This is a flashback. We're going back in Magnus while under the spell. Sorry for ya'll excited to see Malec.
When Magnus first opened his eyes, he expected to be back in Indonesia where he had been hiding for the past few months. He thought that he would wrapped up in the soft blankets and covered in beautiful silk pillows that he summoned. He expected for the bright sun for rain down on his face like a magical spotlight and to be awoken by the sounds of the animals that roamed around the estate. But he didn't feel or hear any of that. It was just silent. Way too silent to be considered comfortable. Magnus forced himself up to see if he was in the Institute or his hotel room but saw nothing but black.
It wasn't like he was trapped in darkness. It was different. Like he was in a large room that had black floors, black paint, black ceiling and no windows. Magnus could see perfectly fine, as stated it wasn't darkness that surrounded the room. But he was confused. Who had brought him here? What had happened? Magnus forced himself up onto his knees and he patted his head. There was no pain. Had he been knocked out? Taken hostage? He was trying to wrap his head around the situation when the memories finally started to come back to him.
The demons attacking the Institute. Him saving Underhill and Raj's life. Johnathan being there in the Institute and threatening Magnus and Alec. Johnathan escaping the magic that Magnus had laid down on him. The green potion bottle that Magnus knew way too well. Johnathan grabbing Lydia. Using the rest of his magic to trade places with Lydia. The potion being shoved down his throat. Magnus knew now as he wiped some of his hair out of his face.
He had saved Lydia's life.
He was under the spell.
Magnus didn't know that this is what you saw while under the spell. He looked around, searching for a source of light and a way to maybe let the nephilim know that he was alright while under the spell. Magnus looked down and tried to move his hands to activate his magic. Nothing came out of his hands but just a few small yellow sparks. Nothing huge. No magic. He couldn't connect to it. Dammit. Magnus sighed and slammed his hands against his thighs. He was guessing that he'd be here for a long time. He was just going to have to wait until the shadowhunters woke him up.
They did it with Jocelyn. They could do it with him.
Magnus pressed his forehead against his knees to think of something to do while waited.
"Hello there."
Magnus screamed and jumped up to his feet. He immediately held up his fists. He had learned how to fight during his many, many years of life. He had learned karate, taekwondo, jujitsu, muay thai and judo while in Japan and New York and he was pretty damn good at it. Maybe he wasn't under the spell and he really was being held hostage. Just in a creatively painted room. And also one with magic dampening. So if he truly was in the same room as one of his captors, he would put his training to use and make sure that they leave the room with at least twelve of their bones broken and three shattered.
But as he turned to attack his captor but froze at the sight of who it was. It was him. Magnus raised his eyebrows and looked down at his own clothes to make sure that he wasn't looking in a mirror. The Magnus in front of him was dressed in a loose shirt and his goatee was missing. Magnus himself was still dressed in his rose gold blazer and his goatee was there. "What the-" he tried to say to himself but the kind of apparition spoke first.
"I didn't mean to frighten you." it said, raising his hand with a smile.
Magnus raised his eyebrow at it. "Okay, first things first, your eye-shadow in blended terribly. You didn't use a transition shade and it looks awful. Secondly... what the hell are you? What's going on?"
"Don't you recognize me. Look at me. I am you."
"No you are not me, because I am right here." Magnus stated. "Did I get a concussion from saving Underhill?"
"You do not have a concussion, you're under a spell." the other Magnus said. "Remember, you stepped in front of Lydia and drank the potion instead. Thus saving her life and you ending up here."
"So does other non blended eye-shadow wearing other people just show up while under this spell?" Magnus asked.
"You're one to talk about my eye-shadow. Your highlight doesn't even compliment your skin."
Magnus opened his mouth wide and covered his highlighted cheek. "Excuse you. But gold highlight looks amazing on me since I got a tan."
The other Magnus smiled and ran his hand over his eyes. The eye-shadow was replaced with better looking liner. Magnus shrugged at it. "Now, if you're done making fun of our makeup, I have things to show you."
"What do you mean 'our'?"
"I am you Magnus. Just from months before." the other Magnus said, stepping forward. "Now come on, I have things to show you from your past."
The other Magnus waved his hand around and the black of the room started to shift. Magnus stood there flabbergasted. He had never seen magic used like this before. The black room wafted and created Magnus old loft. The furniture was created and Magnus ended up standing on top of his old favorite end table.
"I should have warned you to take a step back." the other Magnus said.
"Yeah, no shit warlock." Magnus said jumping down and wiping off his blazer. He looked around. "What the hell is going on? Why are we in my old loft?"
"To show you something." the other Magnus said. He pointed out to the front door as there was a knock. "Watch."
Magnus looked out and watched as another him walked out from the hall. Magnus recognized himself and his outfit. This was from a couple of months ago, before Clary came into the shadow world. He watched himself walk out to the door followed by little Chairman Meow.
"Oh my sweet little kitten how I've missed him." Magnus said before being sushed by the other Magnus.
"Shut up Magnus and watch yourself."
"Okay, if this is going to work and you're going to show me multiple me's, can I at least call you and all the other Magnus' that I'm seeing something other than the other me, or the second me, or another Magnus?!"
"Fine." the other Magnus said back. "Call me M, okay? Now shut up and watch."
Magnus and MB turned over to watch the them from a while ago walk over and open the door. A olden couple walked inside the room with smiles on their faces. "Magnus!" the woman said with a smile, moving over and pulling the warlock into a tight hug.
That Magnus accepted the hug from the woman and then the hug from the older man. Magnus smiled, remembering this day. "Come in, come in, come in." he said to them, summoning some tea and cookies onto the coffee table. The two took a seat on the sofa and Mags made his way over to them. That Magnus gave them a warm smile. "So, what can I help you with this fine Wednesday afternoon?"
"Well, we have very exciting news." the man said., taking the woman's hand in his own. "We... we're having a baby!"
Magnus remembered this day. He remembered this young warlock couple coming into him and telling him about the beautiful child that they would be having very very soon. His face fell with a bit of sadness identical to the one that the previous him. That Magnus was looking at them with a bit of shock and a tiny hint of anger. Magnus watched himself stand up from his seat and give the same expression that he was giving right now.
"Well I'm... I'm really, really happy for you both." That Magnus said with a fake smile while rubbing the rings on his fingers. "This is amazing! Do you know the gender of the child?"
"That's actually why we're here." the man said. "We were wondering if you could tell us what our child's gender is. We're willing to pay you."
"Why are you showing me this?" Magnus asked, looking at MB.
"Just watch, okay? Okay." MB said, looking back out at the scene. That Magnus from before knelt down in front of the woman and run his magic over her stomach that was showing a small bump. Magnus remembered the feeling that he felt feeling the baby inside the woman. How sad he felt. That he would never be able to feel that happiness. That love that the two had. Magnus put his head down and shook his head.
That Magnus removed his hand and faked a smile at the two couple. "Well, first things first, I went above and beyond and found out your due date. Your baby is due January Twenty-Second." he said, making the two smile. "And your baby is going to be a healthy baby girl."
"Did you hear that Willy? A baby girl!" the older woman gasped to her husband. "Oh Magnus, we can't thank you enough!"
"How much do you want? Or what do you want? Gold? Pearls? We have enough to pay you." the man said to him.
"No, no, no. You have no reason at all to pay me." That Magnus said. "You're both creating a family, which is the most amazing thing in this world. You both go on ahead. It's okay."
The woman stood up and pulled the warlock into a hug. Magnus smiled at how kind she was, no matter how jealous he was of the couple. Magnus and MB watched as the old version of themselves walk out the couple. That Magnus sighed and looked down, seeing Chairman Meow looking up at him worriedly. He leaned down and picked up the small cat and allowed him to tap his nose with his fat paws.
"Don't give me that look sir. You know how I feel about love... I can't have it. Not after everything." he said, pulling the little cat into his hold. "Now... come on. I have to go put on makeup sad."
Magnus watched himself as he walked out of the room and back down the hall. Magnus took a step forward and turned to MB. "Why did you show me this?"
"I'm showing how much of a hypocrite you are to yourself." he said back. "You tell yourself that you can't have love and you don't deserve love after everything that you've gone through. But you still yearn for it and want it. And look how that turned out for us."
"First of all MB, if you are me, then you know exactly why I gave up on love." Magnus retorted, pointing a finger at him. "After everything that's happened in my life with my mother, stepfather, Camille... Asmodeus, love is nothing but pain. I love everyone and looked how that turned out!"
"We were made for love Magnus. We were made to have love in our hearts and love all around us." MB said back. "No matter what happened in life. Now come, there's more to see."
He waved his hand around and the loft decoration changed and the outside lights changed to the dark night and starry sky. Magnus looked around his loft and recognized how he had redecorated it after he was attacked by Circle members. The usual orange couched were replaced with red and the golden lamps were now silver. Magnus realized where he was and groaned. "No. No!" he said. "I don't want to see this!"
"But you must." MB said. "It's the only way to see what you've been missing out on."
"Show me literally anything else but-"
"Hello?"
Alec. Magnus knew that voice all two well. The beautiful shadowhunter that had broken his heart for the last time. Magnus turned and saw as he watched in. He looked different from what he did now. His hair was spiked up a bit more then what he wore it like now. Magnus walked over to him to shove him out but his body phased through Alec like he was made of air.
"He can't see or hear us." MB said. "Now will you please just watch?"
Magnus turned and watched Alec look around his loft a bit slowly. There was no pep in his step as he looked around. "Magnus." he called. "Said you needed to talk to me."
Magnus cringed as soon as he had heard his voice from another previous him. "Nice to see you Alec." he heard himself say with a bit of his tipsy, flirty voice. "I wasn't sure if you would come.
Magnus moved over and watched as Alec raised his finger to say something. That Magnus snapped his fingers first and there was now a glass of red wine in his huge hand. Magnus rolled his eyes. His romantic heroics didn't work then. Why would they work with him re-watching it up close and personal like this? The Magnus from before approached the Alec from before with a grin while swirling his own wine.
"By Lilith." Magnus cursed.
"You know how much I hate to drink alone." his previous self said to Alec. He moved his wine glass to touch Alec's, but the shadowhunter moved the glass away and placed it down on his drink cart.
"I didn't come here to drink." he said. "Do you have any information-"
"On the warlock that cast the spell on Jocelyn? I'm looking into it. But we never really finished our conversation after Izzy's trail... about your wedding?"
"There's no conversation to be had. I'm getting married." Alec said back. "You and I, we understand marriage very differently. I'm a shadowhunter. This is about family, and tradition and honor."
"I don't want to see this anymore." Magnus said turning away from another one of himself and slamming his fists onto the drink cart. "Take me back to that room of black. I'd rather have that then this."
MB shrugged but let the conversation that they had both spoken out continue to fall out.
"Honor?" That Magnus said, moving his head to the side. "Where's the honor in living a lie?"
Alec raised his eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"
That Magnus shrugged his shoulder as he slowly got closer to Alec. The real Magnus shook his head, trying to drown out the sound. "What about love? Even shadowhunters fall in love Alec..." That Magnus asked. "Just, tell me that you're in love with Lydia and I'll stop."
Alec looked at That Magnus with a blank expression. But almost like he wanted to respond. Magnus leaned his head up, not remembering this silence and walked over to the two of them. He stood right there in between them and looked at the version of himself and the version of Alec.
"I... I-I don't know." Alec said back, with little to no expression. Magnus looked at him as he started to get defensive against the other Magnus. "Why do you keep pushing? It's-It's just... you... you're confusing me!"
Alec sighed and walked away from both of the Magnus, passing through the real one. Magnus watched as his old self set down his wine glass. "Confusion is part of it. That's how you find out if something's there. Emotions are never a black and white. They're more like... symptoms." he said, before starting to slowly making a circle around the shadowhunter.
"What are you-" Alec tried to ask, but he was cut off my That Magnus slowly speaking.
"You lose your breath... every time they walk into a room." When Alec didn't respond, Magnus snapped his fingers and made Alec's heart beat. Alec pressed his hand against his chest and exhaled through his nose. "Your heart beats faster when they walk by. Your skin tingles when your close enough to feel their breath."
Alec turned away from him for a moment, before turning back. Almost, lustfully. Magnus took a step closer. "He does feel it." he whispered, making MB nod in the back. MB snapped his fingers and the room started to change again.
"Wait... why are you stopping?" Magnus asked. "I know that he said more. I know that we talked more."
"You did... but that was the more asshole side of Alexander." MB said. "There's just one more thing that I need to show you."
The loft changed once more from MB's magic. The loft was almost empty now. Filled with barely anything. Magnus looked around. "Did I... did I do... all of this?" Magnus asked, seeing the empty space that was his home for a long time. As he stepped backwards, his boot crunched underneath something and the sound of him going through it filled the room. Magnus moved his foot and saw the note that he had written. Magnus looked over at MB, who was silent.
"I don't remember this." he said. "I wasn't here. This isn't my memory."
"No... but it's someone else's." MB said. Before Magnus could utter another question or response, there was a loud knock at the door. Magnus just stood there, knowing that he couldn't answer it. And Magnus could already guess who was at the door. Alec.
The shadowhunter called out. "Magnus? Magnus, open the door! Magnus, I need to talk to you! Magnus? Magnus!?" there was no response, mostly because if Magnus called out, Alec wouldn't hear him. After a couple of moments of nothing from either side of the room, there was a loud explosion. Magnus moved back, even though the glass shattering from the door wouldn't hurt him. Alec stepped in through the hole that was created by what Magnus was guessing was a rune. Alec looked through the room, anxiously.
"Magnus!" Alec yelled out, looking around everywhere for Magnus and you could practically hear the pain and fear in his voice. "Magnus? Are you here? Magnus?"
"Alec! Alec! Alexander!" Magnus called out, waving his hand in front of him. "Look Alec, look, I'm right here. I'm right here!"
"He can't hear you." MB said.
"No, Alec. Look at me love. I'm here! I'm right here!" Magnus cried as Alec walked right through him. Alec started to look around but his oot crunched under the not. Alec knelt down and read the note. Magnus moved to him and tried to move the paper out of his hand, only to be swung right through him. "No! Alec, love! Look at me! I'm right here!"
Alec's eyes filled with tears as the note dropped from his hand and he covered his mouth. Magnus wanted to move and hug him but he phased right through him again. Magnus sobbed loudly as Alec crashed down onto the hall behind him and fell down onto the ground. Alec started to cry and Magnus crawled over to him, hands hands phasing through the man that he loved.
Loved?
Yes loved.
Magnus loved Alec. With all his heart. Magnus cried seeing Alec like this. Alec shook his head from side to side in confusion and anger. MB just stood there and watched. There was another crunch at the door and Magnus saw Jace climb through. Magnus crawled away, needing to know what happened. Jace ran over to his brother and knelt down in front of him. "Alec!" Jace yelled at his parabatai. "Alec! Alec, hey! Hey, can you hear me? Alec!"
Alec shook his head when he saw Jace was now in front of him. Magnus watched them and he silently cried seeing the two of them "He... He... He's gone." Alec cried.
"No I'm not! I'm still here! I'm right here Alec! Look at me, please! ALEXANDER, I'M HERE!" Magnus cried. "Please... look at me!"
There was no reply from either of them. "Who?" Jace asked, shaking his brother more as Alec sobbed and sobbed and sobbed "Who? Who's gone Alec? Talk to me, hey. Who's gone?"
"Magnus... Magnus... he's gone." Alec said, eyes dripping with tears.
"We'll find the bastards that took him, we'll bring him back safely. Okay?" Jace whispered. He thought that he was kidnapped. Jace thought that someone was holding him. But it wasn't that. "We will find Magnus, don't worry."
"No... no Jace." Alec said, pushing his brother a bit. "We can't. We can't bring him back. We can't and it's all my fault."
"Alec, talk to me. What happened to Magnus? You didn't get him taken so don't-" Jace tried to calm down Alec but he screamed in his face
"He's dead Jace!" Alec screamed, pushing away and shaking his head in anger.
"No..." Magnus sobbed. "No, I'm not."
"What? Alec... Alec he's not-"
"He killed himself... because of me. He's gone Jace." Alec cried, shaking his head.
"We love him." MB said from behind him. "He's the one for us. Ragnor told us that he'd be the one to break down our walls. He's it for us."
Magnus looked behind him and saw MB nodding at him. Magnus looked back out at the two shadowhunters, who were now wrapped in a hug. "I want him back." Alec sobbed. "I just... I just want him back."
Magnus shook, seeing Alec like this. MB nodded and started to walk away. Magnus heard him and stood. "Hey, hey!" he called out. MB turned to face him. "Where are you going?"
"My work here is done. It's time for us to go." he said. Before Magnus could ask, he felt his body start to shake. Magnus looked down at his hands and felt his vision going white. He stood up to wake it off, but it didn't go away. Magnus rolled his eyes back and fell backwards and as he did he felt himself getting caught in someone's strong arms. Everything that had previously happened started to become fuzzy, but as his eyesight cleared up, he saw the one person that had changed him. That had broken down his walls.
The real Alec. Holding him close in a bridal carry. "Alexander." Magnus gasped, moving forward and hugging the young shadowhunter that he was truly in love with. And Alec didn't waste a breath, and hugged him back.
