Summary: No one paid her much attention, Naruto's landlady, this woman who paid visits to the Uchiha compound with baskets of bread and fruit for the little Uchiha survivor. The woman who sat down to dinner with the Nine Tails Jinchuriki...who had befriended the silent Itachi, the impassive Kakashi...and had enraptured the hearts of Kushina and Minato...no one paid her any attention, until she's forced to act as a Shinobi of the Hidden Leaf Village once again.

Kagome stared ahead as Naruto shot forward, red chakra seeping from his body as he attacked Mizuki. She felt a hand on her injury and her eyes met the obsidian black eyes of a worried Sasuke who had pulled her a bit so that her head was on his knees.
"Kagome, stay with us!"
She wasn't dying...she was okay...she couldn't leave yet. She couldn't... her eyes turned back to Naruto as he yelled something. For a moment, she thought she was going insane as he seemed to multiply by a hundred right before her eyes.
"...whoa..." Sasuke watched as Naruto fought Mizuki on his own. Iruka stood up and looked on with the same look of shock before moving to Kagome. "Don't worry about Kagome...I'll take her to the hospital. You take care of Mizuki-Sensei, and make sure nothing happens to Naruto." Sasuke lifted Kagome onto his back, taking her legs under his arms before he ran off and left Mizuki to Iruka and Naruto.
Kagome wondered why it sounded as if everyone was muffled, but she brushed it off with drowsiness and blood loss. She was sure, she could have blocked that attack...but maybe...maybe this was for the best.

"I've got you Kagome..." Sasuke said to the woman on his back as he ran towards the Gate of Konoha. The guards at the front stopped him before he could get too far however, and he growled out his irritation with them.
"Let me take her, I'm quicker. She's losing too much blood, Sasuke."
Reluctantly, Sasuke handed her over to the older Shinobi and true to his words, he was gone before he could say anything. He turned to the other nin, "Mizuki set Naruto up...he lied to him and told him to steal the scroll." Sasuke told the guard at the gate.
"What!? Mizuki?"
"Kagome was hurt defending Naruto and I... she and Iruka-Sensei were fighting him off, and now Iruka and Naruto are fighting him."
He nodded before creating a shadow clone to deliver the information to the Hokage.
"I'm going to the Hospital to look after Kagome. When you see Naruto return...can you tell him where Kagome is?"
The Gate guard nodded and watched Sasuke retreat towards the Hospital.
Sasuke didn't waste a moment when he ran inside and asked the receptionist for Kagome's room. Pointed in the right direction, he raced down the hall and turned into the room where he was quickly ushered back out into the hall to wait until the doctor was done with her. The guy who brought her there ruffled his hair as he sat down beside him.
"Don't worry so much. I don't know her personally, but I do know of her. Kagome is strong...she won't die, kid."
Sasuke glared, but then, his eyes softened, and he sighed, "yeah...I know she won't. She has to live...for Naruto...and for me..."
The guy smiled, "I have to go back to my post, before that...I don't think I gave my name. I'm Kotetsu, and Izumo is my Partner..."
Sasuke frowned, "why are you introducing yourself?"
Kotetsu laughed a bit, "because after what I saw tonight, I'm sure we will be seeing more of you in the future. Konoha...has a bright future ahead of it, if what I saw tonight was anything to go by."
"...what you saw tonight?" Sasuke frowned.
"Sasuke, you can go in now, Kagome is fine." The nurse smiled as she walked out of the room Kagome was in.
Sasuke glanced at the nurse and nodded his thanks in her direction. Turning back to Kotetsu, he frowned when all he saw was an empty hall. "...I..." he shook his head, "whatever, it doesn't even matter." He entered the room and was still a bit pale at the vision of so much blood spilling from the woman who had basically taken his best friend in. She was so important to Naruto...and...to him. She and Naruto were all he had left in Konoha. They stayed by his side...when he became a gossip topic, and they shared their time with him. He had thought about pushing the two of them away and had even tried to...but Kagome would have none of that. She'd picked him up and completely ignored his yells for her to let him go, and she'd carried him all the way back to her place where Naruto was eating ramen in her Kitchen. He had yelled at her, fought with her, argued and called both Kagome and Naruto names...in the end, they ate dinner together, and laughed together. They were his family...he would do anything to protect what little family he had left. '...Kagome... Naruto, and even...Itachi.'

(The Next Day)
Kakashi looked at Kagome, he received the run-down version of last night's events from Iruka, who was kind enough to fill him in on what had happened while he'd been away on a quick mission...but nothing was clicking. She looked to be in one piece, but the thought that Mizuki had attacked her, stabbed her. He turned his eyes to Naruto who had his head resting against Sasuke's shoulder, both boys were completely unconscious.
"They stayed awake until early morning," the nurse across from him said softly, so not to wake the two kids. "They wanted to be here when she woke up, but...Kagome must have worn herself out last night. We had thought she'd wake up sooner, to be perfectly honest, but I guess she's been pushing herself."
"Pushing herself?" He asked curiously.
"Mm," she smiled, "she takes care to provide freshly picked vegetables and fruits to most if not all of the families in Konoha, so she's always gardening when she isn't taking care of her housing. On top of that, she's...always...watching out for Naruto." The nurse finished adjusting the needle in Kagome's arm and tapped her drip. "She loves these two...we all can see it. She forgets however, to take care of herself."
"Sukui...you...pay quite a bit of attention to Kagome."
"Oh?" She laughed, "perhaps it's the other way around...maybe you don't pay enough attention. All I told you, is what everyone in Konoha already knows...even those two boys there, would tell you the same thing in their own words." She waved a silent farewell as she left the room to see to her next patient.
Kakashi took one last look at Kagome, he would be meeting with his team today, his eyes turned to Naruto and Sasuke. 'Maybe I should have turned the Hokage down...now that I'm thinking about it. The only reason I agreed...was...' he sighed, "Kagome and Naruto...what's one more reason..." he smiled a little before vanishing without ever leaving a trace of his being there.
