun rays shining through the window blocked her sight lightly and she decided to get into a sitting position. All the time she used so lift herself to sit, she kept her eyes on the mass in the shadows and she was pretty sure when she let out a breath of exhaustion and frustration of not being able to get easily into the wanted position, the mass moved slightly.
Now that she was sitting she could see the room better. The mass seemed to be almost as tall as the door and she doesn't recall anything in her room being that tall. All her doubts disappeared of the thing being an item shattered when she saw dark eyes opening to look at her.
She breath was once again stuck in her throat but she didn't show any other signs of panic aside from her breathing that soon changed in a labored one making her heart finally pound from fear. She didn't recall someone other coming here today except her mother who came to visit everyday.
The eyes looked keenly at her not once faltering or looking else where and Sakura had to look back as if she was a captive of the eyes. She wasn't sure how long they kept staring at each other but eventually the person hiding in the shadows stepped closer.
It was a man whose face was covered under a hood. He didn't take more than two steps, waiting for the girls reaction. Normally one would start yelling that there's someone in their room but Sakura didn't make any sounds like that. She just simply sat there on her bed eyes locked with the intruder.
A sudden realization came to Sakura as she finally rid her eyes off and looked closely at the male who in fact looks exactly like the man in her dream just minutes ago: the same leather jacket and black jeans. But what is different to her dream is that she can clearly see the man or should she say boys face. There wasn't any flaws in him that she could notice. A strong jawline, onyx eyes and every feature every man can only hope to have.
A thought of fangs filled her mind and she remembered what she had seen in Hawaii at the hotel that freaked her out at the time but now she didn't do anything of that sort.
"You-" Sakura started and pointed at him but wasn't sure how she should continue.
The man tilted his head to the left, "I what?" He asked and his voice made Sakura shudder. If she thought the guy in Hawaii was attractive than this man is a god compared to him.
She still wasn't able to get a proper word from her mouth and her hands still continuing pointing, she swallowed slowly.
Sasuke lifted his hand up and Sakura immediately placed her hand on her lap from pointing him as he lifted his own hand to his hood to pull it away.
His hair was just as dark as his eyes if not darker, looking like he had just woken up and just slightly done something to it for it to not look just some messy nest.
As Sakura observed his whole being it came clear that this man looked like the man from Hawaii that had come to talk to her. Except few minor differences they have, such as this man's hair's a lot shorter and doesn't look as manly as the other one with the lines under his eyes. Sakura could easily detect that if they were related in any way, the other got mother's genes and the other their father's. And this person definitely got his mother's.
"I'm still waiting." Sasuke suddenly stated and Sakura was taken away from her thoughts.
Now it was Sakura's turn to tilt her head to the side earning a small smirk from the standing male which made Sakura blush.
"I-... W-what are you doing in h-here?" She was able to stutter and this made him only widen his smirk.
Unbeknownst to Sakura who was still to mesmerized by the man in front of her the yesterday's feeling of wanting came back slightly different: as if the thing she was waiting for had come. Soon she recognized the feelings and furrowed her brows and suddenly exclaimed catching him off guard, "You were the thing I was waiting yesterday in the TV room!"
He took a supportive step back as he too recalled yesterday's events. What was even more weird for him is that this mere human was able to sense hi somehow even though she shouldn't be.
"You," he dragged the words slowly, "knew I was there?"
"Are you a stalker?" Sakura suddenly asked causing him to furrow his eye brows in a small annoyance.
Deciding that answering in that question was futile, he asked his own question. "What's your name?"
Sakura crossed her arms over her chest and puffed her cheeks. She knew what he was trying to do, it couldn't be more obvious he didn't want to answer but she still answered his question, "Sakura."
He mumbled something under his breath out of Sakura's hearing range.
"What's yours?" She asked back getting more and more intrigued by this dark man.
"Sasuke Uchiha." Sasuke answered truthfully.
"So you're related to that Itachi guy?" Her question made him stiff all over. Just hearing the name coming from her made bad thoughts plague his mind. He didn't want to think that this innocent girl would know a guy like him. Still it made sense if her mother knew too except Sayuri Haruno never mentioned his name like Sakura did.
"How do you know him?" Sasuke wanted to know. Maybe he would be able to get in contact with him through her somehow.
"I don't know him, know him but I've met him once." Sasuke narrowed his eyes and looked away from the girl before starting to pace around the open space before the door.
"It that a problem?" She asked but received a quick answer of no.
He needed to know more. He needed to know where they had met and when. "Where did you meet him?"
As if she hadn't just met the guy and rather knew him for years she started to explain, "We were in Hawaii awhile back and I met him on the beach because he himself came to talk to me."
"Have you met him after that?" Sakura could only shook her head and Sasuke nodded his as an understanding her answer.
A silence crept over them as Sasuke had stopped his pacing and was looking intently at the teen on the bed playing nervously with her fingers.
"You're nervous?" He stated which made Sakura lift her gaze back to his emotionless face.
"A-a little." She stuttered. Why hadn't the nervousness come when she saw Sasuke in the room when she woke up? She felt almost like blushing as the man kept looking at her as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
"Why?" He was truly interested in her answer: was it because she was afraid except her heart wasn't pounding as if in fear but more like fluttering calmly in her chest and her breathing was hard at all.
"You make me nervous.." She said silently not completely knowing why she was answering without any doubts.
Sasuke took few steps closer to the girl and was currently standing next to the foot of the bed but not close enough to touch her which he has been wanting to do since the moment he arrived in the room. To his dismay the feeling crew even stronger when she woke up and he just wanted to touch her face, her hair, everything that was possible to touch but he had to restrain himself from doing any of that. It would just be creepy if some unknown guy just started touching you.
He had to fist his fingers because of the want and use his every inch of will power not to go to her and grab her close. Her smell was intoxicating like it was yesterday but now even stronger and suddenly he was very aware of burning thirst in his throat. He hadn't had blood for a few days.
Sasuke's face changed slightly and Sakura was able to notice it before it was gone and the perfect shell was back again.
"Why I make you nervous?" Sasuke tried to distract himself by continuing his questions because he almost hadn't even listened her talking to him or ask anything when he just concentrated on her voice.
She twisted her hands nervously around on her lap not looking at Sasuke when she said, "Your gaze is so intense.." She mumbled the last part blushing but Sasuke was still able to pick it.
Sasuke felt oddly pleased with the answer: to know that he caused her to blush and act all nervous made his pride swell up. Sakura who had turned her attention back on the leather jacketed male noticed the slight smirk on his lips and couldn't resist saying back at him, "I'm not trying to boost you ego, you creepy ego-dude." This made Sasuke chuckle which caused Sakura to have a shiver which of course started to annoy her.
'Who reacts like that every time someone laughs..' She scolded herself while pinching her hand out of annoyance.
Sasuke was truly having fun observing her. All her emotions were clearly shown on her face and her little self mocking was fun to watch - even more fun that seeing Naruto hit himself which is in fact hilarious. But eventually Sasuke wanted to know more from her and got rid of the thought of the blond idiot roaming around LA.
"Why are you here?"
She didn't hesitate even once when she answered and that made him think if many people asked the same question from her all he time. "I was in a surgery because of my back and that's why," she pointed at the wheelchair in the corner "I have to use that."
She turned to look into his eyes and seeing that he wanted her to continue and she complied, "I was in a car accident when was younger and that has caused some serious damage to my spine. So every once in a while I need a surgery to help my spine to keep it together if you could say so." Sasuke only nodded.
Another silence feel upon the pair and neither one was looking each other when Sasuke became tense and Sakura lifted her head to see why was he reacting such way.
He had already turned his head to look at the door before turning his head back to look at the pink haired girl still sitting in the same position on the bed legs spread in front of her.
"Your mother's coming." He eventually informed while changing his gaze to look at the girls hand.
Sakura was slightly surprised hearing that her mother was coming because how was he able to know that but her wonders were caught off when Sakura's hand came in contact with Sasuke's. She immediately remembered the feeling she got in her dream when this male touched her hand and she made no moves to pull her hand off and savored the warm feeling radiating from her hand to everywhere else in her body. Even though she had the warm feeling she was still able to feel how cold his skin was against her own.
She once again locked her eyes with Sasuke who slowly raised her hand to his lips and placed a light kiss on the skin before saying, "Until next time."
The door to the room opened and Sasuke had already retreated from her and she was only able to see a quick shadow leave the room. Her mother walked to her bed but Sakura who was still enchanted by the tingly feeling of his lips on her skin and the swift movements he used to get out of the room didn't even realize her mother was talking until her mother waved her hand before her sight.
"What?" She stopped her dreaming eyes still a little glassy.
"Are you okay?" Sayuri asked while placing her hand on Sakura's forehead.
"Mom, I'm not sick." Sakura pulled the hand off of her and smiled at her mother's antics. It was also very clear that her mother hadn't noticed Sasuke leave the room or in generally know there had been someone else in the room.
Itachi was walking around in a small basement's corridors a phone pressed to his ear.
"So he got in and out safely?" He asked in the phone and Kakashi's voice came to his ears, "Yup, safe and sound, but I was just wondering what are you going to do to the girl?"
"I'm not going to keep her here any longer. There's no point in it if Sasuke has already met Sakura so I'll just let her go after I convince her that she should not attack me afterwards." Itachi laughed lightly at the phone.
"Okay. But I gotta admit, your plan worked perfectly, and I was pretty dumb not believing in it." Kakashi said through the phone.
"I would have slaughtered your ass if she hadn't made it out from Hawaii but I guess I should also trust in you more." Itachi said back now lazily leaning in one of the walls.
"But I have to go now to see the girl so I'll see you soon." Itachi ended the call not before hearing last goodbyes from his friend.
Placing the phone in his pocket he got off the wall and strolled to one of the rooms in the basement. The door creaked loudly as he pushed it open and revealed a room with light shining from one lamp hanging from the ceiling and a woman shackled in the room with chains coming from the floor.
Ten-Ten lifted her head to look at Itachi who stopped in a good range from her, not wanting the girl to attack him.
"From what metal are these shackles made of?" She asked through gritted teeth and almost spit in his face while trying to pull the metal to free herself.
Her dress was all crumbled and torn from some places and her hair cascaded around her because the buns from her head had opened when Itachi had literally dragged her from the city to here.
"It's metal that is used by vampire hunters. They're able to keep any vampire in place unlike normal metal one's." Itachi answered and continued, "But I'm not here to talk to you about vampire hunter -stuff that I collected from my parents house," he wanted her to know that he had been a vampire hunter while still human and this made her eyes grew wide, "but I'm here to tell you to back off from my brother."
"I love him!" She yelled straight at him forgetting her earlier shock.
Itachi shook her head in dismay, "He doesn't love you. He already has someone destined for him and that someone is not you."
Ten-Ten didn't want to hear it. Sasuke had always been hers and hearing something like this hurt.
Itachi croutched to her level but still keeping the distance, "I'm sure there's someone else for you, too. You just have to find him but that one is not my brother." Ten-Ten was now crying and it broke Itachi's heart. He never was one to like women cry.
After her cries calmed down to quiet sobs Itachi continued his explaining. "I'm going to let you free but you can't attack me or I'll have to chain you up again." Ten-Ten nodded her head and brushed her tears from her cheeks.
As Itachi opened the shackles she couldn't help but think if Itachi was speaking the truth but still part of her didn't want to believe it so she didn't. She's heard Obito say bad things about Itachi so there was no trusting in him at least not yet but she still didn't attack him when she was free-ed and Itachi helped her to stand from the cold floor.
She made up her mind of wanting to talk Sasuke personally about this and do everything in her power to keep him to herself but she wasn't going to tell that to Sasuke's brother.
Slowly he lead her out of the house and directed her to the night showing her in which direction the city was.
