My body floated.

I felt like I was balanced on air, or a cloud. Like the cloud was cradling me gently. Not wishing to waken me.

All I remember after the pain is cold. No images, no sound, no smells, just cold. I couldn't feel anything solid, the only thought my brain could hold onto was that I'm dying. Or at least, I thought I was.

When I came to I was lying in a bed made of silks and cotton and fabrics. My body was cradled in it sinking deeper into its comfort and warmth. The warmth never passed my skin.

Beyond the very edges of my sense was the heat that was almost invisible. The rest was cold. Pure cold, no heat. All of the heat seemed leached from my body. I was abruptly aware of everything around me, even though my eyes are closed.

I open my eyes and instantly I'm aware of another presence. I stand launching out of the bed as quickly as I can. My eyes dart around the room and land on… Kaga?

He stares at me, seeming sad. Really sad.

"I'm sorry Katherine I really didn't want this." He walked over to me and put his hand on my cheek. I felt my mind slowly fogging over.

No, I'm not doing that. I know what he's trying to do.

"Don't touch me," I grabbed his hand and pulled it off my face, "I trusted you! I trusted you not to treat me like just another 'mortal'! And you… you… you tried to control me!"

"No Katherine I-"

"I thought you trusted me, and I trusted you with my life."

"I couldn't lose you Katherine!"

"So you got rid of everything I believed in. Everything I wanted in life, and everything I wanted to be. You turned me into… into a monster! Like you!"

"And Vic, and Russet."

"At least they are only monsters on the outside." I wasn't backing down. There was nothing else they could do to me now. Now I would see my brother and parents funerals. I would see theirs grandchildren's great grandchildren's funerals. And I would remain the same age. I had wanted to grow old and share my life with another, my only virtue was holding onto my humanity despite all odds. He took the little I had, and destroyed it.

"Yes I asked him to change you. You were too delicate as a human, someone could have killed you easily, now it wuld be much harder."

"Unless I kill myself."

"I won't let you."

"Like you can stop me!"

"He can't but I can." The king entered the room and looked me up and down.

I stepped back and my hand clamped around the nearest thing I could use as a weapon. I found the bed frame and my fist made a dent in the cold steel.

The king looked at me, "I think we should finish the transformation Kaga. Might make her easier to control."

Finish? Was I not done? Was I still partly human? Was that even possible?

"No."

They started arguing and the door was still open. I stepped out it and slammed it, turning the lock and ran.

Guards stood to block me but as I ran I noticed I was faster, a lot faster. As a full human, I don't think I could've escaped but somehow I did.

I ran as far as I could. I bolted through the streets like a bullet and flying up the hill. And as I did so I pelted down someone going the complete opposite direction. We tumbled end over end then sprawled, him facing down the hill me facing up.

"Vic?" I sat up rubbing my head, "what are you doing here?"

"Katherine!" Russet came sliding down the hill to my side pulling me up and into a monsterous hug.

Vic, still dazed, stood wobbly and walked over to us. He took his turn attempting to break my ribs after Russet had failed her attempt.

"C-can't breath-"

Russet grabbed Vic and pulling off of me dropping me to my knees coughing.

"J-Jesus Christ Vic," I spluttered, "were you trying to kill me?!"

"Um… not exactly?"

A huge Brown wolf bounded down the hill after Russet and when it saw me it tripped and stumbled rolling the rest of the way down the hill. Vic fell on the grass laughing himself to a pulp.

The wolf got up and growled. It launches itself at Vic and they went into a wrestling match the wolf should have won easily, if of course Vic was human –er mortal I guess I should call them now-.

"Katherine why are you a vampire? Wait you're not a vampire your eyes are still brown?"

"I'm what?"

"Katherine wrestle Vic, I want to see if you're still human or a vampire. If you're full vampire you'll lose. If human, you're dead."

"Thank you Russet that's encouraging. And hell no!"

"Why?!" Vic whined.

"'cause I'm not wrestling you."

I ffelt my body slammed down by something furry and huge. I grabbed it's muzzle and threw it off me and into Russet. The wolf from earlier climbed off her just as Vic attacked me from my other side. I turned and slammed my fist into his face sending him flying into the wall but the wolf got me down again.

I grabbed it's muzzle and kicked it's chest pulling my legs up under me. The wolf slammed backwards over me and whined as it hit.

"So you aren't a full vampire, that's interesting." Russet came over to me and slapped me on the back.

"I'm not?"

"Nope" Russet and Vic smiled in unison and the wolf turned into Joshua.

"Joshua" I ogled at him, "How the… what are you…"

"I came to help you, but I guess it wasn't needed and there's something I need to ask the three of you."

"No I won't marry you." Vic crossed his arms over his body girlishly.

"Shut up Vic," Russet smacked him, "What is it Joshua."

"I'm not actually working for Alec. I'm for an independent group of Rebels, we fight against the Vampires and against the werewolves. We fight for the people and not against the people. Would you three like to join?"

We looked at each other and grinned, "Yes!"
