Confrontation
"So, that's how it is…" Touma muttered under his breath, after hearing the truth from his superior.
After being ignored by Yukawa Manabu, he returned feeling upset and annoyed, and that unfortunate feeling led to confrontation between superior and subordinate.
"What on earth is going on?" Touma tried his best not to lose his temper at Kusanagi Shunpei once they got into to the police car that was parked right outside the hospital. When the later did not reply, it ticked Touma off incredibly. He remembered the look on his superior's face when he saw Detective Makiko mutilated body and then back at what Yukawa's face when he said 'We have been fooled.." Touma put one to one together and fit the rest together to his theory.
"It was a trap?" Touma questioned, he looked at Kusanagi who flinched; "Yes…" the latter finally replied.
Touma glanced out of the window, "Detective Makiko isn't supposed to die…"
Kusanagi pounded the side of the car angrily, "NO, she isn't!"
"We expected, the killer to show up…" he said, shutting his eyes tightly; images of Makiko body flashed by his memory, the deep wounds across her chest and pained ghost frozen expression on her face. "We were fooled…that was not the work of the Kenichi"
Touma stared blankly at his superior for a moment, then he took a deep breath before continuing. "In this case, we do know that Kenichi is still out there working with another person… and they are bent on getting revenge against Detective Utsumi."
Kusanagi put his hand over his eyes, and heaved he didn't like the thought of that, they barely rescued her from death in exchange of another life. How long will she truly be safe?
"Where is she now?" Touma questioned or rather demanded, he used a tone that even Kusanagi could sense was beyond the relationship of colleagues.
"Hotel Rose." Kusanagi replied carefully, "We'll be moving her frequently to ensure her safety"
"Hotel? What about her treatment?" Touma asked,
"You don't have to worry about that" Kusanagi replied almost immediately, cutting off his words, but gave him a look that seemed to warn him not to speak further.
And the reason for doing so, came through knocking of the window. Touma lowered the window, it was a man, he spoke with a raspy voice "I'm sorry for interupting, I'm the security guard in charge of this hospital"
"No, its fine." Kusanagi replied but when he saw that the security guard wearing home clothes, he became curious. "You are off duty now?" he asked casually.
The security guard stared at him then laughed, "No way, I just changed. The guy before me did not cover his duties tonight, I've been called in to help out."
Both Kusanagi and Touma exchanged glances, the security guard before him did not turn up…then who was the person who informed them at the criminal has been spotted near the hospital?
