I've finally updated! Kind of hard to do when you're playing your new video games you got for your birthday for the past two weeks. No matter. Playing RPGs kind of help give me ideas for my stories as well as watching my favorite TV shows.

Enjoy!

Chapter 10

Looking Through Your Eyes

"These outfits are perfect!" Jack exclaimed as he modeled his new orange jumpsuit to his wife. The two managed to find some suitable clothes for them both and were trying them on while practicing walking on the uncharted island. Not to mention they finally got their legs working again.

"I don't know," Maddie said from behind a nearby bush. She stepped out into the open. She wore an aqua blue jumpsuit with pouches attached to her belt and infrared goggles attached to the hood. "Does this outfit make me look fat?"

Jack got one look at his mate and gave her a wolf whistle. "You've never looked better!" he exclaimed. "You look just as hot as the day I married you, maybe even hotter!"

Maddie blushed an even deeper red. "Oh, Jack…"

"How about we try something else out?" Jack suggested. Maddie smiled seductively, thinking she knew where this was going. "I'll get the checkers!" Jack exclaimed as he ran to the duffel bag where they carried their belongings (even merfolk played checkers). Maddie frowned in irritation and frustration.

Sam had to drag a reluctant Daniel onstage. He wasn't afraid of singing in front of people, far from it. He was afraid of singing in front of people that included Sam's parents. Pamela was about to protest but luckily Agnes managed to stuff a cupcake into her daughter-in-law's mouth to keep her quiet.

The DJ kindly gave Sam a second microphone for Daniel to use. She then requested the song she wanted to sing and returned on stage.

"Why is there a pair of losers on stage?" Paulina asked.

Sam scowled at her rival. "To show everyone that your singing is worse than Tucker's," she answered, causing the audience (except Tucker) to burst out laughing. She then signaled the DJ to start playing the song. Daniel started it off…

"Look at the sky

Tell me what do you see?

Just close your eyes and describe it to me

The heavens are sparkling with starlight tonight.

That's what I see through your eyes…"

Sam blushed at the first few lyrics before she took over.

"I see the heavens each time that you smile.

I hear your heartbeat just go on for miles

And suddenly I know my life is worthwhile

That's what I see through your eyes…"

It was Daniel's turn to blush before they sang the chorus together.

"Here in the night I see the sun

Here in the dark our two hearts are one

It's out of our hands

We can't stop what we have begun

And love just took me by surprise

Looking through your eyes…"

From the food table, Tucker tried to cheer on his friends but his cheers were muffled by the food that he stuffed in his face. Valerie, who was standing next to him, couldn't help but smile at her best friend.

Daniel looked at Sam as he started again…

"I look at myself and instead I see us

Whoever I am now it feels like enough

And I see a girl who is learning to trust

That's who I see through your eyes…"

Sam blushed at those words. She realized that it was true. According to Tucker, Danny seemed happier since he and Sam started dating. Tucker even said that Danny started ignoring some of the taunts and sneers from the other merfolk in his village. When asked about it, Danny would simply say that Sam thought being unique was a good thing.

They sang through the chorus again. Jeremy glared at the young man who was singing with his daughter. The boy seemed like an okay guy but something about him bothered Jeremy.

"You still don't like the boy?"

Jeremy jumped and saw his mother wheeling her way towards him. "There's something I don't like about him," he sniffed.

Agnes chuckled. "That's funny. I said something similar about Pamela when you introduced me to her."

"That was different," Jeremy defended. "There is something about Daniel that I can't put my finger on."

"How about you are afraid that your little girl is finally growing up?" Agnes suggested.

"That's not it at all!" Jeremy exclaimed, careful not to get too loud.

"I'll admit that there is something about Daniel that's different from the other boys you made Sammy date. But I think it's that difference that makes Sam attracted to Daniel," Agnes admitted. "And it's also the reason why I like him so much. That and the fact that he's deathly afraid of me."

As much as Jeremy wanted his daughter to find happiness, he refused to let her date someone he had never heard of or knew nothing about. Sam never said much about Daniel. And if Jeremy and Pamela asked about him, Sam would quickly change the subject and avoided the question.

The two lovebirds were about to sing the final verse when Daniel felt something familiar inside him. He tried his best to keep his eyes from changing color as they often did whenever his instincts began to act up. He grabbed Sam's hand and gave it an urgent squeeze.

The moment Sam felt the urgency in the way Daniel squeezed her hand, she knew that something was wrong. She looked at Daniel and saw that he was doing his best to keep up his disguise while keeping himself composed so he wouldn't blow his cover. Sam squeezed Daniel's hand back to tell him she understood.

"And there are some things we don't know,

Sometimes our hearts just needs to grow

And there is so much I remember

Underneath the open sky with you forever…"

The two sang the chorus for the last time. When the song ended the entire room burst into applause (except Paulina). Sam and Daniel took a bow and put their microphones on the stand. They then walked off the stage and then quickly dashed outside.

Tucker gave Valerie a knowing look. Val frowned at what Tucker was thinking.

"Get your mind out of the gutter. Sam would never take that step so hastily and no, I won't do it with you," Valerie told her boyfriend dully.

Tucker pouted. "Aw, come on, Val!"

The two lovebirds ran onto the club grounds so Daniel could ease his nerves. They managed to get behind some bushes when Daniel tackled Sam to the ground and kissed her passionately. By then Daniel's eyes were glowing bright green and his teeth were now pointed. Sam tried to kiss him back with as much passion but Daniel's tongue had already conquered the inside of her mouth.

Sam moaned as Daniel slowly traveled down her neck. She felt her gills appear on her neck and Daniel began licking the edges, causing Sam to squirm.

"Te amo meus tecumque," Daniel murmured in Sam's ear.

'That's it. I'm getting a Latin dictionary.'

"I…love you…too…" Sam groaned. As much as she wanted this to last forever, she really wanted to give Daniel her present. She pinched his forearm.

"YOWCH!" Daniel exclaimed, pulling back from Sam and returning to his normal state of mind. "That was harder than usual!"

"Sorry about that," said Sam as she sat up in the grass. "I wanted to give you something special." She pulled out a small rectangular box from her pocket. "Happy anniversary!"

Daniel took the box and opened it. Inside was a shark's tooth on a necklace chain. On each side of the tooth were a black bead, a white bead, and a neon green bead.

"Sam… I… I don't know what to say. It's beautiful, awesome! This is so cool!" Daniel exclaimed.

Sam took the shark tooth necklace and put it around his neck. "You can thank Valerie for the tooth. She gave it to me after spending the day with you. She had a feeling that I'd make good use for it," Sam replied.

"She was right," Daniel replied. He then held the shark tooth in his hand when he realized what Sam said. "Wait, you're saying this is Cujo's tooth? The one Valerie pulled?"

Sam tried to hide a smile. "She's been brushing and flossing more often after you two played dentist with Cujo."

Daniel started laughing. "Okay, the way you said that made it sound nasty for some reason."

Sam thought over what she just said and started laughing too. "Oh my gosh! I can't believe I said it like that! That is NOT what I meant at all!"

Daniel then embraced her. "I know that's true. I trust you. You know that, right?"

Sam then returned the hug. "I've got your back if you got mine."

Daniel sealed that promise with a passionate kiss.

I do not own the song. It belongs to Leanne Rimes. I think it's pretty obvious it doesn't belong to me.

One of my grades is in hot water so that is one of the reasons why I've been putting this off. The other reason: my birthday was a few weeks ago and I've been playing with my new games. But I knew better than to leave you guys hanging.

Forgive the lateness of the update. And yes I'm aware that it's kind of short. I've been trying to make this as long as possible.
