I AM BACK! HUZA! So yeah… sorry for the incredibly unforgivable long wait. PLEASE DON'T KILL ME! I'm super sorry for leaving the fic so close to the end without finishing it, there's only a few more chapters to go but I promise it's not gonna be abandoned. I'm just a stupidly bad procrastinator and lazy and what not… But I really hope you enjoy this chapter, and I have made additions to all the chapters I think they fit much better this way, and the beginning is a lot less abrupt, like Reiko doesn't automatically join the crew and stuffs. If you want re read them, the story isn't really affected so it's not completely necessary but it might make things clearer for you guys I hope you enjoy the chapter.
Chapter 10: Beyond the Moonlight
Sleep was out of the question. Reiko had tried to, but she felt too restless. She looked over to Zoro and saw him happily snoring away. That's good, he needs it much more than I do, and this way I can try and find a way for us to escape, she thought.
She looked around to take in her surroundings. They were in a large cell, fit for at least four prisoners. There was a small window above her to her left, but it was covered. The little light it let in let Reiko know it was morning already. Tonight is the full moon, if we don't get out of here by then I'm going to go berserk and with Zoro in the shape he's in trapped in here with me… I could kill him… maybe that's Yamashi's plan… She sighed and continued to look around.
There were also hooks on the walls, where their chains could be attached to keep them from moving around the cell. On the right side of the cell, right beside Zoro, there was a metal bunk where one of them could lay and rest, though it seemed Zoro preferred the ground anyway.
She then looked out into the dark hallway. We're in one of the cells in the back of the prison, meaning that even if we get out of here we still aren't home free. We would have to slip past all of the other cells down the hallway and reach the stairs. And not to mention that Zoro probably wont want to leave until we find his swords. She sighed; this was going to be much more difficult than she had imagined. It's okay… thinking about everything isn't going to help us get out, so now I just need to focus on getting us out of these chains.
She closed her eyes trying to find her energy through the fogginess in her mind and the pain around her neck. Her whole body felt unusually num because of the sea stone chains, especially around her wrists where she was directly touching the cuffs. The collar around her neck wasn't too thick, only about an inch. The only way to get it off would be to break it, or cut it since she didn't have the key, but her claws were useless against silver. She hoped that by fully transforming, even through the pain, she would be able to break it since her neck would double in size.
Grasping for the bestial core inside of herself she finally managed to begin her transformation, slowly, to try and move through the pain. It started with her hair, it grew longer and longer turning a darker blood red color, than her natural auburn. Her ears also became larger, and more pointed, feral, moving slightly farther back onto her head. Her tail bristled and elongated reaching three feet in length. It too changed color.
Next, the transformation moved onto her nails and teeth. Reiko felt her fingers tingled as her nails grew, turning sharper and pointed. They became thicker almost consuming her fingers, until her hand grew slightly to compensate. She began to grit her teeth in pain as they too became larger. Her fangs grew pushing the rest of her teeth around, causing more pain. For a while it felt like her mouth was going to burst without room. Next it was her molars becoming bigger and bigger, extending down into her gum line. Finally her jaws extended forward slightly to make room.
Now it was her eyes that changed. Yellow began to cloud the blue that were her irises and her vision sharpened when her pupils narrowed and took in more light. Good so far. The burning isn't too bad and I've got the basics done. Let's see if I can keep going, at this rate maybe the seastone cuffs will break before the collar and I can use my devil fruit powers instead.
Concentrating once more on her bestial energy, she began to pull it out, taking the next step in her transformation. Her bones ached as they grew, and fur slowly began to sprout along her body. Her skin and muscles tugged against the bonds, she could feel them reaching their limits. Her body began to take the beast form and she heard the crack of one of the cuffs. Good…gnnn… just a little more. She grit her teeth against the burning around her neck that continuously incremented. As her neck grew as well the collar, instead of breaking, began to choke her. It was getting harder and harder to breathe and the scent of burning fur and flesh wafted in her nose. With a quiet yelp she forcefully pulled back all of her power and quickly returned to normal. She grabbed her burning neck to try to ease the pain, only burning her fingers in the process.
Damn it! Just a bit more and the cuffs would have broken. Stupid silver collar... And without any moonlight to help fuel my powers I can't transform only parts of my body like before. It's gotta be all or nothing… I'm not going to be able to attempt this too many times. She sighed, frustrated. One more time.

He could feel the cool breeze of the sea on his face, its salty scent lingered in his nose and the sound of the waves roared in his ears. The rocking of the ship lulled him as the warm rays of the sun comfortably blanketed him and the soft grass under him became the best of cushions.
He hadn't realized how much he missed the Thousand Sunny until this very moment. Every time he laid leaning against the mast he was at peace. Asleep or no, he was comfortable and happy he didn't have to worry about anything. He was safe there, with his crew… his captain; his foolish captain who could do anything yet nothing alone. They were all like that, individually they could only go so far, but together they were unstoppable.
"Oy! Zoro! Let's go! Everyone's waiting for us!" called the very familiar voice of the Strawhat boy.
Zoro's eyes fluttered open, but he froze. This wasn't the Sunny, and that wasn't Luffy's voice. It was the prison cell he hated so much. Taking a few seconds to compose himself, he grunted and sat up, adjusting his position.
"Finally awake," said Reiko quietly from beside him. Her voice sounded strange, rough. He groggily looked at her a little concerned. "You've been asleep for the whole day basically," she continued laughing a little. "I have no idea how you do it Zoro, but at least your body has had a chance to rest properly."
"Yeah well maybe your body should get a chance to rest too. You don't sound too good. Are you okay?" he asked.
"Uh yea…" she said turning away from him a little.
He frowned and looked at her closely. That's when he noticed that her skin around the silver collar was bright red; burned and raw.
"What the hell happened?" he asked going over to her quickly to check on her injuries. "Your neck!"
She smiled slightly at his concern for her health, but pushed him away. "I'm fine. It's just a little burn."
"How the hell did you get that?! Did Yamashi come in here while I was asleep?" he asked, though he wasn't too sure that was the case.
"No, no. I was trying to escape… break the chains and get out, but of course, that had its repercussions."
"Damn it! Why would you do that?"
"How else are we supposed to get out of here Zoro?! You're still in no shape to move, and without your swords we're going to have a hard time breaking those steel bars."
"I already told you! When Luffy gets here we'll be fine."
"We don't even know when they'll be here! We have to get out before night falls with the full moon! Otherwise I'll –"
Almost on cue Zoro felt a strange pressure in his ears, which seemed to get stronger and stronger until it became almost unbearable. His hands pressed against them and he squatted down in pain, grinding his teeth together. He forced an eye open and looked up at Reiko. She was doing the same thing he was. She looked up and muttered:
"Y-Yamashi…"
Zoro looked at the entrance, and saw Yamashi walking closer whistling with Ankoro right behind him.
"The hell is that noise?" Zoro muttered, pressing his hands harder against his head.
But Reiko couldn't hear him.
Yamashi reached the door and stopped whistling. Ankoro stopped beside him and opened the prison cell. They entered, Ankoro first. Reiko was still reeling from the ringing in her ears, but Zoro darted at them as quickly as he could.
Ankoro transformed entirely to diamond and kicked him away viciously. He groaned and got on all fours, glaring up at Ankoro.
"Now, now Zoro, no need to be so angry, you're alive aren't you?' said Yamashi as he approached Reiko slowly, she still wasn't moving.
"Yeah… cough… mind explaining that? I thought the only reason you guys were keeping me alive was–"
"Indeed," Yamashi interrupted. "Our prior reasons to keeping you alive were Reiko's… decisions for entertainment. But because she is a bit…" he stopped, crouched in front of her, and pulled her head up by her long mane, until their eyes locked, his taunting, hers angry yet fearful, in pain. "A bit unreliable at the moment, that no longer applies."
She spat at him, and he threw her to the side.
"So then explain. She said she knew everything you wanted to know about the crew. And I know she's more valuable alive, and I'm more valuable dead."
"As I said she's not very reliable at the moment, but you are correct she is very important to me, and alive is always better. So I've decided that one of you will talk."
"Heh, yeah right, now you're just kidding yourself."
"Not at all. I'm not one to gamble, and while I'm not sure how you feel about her, I know very well her feelings for you. If you will not talk, I will make her talk."
"You bastard!" yelled Reiko as she shot up ready to fight back.
Ankoro stopped her, pushing her now weak frame against the wall, and hooking the chains.
"Let me go!" she howled.
"Now now little pup, you are only allowed to speak if it is about the Strawhats," Yamashi snickered.
She growled but stayed silent.
Zoro darted up and tried to run to her, but Ankoro was faster and punched him into the ground. Zoro groaned. His whole body throbbed painfully. A thick hand crawled across his neck and pushed him back to the wall.
"Well Reiko it is your choice," Yamashi said, looking at Zoro.
She glared at him, looked over to Zoro who was staring at her darkly, jaws clenched, and shut her eyes looking away.
"I see. Pity," Yamashi said. He nodded at Ankoro.
A wicked smile crossed his face and his fist turned to hard steal and rammed it into his stomach. Zoro gagged on some blood. Yamashi observed Reiko as Ankoro continued his grueling torment.
He was tediously methodic, taking his time carefully bruising and tenderizing Zoro's flesh as if he were a sack of meat, not to mention reopening all of the minor cuts and wounds. It was painful but tolerable; Zoro clenched his teeth and only hissed and grunted here and there trying to keep up a strong image. But soon the accumulations of the wounds began to take their toll on him; his fever rose and body began to burn. At least my body is starting to go numb… he weakly thought. Another tight fist under his ribs and he spat out a mouthful of bile and blood.
Yamashi frowned at the lack of response. He looked over to Reiko and realized she was looking away. He stepped closer to her and grabbed her chin gently, pulling it to look at Zoro.
"Now now Reiko dearest, it doesn't count if you don't look."
She fought against him and pulled her head away once more, this time closing her eyes tightly. Yamashi sighed then nodded back at Ankoro, who swiftly kneed Zoro in the groin, letting him drop to the cold ground face first. He groaned painfully.
"If you won't watch then you'll just have to listen…"
Ankoro walked around Zoro's collapsed body and made his way to his feet. He grabbed Zoro's left foot from the ankle and slipped off his shoe. Zoro struggled against him but his position was too uncomfortable and Ankoro's grip too strong. Ankoro pushed Zoro's pant leg up to his knee. Then he turned his free hand into a blade. Zoro couldn't see what was happening but he felt very uneasy, until a sharp sting hit the bottom of his foot. This sting progressed to become much more painful and Zoro growled out. He tried to turn his head to look back and through the edge of his vision he saw Ankoro carving the skin off of his leg. He screamed more from the shock of Ankoro's actions than from the pain.
Yamashi looked at Reiko, who was clenching her teeth but still refused to watch or say anything. He turned to Ankoro, indicating him to continue. Ankoro progressed from Zoro's foot to his calf, slowly ripping away layers and layers of skin. Zoro squirmed around desperately trying to get away, the sound of his own blood dripping driving him mad. Reiko still didn't react.
Yamashi frowned and told Ankoro to stop. He sighed and then looked at Ankoro. "I didn't want it to come to this but…"
Ankoro couldn't help but grin wildly as he took the heel of his boot down upon Zoro. A sickening crack followed by a heart wrenching howl is what made Reiko turn to look and scream a sorrowful "NOOOOOO!"
Two of the fingers on Zoro's right had were completely bent out of shape, he was moaning in pain and trying to shift to subside the waves of agony traversing his body. Ankoro smashed two more of his fingers, leaving only his thumb unbroken. Tears welled up in Reiko's eyes with every scream Zoro let out.
"Stop it!" she wailed.
"You know what we want Reiko; the weaknesses of the Strawhats, aside from the obvious seastone, and in addition to all of that I need to know what exactly you told them… about us."
She panicked and swallowed hard, not knowing what to do when suddenly she heard a shuffling sound and a thud. Looking over she saw Zoro, coughing up blood and pinned to the ground by Ankoro's knee.
"DON'T. YOU. DARE!" Zoro demanded at her growling.
"But they'll kill you!" she screamed back, not caring any longer at the tears that flowed down her face.
Zoro smirked, blood dripping from his lips.
"They won't kill me… if they do they'll have nothing to force you to talk with."
Yamashi laughed. "Don't be so sure my dear boy. You have quite a resistance to pain and suffering, but do you really think this little one does?" He grabbed her chin once more, but this time Reiko was frozen in fear. "See, look at her face. I will show you that I have more than one method to get what I want."
He let go of Reiko's face and left for a few moments, neither Reiko nor Zoro could move. He returned holding a metal tray littered with several different items: a knife, a cup containing some liquid, and a gun. Reiko froze, it wasn't the items that startled her so much as their scent; Silver.
"When I was still a pirate, I tested out quite a few things with the rest of your kin Reiko, but I never got as far as I wanted since most of my specimens would die or go mad before I could get any worthy results. Let's see just how strong that will you're so proud of is." He walked closer and picked up the silver knife. "Now then I simply take this knife here and…" He carefully unbuttoned the first button of Reiko's blouse, she struggled to get away but he grabbed her throat and pushed her back against the wall. With his other hand he took the knife and sliced cleanly on the upper part of her left breast. She let out a small hiss, struggling against him. The wound burned. He continued to cut all over her stomach, shoulders, and arms. Her eyes watered but she continued to resist. Zoro struggled against Ankoro.
Yamashi ripped away her shirt to get to her back, flipping her around and revealing the fresh scar. Zoro's eyes widened.
"Ah yes, I had forgotten about this one. So much for your famed healing abilities, you've had plenty of time to rest but still this has left a horrid scar on you. But no matter, I'm sure these other wounds will as well." He laughed.
Reiko called all of her strength and spun around about to lunge at him but stopped cold when a gunshot was heard. Then she collapsed.
"REIKO!" yelled Zoro.
She was on the flood, a pool of blood forming around her and she cradled her leg, which had a deep bullet wound, grinding her teeth together viciously. Yamashi sighed and put the gun down.
"Silver bullets. They are not easy to come by, you should be grateful I didn't put it in your heart."
Reiko, shaking, glared up at him. "You should be grateful I don't eat your heart the second I get out of here!"
He frowned, lifted her up by her neck and put her against the wall again.
"And what if I were to pour some of this into those nasty wounds?"
He took the metal cup and pulled it closer towards her. Zoro could hear the liquid bubbling in the cup.
"N-nn-noo! P-please… don't… don't do it…." Reiko stuttered out, practically sobbing.
Yamashi ignored her pleas, as he took the cup and poured the molten silver into the wound. It instantly singed her skin and dripped down her chest and stomach. An agonizing howl ripped itself from her throat as her eyes unfocused and the rest of her body went limp, tears streaming down nonstop. Zoro struggled against Ankoro as best he could to reach her.
Yamashi then leaned his head close to her and whispered into her ear, "You know how to end this Reiko, come back and work with me–"
His sentence was cut short when Reiko leaned forward digging her fangs into Yamashi's neck, trying to rip his throat out. He let out a surprised yell and pulled himself away. She was weak enough that he was able to do so. She collapsed on the ground and he stumbled backwards. Ankoro completely forgot about Zoro and dashed to help Yamashi up.
"That bitch!" he called out, picking up an in shock Yamashi. "You just signed yer death warrant!"
"Bite me!" she called watching them leave. When they were out of sight she collapsed.
"Reiko!"
Zoro stumbled to his feet as best he could and ran at her. She wasn't moving. He panicked grabbing her arms and shaking her.
"Shit! Shit! Don't you fucking die damn it!"
She coughed and opened one glossy eye looking at him.
"T-the silver… get the… silver."
He nodded, gently put her down to get a good look at her. Her body was ravaged with cuts but they weren't deep; the one that worried him was the one on her breast, it was the one most covered in silver. He pulled her shirt closer and ripped off a piece using it to wipe away the molten silver. She winced and growled as it rubbed against her skin but he was able to wipe most of it off. The wounds were more difficult. The silver had gotten into them and he had a hard time getting it out.
"DAMN IT ZORO!" she roared.
"Calm down! I'm almost done."
He finished cleaning the wounds as best he could. Luffy needs to get here fast… Chopper is the only one who can fix her… and me. He looked down at his bloody pulp of a foot, he had hoped it wouldn't look as bad as it did. The chance of leaving this place without a fight was a slip prospect.
He sighed and used his good hand and teeth to rip a piece off of his pant leg. This will have to do to bandage her leg up, if neither of us can stand we're going t have a very hard time. Just as he was wrapping her leg she stopped him.
"Wait… you have to… take the bullet out…first…"
Shit… he thought. He dropped the cloth and took a deep breath before sticking to of his fingers into the wound, she hissed. He grunted and pushed further into the wound trying to feel around for the metal round. She growled and began breathing hard unable to withstand the pain. Finally his fingers brushed the sleek bullet and he slowly and carefully put his fingers around it and he pulled it out. He quickly tossed it away, and wrapped her leg as best he could with one hand.
He looked up at her and saw she had passed out; probably from the pain, he thought. He pulled her toward the wall, he covered her with her shirt and then leaned her against his chest so she sat between his legs. He let out a deep breath and laid his head against the wall.

Yamashi scowled as the doctor carefully cleaned the injuries on his neck. Ankoro stood at the door looking out of the window very frustrated. He only turned to look at Yamashi when he heard the sound of metal tumbling onto the floor. Yamashi had hastily pushed the doctor and his utensils to the floor.
"We should have killed her when she tried to save Roronoa."
"Silence. I'm not about to throw away years of research because of an outburst on her behalf," answered Yamashi, standing and slowly pulling on his marine coat.
"So what you're just going to ignore everything that just happened?"
"Of course not! She will be thoroughly punished but we are not going to allow her to die. If she won't stay as our comrade then she will be our prisoner. It is as simple as that."
"Great…" Ankoro sighed as he slowly followed Yamashi out the door. "What are we going to do now?"
"What do you think? We are going to execute that pirate."
"Don't you think you should rest up a bit?"
Yamashi glared at him but didn't continue forward.
"You may have a point Ankoro. Let's give them some time as well, I want to enjoy the look on her face when he dies."
Yamashi walked towards his office, Ankoro followed grinning.

Reiko slowly opened her eyes. It was dark and her eyes took a few seconds to adjust. She blinked wearily, her body felt numb, cold even, but there was a comforting warmth coming from behind her. She looked down to check herself. She was covered in blood, her body was bruised and cut all over; she winced remembering Yamashi's visit earlier. Her eyes trailed down her mess of a body and her breath caught in her throat as she saw Zoro's foot. It was hardly distinguishable, dark blood littered the ground around it and by the smell of it the raw flesh was beginning to get infected. She tried to shuffle away and realized that he was behind her. She must have woken him up because he suddenly shifted, coughed and let out a groan.
"You're awake…" he muttered.
She smiled. "I should be the one saying that."
"How do you feel?"
"Like a piece of shit…."
He laughed. "I should be the one saying that."
"That's true… I'm so sorry Zoro."
"What for? You didn't do this."
"Yea, but they hurt you to get to me…"
"They're marines, they were going to torture me anyway… I'm surprised Yamashi hurt you so bad."
"He's a monster, I'm not surprised at all."
"And that huge scar on your back?"
"Oh… uh that… that's from a light blast from Kizaru, from when he attacked you guys…"
"You? You stopped one of his attacks?"
"Hardly… my shadow and my werewolf hide are basically what saved me… but I had to risk it. I couldn't bear to watch you…die."
He remained silent but slowly wrapped his arms around her. She smiled at him but saw his broken hand. She gently grabbed it.
"This must be so painful… how are you going to fight now?"
He chuckled. "I can still use two out of three swords."
She felt him relax and lean his head against the wall. She took a deep breath and slowly turned around to face him. It's very probable that we're going to die soon… the silver has gotten in my blood… but I'm going to make the most out of my time. Her blouse was unbuttoned and it gently brushed against his bare chest. She blushed and looked up at him; his eyes were closed but he was smiling.
"Zoro…" her hands slowly crept up his chest, softly caressing it. "There's something I want to say…" her face nuzzled closer to his, her nose tapping his chin. "Before I–" She froze.
Zoro furrowed his brow at her pause, confused. He looked down opening his eyes and was surprised to find her staring at him paralyzed.
"What's wrong?" he asked. She didn't answer. That's when he saw a light slowly creep on to her face and glow in her eyes and he realized it wasn't him she was looking at. His head spun around and he saw that through the window above his head the full moon shone brightly. Before he could look back he felt her push away from him and growl deeply.
"Reiko!" he called trying to get up.
"Stay back!" she growled at him, putting a hand in his way.
Her voice was rough and deep, her hand clawed and dangerous. He slowly managed to half stand and made his way towards her.
"You have to fight it Reiko. The collar will kill you," he said crouching beside her.
"You think I don't fucking know that!" she roared clawing at him and pushing him away. Her eyes yellow and bloodshot, her face half transformed. She howled in pain and clenched her teeth, digging her head into the ground. Her body trembled as the dark rage threatened to take control.
Zoro fell back, four deep gouges in his arm. He had to do something. He quickly glanced around the cell and saw a blanket near the bed. He instantly remembered when she hadn't been able to heal the cut from his sword because the moonlight hadn't hit her. As fast as he could he dashed over to the blanket, grabbed and threw it over her, throwing himself on top as she struggled, already deep into the transformation. She roared and growled trying to fight him.
"Fight it Reiko! I know you can fight it!" He had a hard time keeping her down since his hand and foot were useless, and the rest of his body was bruised and battered. He clenched his teeth, if she transformed she would die.
Suddenly she let out a blood curling howl and he feared for the worst, but instead of throwing him off completely she stopped struggling and he felt her form become smaller. He sighed in relief and rolled off of her and listened to her shaky breath for what seemed like an eternity.
x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x
Yamashi smiled as Reiko's pained howl rumbled through the walls of the marine base.
"Ah… it has begun."
Ankoro laughed.
"Poor sap, he's gonna get eaten alive."
"In a few moments I want you to send Hakimi down to make sure she isn't able to break out of her cell."
"Gotcha"
x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x~x
"Z-Zoro…?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you move?"
"Yeah."
"I… I need you to help me out."
"Okay."
"Move me to a dark corner."
Zoro grunted and got onto his knees. He adjusted the blanket on her to make sure the light didn't come through and slowly pushed her into the darkest corner of the room, where the direct moonlight didn't hit.
"Better?" he asked.
"Yeah…"
She poked half of her face out from under the blanket to look up at him, he was leaning on the wall next to her, he looked exhausted, and he was breathing heavily. She looked at him sadly. His strong face was bruised and his only good arm now had four large gashes carved into it. Self hatred filled her again and she had to fight the urge to transform. Zoro noticed her and looked at her worried.
"You okay?"
"Yeah…" her voice was raspy. She looked up at him. "I'm sorry for scratching you… is it bad?"
He looked into her deep yellow/red eyes. What he could see of her face was scary. Her nose and jaw were already protruding and her fangs came out from behind her lips. But even through her wolf like façade he could still see the pain and sadness in her eyes.
"No, it's nothing. How are you holding up?"
"Okay I guess. The urge to turn is easier to control now, but we need to find a way out of here fast… I'm going to transform soon whether I like it or not."
"Damn it…" Zoro sighed. He leaned back against the wall, exhausted.
"Reiko…" said a tenuous small voice from outside of the cell.
Reiko and Zoro quickly looked out of the cell and saw Hakimi.
"Hakimi? What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to help."
"Fuck off!" Reiko demanded.
"It's true!"
"Come on, you're just one of Yamashi's men."
"I wasn't part of the original pirate crew that attacked your island Reiko. I was transferred into this marine base, and now that I know Yamashi is a pirate I have no intention of helping him any longer."
"So what you're going to help the infamous Strawhat Pirates? Give me a break," said Zoro sarcastically. Reiko looked at him surprised.
"No. But I am going to help a friend of mine get out of an unfair punishment." He opened the cell door, walked in and dropped two keys at Zoro's feet. "These are for the chains and the silver collar. I have to leave you guys but Reiko knows her way around this place."
Then he turned into air and vanished into the distance.
"Wow… I definitely didn't see that coming," said Reiko.
Zoro immediately took the keys and unlocked both of them. As soon as the collar came off Reiko sighed in relief, letting her transformation go a little further as the collar no longer choked her. She slowly stood, without taking off the blanket, and she helped Zoro stand up.
"Let's get outta here."
"Agreed," said Zoro smiling.
Suddenly the walls and ground shook with a thunderous sound, and Reiko and Zoro almost fell over.
"Shit what was that!?" asked Reiko.
Suddenly a voice echoed through the walls.
"ZOROOOOOOO! REIKOOOOOOO!"
Reiko and Zoro said in unison: "….Luffy….."
