Chapter 9: Hell's bent Angel
~QOoOQ~
"Who's there!?"
~QOoOQ~
The blonde sighed and rolled over to face away from her fiancé, it had been a day since the announcement of their engagement and lately she had found herself being glared at by a few maids who dared to approach her-that was until she pulled out her katana and asked them what they wanted to which they would boy and scurry away. Lucy was unaware as to who this 'Lissanna' character was but from what she had heard she guessed the girl was a former mistress of Natsu's and she guessed the two had gotten close until recently, she doubted the reason was because of her otherwise the ruler would have never offered her this position right off the bat so she assumed something had happened prior to her arrival.
Although the only person the blonde found she could truly trust were those who had been in the room for her judging when she had first entered Hell and Emily, anyone else she would refuse to acknowledge for both hers and Natsu's protection. She remembered a maid cleaning their room one day when she came back from training and watched as she searched their closets and any small places things could be kept-it angered her to see something like this and that made had cleaned their room multiple times yet she never attempted to do anything when Lucy came back, and there she was stealing whatever she could find.
Rumors continued to circulate around her, mean comments about how she dressed and acted unfit for being the next Queen truthfully, the blonde could hear everything they said despite their attempted secrecy but she acted like she was oblivious to those around her and kept her guard up like she always had. Maybe she was just denying the feelings she gets whenever they speak about her behind her back or maybe she just simply cant accept the fact that she is hurt by what they say but either way the blonde couldn't deny the small tightening in her chest.
Brown eyes stared lazily at the ceiling, Lucy couldn't even explain why she was so caught up with what's been happening around the castle and the whispered words that work their way around the place, she never cared about anything like that before so why was it any different now? She shook her head and turned her gaze to the window, she hadn't been able to sleep much that night-her thoughts swarming around her fathers reaction to her death, had he mourned her like he had her mother? Was he angered and seeking revenge?
Rolling her eyes she slowly sat up and stretched, she was getting nowhere just lying in bed and waiting for sleep to come so she decided a short walk would be better. Wrapping her robe around her scantly covered body, Lucy snuck out of her shared room and out into the halls where she knew no one would see her-the maids being asleep and the guards were at their switching point, she having remembered their scheduled switch times. It was the perfect opportunity to have some time to herself and take a nice walk during the night-something she hadn't done since she was alive.
Life was something Lucy hadn't come to fully understand until her own ended, she realized life was short for a baby-they could live many years or breathe their last breath within seconds of being born, the blonde fully understood the meaning of death for she had been someone to bring it to many others but she never could fully comprehend what it meant to live. Opening the castle doors she took a step outside and shuffled quietly, she found herself to be neither alive nor dead she was just there, breathing-yes, that was a sign of living but she didn't appear to have any emotions, in a sense she was void of emotion-dead.
This was something she had dealt with each day, knowing she didn't fully belong to a society full of loving people or to one filled with murderers and crime, she knew how to do both, she knew how to love- her relationship with her mother was proof of such- but she also knew how to kill and being the trained assassin she was, she took some pride to that fact. Natsu had shown her though, he showed her what it was like to truly be feared and to truly be loved, he was loved by his friends and feared by his enemies, something she hadn't been able to be a part of when she first arrive but as of now-Lucy felt more involved with everyone and even dared to call them her own friends.
Her lip twitched upward slightly, Levy was her closest friend and although she was involved with the pierced idiot her fiancé had a rivalry with, the blonde found her to be delightful company with many things in common with herself, Erza and Jellal-she found- were a close second as to who she was closest with, they would duel at some points during her training and even gave her some tips that Lucy hadn't known herself-surprisingly. She adored Yukino and Rogue, the two were extremely shy and quiet but when they were talking their intelligence had overpowered most in the room with them, it had been amusing to watch on several occasions.
Gray was someone she admired, he was smart and was able to formulate a plan under pressure but his mistress on the other hand-she was a different story, apparently Juvia had proclaimed the blonde as her 'Love Rival' after seeing how well she and the raven haired demon got along, on the contrary-Lucy had no interest in stripping perverts. Lastly there was Mira and Laxus, Mirajane had been nothing but kind and sweet to her but the blonde often noticed that the demon would pry into her relationship with Natsu and the amount of intimacy they share which hadn't been much although her husband made Lucy feel as if she were his little sister, it felt oddly nice to be a part of a loving family once again.
Lucy suddenly stopped, her movements coming to an abrupt halt as her body tensed- no one should be around where she was which happened to be the rose garden and yet she felt eyes burning into the back of her head, her first thought was to grab her katana but after remembering she left it in her room along with her locket she cursed silently. "Who's there!?" Before the blonde could even react a sudden flash caught her sight followed by searing pain all over her body, a scream erupted from her lips as she felt continuous punches land on her body followed by sharp blades digging into her skin. Lucy had to be honest, it was the worst kind of pain she had ever felt; it was excruciating.
Cracking her eyes open, she just barely caught a glimpse of angelic wings and immediately the blonde knew just what was attacking her; an angel. Words were hissed at her in a foreign tongue that even Lucy herself had no clue as to what was being said to her but by the slowing movements and bag in the angels hand, she could only assume that it meant for her to come along with it. A flash of confusion overtook her, had Sting sent the angel to attack her? If it was him then why, hadn't he already made his position, he had bribed her and told her to choose between Natsu and her mother-giving her exactly three days to give him an answer and yet it had only been one day and she was being attacked and taken against her will.
Heavy footsteps were heard behind them and for once Lucy was thankful for her easily awoken family and friends for without their sensitivity to their surroundings-she may have been taken from her new home in Hell. "Lucy!" she knew who the voice belonged to, Natsu had come to save her-the thought pulling a weak smile onto her lips as the angel glanced at the approaching group before flying off of her but not without spatting a few more incoherent words toward her. Crimson liquid fell in front of her eyes as a pair of knees dropped down in front of the orbs before she was rolled onto her back with her face cupped in a familiar warm hand that was owned by her fiancé. "Luce..."
Bloody coughs erupted from her swollen and slightly cut lips as she stared into Natsu's eyes, "A...A-angel," why was she weak? She could barely even speak one word to him and yet was she not immortal? This was Hell after all and Lucy never thought that someone could die but it was obvious that their pain sensitivity was very well still there among them. Maybe she just needed to get stronger, after all by the look in the pinkette's eyes it seemed she wouldn't have to wait long to see a war between two different dimensions. He shook his head only causing her dizzy mind to become worse and although she was sure she was hallucinating, Lucy thought she could see tears gathering in his eyes as sleep finally started to catch up with her.
"Don't speak Luce," she heard him say as her eyes fully shut, the pain slowly fading form her as she felt herself floating in mid air, "I promise I will stop this, I'll keep you safe." Just before her consciousness slipped from her she felt soft warmth press against her mouth momentarily before her awareness faded fully.
