Chapter 10

Winry was stuffing bacon into her mouth when their doorbell rang. She picked up her rucksack on the floor beside her and made her way to the door. "Bye granny!" She said after swallowing her bacon. She opens the door and outside, Ed was waiting for her, as usual.

But this time, she's too nervous she can't even look at him, not after what happened during the weekend. She slowly closes their front door with her back on Ed; an excuse just to avoid his eyes.

Now the door's closed and she has no choice but to turn and face him. When she did, their eyes meet. Winry could feel herself blush a little, she doesn't even know why, and they just smile awkwardly at each other. "Mornin' Winry" Ed said.
"Good mornin' Ed" She replies.

The two of them start to walk to their school, as they normally would every morning. But the air between them was a bit different now.

Winry didn't like how silent it was, so she gathered enough courage to say something.
"S-so.. were you able to study for our quiz this time?" She said
"Yeah.. I just hope I'll be able to remember all the stuff I read." Ed replied, scratching the back of his head.
He smiled, which made Winry smile too.

He actually meant what he said though. Because while trying to study during the weekend, he couldn't stop thinking about Winry.

Not much was said after that as they walked to school. They'd steal glances of each other though, and from time to time,
they'd catch each other's eyes and then they'd look away quickly. Soon enough, they got to their classroom.
"See ya" Ed said to Winry.
"Mmm" She nodded.

"Morning, miss secretary!" Ling greeted. Winry smiled and waved at him, walking to her seat. Ed was already seated in front of Ling, feeling annoyed. He's still not used to Ling and Winry being really close friends. "Yo!" Ling said to him. Ed grunted and forced himself to turn around. "Morning.." He replied.

"D'you and Winry like.. Live together or something?"
Ed was going to react violently to that statement, but Rose butted in on the coversation.
"No, Ed just lives across the street from her." She said, a little too quickly, a tone in her voice. Ling thought it suspicious.
"Well sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or anything." Ling said, jokingly.

Rose blushed and realized that Ling might've hinted something. Something only Winry knows.
"N-no.. It's just that.. I asked them the same thing a few days ago." She said. The stuttering didn't help at all.

Ling's suspecting that Rose probably has feelings for Ed (which she does) but let the thought slip when Armstrong enters their room. Most of the class is used to his presence now though, so not everyone noticed him enter.

"Good morning class!" His voice fills the room. "I've got a little announcement, so please settle down."
The students are now quiet, some are going back to their designated seats.

"We're holding a school festival next week." He announces. The class burst into conversation again.
Armstrong didn't mind the noise this time and just continued saying "So the class officers will be having a meeting
later this evening so we can plan for the said festival."

At the back, Winry sighed as she heard Armstrong's announcement about the meeting. She'd have to stay at the end of their last class, plus,
she won't be going home with Ed. Oh well.. She thought. After Armstrong's announcements, they were dismissed early so they had some
free time till their next class.

Winry wanted to tell Ed that he could just go home without her later, so she walked over to where he's seated. She noticed that Ling's seat
is empty and saw that Ling's sitting on Lan Fan's desk talking to her; Lan Fan slightly blushing in her seat. She's not even looking at Ling straight in the eyes. Winry wonders if there's something between them, or Lan Fan is just really shy or something.

Whatever they are to each other, they still look cute together.

Then her thoughts strayed off to thinking if she and Ed look good together too. She blushed to herself and shook it off.
She sits on Ling's seat behind Ed and calls his name. "Ed" she says.

"What is it?" He replied, a bit startled that it was Winry behind him and not Ling.
"Just wanted to tell you that you can just go home ahead of me later."
"Why?" He asks, disappointed.
"In case you weren't listening to Sir Armstrong a while ago, the class officers have a meeting later after school."
"Oh..." Was all he could say.

Rose couldn't help but overhear their conversation. She thought that this would be the day she could finally walk home with Ed.
She grabbed the opportunity and went ahead and asked Ed.

"Hey Ed." She said
Ed (and Winry) looked at her.
"I was thinking.. since you're walking home alone later, is it okay if you accompany me?"
Ed hesitated and didn't know what to say. He paused for a bit, trying to come up with an excuse.

Meanwhile, Winry was thinking to herself.. Geez, she's so up front with this. Shouldn't the guy be the one to offer a walk home?
Well, I'm sure Ed would turn her down. She's just too desperate.
Winry stood up, shaking her head.

"I guess I could, Rose." Ed replied, making Winry turn around. He couldn't think of anything, so he had no choice.
He isn't good with getting out of these situations.
"Great!" Rose replied, grinning from ear to ear.
Winry felt like imploding. She felt this strange feeling many times before, but won't accept the fact that she's...

"Jealous, are you?" Someone said from behind her that made her jump.
She turned to see Ling. "What the! No I'm not!" She rebutted.
"And since when did you get here?" She looked around to see that Lan Fan was sitting alone now
"Just as soon as Rose asked Ed to walk home with her." He said

Winry pouted and made her way to her seat, Ling following her.
"Just admit you're jealous, Winry." He said, jokingly.
"No I'm not." She replied.
"It would make you feel a lot better if you just admit it." He insisted.
"Jealous my foot." She said, taking her seat.

Their argument about her being jealous or not continued. Ed couldn't help but notice that they're talking again and
grunted at the sight of them together.
Rose saw that Ed can't stop glaring at the two and said, disappointed..

"Ed, are you... jealous that Ling is talking to Winry?"
"W-what? No, I'm just... Curious as to what they're talking about."
He said, looking away from the two too quickly and not looking at Rose straight in the eyes.
"Well.. okay" Rose replied, not convinced.

From afar, Rose could see that Ling told Winry something that made Winry look at Ed and she blushed, punching
Ling's arm. If Winry is into Ed now... She thought. Then I guess this means war
