Ch. 10
When Dakotah opened her eyes, she wasn't on the roof anymore. She was in what looked like an endless white room. She wasn't wearing her Jinx outfit either, but she wore her favorite shorts and t-shirt. She stood from where she was laying and looked around.
"Hello Dakotah." She spun around and faced the white/blue entity that called herself Knowledge.
"What's going on? Where are we?"
"We're in your mind, child." She said. "Your life is in danger as is Peter's. I took you here to talk to you about your only option of survival."
Dakotah narrowed her eyes. "And what's that?"
If a glowing, faceless figure could look sad, Knowledge pulled it off. "I've grown accustomed to you, dear Dakotah. And it pains me greatly to say this but the only way you can survive and for us to thwart the Darkness, you have to let me unleash my powers and in doing so, free me from your body."
Dakotah looked at the ground. "So… so that means that I can't be the Jinx anymore."
"I'm afraid so." Knowledge said.
"What'll happen to me then?" Dakotah said. "I'm nothing without the Jinx."
"You'll return to your normal life," Knowledge said. "No more powers, just normal Dakotah White."
Dakotah shook her head, holding back tears. "But I don't want that."
"Nor I," Knowledge said, putting a ghostly hand on Dakotah's shoulder. "But it must be done. I'm sorry."
Dakotah sighed. Ever since she had become the Jinx, her life had changed for the better. Without the powers that Knowledge supplied her, she wouldn't know what to do with herself. Would she continue to live in New York with people thinking her to be a freak? Peter wouldn't look at her the same, that's for sure. Who would she be without Knowledge? She looked back at the entity, "Is there any other way?
Knowledge looked at the girl with pity. "I'm sorry, but I cannot foresee a way that would not bring a painful outcome."
Dakotah looked down at her hands. "Alright. Let's get this over with."
The white room around Dakotah began to fade and was replaced with a blue white glow then nothing.
Peter stood over the prone figure of Dakotah protectively. He faced Darkcide without his usually cheekiness he possessed when facing his enemies. Darkcide smiled manically at him. "Now that she's not going to be a bother anymore, how about you hand over that device."
Peter shifted his stance to guard the device in his hand. At the silent answer, Darkcide's eyes seemed to glow sickly green. "Very well." He growled at Peter. The device was wrenched out of Peter's grip while a green blast of energy was sent at him at the same time. Peter closed his eyes and braced himself for the impact but was confused when it never came. He opened his eyes to see a translucent blue/white shield in front of him. He looked around and saw Dakotah standing—no, hovering—beside him.
The shield disappeared and Dakotah floated so that she was in between Darkcide and Peter. Peter couldn't help but notice that his wasn't Dakotah anymore. Her eyes glowed a blue/white color and she had an air of power surrounding her. Just a glance from her made one shiver in fear.
Darkcide sneered at the sight of her. "So, you've finally decided to take over, Knowledge?"
Dakotah looked at Darkcide with no emotion on her face. "This is the only way to save this world from you, Darkness." Peter was shocked to hear that it was not Dakotah's voice that came from her mouth. This voice was much more ancient and powerful.
Darkcide opened his arms wide, as if in welcome. "Come on then." He growled at her. "Hit me with your best shot."
In a flash Dakotah's arm was raised and Darkcide was flung backwards by an invisible wave of energy. Just as Peter thought Darkcide was going to fall over the edge, he disappeared. Peter spun around to see that Darkcide was now behind him. He flung up his arm and green fire was not launched at Dakotah but rather at Peter. Peter braced himself but the green fireball had dissipated against another blue/white shield.
Quicker than lightning, Dakotah had her hand up again. Blue energy began to form around her hand before it turned into a blade. Darkcide copied her with a green energy blade and they began to attack each other with both their weapons and powers. Darkcide had left his guard open for a second too long and Dakotah took her chance. She quickly disarmed him, swept him from behind his feet (where he cracked his head painfully against the cement), and pointed her energy dagger at him, waiting for him to submit.
It was weird, allowing Knowledge take control of her body. She could still see and feel everything but she had no control over her body. She watched the two fight against each other and felt great joy when Knowledge won, but that was quickly overrun by fatigue as she felt Knowledge's presence fade away from her mind.
I hope to see you again, young one. Hopefully when you are more ready to wield my powers. Knowledge said. In the meantime, I will be watching over you.
"What will happen to the Jinx?" Dakotah asked Knowledge.
The Jinx is what we are called when we are in the same body. Knowledge said. And the Jinx will live again, young Dakotah. But for now, stay safe. This was only half of the battle.
With that, Knowledge left her body entirely. Dakotah staggered and the blue dagger disappeared from her hand. Darkcide, sensing her sudden weakness quickly lifted his hand but instead of energy in it was the remote. Wide eyed, Dakotah lunged for the remote when Darkcide pressed the button. Dakotah vaguely heard someone scream and wondered if it was herself before an explosion rocked the city.
Darkcide laid his head back against the cement and laughed evily. Disorientated, Dakotah lowered herself to her knees. She thought she heard a helicopter and something heavy land on the roof before she blacked out.
Sorry for the kinda short chapter but I felt like this was a good place to stop. I didn't want to rush the ending. So yeah, hope you liked! Review please!
