Chapter 1:

Annabeth's POV

"Annabeth Chase."

Ugh, mom I don't want to go to school today.

"Annabeth Chase, I suggest that you go to bed earlier instead of sleeping in my class." My head shot up, I heard snickers throughout the class. I completely forgot! I'm already at school. I drew my head away from my desk, covered in the scars from kids who, like me, would rather be anywhere else, to look up at Mr. Parley, my Social Studies teacher. Social Studies, what a drag, the only reason I took this class in the first place was because of Mr. Parley, who is pretty much the best looking male in existence, but when he took a serious disliking for me the third week into classes my love for him crashed and burned. Mr. Parley, satisfied with my, unwilling, attention, strode over to his desk and pushed a stack of papers over before taking a seat where they had previously been. He ran his hand through his hair before continuing what he had been saying before he woke me up from my desperate dream of being anywhere but in this class.

"By next Tuesday I expect you to be done reading My Sister's Keeper, which you can pick up from that pile by the door as you are leaving." Another reason I hate this class so much: the books Mr. Parley makes us read. What Social Studies teacher sets reading lists anyways?

A shrill ringing, which has overtime become my favorite sound, erupts throughout the school. I swing my bag over my shoulder, grab my pen from my desk and snatch a copy of My Sister's Keeper as I join the tsunami of students desperate to leave the room.

HTS High has around 850 students, which isn't a lot compared to some of the other high schools that are scattered around the state of New York. But walking into a cafeteria filled with 850 teens that are all desperate for the same thing: food, is possibly the scariest thing anyone ever has to endure.

Fortunately, I'm smart enough to pack my own lunch every morning; there's no way I'm going to wait in a ridiculously long line for food that doesn't even taste remotely good. I throw myself down in my regular seat, next to my best friend Luke. We've been best friends since freshmen year; he used to hang out with this kid called Percy Jackson; Luke has always excelled at school, straight As unlike Percy who is talented at every art known to mankind: drawing, painting, music, photography; this lack of common interests slowly caused them to stop hanging out, stop being friends, it was at this point that Luke and I started hanging out.

I pull my lunch out of my bag. "Let me guess," Luke glances over at me, "cheese and turkey sandwich." I have had the same thing for lunch every day since 7th grade, now I'm in 11th grade and nothing has changed.

"Nothing's changed." I give him a small smile as we are joined by our other friends: Katie, Connor and his twin Travis, Silena and Charles.

After sitting down Katie looks over at me. "How was Social Studies?" I roll my eyes. It's no secret that I hate that class.

"He's making us read My Sister's Keeper."

Travis looks up from his food. "Isn't there a movie for that? Just watch the movie." He tells me while shrugging. Luke scoffs disapprovingly.

Out of the corner of my eye I notice Percy Jackson leaving the cafeteria, that's weird; he usually just keeps himself locked up in the music room over lunch. I shrug it off and turn to listen to Silena and Connor's conversation about which movie is better, Mockingjay part 1 or The Maze Runner.

I don't get home until late because Luke and I went to the library after school to do our homework. My parents don't notice me come in. They hardly ever notice anything I do anymore, so caught up in work that they don't pay me any attention, I supposed that I'm used to it though, so I walk through the kitchen and up the stairs, passing my parent's office on the way to my room, coming from their office is the sound of typing, typical. I swear I could not come home for a whole week and they wouldn't even notice the lack of my presence. I'm invisible to them.

Hope it was alright! Please leave a comment below. Thanks
