Edit: I have a lot more spelling mistakes than I anticipated. Jeez, why the fudge did people enjoy this? It was so awkward when I first wrote it.
I don't have anything to say. Thanks to everyone who reviewed. Read and find out what happens. Well...I'll admit I laughed at Mere's review. :) Now READ!
Chapter 10
When Finn woke up, he was tied to a giant gear. It took him a moment to realize where he was. He glanced around, and his eyes widened when he saw Annabel sitting off to the side, tied up next to where Grem and Acer were talking to Professor Z.
It took him a moment to realize she wasn't unconscious. She looked up at Finn for what he assumed wasn't the first time. She gave Finn a sad look, and he gave her one back. "I'm so sorry," He mouthed. Tears formed at the corners of her eyes.
Finn felt terrible. He wondered if the Lemons had hurt her in any way, yet. The thought made his tank churn in anger.
"Alright, you go take the girl to the boss." Grem's voice brought Finn out of his thoughts.
"No, you two come with me." Professor Z countered. Grem and Acer grumbled, but obliged.
Annabel was once again shoved into Zündapp's trunk, and the three of them took off.
Finn was going to kill that car.
"Finn?" Holley wondered aloud. Finn tried to find the source of his partner's voice behind him. "Mater!" He heard her exclaim, seeing Mater dangling from the ceiling.
"Holley! Are you alright?"
"Finn? Oh, thank god… Y-yes, are you?"
"Not for long…" he decided, gloomily. "And neither will Annabel."
"Finn... You aren't—?"
"I promised her I'd protect her. Now look what..." Finn sighed. Finn McMissile doesn't cry, but for the first time he could remember, he felt on the verge of tears.
After a few minutes of silence, Finn heard Holley's voice again. "So, this is how you get used to being a field agent?" She chuckled darkly. Finn couldn't help but smile.
"Pretty much." he sadly replied. "Being a field agent also means loosing those who are close to you." he admitted. First Leland, now Annabel—not to mention Holley, Mater, and… Myself.
...
Annabel's POV
I never thought I'd ever actually see my life flash before my eyes. As soon as Professor Z took me to that office building where he'd be watching the race, I was proved wrong.
It was really boring. Oh, well.
"What will we do with the girl when McQueen's dead?" one of the Lemons at his side asked.
"The boss says she's from another world. She's probably seen too much of our world. We'll kill her." Professor Z said casually, as if killing innocent children was something he did every day. You know what, I bet he would if he had to. Poor little car children...
Poor me, I guess, too. All I ever wanted was to be accepted, and, well… I met Finn. Finn was like the father I never had. Well—a father that actually cared for me, I guess. I know he did. Why else would he promise he would protect me?
Look where that got me now. He promised! But… I knew even Finn couldn't keep certain promises...
The purplish Gremlin drove over to me. He inspected me curiously, then whacked me with his tire. I flinched at the pain and he smiled, apparently satisfied.
"I've got news from the boss." Zündapp announced. "We can't take her to him. We'll have to kill her here."
"Oh, oh, can I do it?" The light blue Trunkov asked eagerly.
"You can help." The purple Gremlin sneered.
"So can you." he shot back.
"Gentlecars..." Zündapp said to quiet them.
"I'll hold her!" The purple one suggested.
"Fine." Zündapp allowed.
The Gremlin grabbed me and held me so tight it hurt. I'm not exactly sure how it was possible for him to hold me at all.
"Wait!" Victor Hugo called from the window. "The race is starting!" The other Lemons groaned, and threw me back into Zündapp's trunk. God, I hated it in there! It was tiny and smelled terrible!
"We'll take care of her after the race is over," I heard Zündapp decide.
…is it bad that I'm upset that I can't watch the race?
…
Sometime later, Zündapp was angrily shouting through his radio at Grem.
"What happened!?"
"I dunno, Professor!" Grem stuttered.
"It should have worked!"
I could hear Grem and Acer arguing as Professor Z screamed. "Make sure it's on full power! When you're aiming at him—" realizing Grem and Acer weren't listening, he finally yelled, "We're going to the back-up plan!"
"I understand, sir. Yes."
"Get the bomb activation ready." Zündapp ordered. "The rest of you—we stay put for now."
...
I couldn't see much from Zündapp's trunk, but I heard that he was trying to activate a bomb on Mater. He started freaking out for some reason, and I hoped part of his plan had failed—especially since I didn't hear an explosion.
He stopped suddenly, and gasped, causing me to believe something else had happened.
"Hey!" I exclaimed when he spun around and drove away at—what I assumed to be—his top speed.
I tried desperately not to be thrown around too much when I felt him crash through something as the sound of glass shattering echoed around us. I'm not sure how we survived, but what we landed on was definitely not the ground.
I heard a loud whoosh above us and engines revving. I figured someone was chasing him—Finn!?
Yes, yes—Finn! I heard Finn call to Holley to help Mater while he took care of Zündapp.
"Finn!" I yelled, hoping he could hear me.
"Annabel!" I heard him call.
I was thrown around as Zündapp tried evading Finn, I'm guessing.
"Hurry, Professor!" I heard someone call—something big. It sounded like… No, that boat from the oil rigs? I haven't met him, yet, I vaguely remember… What was his name?
I felt Zündapp be brought to a screeching halt. He screamed—that was unexpected.
"Did you really think I was going to let you float away, Professor?" I heard Finn ask. Now, I'm—I'm pretty sure that's just an expression, but I'm pretty sure we really did start floating away...
What I wouldn't give to see what the crap is happening right now.
Welp, sorry, Professor, but I really wanna see what's going on.
He cried out when I attempted to kick his tail light out. Whatever he said, pretty sure he just swore in German. Didn't matter—I totally just proved that too much TV is a good thing. I awkwardly spun around in his trunk to peek out of the hole I just created. Hopefully didn't hurt him too much—I didn't see any car blood. Oil? Is that what cars bleed? Maybe.
I could see Finn. Oh, god. Somehow I got a flashback of a giant magnet, and Finn was definitely being pulled by it. He had his grappling hooks firmly attached to Zündapp's bumper, which is most likely why Z was stopped. The magnet also explains the floating.
Oh, god, Finn's being shot at.
I watched in horror as the spy I've admired up close for days pulled out his machine guns, hoping to shoot the source of the firing—still got my money on the big oil rig boat—but the magnet was too strong and it pulled gone guns off him. He tried his missiles, but the magnet pulled them out of his headlight, one by one.
"Finn!" I exclaimed when the boat—I'm just going with that theory, now—shot another missile and Finn jumped out of the way. He shot another, and Finn managed to evade that, too. The master spy finally tried his bombs. The magnet pulled those toward it, too—oh… Oh, that's clever.
Ninety-eight percent sure the boat just exploded.
Finn tangled Zündapp up in his grappling hooks and forced his trunk open. I practically tackled his hood.
"Finn...!" I buried my face in his hood, clinging to him. Admittedly, it wasn't the most comfortable hug, but I was glad to see him.
"Annabel, I'm so sorry..." He whispered. "I'm so glad you're safe." He smiled, his eyes closed as we awkwardly embraced.
"Me too. About you." I giggled.
"Now, come on." he smiled, opening his door. "We've a mission to complete."
I grinned and nodded, determined. Memory or no memory, I was gonna help Finn to the end.
Yay, happy ending. :) No, don't worry. It's not over yet. Na-ah. But we're not out of the woods yet. It's not all downhill from here. More bad things will happen. Just watch.
So who wants a bonus to this chapter? This is how I originally wanted the clock tower scene to go:
"So, we'll be okay? Really?" Holley asked.
"He wouldn't have left if I told him the truth." Finn admitted before the clock's gear they were on tilted again. Finn let out a light laugh. "Killed by a clock. Gives a whole new meaning to 'your time has come,'" Finn joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Ha-ha, that makes me feel so much better about dying..." Annabel replied sarcastically.
Later... Because I'm lazy right now and there's no need to type the dialogue that doesn't have Annabel in it because you've all seen Cars 2, right? :P...
"We've got to get to the course. Calculate the fastest way to—"
Wings came out of Holley's sides, throwing Annabel out of her. "Ah!" Annabel exclaimed, landing on the metal platform. "Ow..."
Finn was genuinely surprised. "Oh! Miss Shiftwell!"
"I said 'ow'..." Annabel complained.
"They're standard issue, now."
"You kids get all the good hardware." Finn laughed.
"Am I even here!?" Annabel exclaimed.
"Oh, no, that's Mater's!" Holley exclaimed looking at an air filter that was lying on the ground.
"I knew his escape was too easy... Holley, do you think you could fly out the clock and find him before—?"
"Got it!" she called, already gone.
"Annabel, stay here." Finn ordered.
"But what if someone finds me?"
Finn sighed and opened his door. Annabel jumped in and they were off.
So you can tell that was before the whole promise idea. Review? :)
