Disclaimer: Fairy Tail does not and sadly will never belong to me but this plot does! I'll sue you if you attempt to steal it haha ^w^ *LOL*
(A/N: Welcome back everyone to one more chapter of D2L that I have done my best to finish but sadly, still couldn't finish. I'll not have you wait any longer so you can go on with the story. Kindly read the A/N at the end of this chapter and don't forget to leave a review!)
Previously on D2L: Suddenly she just stood up. Tears forming on the lids of her eyes. Why was it so hard? Why was it so hard to keep herself from him? What made him different from the other guys she had avoided for so long? But he wasn't just different from them… He was different from any guy she had ever liked before. She was finally coming to terms with her feelings… those feelings of jealousy that she had felt from time to time as well as those feelings of desire; she was beginning to fall for him. He was becoming someone important – too important.
She had wanted so much to avoid him but each and every time, she just found herself attracted to him. She wanted to trust him so bad, to believe in him… but she knew from experience that it was no good. She couldn't let it all happen again.
She was just 'fallING' for him… she hadn't yet, completely fallen for him and so things weren't so bad just yet. But how long could she keep herself from falling for him? How could she stop her newly forming feelings from progressing into something even greater?
Continue:
Gray walked over to her and tapped her shoulder gently, "Luce, you're shivering. Oh! I'm so silly! You haven't even dried your hair or your clothes! Come on" He dragged her from her wrist. She didn't say a word because she was afraid her stuttering which she was sure would come would give her away. She didn't want him to see the tears that were beginning to fall slowly. He took her into what she inferred was his room – a big, blue and white room. She looked around in amazement at all the stuff that was kept and she got even more curious when she noticed a violin and a guitar somewhat hidden in a corner. He asked her to sit and she did as she was told but to her dismay, it was then that he noticed those glistening tears she was trying to hide.
"Luce…" He voiced with a concerned expression as he squatted in front of her and began to wipe them away, "You're…you're crying…"
"N-no…um, s-something just got into my eyes" She said hastily as she began to rub her eyes herself. Gray pulled her hands away from her eyes and kept them together, against his chest, "You know… when tears come out from those chocolate orbs of yours, it hurts in here…"
Lucy's eyes widened and she could barely breathe… Those words had not figuratively but contextually taken her breath away. But it wasn't just the words that made all the impact; it was also the way he looked into her eyes with no hesitation as he said them.
"I know you're not going to tell me now about what sort of burdens and pain you have stored in you, but if ever you do want to, you know that I'll always be there to listen. I promise." He said before standing up straight and taking a towel from his bathroom. He then handed her the towel and a pair of pajamas which she took.
"They're Ultear's. She comes to stay here from time to time. 'brother-sister' time she calls it but truly speaking, she just comes to torture me" He joked though his tone was pretty serious. Lucy smiled a small smile and walked into the bathroom to change. She then returned in the pink and white 'Hello Kitty' pajamas with her tied up with the towel.
"Are you sure Ultear wouldn't mind me using this?" Lucy asked and Gray waved a hand in front of him saying 'no'.
"She hates pink. Ur got her those. She doesn't like to wear them but she can't dispose of them either." He said. Then, he walked over to her and for the first time since she came out of the bathroom, she realized he had already changed into his night outfit which was a pair of boxer shorts and a T-shirt.
"So…what do you wanna do on our little sleepover party?" He winked with a smile. Lucy blushed for a moment, "I've got some DVDs… popcorn… hmmm, what else –"
"I want to hear you play the violin" she quickly interrupted.
"Oh and there's that too – wait what?! How in heaven did you know I play the violin?!"
Lucy didn't bother to answer but just pointed at the violin case that was peeping from behind his bed's headrest.
"Not a good place to keep it…" He sighed.
"Why? Doesn't anyone know that you play?" She asked curiously.
"Well, only Ultear, Erza and Cana know. Ultear found it during one of her stays and Erza and Cana have seen me play as a child. I've never told anyone else… Especially not one of the guys because while most of those girls think it's really 'romantic', the guys are sure to think of it as totally dorky."
"I don't think it's dorky"
"And THAT is why you're a girl. But anyway, now that you've already seen it…" He decided as he picked up the case and removed the instrument from within it.
He stood, back straight, placing the violin at the tip of his chin and began to play. Lucy listened carefully and watched as he played, looking so serene and calm. The tune was so difficult to judge… It was a mixture of different moods and emotions… It was almost just as full of mayhem as were those midnight blue orbs she had lost herself in a while ago. Again there was pleasantness, calm, affection…pain and sadness was something she couldn't miss…and again, there was that one emotion she just couldn't get what it was… She had seen it before too, in his eyes but even then she was unable to place it.
The melody eventually came to an end.
"T-that was…beautiful…" Lucy couldn't resist saying that and Gray chuckled.
"Not as much as you…" he replied, almost in a whisper but Lucy didn't miss it and her face was worth looking at with the blush overcoming her. Had he meant that?
"So what do you want to do next?" He asked.
"Umm…watch a movie?" She suggested. For some reason, she had suddenly become really comfortable in that icy place the raven-head called home. Gray pointed at a glassed shelf that was full of DVDs, "Why don't you check those out and make a choice?"
Lucy began to browse through his collection which almost entirely comprised of action packed thrillers that she had no interest in whatsoever. The remaining proportion of them were horror films and she was having second thoughts about those. Gray slowly walked behind her as she was staring at one of the horror movies' cover picture with a dumbstruck expression – he went closer to her ear when he saw that she wasn't paying attention and whispered a small, but effective, "Boo" and Lucy literally jumped, leaving Gray to laugh hysterically.
"A girl like you wouldn't be able to watch a horror movie without screaming your wits out so I think it's best you avoid those" Gray suggested amicably but Lucy didn't really take that well.
"What do you mean? I can watch a horror movie and be just fine" She said crossing her arms. Gray smirked.
"Okay then Luce, it's a challenge" He declared and Lucy felt like murdering herself. Why did she have to get herself into this? But her pride wouldn't let her lose so she had made up her mind to watch and remain as calm as she can. Gray began to make the arrangements – putting the microwave popcorn in the microwave, putting the DVD in the DVD player, putting on the home theater, getting the blankets and the last part which made Lucy uneasy – turning off the light.
The two sat on Gray's comfy blue bed covering themselves with the thick, fluffy duvet. The movie had only just begun when Gray felt something fall upon his shoulder and looked to see that the blonde had already fallen fast asleep. A strand of gold lingered across her features and he gently brushed it away.
"You know…we could have just gone directly to sleep if you were so tired" He whispered, giving her a peck on the side of her forehead and then laying her on the bed slowly.
"Guess I'll sleep in the other room then" He sighed as he turned off the television set and other unrequired things before going to the other room and settling down himself.
Tomorrow was going to be a long day – the day that would bring about one of the turns in each of their lives… this was one fact that neither of the two were aware of as they slept peacefully with no worry…
-The next morning, Saturday, 10 am-
"Y-you…lied to me?" I asked and even I knew how ridiculous I sounded with that stuttering voice of mine and how ridiculous I probably looked with all those tears that I was doing my best trying to hold in – now was no time to show weakness. He had betrayed me… Why? What did I do wrong?
"Yes Lucy. Yes, I did." He replied effortlessly. My reflexes took over my being as I found myself taking a step backwards slowly and then another…and another…and one more before finally I turned around and ran… as fast as my feet would take me. I squeezed my eyes tight and opened them again in an effort to get that image out of my head – the image of him holding her… when just before this he had been holding me the same way… He had cheated on me. I could never forgive him, even if it took my life.
I stopped in my tracks as I saw the same image I was trying to get out of my head standing right before me – live. I turned and saw the same and now I was surrounded by multiple of such images, all looking down on me with this smug look as if I were a joke.
"Lucy, it's over. This, what you see here, is the truth." He said. Why was this scene repeating all over again? Why was it daunting me with the grief again? And then the image changed… I felt even more horrified when I saw this one. It wasn't him anymore… It was…
"Luce…I'll always be there. I promise" It was Gray. He held out his hand to me and I wanted so much to take it but something told me not to. I wasn't supposed to, right? I had made this promise to myself of never to trust again. He began to drift away slowly and he stared at me with that same expression his eye – the emotion I could not identify… I took a step closer but his image started disappear…slowly. My hesitation refused to let me go after him, to stop him.
"I promise" his voice echoed, again and again. My heart ached and finally his image disappeared entirely, and then I shouted out to him finally, hoping for him to stop "GRAY!"
Lucy woke up immediately, upright and saw that the raven-head who had just visited her in her dreams was sitting right there, right in front of her, with an alarmed expression.
"You okay Luce?" He asked, his voice filled with concern. Lucy remained dumbstruck…
'What had that been all about? What…what happened?' She wondered to herself.
"Luce?"
"Y-yeah?" She finally replied, snapping out of her thoughts.
"What's wrong?" He asked her again.
"N-nothing…just a…bad dream" She replied, her thoughts still a bit fuzzy, but she snapped out of that too when she noticed the smirk that was beginning to form on the raven-head.
"w-why are you smiling like that?" She asked, a bit unsure if she wanted to hear the answer.
"So…you were dreaming about me huh?" He teased, "That's just so cute" he laughed, pulling her cheeks and Lucy flushed.
"HOW-DID-YOU-KNOW-THAT?!" Lucy asked quickly, all at once and then quickly covered her mouth in shock from what she had just blurted out. Gray let out of a triumphant smile.
"Don't worry. I'll give you permission to have me in your fantasies but just make sure your imagination doesn't go too wild" He winked and Lucy's blush deepened and she felt like she was going to explode. She took the pillow from behind her and slammed it on Gray's head. Then, huffing, she stomped her way out of the room. Gray laughed as he kept the pillow back up but after she left, his laughter wore away.
"Don't fall for me too hard Luce… that I won't be able to catch you later…" He said softly.
Gray walked out of his house to see that Lucy was already in her outfit of the previous night that he had volunteered to have dried. Her hairstyle though wasn't the usual simple open hair, instead, she had tied her locks into two ponytails.
"I need to get home now… So I'll leave now" She said.
"Um, wait. I'll drop you home" He ordered her and she didn't protest because truly speaking, she didn't really feel like walking home anyway. She waited till she saw Gray come out of his room in his usual attire of a jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket. She followed him out the main door and to his fairly large garage.
"Bikes…?" She asked absent-mindedly
"Yeah, I collect them. Only limited editions or really super hit latest models." He explained as he got onto one of them and waited for her to sit.
"Well…aren't you gonna get on already?" He asked and then smirked when he noticed she was fidgeting a lot, "You're not afraid of bike-rides are you?"
"W-well… I've never gotten a chance to sit on one. Being the heir to rich brethren and all, I mostly get pushed in and out of big and long cars."
Gray got off the bike and walked over to her, "come on. I'll help you onto it." He said, putting on the helmet for her. Then he took her hand and led her to the bike.
"Um, don't you think I might fall off the back?" She asked hysterically. In usual cases, such a question would make Gray laugh but seeing how she was genuinely so frightened he decided to let it be.
"You know I would have taken the car but that broke down yesterday and I have to go get it fixed and bring it back home in a while. So from that you can tell that the bike's the only option and I am NOT letting you walk home since it seems that's what you're contemplating. You need to overcome your fears." He encouraged her.
"B-but…" She began
"You won't fall off if you hold on tight" He told her.
"B-but –"
"Okay fine. I have a suggestion. You can sit at front –"
"But I can't ride it either!" She interrupted him quickly.
"Luce… calm down" He urged her, "I'm not asking you to ride it. You just sit at the front and I'll ride it from behind. With me behind you can't even fall so there's really no problem." He told her.
"But what if you can't ride it properly?"
"Don't worry about that. I've got experience. Cana ALWAYS sits at the front when she rides with me…You know we've been arguing over one bike ride for more than five minutes… that's kind of lame. Better get going now" Lucy smiled slightly at the comment.
She sat in a side-ways position at the front, since she was wearing a skirt and Gray sat behind her with his hands on the handle and in perfect position to ride. Lucy could feel his muscular torso enveloped around her, it almost felt as though he were actually holding her – there was no question of falling off the bike…but Lucy's heart sank as she thought how the proximity might make her fall for him harder. She could feel his chest move up and down as he breathed. She could feel his gaze fall upon her from time to time.
His head was so close to hers… She could see him looking at her in the rear mirror and again… that flicker of emotion she saw in his eyes… Her cheeks reddened. The look in those eyes truly had a dramatic effect on her. She could stay like that forever… but she stopped herself from trailing away into thoughts like those. She didn't want to create hope where there was none. Or was there…?
The ride came to an end of course, quite sooner than she thought.
"We're here" Gray announced and Lucy snapped out of her thoughts, "it wasn't so bad was it?" he asked her, but clearly from his voice, he too was lost somewhere in his thoughts.
"It wasn't…" She echoed an answer and then Gray got off so Lucy could get off. Lucy was just about down when her leg slipped and she was just about to fall – all her thoughts crashed away like broken glass and she was back to reality – she closed her eyes, waiting for the effect of the fall she was going to have and all this had occurred just in a moment.
Lucy waited, but the fall never did come. She could feel strong hands holding onto her and she wasn't falling, she was still. Slowly she opened her eyes, only to meet those same enticing midnight blue ones. How many times had it been since she looked into them? But she never got bored. Then that flicker of emotion… again…but this time it was stronger, more prominent and more…'felt'. What was that emotion? It made her heart race and her cheeks heat up to no end.
"Oh. My. God! That is sooooo cute!~" someone squealed.
"Yeah! And that guy is sooo hot!" Another added.
Gray coughed a fake a cough as he let go of Lucy and they both averted their eyes from one another.
"u-um, won't you come in?" Lucy asked bashfully and Gray turned to look at her with an expression that proved he had just snapped back to reality.
"What? Oh, um, no. I….I have to go get the car now" He replied and she nodded as she began walking towards her door when she heard, "Luce!" He called out to her and felt him hold onto her hand. She blushed and turned to face him, "Yeah?" She replied. He averted his eyes…
"Um, nothing" He said as he let go.
"Oh…" Her voice had a hint of disappointment but she herself wasn't aware of it. Finally she walked into her house with one last glance which to her surprise, he was still there, staring at her and that SAME flicker in eyes that kept haunting her was there again.
Gray watched as she closed the door shut and finally he got on his bike. Something was happening, he thought. He remembered that shortly long bike ride with her… it was different from the others he had had with other girls. Her scent…vanilla, he recalled and this troubled him too…why would he recall her scent? Maybe it was just so prominent, he convinced himself. But then that moment when he caught her from falling… He couldn't take his eyes off her. He had felt this surge of…it was just so hard to put it in words. Finally he rode away. He had a party to attend to tonight and not only was it a FairyTail party, it was a Strauss party. The Strauss family members were all born with this innate talent of organizing the best of events. And that meant he had to be at his best, of course there was also the fact that Mira hadn't been to a FairyTail party in a really long time and so he had to live up to her expectations, it was the least he could do.
(A/N: And THIS is where I must stop. This chapter was supposed to be the part 2 for the Valentines' special in which I was supposed to include Mirajane's party among other stuff. All that, I felt would be incomplete if I didn't add in all this so I took my time to write this instead of that. So as you must have understood, the Valentine Special part two is officially declared as incomplete.
Also, since Valentines is so obviously long gone, it would be inappropriate to call these as parts of the Valentine Special so I'm going to name these chapters as normal chapters. Due to my inability to follow the schedule I had set for myself (in which I was supposed to have made the chapter after this the valentine special). I hope you understand.)
NEXT CHAPTER: I have not yet named it though… but it's about Mira's party (THIS is the chapter I'd had in mind as the Valentine Special but even if it isn't a 'Valentine' special anymore, it IS still, I assure you, very special. So look out for it!)
