Ch. 9 Cause for Concern

You all know what time it is! Time for the fallout from Gabe's need to be helpful but what exactly did he find? I guess you all will just have to read to find out.

In other news, Scholar of the First Sin is coming out in last than a week for DS II and I am extremely excited for it...even though I have yet to even get close to beating DS I and DS II. I have a decent build on it but the Sentinels and the Smelter Demon are kicking the ever loving hell out of me.

"So what's the damage?" Cayde asked with a heavy sigh that sounded like grinding gears. "Is he only slightly beat up or he's down for the count?"

Doctor Kala sighed as she turned to Eddie. "You were right about Hypovolemic shock. We found multiple areas of internal bleeding and a few pieces of metal were lodged in his right leg and one unfortunate piece was stuck in the bone." she said before turning back to the mentors and consulting her pad. "We had to do three surgeries as soon as we had him in the ICU before we could begin to assess the other injuries. After those were done he had 5 broken ribs and two of those had pierced his lung and one was threatening to pierce his skin, he did have a fractured ankle, his right arm was broken in two places along with a fractured wrist and to top it all off the Thrall arm went through and through."

Theresa gave a noticeable flinch. "The only time I've heard of a Guardian with that number of injuries is after facing a couple of Fallen Walkers but the severity..." she trailed off worriedly.

"He's going to be fine correct?" Avora asked curiously though if you listened closely there was a hint of worry in her voice.

"He's currently still in shock but he is stable. We are looking at a month before he's fit for light duty and about 2 and a half before he's fully combat ready again." Dr. Kala said as she flipped through her pad. "Before you ask, no he can't receive visitors right now due to medical evaluations."

"I see, keep us updating then." Cayde replied before Kala with. "How are you going to explain this?" Cayde asked as Eddie frowned.

"I thought he would be right behind us though saying that out loud really sounds stupid." Eddie replied as Cayde rubbed his metallic forehead.

"I don't know if I need to lecture him or you three. Make no mistake, this will go against all of your records but at least he isn't dead." Cayde replied as the three Guardians flinched.

Theresa was about to air her own thoughts before Ikora cut her off. "Yes you are partly responsible for not making sure he was with you all. You arrive on a mission as a team and you come back as a team with no exceptions." Theresa frowned but didn't comment.

"I want you all to look at what we managed to find." Gabe's Ghost said as it dropped the metal parts and wire on the table with a thud. "This might seem unassuming but when you start putting them together." he finished as the parts began to fall into place and a small cylinder formed.

"It's a container, what's the big deal?" Theresa asked as Gabe's Ghost shook.

"It's different, when Gabe had me scan for anything out of the ordinary I detected trace amounts of an unknown energy on them. After collecting what we could we took shelter in the Skiff and that's when Gabe started having some ideas about what happened." Gabe's Ghost replied as it told them of their theory.

"A bomb?" Zavala questioned with a frown.

"A very crude one but yes, the wires connected to a reserve battery in the firing line. When an over charged bolt passed through the line the computer shaved off any excess energy and placed it in a battery where it was then routed back into the chambers during maintenance. The wiring made the energy discharge into the bomb and the crater was the result." Gabe's Ghost replied as Avora shook her head.

"It doesn't explain the crater though." Avora said sternly.

"We actually have an explanation for that too. I identified the energy but I don't think you'll like it." Gabe's Ghost replied as he looked at Ikora and Theresa.

Theresa frowned. "What?"

Eddie frowned too until it dawned on him. "You aren't serious right?"

"I am and everything matches up." Gabe's Ghost replied sternly. "We have manufactured Void."

"Impossible." Theresa said simply but Ikora studied the compound closely.

"No it's not impossible but it was considered near impossible. You say the Fallen did this?" Ikora asked as the Ghost dipped in acknowledgment while Theresa gaped like a fish.

"Yes, the Cabal have no interest in Earth, the Hive don't use Technology save for ships and the Vex don't need it which only leaves the Fallen." The Ghost replied as the mentors frowned. "There is a bit of good news, we believe its only a prototype and not being mass produced yet so we can be on the lookout from now on."

"How did it get on the Skiff?" Eddie asked though he knew the answer.

"Rival house with a grudge most likely." Zavala stated with a frown.

"Great, now I'm stuck between giving him a lecture or giving him a medal." Cayde said with a sigh.

"This energy is really inert until you feed energy into." The Ghost said as it pulled up a project. "When it's placed in the container it's harmless save for the toxicity of it but it's calm, however when you introduce energy you get this." Ghost finished as it showed a small strand of energy entering the device and the explosion.

"How would something that small make that big of an impact?" Theresa asked worriedly as she started to understand.

"It might be calm but it's highly reactive." Ikora said as she analyzed the data on the bomb. "The more energy introduced into it the bigger the destruction. With a big enough device and a sizable energy input then the entire city could be gone in an instant." she finished as the mentors tensed up.

"In lieu of recent findings by your team, I am sending out orders in regards to this. You will receive your briefings later. Dismissed." Zavala said as the three Guardians walked out.

-Scene Change-

Eddie stared through the small window at an unconscious Gabe. He was currently connected to both an oxygen machine and an IV bag as his skin showed numerous stitches and scars from battle. It wasn't the first time Eddie saw a Guardian in the ICU but seeing a Guardian that was only 19 in there just seemed wrong to him. "Not even an adult and already near death." He mused to himself.

"Visiting hours are over Eddie." Dr. Kala said sternly as Eddie only shook his head.

"Just thinking Doctor, thinking why someone that young and that inexperienced was picked for this." Eddie said as Dr. Kala shrugged.

"It's not our place to question who gets chosen, only to lead those newly arisen against the Darkness." Dr Kala said as Eddie sighed again.

"Such is the way of the Guardian." Eddie finished as he looked at Kala. "Make sure he's in good hands and tell Warner I said hey."

"Will do although he wanted me to tell you that have the biggest pair in the galaxy." Kala said with a small grin as Eddie gave a small chuckle.

"That sounds like him, just make sure that Gabe sticks to the medical treatments." Eddie replied as he waved and walked off.

"You aren't the only one to question why he is in this field." Kala said as she gazed back at Gabe. "Poor kid looks like he was put through more hell then any Guardian in history. What did you do in the past?"

-With Theresa-

"So he isn't as bad as you thought." Theresa Ghost said as Theresa sank into her bath with a sigh.

"That remains to be seen and I'm still not convinced." Theresa said as she sank lower in the bath.

"You really should loosen up around him, he isn't all that bad. Sure he did nearly get himself killed but what he found more than made up for the inconvenience." Her Ghost replied as Theresa shook her head.

"No it just gave us something else to worry about." Theresa replied with a shrug.

"If you took the time to talk to him you might discover more. He isn't that bad on the eyes either." Her Ghost said as Theresa gave it a scathing look.

"How about no and why didn't you three speak up in the debriefing?" Theresa asked curiously.

"We were informed of everything by Gabe's Ghost on the way to the Tower and after a moment of thought we all agreed that it was the most plausible. Also, we weren't the ones who discovered this so it wasn't our place to disagree." Her ghost replied as Theresa frowned.

"How did it get by me?" Theresa wondered absentmindedly.

"The compound was made so that you would never find it unless you searched for it specifically. It closely matches the normal Warlock Void but it's more destructive than helpful." Her Ghost replied as Theresa sighed.

"At least we can go solo again for now." Theresa said as she sank completely underwater.

-With Avora-

"On your way to speak with the Queen again?" Avora's Ghost asked as Avora entered some coordinates in the ships computer.

"They have to at least be told and no one else will, save for Eddie but the last time he got into a punching match with her brother." Avora said as the ship accelerated.

"Many Guardians have wanted to do that for years." Her Ghost said as Avora gave a small smile.

"Many of the Awoken wish to do the same but out of fear of the Queen they don't." Avora stated as the familiar tunnel of Warp Space appeared.

"Eddie doesn't seem to care anymore though." Her Ghost said as Avora nodded.

"He's been doing this for 10 years so I guess that we can assume that he stopped caring a long time ago." Avora stated with a sigh.

"Is there something wrong?" Her Ghost asked worriedly.

"Maybe we should've at least visited Gabe before we left. Other than a few interactions with other Guardians he has been alone." Avora said as the ship gave a lurch forward and exited Warp Space and a mix between an asteroid belt and a ship graveyard appeared in the window.

"I could send him a message but he won't see it until he wakes." Her Ghost offered as Avora thought for a moment.

"Please do, that way he has something waiting for him." Avora said as her Ghost went to work and she went to dock.

And cut and wrap it up everyone! Yea, I'm stopping here mainly because I wanted to show the fallout of Gabe's decision and because I ran out of ideas on my outline lol. Still I am satisfied with the chapter and I hope the rest of you are too.

Bear in mind that the medical quality in Destiny is eons beyond what we have so what would normally take someone a half a year to over a year to recover from would only take a couple months then. Also, to make this more realistic, ghost re-spawning has to be done within a very short time frame, like a few seconds, or else the Guardian passes away in my story. If this upsets anyone then I'm sorry but I'm trying to make it more difficult and dangerous for the Guardians so that they can showcase what they can really do.

Read and review and I'll see you all next time!
